AN: Hello, I just want to leave some explanation on the text format. I believe some things are self-explanatory but I want to be sure everyone knows and understands the format I use.
"Talking" When someone is talking out loud.
"Texting/On the phone/Radio news" I will use this on future chapters that's why there are different meanings. In this particular chapter Carbuncle uses a phone to communicate with Noctis.
'Thinking' When someone thinks to themselves.
"Words of a memory." Words that the character remembers another character saying.
If the text is in italic without the '...' then its a flashback moment.
Please enjoy!
He didn't wake up after that.
The doctors said it had nothing to do with his injuries, the prince simply didn't wake…
Regis never left his side, he held his son's hands the entire time… but still Noctis didn't wake…
She stared at the door with confliction, the man next to her smiled kindly before he left her alone before it. With her tiny hands she pulled the handle and peaked inside, afraid to look all the way in… "Your Majesty?"
He was surprised by how tiny her voice sounded, Regis turned to see the little girl that he'd taken in as his protégé and smiled his hand reaching towards her.
"Come in, Selene." She hesitated by the door and stared at him, with those golden eyes, he could tell she was scared and feeling guilty… he smiled at her, a gentle smile that seemed to encourage her, she walked his way, hands griping her dress as she stood before him. Regis smiled again and took her hands into his. "Can't sleep? It's pretty late, already."
Selene shook her head as she squeezed his hand and stared at Noctis who still slept. She bit her lower lip. "Is Noctis not going to wake up?"
The king's smile wavered, slightly, as he stared at his son's sleeping figure. He patted the girl's head, gently. He'd been so worried with Noctis that he forgot Selene had also suffered from that accident, she'd seen people getting killed, and she'd seen her friend being hurt, but she'd been brave and said nothing as they all took care of Noctis.
"He was hurt and now he needs a moment to heal…"
"I… I couldn't do anything…"
"Selene…" He embraced the trembling child as she sobbed silently on his chest, he did his best to comfort her.
She glanced at the boy and then reached for the pocket in her robe, she removed a small glass statue. "Maybe this will help," She said as she showed the statue of a butterfly to the King. "It was my mother's. I'll put it next to Carbuncle since he's the guardian of dreams… Maybe the two can guide Noctis back."
The king smiled at the child and caressed her cheek. "Then let's place it here," he said as he placed it next to Noctis head where Carbuncle already remained. "And wait for Noctis to come back."
Selene nodded and looked at her friend, eagerly waiting for him to open his eyes. As the hours passed however, the King picked the child up and laid her next to his son, letting her sleep as well.
He looked at the two for a moment and smiled, they looked cute together. Then he sat back on his chair and held his son's hand once more as he waited for him to wake up…
After a while the King fell into slumber.
As the clock above the fireplace reached the second hour, the girl shifted and stared at it, as if she saw something that others didn't… she moved the covers away from her body and turned to the boy that laid next to her. The butterfly was gone, Selene smiled and laid back down.
There was nothing around him, only darkness and the twinkling golden lights…
Then there was the sense of a floor, slowly he began to regain his sense of awareness. His fingers twitched, beneath them the warm ground, he could feel small sandy grains prickling at his cheek.
A soft breeze brush over his hair, and he shifted with a grunt. His eyes opened slowly as he adjusted himself to the environment. Green grass, trees, rocks, raised roots… he looked around confused.
"Where… am I?" He mumbled to himself, last thing he had remembered was… A blank filled his head as a painful sting struck him. "Ah!" He couldn't remember where he'd been before, but he was certain it wasn't here.
He looked at the sky, where the sun shone beyond the branches of the treetops. Then he looked at the forest ground, trying to see or find anything familiar.
It was then that a fury creature approached him, with a phone on its mouth.
"Eh?" It has large ears, like a rabbit, but its body looked more like that of a fox… except for the horn on the top of its head. The animal dropped the phone in front of him and turned away. "Eh? Wha...?"
The young prince looked at the phone and creature and quickly grabbed the phone, looking at the screen, clicking on the buttons and trying to see if it worked, or if he could call anyone. Unfortunately, wherever he was there didn't seem to be any sort of signal…
Noctis sighed, his arms falling in defeat as he looked at the sky. Suddenly the phone vibrated, it was followed by the small creature making a sound. He quickly looked at the screen where a message could be read.
"Hello! can you read this?"
"Whoa!" He looked both confused and fearful as he looked around confused. The phone vibrated again.
"In front of you."
'In front of me?' He thought as he looked up towards the strange creature. "Is… it you?"It nodded happily and turned around towards the forest, stopping for a moment to look back at him and meowl. "Eh?" Noctis asked confused, but when the small thing began to walk away, he quickly rose to his feet. "Ah! Hey, wait!"
As he followed the small creature it explained him what was going on, that this was the world of his dreams, but unfortunately it wasn't that easy to leave the world of dreams and for that they needed to find a way out.
"How do I do that?"
"Just stick with me and you'll be okay! By the way I'm called Carbuncle!"
"I'm Noctis." He nodded as he kept following the small creature he noticed the floating lights around them. "What are those?"
"Remnants."
"Of what?"
"Of chaos."
Noctis stopped and looked at the strange lights, with a bit more fear than before. "Will they harm me?"
Carbuncle looked at the prince and his phone received another message. "No, they are just supports, the world of dreams is connected directly to the Chaos, if someone goes too deeply in, they may end up in Chaos, that's why those lights they maintain the two worlds fairly separated… not completely though… besides that person likes to, take strolls."
Noctis tilted his head to the side. "That person?" He asked curious, to whom Carbuncle was referring to.
"Sorry… I can't tell you… Let's keep going."
As they began to leave the forest terrain and into a rockier place, the prince was surprised by many things. He saw giants, monsters, a giant snake, he saw his room, but he was the size of a toy, he turned into a car… and traveled to many places he didn't know…
It was a strange dream, filled with strange things. He walked towards the top of a hill, where a single tree remained, the sun was just about to rise in the horizon there was a dim light but the starry sky remained above him, and so many of those floating lights…
"We need to go Noct!"
"It's so pretty."
"We have to go! We're too close to the Door!"
"Door?" He asked, but his eyes didn't leave the floating lights.
"The Door is Odin's territory, it is the place where the worlds meet with Chaos!"
"So… beyond that, is Chaos?"
"Yes, we have to go!"
He didn't want to get near Chaos, so he walked back, as he did Noctis was unaware of the gaze that followed him.
Noctis followed Carbuncle threw the streets of the strange city and finally they found the tunnel, that would lead to the end of his dream…
The prince, could recognize the hallway, as he was well aware and familiar with it, for it was the one in his home. He could see the light at the end of the tunnel…
Carbuncle walked inside, but Noctis hesitated.
"What's wrong Noctis?"
He looked at the creature, at the end of the tunnel and back towards the unknown city.
"I'm… scared…"
"Don't be Noct. Up ahead is where your dream ends. The one place where you feel safest."
"The place where I feel safe?"
"Yes!"
He looked back towards the tunnel, but still he hesitated… a soft breeze brushed across his hair, as if pushing him forwards, he took a step inside and ran across the corridor.
He entered the other portal and felt that strange sensation of moving, but… as the blinding light stopped, he was surprised to see the Citadel's main entrance.
He looked around, everything was the same, the building, the floor, even the red bricks that stood out against the white marbled path walk and stairs… the street lights, all of it looked like his home… but, he also noticed the great amount of lights that floated around…
He walked down the stairs, slowly, as he looked at those lights and trying to understand what he should do now.
"There's someone over there."
Noctis gaze shifted towards the place Carbuncle mention, the lights there were more and brighter than anywhere else among them he noticed there was someone… but he couldn't see who...
Carbuncle rushed towards the street, towards the person but as it did, darkness burst through from the floor, and filled a pool from where an Iron Giant, tumbled forwards, with a swing it hit the small creature and walked towards Noctis with a great sword and a menacing gaze.
His body froze in place, as the monster stepped towards him, his hands were shaking and even if he wanted to run away he couldn't! All he could do was grow shorter and tumble backwards.
The Iron Giant raised its hand towards him, and Noctis cowered to the ground as he covered his head.
That was when, Carbuncle stood before him and growled ferociously towards the enemy. "Don't be afraid Noctis, I'll protect you, though your darkest dreams!"
The young prince stared at the small animal, astonished. Such a small creature, how could he be so brave? He had been so afraid… He'd wanted to do something, but he'd been too weak to do so… Like that time.
He gripped his hands into fists and remembered his father's words.
"Don't forget Noct, inside your dream, YOU are King."
He felt a new emotion fill him. He glared at the monster and set his stand. "This is my dream! And… I'm not afraid!"
As he said those words something changed inside him, and Noctis felt taller, more confident and stronger.
"Wow, Noct! Is that you?"
Noctis smirked at the small creature and glared at the monster before him, with confidence. "Let's do this!"
They sat, at the top of the building and watched as he fought.
"The boy, is quite nimble." He remarked as the boy evaded the long sword at the nick of time.
"He'll be quite handsome, too…" She smirked as she leaned her chin against her hand.
"Please…" The man sighed as he shook his head in disapprovement.
She giggled amused and licked her lips as she crossed her legs and leaned backwards. "Now, then, it should be coming to an end."
"Then I shall return to my post, behave."
"When have I ever?"
After he gave her a look, he disappeared through a portal leaving her alone, she looked back at the boy and smiled.
"Tick, tock… Noctis…"
He smiled as the monster finally fell, he was tired and the fight had costed him a lot, but he'd won. He turned to Carbuncle who rushed towards him with his tail wagging in the air. "You did it Noctis!"
He nodded and turned back to the place where the lights had been, but they weren't there anymore…
He looked back at Carbuncle and was surprised as he noticed the small creature wasn't alone. The woman, was petting Carbuncle. She wore a body tight dress, of a pale yellow adorned with embroidery and jewels.
Her hair was long and wavy, of a golden color and it was arranged into a loose braid that fell on her nude back. She was a stranger to him, and yet he felt a strange sense of familiarity as he saw her.
"W-who are you?" He asked, his voice wavering as he carefully approached her. He wanted to see her face.
The woman kept petting Carbuncle, but from where he stood, he could see her lips tugging into a smile.
"It's time to wake up, Noctis."
"Do you know me?"
She giggled and rose from her spot. His heart skipped a beat and he held his breath as she turned towards him, but… her long hair enabled him from seeing her entire face…
She brought her hand forward.
A butterfly fluttered past his face and flew towards her hand. "Carbuncle wasn't the only one watching you." She said as she tilted her head amused.
He blinked confused, she'd watched him? Why? He voiced out his question but she didn't give him a reason, instead she gave him another answer.
"Tick, tock… Time to go home." Her gaze shifted to the small creature who nodded.
"Okay." His phone ringed and before them his father's car appeared.
"Hey, it's your dad's car, I see, this is your safe spot! You feel safe in here because you feel close to your dad." Noct stared at the Regalia and nodded. "Go on."
He looked at the car and sighed… as he reached for the door handle, he stopped and turned back.
Behind him the furry animal had jumped into the woman's embrace. As she looked back at him her lips curled into a smile. "Have a safe trip." She said, as she waved Carbuncle's paw in the air.
"Everyone is waiting for you. Go on." Carbuncle said.
"Yeah… thank you and see you again." Noctis smiled, a warmth filling him as he entered the car, it had his dad's scent and his warmth… Noctis sighed, he felt safe and he was ready to go back home.
As the dream began to collapse Carbuncle looked at the woman who held him. "Will he be okay?"
She smiled and patted his head. "Yes."
"Really? He won't get hurt?"
The woman's gaze softened as she stared at the small Astral, she scratched behind his ears. "Everyone gets hurt little one, it means you're alive. Noctis will get hurt and lost, but I'm sure he'll be able to overcome it. We'll help him." As the darkness approached them, she looked towards the horizon, where she saw a clock reaching the second hour. "Yes… until the final hour comes, I'll make sure Noctis is fine."
He opened his eyes to the light that entered through the curtains of his room.
"Noct." A warm and familiar voice called his name, as he turned his gaze towards it, the young prince saw his father's relieved expression.
"Dad…"
His hand held his, it was a big and warm hand… Regis gave his son a reassuring smile. "Noct, dad will always protect you."
AN: Hello, here is Chapter numero dos, part uno! Some chapters, if not almost all of them, will be divided into parts because of word count and also because of certain events and time stamps xD Don't worry, that doesn't mean each part will take another week or so, I always write the entire chapter. The reason they might be separated by a day or two is because I like to re-read the parts separately before publishing them and sometimes I tweak them a bit, add some things, delete others, you know... author drama!
So wait one more day for part 2, I'm reading it right now!
Now, I would like to remind everyone that I don't own FFXV and its original characters, this is a fanfiction, created for my own amusement and for the entertainment of myself and others. The OC's are indeed mine, and the tweaks and changes to the original story are also mine, that is the only credit I shall take.
ALSO, I would like to inform that English is not my first language, it is my second language, as such I hope you can forgive any grammatical and spelling mistake that may have eluded me. That is all, I hope you enjoyed this chapter, until we meet again... in part 2.
