They glared at her. She didn't care. It had taken her four years to get there. She recalled every wound, every pain, every single time they tried to break her, but she persisted. Now they had no choice but to be quiet.
Selene raised her head to the leader of the Guardians, the Grand Master, an old man of brown eyes, scrawny beard, he wore a robe that held the insignia of the gods. His eyes scanned the people before him, until it fell on her, who was kneeling on the ground. He looked at her with the same cold and indifference as the others, like she was an eyesore…
"I am impressed. You've beaten Sirius record, child." He stated as he looked towards the place where Sirius was. Who gave a goofy smile. "Now you stand here, merely 12 years old. You passed all our tests, drills, missions, and finally you completed the final test which was to defeat a senior Guardian." His cold eyes fell on the wounded man who was glaring at the girl. "It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Guardians Order, my dear."
He raised his hand and placed it above her head. It felt wrong. She could feel as he pushed her down, telling her she was beneath him, stating it in front of everyone.
Selene clenched her jaw, something inside her was VERY much against allowing this man to touch her, and quite opposed to letting him push her down as he was, but she held it in. She drowned that voice that always seemed to whisper in her ear… and she listened to the words the old man spoke.
"We are Guardians!" His hands gesticulated towards everyone who'd gathered around. "Warriors chosen by the gods, to serve and protect the royal families. As such you must vow that you will follow all these pledges. One, you pledge to fight and protect Eos. One, you will only use your abilities in times of greater need. One, you will place the will of the gods and of the chosen Royal families, above everything else. One, you will follow all orders given to you, with the utmost loyalty." Silence filled the air among them, as the Grand master waited for the words to sink in. "You must vow on these terms with your name and blood. If you vow on these terms, then I welcome you to our family and I shall grant you, our mark." He pointed at the Grandmaster's assistant, who held red velvet pillow on top of it waited a silver mask.
A Guardian's mask was a sign and a protection, the mask had been blessed by the gods, or so the legend said… the mask served to keep her identity a secret, from those who would wish her harm and the ones she loved.
The grand master waited, they all waited, as she stared at the mask. The words he'd spoken ringing in her mind. "Warriors chosen by the gods." Those words, they itched, they felt wrong… She glanced at Sirius, who smiled at her encouragingly. She looked back at the mask. She'd fought for this, she'd bled for this, for the title of a Guardian, because she believed it was the right thing to do, however… "You will follow all orders given to you, with the utmost loyalty. You will place the will of the gods and of the chosen Royal families, above everything else." It itched. It irritated. It was wrong, distorted, drowned in lies and history that someone had changed to their own needs and desires.
She stared at the seal before her. By placing her name and blood, she would bound herself to the magic that it held. Selene closed her eyes. 'It's alright…'
They didn't know her real name, they didn't know her bloodline, and even if they did… Selene opened her eyes, there was a new sense of arrogance that rose with that knowledge and internally she smirked. 'The Ariadust family can't be bound by the gods, we are bound by something else…'
She placed her blood above the incomplete name she had given. Instantly she felt it. Shackles. Binding her, slithering around her and entering her mind, to bind her further to the will of the bound.
She shivered as they passed through her memories, but Selene quickly understood that some memories, some places in her mind were not available to the chains.
When she opened her eyes, she could feel the magic of the bound, around her, warning her that she was now under the control of someone else… but Selene wasn't worried…
The chains didn't go deep enough to harm her too much, and besides… chains can be broken.
The Grand master grinned and raised in his joy and in adoration towards the gods, then he held the mask and placed it against her face.
Magically the silver bonded to her, that too was another shackle, but this shackle was not god-made, it was man-made… The old man's lips shifted upwards for a moment, a smirk perhaps… but it was quick to disappear.
"Now, my new Guardian we must give you a Codename to call yourself…" He thought for a moment. A name, he could command, control her, he thought about it and as he did his eyes caught eye of a butterfly, posing on Selene's shoulder. The Grand master smiled, an insect, a fragile little bug that he could crush at any moment. "Ageha, your code name is Ageha…"
As she raised her gaze the old man gazed into her golden orbs and he felt a pressure, that disappeared as he blinked his eyes. Certainly, it had been just the sun in his eyes that made him think that, for a moment, Selene's eyes had shinned with power…
Year ME 748 Lunafreya, under the supervision of the empire, becomes the youngest Oracle in history at age 16
Princess Lunafreya was a kind and gentle soul, she cared for her people and for those who she could not reach to help.
Everyone loved and cherished the young princess who'd lost her mother at the young age of 12 and who faced the new challenge of becoming the youngest Oracle in history only four years after the terrible loss…
It was a great effort. She argued with her brother and with the Empire. As the Oracle she had the duty to help the ones in need, and although in the first years they had refused, Lunafreya was finally able of convincing the Empire.
She ventured out into the world to heal those in need, who had been affiliated with the Starscourge…
She would have been fine without any escort, for Gentiana was with her, however, they didn't accept that. It was a surveillance, Luna knew that, they merely wanted to keep her under their eyes, to keep her from running, to keep her from contacting the King of Lucii.
But they failed, she had kept contact with the Luci's, her letters always reached Prince Noctis, no matter where he was.
Luna sat in her room, her eyes scrolling over the notebook, smiling from time to time as she read Noctis remarks. She sighed and leaned against the sofa.
"My lady." Gentiana called as she appeared out of nowhere, Luna was used to it, the woman was a messenger of the gods after all.
"Sirius is late." She complained as she looked at the clock.
"Probably upsetting your brother."
The teen giggled, knowing the young man she had no doubt that that was possible. Sirius was the worse assistant and military man, he couldn't assist on anything, and he couldn't take orders, he did what he wanted when he wanted.
"That's probably right…" She sighed again as she rubbed Pryna's head, when the dog approached her.
When the clock hit the third hour, the door opened in an instance. "Luna, do you think your brother looks good in pink hair?"
Luna blinked, slightly astonished as she looked at her brother's second in command, walk into her room, with a goofy smile, like always. She couldn't help but giggle at his question. "Sirius, please tell me you didn't."
The man's smile widened, and he winked at her. "No, I was just asking your opinion, he's been working too much, and my puns aren't working anymore."
She brought a hand to hide her lips. "Have they ever?"
"Touché!"
"So, why did you want to talk to me?" She asked as she reached for the tea and stopped to look at the older boy. "I have no snacks."
The man placed a hand over his heart as he feigned wounded. "You make it sound like I only come here to eat, Luna, I am deeply hurt!"
"Of course not, you also come here to escape from work and my brother."
His expression turned into a smirk as he winked at her. "Double, ouch! I know when I'm beat. But I'm here on official business today, I'm here to introduce your new bodyguard."
Her hand stopped, the princess placed the cup back to its plate, and stared at Sirius, with a serious expression.
"I have no need for a watch dog. The people I help are helpless and in need of my blessing. They are not rebels, or anything like that!"
Sirius blinked and rubbed his neck, looking a bit uncomfortable, or perhaps bored, she could never tell. "Well, I'm just following your brother's orders."
"Then tell him there is no need."
"What if I told you that the bodyguard wasn't chosen by your brother, nor the Empire, but by me?"
She blinked and tilted her head. "You?"
"Do you want to meet her?"
"Her?"
He took that as a positive answer as his smile grew wider and he walked towards the door and signaled to someone.
When he came back inside, Luna was shocked. Following Sirius was a young girl, maybe 12 years old, of black hair and stunning golden eyes. She looked at the girl for a moment, not able to say anything.
"Princess Lunafreya, this is Selene, she will be your bodyguard as you travel the land."
Luna blinked, shared a glance with Gentiana, who too looked surprised and looked back at Sirius confused. His smile remained unchanged as he waited for her to talk.
"She's a child."
"Well, yes, but she's capable. And consider this, no one will suspect she's a bodyguard."
The young girl stepped forward and bowed her head. "A pleasure to meet you, Princess Lunafreya, may the gods' blessings be with the Oracle."
Her eyes widened as she looked at the two. "May the gods blessings be with the Oracle." She had heard those words before, a few years ago, when Sirius entered their service. She glanced at Gentiana, who bowed her head, in agreement with her own thoughts.
Those words were code, all Tenebrae rulers and all Oracles knew about it. It meant the person who spoke those words were Guardians. Now she understood Sirius calm demeanor, however… her eyes stopped on Selene.
"How old are you?" She inquired.
"Twelve, princess."
Her hands clenched the skirt of her dress and her gaze snapped back to Sirius.
The man smiled, understanding full well the princess's reaction. He stared at Selene, at her small body, she looked back at him, that gleam in her eyes. "She's the youngest child to pass the tests, there is no one who'll keep you safer than her, your highness." He said as he bowed gently, his lips hovering over her ear in a whisper. "Also, Selene will serve as messenger between Lucis and yourself, princess."
Once more she was surprised as she looked at Sirius and the still kneeling child. The revelation that such a young child had passed the tests of one of the strongest secret organizations, was astonishing. but knowing that she would serve as messenger for herself and the Lucii, surprised her even more… She glanced at Umbra and Pryna who walked towards the girl and smelled her.
She saw how the girl scratched their heads and smiled, a hint of a child's innocent smile. The two dogs wagged their tails and tried to get more pets from her, it seemed they liked the child. Hesitantly the princess conceded. "Very well, I hope we may be friends, miss Selene."
"I'm sure we will, your highness." The girl smiled at her, but Luna could tell that the innocent smile of a child was gone, this was a grown up smiling back.
