"Why isn't she picking up her fucking phone?" demanded Phil, as they rode into Caesar's Palace after dropping Jade off at home. Tossing the bag of money of their earnings into Stu's arms, he marched right up to the receptionist Lisa who was shocked to see him in a hurry.
"Hi, I'm looking for the teenage girl that came in with us. Have you seen her?"
"I can't say I remember what she looks like, Sir," she answered quickly. Phil dug into his pockets, withdrawing his phone and wallet trying to find a good enough photo of Jess.
"This girl! She came in with us on Friday night," he said, praying that Lisa had seen her.
"I think I saw her leaving earlier but—" she answered after a moment's inspection of the photo. "A young man was with her. A tall guy, sort of like him," said Lisa pointed behind Phil and the others toward the main entrance. Jess stood by the elevators chatting with a young man a little taller than her. They both appeared disheveled and their clothing was hanging on their body, even the young man's. Hell his shirt wasn't even tucked in nor was he keeping his hands to himself. They roamed all over Jess' body and Phil's eyes widen at the sight as Jess laughed and stepped into the elevator disappearing from view. Fury began to overtake him and he was ready to kill that boy….
"PHIL!" yelled Stu, giving Alan a quick look. "PHIL!"
But Phil had already turned sharply on his heels, and was already heading to the young man, his fists clenched and his heart beating against his chest. Rage grabbed him and lured him to the elevators but the young man had disappeared too among all the guests in the lobby. Before Stu and Alan had caught up with him, the elevator door had closed sending Phil after Jess. For a brief second, Stu saw the expression he had only seen twice before on Phil. Those times were during arguments with his wife.
"FUCK!" shouted Stu, jumping up and down in panic stabbing the call button. "Jess…."

As Jess crept back into the suite praying that nobody saw her, she rushed around trying to rid herself of Jason's scent from all over her body. Seeing no one there, she slipped into her room hurriedly and searched to find her pajamas. A few moments later, a loud knock came suddenly to her door, causing her to heart to stop. Her eyes setting on the doorknob that was rattling violently. On the other side of the door was Phil who had entered the suite in a mad hunt to find her.
"OPEN THIS FUCKING DOOR!" he yelled pulling with all his strength to get the door opened. Her eyes widen as the doorknob rattled more. Finally, Phil managed to kick it open and he stared at the half-naked girl before him. She was scared and clearly afraid. Her face was flush and there were red bite marks all over her neck and chest. Jess was trying to cover one large bite mark.
Shit," she muttered standing tall against Phil's anger. "What?" she demanded of him. There was murder in his eyes.
"Who the fuck was with you?" he sneered out. His hands were clenched close nearly turning white.
"Why would you care!" she shouted at him grabbing for her shirt. "I was never out!"
Phil stepped inside the door and with several steps grabbed ahold of her arm. His voice raised as he began yelling at Jess once more. This time Jess screamed back at him to let her go as well as trying to defend herself against his stance. Stu and Alan entered the suite slowly hearing their words clearer as they drew closer.
"Thank God, she's isn't dead," muttered Stu as they rounded the corner.
"— NO, YOU MAY NOT SEE HIM AGAIN! —" screamed Phil as he threw open the door suddenly walking out, Jess following behind him tears streaming down her face.
"YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SAY THAT! WE AREN'T TOGETHER! I'M ALLOWED FRIENDS!"
"NOT HIM! YOU SNUCK OUT WITHOUT ANY OF US – WITHOUT ME! TO WHO KNOWS WHERE! WE COULD HAVE LOST YOU TOO!"
Jess stopped as did Phil when they saw Stu and Alan watching them quietly. Phil threw his arms down as she ran back to her room holding her face and slammed the door close behind her. Stu dropped his head and, though agreeing with Phil, remained quiet as the man kicked a chair out of his way and then sat down on the orange sofa.
It was nearly two hours before Phil stood up again and reentered her room, long after the loud sobs had stopped. After that confrontation, Stu was convinced that there was something between them, something that probably— no, his mind begged, were they together behind our backs?
Through their screaming, Stu was certain of one thing. Phil and Jess had their own secrets, and if that boy she was with triggered Phil in that way, how deep did their relationship go? She even shouted they weren't together. Something happened in Phil's mind when he saw Jess with that boy, rather threatening like, and it seemed he was not someone Jess had mentioned before to any of them. Stu couldn't even remember her mentioning the young man before. Was he someone completely a stranger to them?

Jess opened her eyes seeing the neon red of 3:00 flashing on the alarm clock. She was laying on the bed the blanket wrapped around her body as she had fallen into a fitful sleep. There was a weight on the bed near her arm and turning slightly, she saw Phil peering at her, his hands rubbing hers. Sitting up slowly, she pushed her hair back and looked down feeling ashamed of her actions during the night. There were red marks on her collar that Jason had given, it conspicuous against her light skin tone. Tears began forming in her eyes again, and Phil cupped her cheek bringing her attention to him.
"Jess," he softly spoke looking at her in concern. "Please look at me?"
Shaking her head, she felt a tear escape and he forced her head up again to see directly in her blue cloudy eyes. She should have known better because she knew his temperament and nature, but this was out of character for him even. He had become do jealous so quickly at the sight of her with Jason and it made her only curl up again away from him.
"Please, I need you understand where I come from with everything." Finally looking into his firmly, he sighed and let go of her face.
"You had told us you were going to stay in the villa. You didn't. It scares me to think of where Doug is now but to lose you too would kill me inside! I can't lose you. Okay? I love you more than you realize, and I needed to know where you are and that you were safe. I don't care that you have boyfriends, shit I'm married still, and look what we do together behind everyone. I need to know you are safe and I promise to always love and protect you.
"You scared me Jess and I'm sorry I yelled. I just – I just know that you scared me."
Jess listened patiently as he spoke and here in the moment, her heart stopped realizing the weight of his words in the moment. There was more to them than teacher-student; but a deeper friendship that they carefully guarded until this weekend when in their drunken state caused them to actually push through the red tape of the lies, they were telling themselves. They held hands and kisses over the last eighteen months, alarmingly getting closer, but now—
Phil grabbed her hands as her mind raced and he leaned over giving her a bear hug making her mind go blank. Sensing the relief she was okay, he stood up and extended his hand for her to stand too. Getting up, they hugged once more and she perked on her toes to reach him, catching his lips in a part.
This kiss was different though, it meant more this time than the heated, passionate ones they shared before. It was a grown-up kiss that held more to it.
"I'm sorry! Can you forgive me?" he asked quietly holding her close once more. "I didn't mean to yell."
"You did act out," she smiled seeing his reasoning.
"Come on, let's get Stu and Alan and meet Lucky Charm. It's a drive out there."
They exited the room holding hands finding Stu sitting on the sofa nervously with Alan asleep. Finding their shoes, Jess sat down grabbing her first sock and pulling it up, followed by the other next. Stu was reaching for his too and silently everyone got their shoes on and went to leave. Phil closed the door behind everyone, the bag heaping of money for Lucky Charm in his hands.

Jess rode in the back seat with Alan out to meet Lucky Charm. Phil as usual was driving, while Stu was making a most careful count of the money. Her eyes remained on her fingers or the outside which slowly grew into daybreak. Faint pinks and oranges filled the sky as she silently sat. In their argument, he was right. It would have worried Doug and Stu as well. In their yelling, he had grabbed her arm and there was a light pink mark where his thumb dug in, but she understood his concern in the moments after. He had stood there in such anger that it shocked her at first because it was an expression she had never seen before of him. She had tried to take several steps away from him, but his longer legs brought him closer than she realized.
"You're an asshole!" she had screamed first after his grabbed her firmly.
"You are the brattiest bitch I know! And a know-it-all girl, who—"
"At least I don't cheat on my partner!" she yelled feeling a bit ashamed now of her words.
"We agreed to that!" he had snarled pointing a finger between them. "We agreed to this—"
"OH did we? Last time I checked you were married… OHH and I'm supposed to text Carol to say we fucked each other silly! And just how much trouble you think you'd get into with the school?"
Deep down, Jess knew that mentioning Jason would not end well but after Phil began berating the boy she felt obliged to defend him. He began arguing how she had ran off and was potentially sexually trafficked, but it was disregarded when she confessed she had planned on meeting him long ago on chat.
"— NO, YOU MAY NOT SEE HIM AGAIN! —" screamed Phil as he had thrown the door open suddenly turning and walkout, she following him knowing tears were falling down her face.
"YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SAY THAT! WE AREN'T TOGETHER! I'M ALLOWED FRIENDS!"
"NOT HIM! YOU SNUCK OUT WITHOUT ANY OF US – WITHOUT ME! TO WHO KNOWS WHERE! WE COULD HAVE LOST YOU TOO!"
When they saw Stu and Alan quietly by the door, it shut them up instantly and it made her run back to the room and just cry because it was overwhelming in the moment to be next to Phil where she was legitimately fighting with him over a feat that didn't include him. Observing the mark again, she saw he was eyeing her from the rear-view mirror and the downcast sigh meant he was genuinely sorry for it all happening.
Stu had counted the money and happily cheered there was over $82K in the bag. More than enough, but not worth it to her. She only wanted Doug back and to be rid of Phil until Monday morning for school.
Alan began to sing loudly beside her about them being the three best friends that anyone could have, but even that wasn't cheering her up. She shifted in her seat listening, but ignoring Alan as he did so more. Finally, they reached Big Rock and there was a black Escalade facing them. No one got out of either car.
"Now what?" asked Phil, turning off the engine, and sitting back in his seat.
"Give him the signal," spoke up Stu motioning to the lights.
"What signal?" questioned Phil.
"Flash your lights. Let him know it's on," said Stu, again.
"What's on?"
"The deal," said Jess impatiently, her eyes on the black Escalade across from them.
"Of course it's on. We just drove 30 miles into the desert. He knows it's on," snapped Phil, looking back at her. He saw she looked down and sat back in her seat, avoiding his glances.
"Phil, just do something," insisted Stu loudly.
"Fine," he muttered and flicked his lights. A moment later they flicked theirs. "Oh, shit…."
"See? All right, let's go," said Stu getting out of the Mercedes. Phil got out and pulled his aviator sunglasses down onto his face, as Jess gracefully stepped out through the window with Phil's assistance. Alan however, in his clumsily way, fell through the window onto his face as he tried to get out.
"Funny fat guy fall on face," laughed Lucky Charm pointing at finger at him.
"You okay?" asked Jess, helping him up and brushing off the dust from his back. Phil, feeling brave, stepped up first.
"All right, we got the money. Eighty grand, cash."
"Throw it over. Then I give you Doug," replied Lucky Charm without thought. The two squared off for a moment as Stu stepped forward.
"Um, I'm sorry. First of all, good morning," he began, "And we didn't catch your name last night."
"Mr. Chow. Leslie Chow," he replied with wonder. Perhaps he never reacted kindly because everyone acted as Phil had. So, the manner that Phil presented was the norm. Jess nodded and stepped next to Stu.
"Mr. Chow, it is a pleasure. My name is Jess," she said with a big smile, like she was trying to sell those girl scouts cookies she did years ago. "And we would very much appreciate an opportunity to see my brother Doug… before we give you the money."
Stu held up a hand and placed his other on her shoulder to stop her. "Just to verify that he's okay. lf that's cool," he said, praying that would be fine.
"Of course, Jess," said Chow, a bit shocked by Jess and Stu. "That is cool." Chow called for one of his thugs to bring Doug near.
"Oh, thank God," muttered Stu. Jess took another step forward unsure. No… His shoulders were too bulky to be her Doug….
"Okay. See, he fine. Now give me money... or I shoot him, and I shoot all you motherfuckers, except her. I can't kill a woman. And then we take it. Your choice, bitches."
Chow looked at each of them and his eyes settled on Jess. "You or him. Your choice. I don't really need that, but I need a lady to educate these boys," he laughed waving a hand to the thugs behind him.
"Why the hell would I do that? I don't even know you," Jess screamed stomping her foot down.
"Like that fucking boy last night," muttered Phil, giving her a nasty look and crossing her arms.
"Shut the fuck Phillip," she snapped, turning so sharp that dust flew up, shocking all at her sudden turn. "That's different!"
"You are a fiery one," said Chow suddenly with delight. "Are you sure, you don't want to come with us? Clearly you can dress right."
Jess looked down at her clothing again and frowned. There was not wrong with her choice of clothing. Her tank top was not revealing at all, except for the lack of belly pouch stomach, which she worked hard on maintaining with Doug's helpful healthy tips. The shorts were just that, short on her long body. She knew if she bent over they might see her lower back but Phil would enjoy the view.
"Give him the money, Stu," mumbled Phil, becoming frustrated of Jess and Chow's words.
"Okay. It's all there," said Stu tossing the bag over. After making a careful quick count, Chow shouted out, "Let him go." They lead the man over to them and removed the cover on his head. "Ta-da!"
"Is this some kind of joke?" snapped Phil throwing his hands up. "Who the hell is this?"
Jess covered her mouth. It wasn't her brother; in fact, he was a brother, but not hers! The man was a dark-skinned with a light brown jacket on and a willowing white shirt. There was a stocking on his head and a wide piece of silver tape on his mouth, preventing him from speaking.
"That is not Doug," said Stu as matter of fact pointing at the man before them.
"What you talking about, Willis? That him!" said Chow waving his fingers around as he spoke.
"No, I'm sorry, Mr. Chow. That's not our friend," said Stu looking at Chow again. "He... That's..."
"The Doug we're looking for is a white," said Alan, looking around at Chow.
"Where the fuck is my brother?!" screamed Jess pointing at the man before her.
The thug that was holding the man ripped off the tape from him which caused the man to gasp loudly. "Ah! I told you had the wrong guy, little boy. Damn, Alan, what the fuck you got me into?" The man took several steps toward Alan as if he knew him.
"Wait, you know him?" asked Phil throwing a hand between them.
"This is the guy... that sold me the bad drugs. How you doing?"
"I didn't sell you no fucking bad drugs," spoke the man.
"Wait. He sold you the Ruphylin?" asked Stu, getting quite nervous.
"Ruphylin? I sold you that Ru...? Wha...?" questioned the man but Phil kicked the ground and snapped around at Chow.
"Who gives a shit?! Where is Doug?" demanded Phil at Chow.
"I am Doug," spoke up the man. Phil looked back at him with misunderstanding painted all over his face. Jess let her head drop knowing they still had to find her Doug. Alan was beside her chatting like nothing was wrong about who this man. Jess looked up as Chow sighed.
"Come on," said Chow walking away, satisfied he got his money back.
"Hey, Chow. You gave us the wrong Doug!" said Phil quickly before he got too far away.
"Not my problem," smiled Chow waving a goodbye at Jess.
"No, fuck that shit. Now, you give us our 80 grand back and take him with you!
"No. Come on. I'll be your Doug," begged black Doug.
"Oh, yeah, okay. Oh, I take him back. Right after you suck on these little Chinese nuts…" spoke up Chow turning to them. He firmly gripped himself and tugged a bit.
"Ah. That's nasty," commented black Doug. Jess turned to cover her mouth and leaned down on her knees. They turned as Chow spoke once more.
"Mmm. How that sound? Unh, pshh. So long, gay boys!" Jess listened as the doors of Chow's Escalade closed and the engine start.
"Goddamn it!" screamed Phil as Chow drove away.
"Gosh darn it!" repeated Alan.
"Shit!" said Phil kicking the ground.
"Shoot!" repeated Alan of Phil's actions. Jess sank to the ground, crying as the men walked around trying to figure out what to do. After a moment of quiet, Phil reached down to get the sobbing Jess and she had collapsed on the dirt.
"Get up! We're leaving!" mumbled Phil as he pulled her up fully. Wet tears trickled down her cheeks as Phil threw Jess into the car in the passenger seat
"She got a nice ass!" commented black Doug with a smirk. Phil gave him a nasty look of hate.
"Dude, shut the fuck up, or you won't get back to town," he snapped slamming the door close and walking around to the driver's seat.
Stu, taking the middle seat of the back, with black Doug and Alan, sighed knowing the drive back was going to be hell. Phil slammed his door and started the car up. After a few minutes, he checked his phone and tried to read it but could not.
"Jess what time is it?" he asked showing the phone, but she body was turned away from him, her knees in her face. Stu stopped him as went to shake her shoulder.
"Phil, stop. Leave her alone," said Stu calmly thinking back to hours ago. The morning breeze blew in her face but she ignored Phil's prying hands moments ago. Until then, she was worriedly watching the desert fly by her eyes, her knees brought up to her chin to mask the shaking she was doing. She felt Stu's hand land on her shoulder to stop Phil, but still she didn't move.
"Don't you think you've caused her enough harm?" asked Stu, his hand lifting from her.
"What are you talking about? I've not done shit to her," muttered Phil.
"Yes you have. I saw it," said Stu confidently.
There was a deaf like silence as Jess' eyes opened wide as she remembered Phil's embrace but had Stu seen them? A moment later, he confessed he saw from a distance observing them embrace after Phil had explained himself in Jess' room. Had they left the door open?
"She's a kid, Stu," mumbled Phil a moment later, pushing his hair back. "I was comforting her after getting her upset."
"You were and have done more comforting to her lately," he sternly replied. Phil clenched the steering wheel ignoring Stu's questions.
"Doug should have left her ass at home then. Maybe nothing would have happened then—" he snapped feeling the heat in his stomach.
"Probably Jess is going through a hard time right now. She probably feels like she is losing Doug—"
"— I mean – Yeah its hard. Doug is getting married and leaving her again. But I'll there for her unlike before!" protested Phil sensing Stu's real questions. "I'll be there for her!"
"Well she's here and there nothing we can do about it now," said Stu quietly. A few moments, silence passed them before Phil let out a snicker.
"Hey, we could leave her out here." He threw his arm out the window, earning him a punch on his arm. "OWW!"
"No, we aren't! Why would you do that? Why would you even consider that? I would kill you myself if Doug didn't."
Phil took a look at Jess and let out a long sigh. "I don't know… She… She's just a kid… out here with us…."
"Yeah, but she is alone and scared of losing Doug," offered Stu looking at Jess. "He is all she has."
"No, the fuck he isn't. She has me and you, and that's all she needs!"
Stu sat back in defeat to Phil's words, placing another piece of the puzzle in. Phil drove for a while before stopping the car and stepping out to sigh, making a phone call.
