Interlude: Fall of the Mystic Academy

The once pristine halls of the Mystic Academy were marred with smoke, ash and blood as hundreds of dark creatures waged war on the unsuspecting faculty and students.

Seraphina Spellman lashed out with her enchanted whip, her golden hair flying all over her face as she jumped. It latched around the leg of a hidiac, enabling her to hurl it at an incoming horde of merlocks.

Her eyes narrowed as she saw a chimaera monster approaching the classroom, leaving a trail of fire in it's wake in the corridor.

Seraphina thrust her hands forward and a wall of silver light replaced the broken door of her classroom. She looked at her charges- young mages and warriors who were being trained by her to be the next generation of mystic knights.

"Make no mistake. This is a battle of survival." She instructed, taking out a device from the pockets of her silver coat. It was her lunar cell morpher. "These monsters know no honour or mercy. Do not hold back."

She got many nods though despite their best efforts, the young ones could not hide the fear in their eyes.

"Magical Source, Mystic Force!" She yelled, raising her morpher and activating it's power.

In a burst of silver light, the magical armour manifested over her, imbuing her with untold power.

"Power of the Moon, Lunaris Knight!"

"Ancient Mystic Mode!" Her students followed her suit, calling on their magic and transforming into their warrior forms.

The barrier shattered and the chimaera roared. Several evil fire spirits burst out from it's mane, surrounding them.

"May the power protect us all!" She let out a battle cry, charging at the monster.

Amaya Ozu leapt, narrowly avoiding getting hit by a bolt of dark lightning.

It was a dark mage who wore a tengu mask and black robes. She looked around to where her students had been immobilised by the mage's curse.

Despite being a potions teacher, she was no novice to war. She had been the blue mystic in the great war.

The sapphire pendant around her neck glowed. Armoured scales covered her body and gills appeared on her neck.

"Sirenix!" She announced, a trident appearing in her hands as she leapt at her opponent.

Gale clapped his hands together, a strong gust of wind slamming forwards and sending the encroaching monsters staggering back.

He never thought he would have to fight the forces of the Underworld again but when has his wishes ever come true.

"Run!" he ordered his students, the pink bracelet on his wrist shining brightly. He ran his fingers through his short curly pink hair and smirked as the monsters finally regained their balance and roared at him.

Giant butterfly wings sprang from his back as he took to the air, pink armour manifesting over his body.

He charged at the monsters with his spear, promising to himself to protect his students at all costs.

Udonna grabbed hold of Clare's hands as they ran amidst the chaos towards the atrium, where the Mystic Wands resided.

Knights and sorcerers took on any merlock who blocked their path, providing a clear path for them.

They entered the atrium just in time to see the Snow Prince getting thrown across the hall and slamming his head on a pillar, falling unconscious.

Several knights lay unmoving and bloody on the marble floor while the Mystic Mother was locked in combat with a sorcerer in black robes. Udonna's eyes widened as she recognised who it was… the leader of the Underworld's dark mages, known as the Heretic.

The mystic wands hovered in a protective sphere near the Mystic Mother, it's energies flowing out to empower her.

Udonna flung her arms forward and a blast of white magic slammed against the mage, throwing him back. Not giving him a chance to retaliate, the snow sorceress trapped him in a block of ice.

The Mystic Mother heaved a sigh of relief as she rested on her throne.

"That won't hold him for long. You two must go to the stronghold." She told them urgently, flicking her arms and the orb containing the wands floated towards them.

"No, we can't leave you or the others." Udonna protested.

"This is how it must be, my dear." The elderly witch said. "Trust in the Xenotome. I have enough magic to break through the barrier of dark magic trapping us here and transport the two of you out of here…"

"But-" Udonna's pleas were cut short as the slab of ice shattered and the dark mage broke free.

"GO NOW!" The Mystic Mother shouted, aiming her wand at them as golden light enveloped them and the orb, whisking them away to the safety of Rootcore.

"NO!" The Heretic shouted in rage. "You will pay for this, witch! Your school will burn and your entire realm will follow!"

The Mystic Mother smirked at him.

"I doubt that. Do you know who I am?" She asked, standing up and walking down the dais.

"Should I care? I killed the Mystic Mother before you. You will be no different." He flicked his wrist and bolts of dark lightning shot at the witch, only for her to laugh as it hit her.

"Look closely."

"Enough riddles!" The Heretic came at her with his scythe, which she blocked with a golden staff which appeared in her hands right on time.

"That staff? You!" The mage stepped back in shock.

"Before she passed, Zanna chose me as her successor." The sorceress said firmly. "I used to be Rita Repulsa, the dark mistress, the scourge of the universe… And you are a fool for thinking you can best me. All you are doing is giving me a measly headache."

"Doesn't matter. My forces will tear apart this school."

The ruby in the staff glowed ominously.

"Do you know what my specialty is, Heretic?" She asked, completely ignoring his threat. "Time Magic. I have seen the future. The Academy may fall but so will you and your forces."

"Bold words!" He spat, swinging his scythe and an arc of dark energy forced her backwards.

"We'll see." The Mystic Mother slammed her staff to the floor, speaking in an ancient tongue.

"NO! Wait!" The Heretic ran at her but it was too late. A white wave radiated outwards, consuming everything in it's path, both monsters and mystics till there was no trace of the Academy left.
