Hm, so welcome back. I'd honestly thought I would be getting this chapter out earlier but I guess not. Since I'll be starting school in like a couple of days, updates will slow down, not like it'll really make a difference seeing as you people waited this long for a new chapter.
So I didn't really expect any reviews on the first chapter seeing as I'm a novice on the site but I did!
Kunanonyantakanok (I really hope I spelled that right): Thank you for being the first reviewer! And I hope more reviews are to come! Yessir all the girls are all OCs. I plan to add a few more to make this story feel like an original story but with MHA surrounding it. Don't worry though! Everything in this story will follow the timeline and such and there'll be some original arcs down the line!
Enough chit chat let's get to the story. If you feel like someone's wrong with my writing or the story as a whole, kindly leave a review as it would really help and I don't own MHA. If I did I'd probably mess up the whole story by now.
His head was aching on the inside and his mind was foggy about the events that occurred in the previous few hours. All that was going through his head now was the fact he needed to go home, the comfort of him being with his family was a must. If anything had happened they would help, and probably find out what had happened to him.
"Ah, I forgot about the groceries and my phone. Mom's gonna be at my head for that." He thought while slowly shuffling in the general direction of home. Passerby noticing how he was still drenched, his white shirt soaked so much you could see flesh.
After five minutes of walking, Shinjiro felt everything go heavy and he wanted to drop to the floor like the strings of a puppet being cut. He couldn't pass out again, not on the sidewalk in the middle of who knows where he is.
"Maybe I can take a short rest, continue going in a few minutes." He gave in, turning into a small alleyway before his head started to ache really bad. He collapsed onto all fours and breathed heavily while holding his head. Visions flashed through his eyes, remembering being pinned by something with red eyes and fireworks going off.
Panting hard, he decided to stumble out of the alleyway and leaning on a nearby wall. For a moment, his azure eyes had lost its color and his skin going pale. He curled into a ball and silently cried to himself as the sky turned black and street lights turning on creating a single spotlight.
"Just…what's going on?" A voice of fear and confusion had echoed through the empty street. "Mom…Dad…" He said as he drifted off to sleep, hearing his own voices telling him to rest easy. However, he knew that he could never rest easy tonight.
*Line break*
Before Shinjiro knew it, morning had hit with the sun rays hitting his eyes. He groaned and stretched and rubbed his eyes before staring down at his hands, then his surroundings. "So it wasn't a dream after all"
He got up and dusted himself off, his clothes all dried up but stained with dirt and dust. He was about to set off for home until a rumble came from a certain organ. "Ah, I forgot I haven't eaten since yesterday." He rummaged through his pockets and sighed after realizing he still had his wallet with him. "Well at least this is the only thing I have left"
He checked the amount of money he had left before looking around him and spotted the grocery store he was at before. He silently made a victory sound that would have definitely label him as a weirdo before making his way in the store.
As it was still early in the morning, there weren't any people in there and the store manager is the only employee in at the moment.
"Manager! So glad to see you!" Shinjiro's mood shot up instantly.
The manager, however, did not reciprocate. "I'm sorry, do I know you?" He said after lifting his head from the register.
"How could you forget a regular, manager. It's me Shinjiro!"
The manager put a finger to his chin."Hmm, I don't remember any Shinjiro at all"
"Eh? Manager did you head your head or something cause you're acting really weird right now."
"Not that I recall"
"So he's not even going to try and deny the fact he hits his head daily" Shinjiro thought. "Ah! Y'know the guy who always seems to buy a load of stuff and not having enough hands to carry it. So you end up having to loan me a trolley every time"
"Oh! I remember him now!" The manager exclaimed suddenly.
"Oh good, he remembers me. For a second there I thought he forgot" Shinjiro sweat dropped internally.
"You're that Hack hero!" For a moment there, comedic glass broke and Shinjiro turned comically black and white. "Out of all the people he could have thought of, he thought of my BROTHER. I mean I know we look alike but seriously?!"
"No! That's wrong! Hack is my brother's hero name!" Shinjiro comically shouted. The manager gave him a weird look.
"Last time I checked, Hack didn't have a brother" Those few words made Shinjiro freeze. "Right? If I recall there's Mind Breaker, Queen Construction, and their three children. Two girls and one boy"
"Three?" His hand started shaking. "N- No, this can't be right. There's supposed to be four children"
"A- are you sure there are only three children!" Shinjiro blurted out.
"I'm pretty sure cause the last time I saw the family together was a few days ago when they came for groceries." Was the manager's reply. "Now, are you going to buy anything or stay here and interrogate me? I've got other things to do you know."
"A- ah right, I have a few things to get" On the outside, Shinjiro's voice turned calmer but he was internally freaking out as to what was going on. His thoughts were canceled out by the rumble that rang out through the entire store. Shinjiro just looked at the manager apologetically and let out a nervous laugh. "Hah, uhhh my bad" Before rushing to the cold section to pick out frozen foods.
He decided not to press on with the manager and decided that after breakfast, he would go home and see the spectacle himself. He got food necessary for breakfast and decided to eat it on the spot after yet another embarrassing stomach grumble. As he ate, he could not stop thinking about what the manager had said. "He said there were three children. That's impossible, okay calm down Shinjiro. Think about what happened yesterday but ugh my head isn't working."
He tried jogging his memory but he'd see the same things he saw the night before, flashes of a red-eyed monster and fireworks. "Ugh, it feels like my train's broken down at the junction"
After finishing his food, he thanked the manager and walked out of the store. He walked about a block from the store before getting another severe migraine and clutched his head in agony. He tried not to make any noise that would attract people but occasional grunts would sound from his mouth. More flashes appeared in his head, the man in the black suit and the same red-eyed monster. As if it couldn't get any worse, more traumatizing events that happened flashed in his eyes in fragments. The certain mall where he blacked out, the friendly security guard with his face obscured, and the long hallway with a door at the end.
Shinjiro soon found himself in that same hallway again. "What the hell is this? A dream? A hallucination?" If it was a hallucination then it was a very real one, the hallway looked like it stretched football pitches. He very carefully placed one foot forward and began a slow pace to the door, ripples occurring with each step. But with every step, the door seemed to go further away and the hallway extending. His pace sped up and eventually turned into him running but it was to no avail as the door kept getting further and further away, the ripples underneath his feet turned to waves and began dragging him down as fast as quicksand. He struggled but he was sinking fast and soon his head was the only one above the ground. Shoes came into his vision and as he was desperately struggling to maintain his sight, someone crouched down and whispered something that was unfamiliar to him. All that he saw was a smile before he went under, that was neither friendly nor comfort but of satisfaction.
Shinjiro quickly snapped back to reality and felt like he was in that dream for hours. He checked his watch, which was luckily still functioning, only realize that only a few minutes had gone by. He was stuck on the realization that all of that happening…was not a coincidence. He thought about it. "If it was a coincidence then how would you explain the security guard and the mall. I was lured into that mall by that monster and there was no way to tell that a victim would be entering the mall at that exact time and exact entrance. If the security guard did capitalize on me running into the mall then it would be a low chance that I would be taken since there were some people that had gone into the mall before me."
His train of thought continued as he walked back to his house. "I was picked for a reason…was it because I'm the quirkless son of two heroes? Someone having a grudge on mom or dad? But that can't be possible, all of the villains they battled are locked up so it must be someone behind the scenes." He looked up to see that he was already in front of his house. "Did I really just talk that long? Damn Midoriya might be right, I DO have his mumbling problem"
He took one big breath, walked up to his house, and knocked.
"Coming!" He heard a brief voice yell and sudden sounds of things falling. Shinjiro sweat dropped"Yea, that sounds like mom alright. When she panics she tends to break things" After what seemed like an eternity, he heard the door being unlocked and Rikona was standing there with a cheerful smile on her face. Shinjiro couldn't help but form a smile at the corner of his mouth, seeing his mom again after who knows how long made him emotional.
"Can I help you?" Rikona asked.
"I should try and take this slow, if what the manager said was true then saying I'm her son would be too suspicious." Shinjiro thought. "Ah yes, Daichi borrowed something for me for a while but he hasn't given it back. Any chance I could have it back?"
Rikona thought for a little bit before speaking up. "Hmm, who are you again?"
"Ah shit, I forgot to think of my name…oh well Shinjiro should be fine." "My name's Shinjiro ma'am."
"I don't think Daichi has ever spoken of someone named Shinjiro before" She said with a finger on her chin.
"Ah? He hasn't? Just what you'd expect from Daichi, always focusing on his inventions and not really caring about other people all the time"
Rikona cracked up. "Hahaha, yea he doesn't even care when he's around his family members. Come in! Come in!" She ushered Shinjiro into the house and as he looked around, he decided to ask something.
"So I heard from the store manager a couple of blocks away from here say that the Tojou family has three children? Is that true?"
"Hm?" Rikona stopped and question marks formed above her head. "What do you mean? The Tojou family always had three children"
Shinjiro felt his heartbreak after hearing that but tried to keep his composure. "I see…" His voice seemed to drift off a bit before Rikona went into the kitchen and called out from there.
"So do you want tea or anything to drink?"
"Just water is fine" He called back and in no time, Rikona came back with two glasses filled with water. He took the glass and thanked her, Rikona giving him a friendly smile in return. After taking a few sips from the glass, Shinjiro cleared his throat. "So, about the thing Daichi borrowed from me."
"Oh! I totally forgot you came here for that" Rikona exclaimed. "What is it you need Shinjiro?"
Shinjiro internally sighed "Of course mom, you tend to forget a lot of things" He thought of something that only he had and his family knew well that he had it. "I believe I gave him a Splinter 9000 drone for him to upgrade."
Rikona then made a face that was easy for him to deduce. She looked puzzled before bringing a hand up to her hand and began smacking it, shocking Shinjiro. "Daichi has so many drones but I don't think I've ever heard him using a Splinter 9000, But knowing me, I would have forgotten so I'm smacking the information out my head!"
"Uhh, Miss Tojou you don't have to do that you know. I mean I'm sure he has it in his room or something" Shinjiro frantically spoke, hoping his mom wouldn't keep hitting herself just for an item.
Rikona kept hitting her head despite his objections before screaming out. "I KNOW NOW!" Shinjiro having to cover his ears because of her sudden outburst. Rikona calmed down and cleared her throat. "Follow me to the storage room upstairs, your drone must be there"
"Storage room? I didn't know you had a storage room."
"Ah yes, we had an extra room in the house so we decided to use that as a storage room"
That had basically confirmed it for Shinjiro that he had been truly forgotten and especially by his own family hurt. His hair had dropped down forming shades on his eyes and was on the cusp of bursting into tears.
"Um, Miss Tojou? Daichi actually just texted me saying he got the drone and he'll be meeting me at the park, so I gotta go. Thanks for your hospitality!" He said before turning down and dashed out the front door. Ayano was on the other side as he bumped into her, but he didn't stop, instead he kept running and going around the corner.
"Tch, who does that guy think he is?" Ayano grumbled.
"Ah, Ayano your back this early?" Rikona asked even though she looked confused about what had just happened.
"Oh right, before I was so rudely interrupted… I was going to say that I'm done with whatever the school had for me so I decided to come back early. Who was that guy anyway?"
"Oh, that's just one of Daichi's friends who wanted something from him. Are you coming in?"
Ayano just smiled and walked in, closing the door behind her.
Shinjiro was now running to nowhere, tears clouding his vision but he paid no mind to it. He wanted to get away from the reality that was unfolding itself in front of him. Like Harry Potter ran away to Hogwarts, Shinjiro wanted to run too somewhere where he could live a normal life. It didn't matter to him that he was quirkless or he couldn't be a hero, he just wanted a normal life. He wanted to accept that now things are different but a part of him doesn't want to let go of that fantasy. The fantasy of being loved, the fantasy of a good life. He wanted to run away to a place where time would stop and his friends and family would be in that imagination.
He only stopped running when he bumped into someone, sending both off them to the ground. Shinjiro just groaned "Why does this keep happening to me"
"Are you okay young man?" The stranger had surprisingly got to his feet and extended a hand to Shinjiro. He looked very skinny as evident by his baggy clothes and sunken face.
"Ah thanks uhhh"
"Yagi, Toshinori Yagi" The stranger replied
"Thank you Yagi-san" Shinjiro got up and dusted himself off.
"What seems to be troubling you young man?"
Shinjiro looked up with a shocked expression on his face. "H- how-"
"I know a face that looks troubled when I see one" Toshinori said. "So tell me, what's bothering you?"
Shinjiro was lost for words, he had just met this person and he had snuffed out his facade. He didn't know what to say for the first time in his life. Shinjiro was always planning out what he'd say to get the best outcome after studying the person he was talking to but this time, his brain was on reverse and he couldn't give a definite answer if he could. "I- I- "
"It's okay to not tell me if you don't want to. After all, we did just meet and are complete strangers to each other." Toshinori interjected while putting his hand on his shoulder. Shinjiro just looked down, his bangs covering his eyes once again. "Welp, I'm going to head off young man. I hope you have the strength to overcome what's disturbing you"
Shinjiro just kept looking down as Toshinori passed him, wondering what he would do now. Time seemed to slow as Shinjiro looked up at the clear blue sky with the sun just reaching midday. After a while, Shinjiro started talking to no one in particular. "Well Shinjiro, you always did say you wanted to be on your own for a while" He reassured himself before walking to the nearest store to get lunch.
Nezu wasn't one to take walks in the park but when he did he'd enjoy the peacefulness of the wind in his fur and the people taking strolls. He'd also pay attention to the different types of people in the park since just taking a walk in the park would bound to be monotonous. There would always be families in the open space having picnics and having fun with their children, the elderly taking walks together and gossiping about whatever, and the shady teenagers testing their quirks in the back corners of the park. Everything seemed the same until Nezu saw one irregularity in the mix, a single teen sitting on a bench munching on a sandwich.
To a normal person, it would look like someone waiting for their friends or just watching the world go by but to the rat? Dog? Bear? It didn't really matter at this point but he knew that something was bothering the teen to be sitting in the middle of the park doing nothing.
Nezu made his way over to the teen and decided to park himself right beside him. However, the teen paid no mind to the strange creature sitting next to him but just finished the sandwich he had in his hand and threw it in the trash. Instead of taking off, the teen just slumped back down onto the bench and sighed loudly. Nezu just smiled but visible crosshairs on his head showed visible impatience before clearing his throat, rather loudly, startling the teen.
After a few seconds of intense staring, the teen spoke up. "So…what are you?"
"Who knows? I could be a dog or a mouse or a bear but most importantly…I'm Nezu!" Nezu happily replied.
"Shinjiro" The teen just said. However, in his mind, he just sweatdropped "What kind of person would give out their name just like that? Oh wait, there was Toshinori-san nevermind"
"So Shinjiro" Nezu started. "What is a young man like you doing in the park?"
"Oh nothing much, just watching the world go by that's all." Shinjiro simply stated.
Nezu raised an eyebrow. "You seem disturbed by something judging by your looks. Is anything the matter?"
Shinjiro let out a nervous chuckle. "Am I really that obvious?"
"To someone like me yes sir. Tea?" Nezu asked, pulling tea out of nowhere and offered it to Shinjiro. Shinjiro looked perplexed and began looking under the bench for any trace of tea. "Hahaha, don't bother looking for my tea. You'll never find it." Nezu creepily answered.
Shinjiro just gave him a stare that screamed weirdo. "Uh, thanks for the tea I guess."
"No problem! Now… is there anything I can help you with?"
Shinjiro was hesitant to tell Nezu about the predicament he was in and he diverted his eyes away from him. Nezu kept his smiling demeanor. "You don't have to tell me what's troubling if you don't want to"
Shinjiro recalled Toshinori telling him the same thing, but what if no one believed him? What if he would be shunned like before as if he was just another speck in the universe? What if he was treated like he never existed? All he wanted to live in a fantasy where everything was perfect. He then remembered himself telling Midoriya to speak it if something was bothering him. What he was doing right now was the opposite of what he told Midoriya and keeping his feelings in a locked chest in the deepest parts of his heart. He decided it was time to finally speak up and unlock the chest, even if it gets him shunned.
"The thing is…everything's not alright." Shinjiro spoke up. He decided to tell Nezu his entire story on what had happened that day. Nezu patiently listened while sipping his tea from time to time, not bothering to interrupt him. "That is about as much as I can tell you. My memories aren't fully clear and I get headaches whenever I think about it."
By the time Shinjiro finished, Nezu's smile had disappeared after keeping it throughout the entire story. Nezu set his cup of tea down onto the empty space of the bench and his circular black eyes had started to show more interest in the boy.
"So…you said you were experimented on" Nezu spoke up. But his voice wasn't the happy voice he had used before but it was the voice of concern. Shinjiro just nodded his head. "Now no one remembers you and you have nowhere to go?" The teen just nodded again. Nezu then closed his eyes for a few seconds before jumping and standing on the bench, looking Shinjiro in the eyes. "Alright! I'll take you!"
Shinjiro sweatdropped. "What the hell does he mean by "I'll take you!" Am I an animal now?" He snapped out of his thoughts and began processing what Nezu said. "WAIT! What do you mean you'll take me!" He comically shouted, jumping from his seat and pointed at the animal.
"I mean that I'll adopt you" Nezu said back, casually sipping on his tea. Shinjiro was taken aback, he didn't expect someone he just met would be friendly to him nonetheless adopt him.
"What do you mean that you'll adopt me!" Shinjiro's brain was still trying to process that a living, talking animal was talking about adopting him.
"Well, I'll have you know that I've been experimented on before. So I see myself in you, you poor soul" Nezu said.
"Don't call me a poor soul! I've been living a nice life I'll have you know!" Shinjiro shouted while pointing at him and shaking his arm up and down. It took a minute before Shinjiro realized that Nezu was said that he was an experiment. "Wait…you're an experiment too?"
"Of course! Didn't my appearance basically scream that to you?"
"Urgh!" Shinjiro comically fell to the ground as a depressing aura surrounded him. "For the first time in my life… I've never felt so stupid"
"Oh don't worry! I make people feel stupid all the time" Nezu laughed.
"The rodent didn't even try and deny it!" Shinjiro was internally screaming at this point. Not only did an animal outsmart him for the first time but it was the first time that someone made Shinjiro look dumb and break his otherwise cold demeanor.
"You have a cold demeanor?" Nezu asked out of the blue. Shinjiro instinctually jumped.
"W- wait! Did I say my thoughts out loud?"
Nezu just laughed in response. "Nope! From the moment I saw you, I felt like you were emitting a fragrance that deterred people"
"Why are you being so direct with me!"
"Cause I feel like you haven't smiled ever since the incident" Shinjiro widened his eyes as Nezu was right. He had kept a stone-cold face ever since the incident and he hadn't noticed. It was the first time in a few days that he had ever smiled. Shinjiro's mouth turned into a smile that invited people instead of pushing them away.
"Oho, would you look at the time! We've been here for a while." Nezu said. It had indeed been some time ever since they started talking as the sun was starting to set. "Come on, I'll take you to my place." He hopped down from the bench and started walking along the path.
Shinjiro finally felt happy for once, being taken in by a very nice person. As he got up, he saw people that looked familiar to him running around in the open fields. It was Mahiru and the others, joined by someone that was unfamiliar to him. "Seems like that's my replacement in this world huh" He wanted to talk to them, possibly jogging their memories but for the first time in a long while, Mahiru looked…happy. She hadn't been this happy ever since they were kids, but Shinjiro could never find out why she was acting like that.
Nezu had noticed his behavior after noticing he wasn't following him. So he decided to speak up. "Hey, Shinjiro-Kun. Before we go back, let me take you somewhere"
Shinjiro turned to Nezu and tilted his head. "Where's that somewhere?"
"Oh you'll see" Nezu said with what seemed like a menacing grin.
"So Nezu...what are we doing at the beach?" Shinjiro asked after a silent trip over. They were currently sitting on the sand as waves slowly crept up and down the shores. They were watching the sun slowly set as there was nothing to be heard other than the peaceful sound of the sea.
"Do you hear the sounds around us?" Was all Nezu said.
Shinjiro just gave him a confused look back. "Um, there's nothing but the sea?"
"Exactly" Nezu paused before examining a confused Shinjiro. "What I'm saying is that all you can hear is the sea which symbolizes peacefulness. Tell me Shinjiro-Kun, how do you feel now?"
It was as if Nezu's words were true, Shinjiro felt at peace. He closed his eyes leaving his ears to take in the peaceful sounds of the waves, he thought he had heard a train running by but that was just a figment of his imagination. More of his imaginations had filled the empty gaps of his brain as he drifted into the land of fantasy but it was short-lived as Nezu decided to speak up again.
"You're still clinging by a thread that this is all a fabrication of your imagination right?" Shinjiro opened his eyes to see the mouse still staring far into the distance.
"Y- yes. Even if it is real, I'd still like to turn time back to when I didn't get into this mess in the first place."
"No point in reminiscing about the past Shinjiro-Kun."
"H- huh? What do you mean by that Nezu?"
"I'm saying is that we need to look ahead into the future than being caught up by the past. You would want to enjoy the life you have now and in this case, try something new"
"I mean…what can I try? I'm just a quirkless kid with nothing special about himself. What could happen? Me entering U.A?" Nezu raised one eyebrow at that statement.
"What's there to say if you could?"
Shinjiro turned his head to Nezu, eyes widened. "Y- you don't mean…"
"That's right. I'll be making sure you enter U.A."
Shinjiro jumped up and stared at the mouse who hadn't once changed expressions. Wind had shifted his black hair from time to time, all while the sun slowly went over the horizon as white lights lit up the night sky. He felt like tearing up since this person had decided to not only talk to him, not only decide to adopt him but now he's being given a once in a lifetime chance to be a hero. Nezu got up and dusted the sand off his clothes.
"On one condition though.." Nezu said before turning around and walking back to the car, Shinjiro still in a statue-like daze. "You have to call me dad okay?"
"Eh?" This snapped Shinjiro out of his daze as he started running towards Nezu. "OI! What do you mean I have to call you dad!"
Nezu laughed. He knew that after this, nothing would be the same.
