The State Verses Derek Morgan Ch 34

It had been a rough morning at casa Rossi as everybody started getting ready to head to the funeral home, today was going to be as hard or harder than the day they'd found out she died because after today they won't be able to see her again. Sarah and Desi had broke down in each others arms during breakfast, the girls both loved Penelope like a sister, she was the bright spot in everybody's lives and now with her gone there would only be darkness.

Fran broke down while she was getting dressed, she's remembered Penelope picking out a beautiful outfit for her, she'd always considered Penelope to be a daughter, she felt as much like a daughter to her as Desi and Sarah did. She would forever miss the radiant blonde that had filled their lives full of love and laughter what time she'd known them.

Dave spent the morning in his library deep in thought about Penelope, she'd always been his daughter as far as he was concerned, he couldn't have loved her more it she'd been his own child, she meant the world to him. He knew that today when they laid her to rest that the team would fall apart, she meant the world to all of them and with her gone, who would be left to pick up the pieces of their broken hearts.

He reached up and wiped away the tears that were sliding down his cheeks, he wasn't much of a crier but since she'd died he'd cried more than his share it seemed, today he would remember her laugh, her smile, her heart, she was an amazing person, a bright star to all that knew her.

Dave was currently standing in front of the fireplace looking up at a family picture, the entire family was together and the picture looked amazing, especially Penelope's beautiful smile, she was standing up front beside Derek and he had his arm wrapped around her and of course everybody was smiling because Penelope had said something funny right before the photographer snapped the picture.

There would never be anybody else like her, she was one of a kind and now without her Derek and the others were all lost, they didn't know where to turn or who to turn to because they always had the all seeing all knowing oracle to turn too but after today they would all be on their own.

Fran and the girls came downstairs and stood in the doorway watching Dave, he was as devastated as everybody else was, he was heartbroken, shattered, lost just like everybody else in the family. He glanced up when Fran said, "it's time for us to head out Dave", he nodded his head and made his way across the room to Fran and the girls so they could go and do the last thing that anybody wanted to do and that was say goodbye to Penelope Grace Garcia forever.

Meanwhile in Derek's hospital room he was there alone but a knock to his door pulled him from his thoughts, he watched as the door opened and Shane stepped inside, he said, "how did you get here?", Shane said, "Mia brought me, I told her that I'd like to see you for a couple of minutes today", Derek watched as he got closer and closer to the bed.

Shane said, "she loved you ya know?", Derek smiled and said, "I loved her too, she was my everything", Shane said, "I can see that Derek, she meant as much to you as you meant to her and in this life something like that is rare". Derek nodded his head and said, "that it is Shane, that it is", the two men were quiet for a few minutes before span Derek said, "thank you", Shane said, "for what?", Derek said, "for doing everything that you are doing to help me and baby girl".

Shane smiled and said, "well I don't believe for a second that you could or would ever hurt her and she deserves justice", Derek nodded his head and said, "that she does and we'll get it for her won't we?", Shane blew out a deep breath and said, "oh hell yeah we will", he then walked over and held out his hand and said, "I am so sorry for your loss Derek, I truly mean that", Derek shook hands with Shane and said, "thanks man and I'm sorry for your loss too, I know how much she meant to you".

As he turned around and walked to the door where Mia was standing he said, "there will never ever be anybody else like her, not in this lifetime, not in any lifetime", Derek said, "truer words have never been spoken". Mia looked at Derek and said, "I'll be back right after the service", Derek nodded his head and said, "thank you Mia, thank you for everything that you've done for me", she said, "don't thank me yet, wail till you're a free man and then thank me".

He smiled and said, "deal", he then watched as Mia and Shane walked out of the room, just as soon as the door closed he said, "I love you baby girl and I'm so sorry that I can't be there today". He blinked as the tears that were burning his eyes slid down his cheeks, he'd never get to see her again, never feel her arms wrap around him, never get the chance to tell her that he's in love with her, never get the future he'd dreamed of with her.

All of that was gone and now he was left to live his life alone without the woman he loved, it would be hard but he'd try, for her, he'd try", he then laid his head down and cried for quiet some time before he'd drifted off to sleep, maybe just maybe he'd have sweet dreams of her today, he needed that, he needed the sweet, bring on the sweet.
