Hey readers, thank you to everyone who took the time to review and to everyone who took the time to read the last chapter. I don't own Divergent, the only thing I own is the plot, all military-related mistakes are mine. I did take some liberties with this chapter in terms of the military to make things interesting. I hope you all enjoy this chapter. Happy Reading!

Guest Reviewer #1: Thanks for the review. I could never write Divergent cannon, I applaud the fanfiction writers who can write a good cannon fanfiction, I, however, am not one of them. A/U is more my speed, Tris and Four get to come to play in the universe I have created for them. I know you wanted me to include their friends more, but before this moment, everyone was spread out all over the place. As of right now, Will and Chris are in the process of moving to Fort Eustis in Virginia from New York with a stop for Tris and Tobias's wedding. Will also has training in Maryland at Joint Base Andrews. Tris and Four are going to Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, but not right now in the story eventually that will happen, Chris and Will will make some appearances in the story. Zeke and Shauna will make more appearances in the story as well, they are currently at Andrews in Maryland with Tris and Tobias, and Zeke is on the same orders as Tobias. Uriah and Marlene are still in New York at Fort Hamilton, they won't be around until Tris is in Virginia for a while. And well Lynn, won't be around until book #3.

Guest Reviewer #2: I'm glad you enjoyed the last chapter. It's okay to feel bad about Tobias being jealous, but he chose to not tell anyone in his group PT he was married to Tris, to keep their marriage a secret even though he had good reasons behind it. Maybe coming clean with the PT group could have helped avoid some of the feelings he is feeling now. I don't know, just some food for thought.

Chapter 16: Tally Up The Score

Exiting the bathroom, I feel eyes on me while I am walking down the dim hallway. To the left, the door to the cafe, my eyes glance down the darkened corridor in front of me. Where did Tobias run off to? He wasn't in the men's room, I got odd looks from the two guys discussing drinking after work when I walked in and ran out whispering hushed apologies. My eyes fixate for a moment on the darkened corridor. Did I see movement? I sigh, take a step, then stop, my hand reaching for the door. My fingers lightly touch the door, slightly opening it, glancing in for Tobias, but he isn't in there. Suddenly, I feel a rough hand wrap around my mouth and waist at the same time, yanking me backward with a deep male voice, hesitantly, whispering into my ear, "Please, don't scream."

My accelerated heart is in my throat. I instantly recognize the velvety male voice as my husband. He found me instead of the other way around. His hand slips from my mouth, I breathe out, asking, "Tobias?" The accusation heavy in my voice. He spins me into his hard chest, not answering my question, his frantic lips meeting mine before I can question him further, walking us down the darkened hallway. He pulls away from the kiss with a worried look in his eyes, whispering against my lips, "Please say, you will always be mine, and that you will never leave me." Wrapping my arms around him, pulling him to me, attempting to comfort him, murmuring, "Where is this coming from? I love you and only you, always, remember?" He replies sadly, his eyes staring at his bright sneakers, "Of course, I remember. I guess I'm just feeling a little insecure and a little jealous about everything. Zeke made some stupid comments at lunch about how you and Ryan were looking cozy sitting at your table. I see the way Ryan has been staring at you today, and I don't like it. Ryan looks at you like you are a prize to be won. Maybe, it was a mistake to not tell these guys you are my wife," his lips kiss my fingers of my left hand. Pain radiates through my chest at his sadness, I mutter, "Would you be able to treat me any differently?" He nods his head, lowering his voice, "No." I shrug my shoulders, replying, "You already explained your motivation behind everything this morning to me. What difference would it make if these guys knew who I was married to? Do you think they still wouldn't look at me?" Touching his chin, I stare into his eyes, continuing, "I love you Tobias, and only you, please, don't be jealous of a stupid kid like Ryan." A smile tugs at his lips when my words fall upon his ears, he whispers, "I love you too, Tris, so much."

My fingers skate to his chest, I playfully respond, "I best get going before, Captain Eaton or I guess it's Lieutenant Eaton now, makes me run three miles or something awful for being late," pressing my lips to his cheek. Tobias's cheeks turn a slight shade of pink, laughing, "I'm pretty sure Lieutenant Eaton will be running late today for some reason for the first time in history, perhaps it has to do with his wife." I grin, hearing the word, wife, fall from his lips. I press my lips against his cheek, once again, and begin to skip away from him, giggling, "Still, I don't want to face his wrath. See you on the track, Tobias." His fingertips quickly wrap around my wrist, pulling me back to him, my back to his front, his breath skates over my ear, whispering, "You tell Lieutenant Eaton, to come to see me if he has any issues with you being late. I will personally kick his ass, and tell him he can go to hell for treating my wife the way he did this morning. I'm very proud of how well you ran this morning. You would have beaten Anderson even without him giving you an advantage." He spins me, a giggle escapes my lips while his lips lightly brush against mine, once, twice, three times before they collide with mine in a feverish heat. He nips at my lips, drawing little gasps out of me, pushing us further into the shadowed area of the hallway. My back smashes against the cement wall, his fingertips slide underneath my shirt, running along my bare stomach, leaving a fiery trail in their wake while I tug his t-shirt up to his chest. He toys with the edge of my shirt when he pulls away from my lips, a look of lust clouds his eyes, and his skillful lips move to my neck, drawing silent moans from my mouth. Momentarily, my mind clears from the haze which is Tobias, I gasp, "Aren't we going to get caught?" Breathlessly, he answers, "No, no one uses this tunnel unless the President is on the bases." His dark blue, confident eyes catch mine while his lips collide with mine once again, and together we lose ourselves in a few minutes of passion to each other where the rest of the world doesn't exist, only one another.

-Darkness Before The Light-

Tobias slides his navy blue shorts back into place over his hips, his Four facade slips firmly back into place, and his voice becomes different as he states, "Miss Prior, run along before everyone begins to question where we both have been. We don't want to start any rumors." A grin spreads across my lips, my mind drifting to all the rumors Ryan shared with me about Four that are swirling around the base. Narrowing my eyes, I ask, "Oh, I'm Miss Prior again, what happened to being Mrs. Eaton or Tris like you were calling me a few moments ago?" My eyes glance at my watch, continuing, "I hate to break it to you, Eaton, but I think we are way past being late for whatever you had planned for your torture session after lunch. I'm pretty sure those guys are either going to ask questions or won't care where we were." Tobias crosses his arms, not replying, narrowing his eyes, his voice sharp replying, "Get going now, Miss Prior, and don't worry, I will squash any rumors I hear swirling around about the two of us from the men. We both know, we need this stupid experiment to go well."

I whisper, "I don't think, I like Four very much," hurt fills his eyes at my statement, I continue, "At least this side of him. I like the gentle, caring side of him." Tobias rolls his eyes, muttering, "Does Four have that type of side?" Pushing me towards the door while he attempts to hold back a smile. I smirk, "Yes, he did when we first met. Also, you know my husband, Tobias, said to go find him, if you had any issues with me, and he would kick your ass if I didn't like the way you treated or talked to me, Lieutenant Eaton, sir." A smirk plays across Tobias' lips, "I'll hold him to that. Now, run along, Mrs. Eaton." Playfully, I sing, "Got you!" Rolling his eyes, responding, "I'm only human, you are my wife, but you are making this very hard on me." I giggle, retreating out the door to meet the rest of the guys on the field.

After my secret rendezvous with Tobias, the smile fades from my lips the moment I see all the men standing on the field in groups. Ryan spots me, waving, I stand next to him, waiting for Tobias to make his entrance. "Where did you disappear to? Captain Eaton is late, and he is never late to group PT," he smirks, his eyes on my neck. I shrug my shoulders, not giving him an answer, fighting the smile on my lips from my secret moment with Tobias. Ryan asks, "Why are you suddenly so happy about PT?" I laugh, "The day is almost over, isn't it? Can't I be happy about that? I'm thinking about the rather large glass of wine I'm planning on having over Facetime with one of my friends." He quips an eyebrow, replying, "I guess?" Tobias appears on the field moments later, beginning to bark orders, and I follow the herd of men down another road, not understanding what is going on. Tobias leads us to a large football field, he chooses two team captains and informs us we are playing flag football for the rest of the day. I groan, not wanting to be tackled by these guys.

Tobias sits out of flag football, watching, even though the men attempt to goad him into playing. Ryan asks, "Have you ever played before?" He motions to the football in hand, I nod my head, grinning, "Yeah, I used to play with my brother and his dorky friends all the time before-" I stop short, not wanting to reveal my parent's death to a perfect stranger I met today. He laughs, "Good, I will use you to help take down the other team." Ryan and I huddle together with the other men to make a plan to tag-team the other players to take them out gradually using my speed and Ryan's strength. At the end of the game, sweat is dripping off of me, and I'm laughing so hard from Ryan's jokes my stomach hurts. Tobias calls another order and the men form perfect lines, dismissing them. Ryan speaks of his plans for this evening to me. I begin to walk up the hill and stand, waiting to walk home with Tobias, but Ryan stands next to me, asking, "Do you want me to walk you home?" I laugh, "No thanks, I'm going to stand here and take in the view for a moment, cool off from flag football. I'm dying of heat." Ryan continues to talk. I zone out while he pesters me with question after question attempting to unravel the mystery of my life. My mind rapidly bouncing between what happened with Tobias and me in the tunnel, the way his hands and lips felt on my body, and questioning if he only did that because he was jealous, or if he did it because he wanted to? Have I ever seen Tobias jealous? I don't think I have. Ryan nudges my shoulder with his own, I jump from the contact. Is he really this nice, or is there an ulterior motive for him being this nosy? Each question he asks, I give him a vague reply, I mention nothing of how I know Tobias outside of this place when he asks again, nor do I mention to him I'm married to Tobias Eaton. Suddenly, Ryan asks, "Tell me what your husband does in the shop? Is he a pilot, on the flight team, or a mechanic?" Shrugging my shoulders, I reply, "Sorry, Ryan, that is top secret. I can't discuss such a thing with you."

He grins, "Wait a minute, is he in intelligence? He is if you said his job is top secret. Are you married to Colonel O'Connell?" I laugh, having never heard the last name before. Mentally, I store the name away to ask Tobias about this Colonel O'Connell later. I don't answer Ryan, biting my tongue wishing I could tell Ryan I was married to Tobias. Maybe it would have kept several of the guys from looking at me like a piece of meat, theirs for the taking. Is that why Tobias commented about my husband earlier to Ryan? Did he see the looks I was getting when I was standing in line when all eyes were on me before I did? Ryan's voice breaks my thoughts, asking another guy walking by, "Why do you think Eaton was late today when he is never late?" The other guy rubs his head, laughing, "Who knows, Anderson. It's probably not a what, but a who. All I know is Eaton certainly seemed happier than he did before lunch, his voice wasn't as angry as usual. Stop gossiping like a schoolgirl, if Eaton catches you gossiping again, he will kill you." The guy's eyes move to me, continuing, "See you next week Tris, hopefully, Eaton didn't scare you off." The guy smiles before walking off in the opposite direction of Ryan and me. Ryan grins, "What do you think Tris?" I shrug my shoulders, my cheeks heat, my mind drifting to what Tobias and I were doing in the darkened tunnel after lunch, and what our make-out session lead to, I reply whispering, "Maybe he had a good lunch."

Ryan smirks, "Why are you so red? Are you imagining Eaton with his clothing off, or do you not have to imagine because you have seen it in real life? Do you know why he was happy after lunch?" Ryan's eyes bore into mine, accusing, "You were both late. Were you both together?" I don't answer him, my eyes staring off into the distance. He teases, "Trissy, does the cat got your tongue, or in this case is it, does Eaton have your tongue?" My cheeks heat at his words, he continues, "Your cheeks are as red as the tomato you ate at lunch. Do you care to share why."

Crossing my arms, I reply, "Nope," doing my best Four impression, my eyes connecting with Tobias's in the distance. He smirks quickly at me, but the smile quickly disappears. Ryan catches the look Tobias and I share, he asks again, "Did something happen between the two of you? You do realize you both could get into trouble for messing around. He is an officer, you are an enlisted member. There isn't supposed to be fraternization between the two of you." My heart begins to pound loudly in my ear. Ryan might be a problem for Tobias and me. He is too observant. I answer, "I did go to the bathroom as I said I was. Eaton found me walking when I had gotten lost in one of the corridors and not out on the field in time. He yelled at me, threatened to give me a letter of reprimand if I didn't get out to the field that very instant." Ryan crosses his arms, replying, "That seems a little harsh." Shrugging my shoulders, I respond, "Whatever, Eaton is a hard ass. I'll just have to attempt to talk him out of it. I don't want any stains on my record." Letting him believe I'm an enlisted member of the Air Force. Ryan laughs, "Good luck with that, normally once a letter of reprimand is threatened, you get one." I giggle, "No, I don't think so, not, in this case, considering I'm only here temporarily," bumping my shoulder against his playfully as I once did with Sam when we were in high school; continuing telling my story, "I think, he was attempting to be nice when he found me in the corridor, he wanted to give me some pointers on how to survive PT with him, but then I sort of mouthed off to him. After his lecture and his threat with the letter, we seem to have come to an understanding." A lecture with his tongue and body.

Ryan raises an eyebrow, grinning like a Chesire cat, "Please, that LOR story might work on the rest of the guys who press the issue, but Four is never late to group PT, timed PT, or late in general. Today, he was late, very late as were you, and he didn't say a damn word to you in front of the other men. I'm calling special treatment. My question is why, Tris?" My breathing accelerates, commanding, "Nothing happened! I already told you, I got into trouble in the corridor." He smirks, "Deny it all you want, but you have a hickey on your neck which wasn't there this morning." I defend, slapping a hand over my check where Ryan's eyes are staring, "I bruise easily, I must have gotten it while playing flag football!" Tobias, I'm going to kill you! He nods his head, "Whatever you want to believe, but I didn't see Colonel O'Connell anywhere near the building at lunch today. My guess, you are lying about him being your husband. You can have your secrets, but I want to know why you are trying so hard to keep them," My face drops while Ryan begins to laugh, "It proves you were with Eaton." I snap, "It doesn't prove anything, Ryan! It proves I bruise easily, and it proves you need to not accuse people you met today of having a hickey on their neck when you have no proof! It proves you are too young and immature, and that you need to grow up if you want to survive in the military!" He holds up his hands, laughing, "Sorry, did I offend you? if you want to say you received your neck bruise from flag football even though no one tackled you then okay." Walking away from him, I yell, "Leave me alone, Ryan! Go find someone else to pester!" Remorse fills his eyes, he says, picking at an invisible string on his shirt, "Sorry, if I came across as pushy, it's only I find you interesting, and I have never met a girl as interesting as you before. I don't really want you to reveal all your secrets to me." I mutter, rolling my eyes, "I'm not going to reveal anything to you! I'm glad I brought some amusement into your life for the day, but next week you are going to have to find someone new." A group of men walks by who were in PT today, Ryan smirks, beginning to sing loudly, drawing their eyes, "Eaton and Tris sitting in a tree K.I.S.S.I.N.G," lightly I shove him away, replying, "Are you still in high school, or better yet middle school?" He grins, "When you decide, let me know, but something needs to keep me busy on this boring base. It might as well be you and the gossip you can provide." A giggle escapes my lips, "You sound like my friend, Christina. She loves gossip, but your gossip isn't going to be about me or come from me." My eyes spot Tobias beginning to walk towards me and Ryan. Tobias and Ryan speak for a few minutes, I tune out the conversation, standing quietly behind him, not saying a word. When his finger lightly touches one of my little fingers with the back of his hand, a smile falls onto my lips at the contact, our bodies secretly hiding our interlaced fingers. At the moment, our love feels secretive and protected from prying eyes. When Ryan walks away, Tobias turns glancing, asking, "Miss Prior, what are you doing?" Letting go of his hand, I reply, playfully batting my eyelashes at him, "Nothing sir, can I be dismissed home now?" He grins, "I already dismissed the group. I thought we were headed home together, but I need to make a stop to talk to a few guys first." I smirk, "Okay." Tobias walks away, I follow several feet behind while he disappears over the hill, my heart sinks at his disappearance. I thought we were walking home together.

Continuing to walk, my eyes land on Tobias waiting at our street, a smile tugs at his lips when his eyes land on me. I run to him, he scoops me into his arms, whispering, "That was a miserable experience today. I'm sorry if I was too harsh on you." I giggle, "You were fine," intertwining my fingers with his. He sighs, "I have wanted to hold your hand in public all day." I giggle when his lips meet the back of my hand, continuing, "Along with this," quickly he spins me out and into him, my fingers landing on his firm chest, attempting to balance, his lips touch my cheek. I giggle uncomfortably feeling my cheeks heat continuing to walk the rest of the way home with him, my mind still having a hard time grasping the concept he loves me, he married me, and he chose me when he could have anyone else in the world. It all seems too good to be true.

Thoughts and opinions on this chapter. I can't wait to read them! What are your thoughts on Ryan, now that you read more about him? Who do you think this Colonel O'Connell is, that Ryan believed Tris is married to? How do you think Tris and Tobias's day went overall at group PT? The next chapter will be uploaded on the weekend of August 15.
