"Did you just say that is Heracles! The great Greek hero!" Olga yelled as she pointed her arm towards the monster that could kill all of them with ease.
"Do you know any other Heracles!?"
"▂▂▃▃▅▅—!" Heracles roared as he launched himself towards them, only a couple seconds until he would come and attack them. Which was quite a feat from his distance of about a couple kilometers.
"Everyone! Dodge his attack!" Shido made sure to send a mental command as he felt his magic circuits flaring up in activation which made him wince in pain, but he ignored it in favor of casting [Emergency Evasion] to his newly summoned servant.
Trying not to waste any time, Shido grabbed Olga and tried to run as far from Heracles' path as possible, Mash raising her shield to defend the two. Though they didn't succeed as in less than a couple seconds when they tried to run, Heracles was already upon them, swinging his huge makeshift axe-sword like weapon towards them.
Mash prepared to block his attack, yet instead of his attack hitting her, he grabbed her shield and threw Mash to the side, making her roll around and Shido could hear her pained grunts as she was thrown like a ragdoll.
Seeing the situation, all he could do was stand infront of Olga and glare at Heracles with determination to protect her, even if it's till his very last breath.
As a human being, Shido wasn't someone who had no fear of death. In fact, ever since seeing the monster called Heracles, he was filled with fear towards that raging Berserker. Yet, Shido was also the unique type of person to easily forget his own fear, forget his own survival and focus on protecting another if the situation came down to it. He would even forget that he would end up dying, only focusing on protecting the person.
He had shown that many times. When he had tried to get to Yoshino who was having a breakdown after losing Yoshinon. When he took on a blast from Camael to save Kurumi who revealed herself as [Nightmare]. When he had protected Miku from Tenka upon her first appearance in the world, despite the overwhelming pressure he felt that made him shiver in fear. When he had shielded Mukuro from the attacks of Artemisia while in the vast expanse of space. Throughout that and many more times, Shido showed his unusual mindset to easily forget about saving his own life when others' lives were in danger.
"Gandr!" A bullet of condensed mana fired at Heracles. One that would easily destroy a human body, bursting it apart. Despite that, he didn't even seem to be trying to dodge it at all.
As it hit his body, nothing happened. The attack hit his body and he was perfectly fine after taking that direct hit, completely undeterred from his path towards the two. His arm was already swung since Mash was there, and it would take less than a second for it to reach them and tear both their bodies in half.
"▂▂▃▃▅▅—!"
Shido knew Heracles will kill them. There is no way he could block his attack in any way. They are just bugs in comparison to his overwhelming strength. Even if he pushed Olga away, Heracles would just need to use his other hand and hit her, making her entire body go splat with barely any effort on his side.
Still..Still..Still..!
"—What!?"
It was only natural for Shido to yell out in shock. After all, from out of nowhere, a strange spiral shaped weapon appeared from the sky, flying towards Heracles unguarded back.
Heracles himself seemed to realise, as he turned towards it.
Seeing his attention shift away, Shido realized the opportunity it presented.
Grabbing Olga, he quickly ran as far as he could while making sure to keep an eye on Heracles, knowing that it would be careless to keep his back facing such a monster. Though it's not like he believed he could even stop him if he tried anyway.
Nonetheless, getting away from him was at least better than standing around to die.
Seeing the spiral coming towards him, Shido witnessed how the very space of the projectile is being twisted, distorted. That weapon wasn't a mere projectile. It was a spiral of death, for anything that dared to stand against it would perish.
"▂▂▃▃▅▅—!" With a roar, Heracles ran towards the spiral of death.
Shido couldn't make sense of Heracles' actions. While he knew he was a monster, he could also tell that the spiral of death wasn't something that Heracles could get hit by and come out unscathed.
"—Master! Run!" The newly summoned servant appeared infront of Shido, his arms stretched out as if to block an attack for him.
What does he mea—
"▂▂▃▃▅▅—!" Shido's thoughts came to a sketching halt, like someone suddenly hitting the brakes on a car due to the scene he is witnessing before his eyes.
Heracles jumped on the ground, twisted his body through the air, grabbed the spiral of death and using directional force from his spinning body, made the spiral of death head towards them.
It is destroying all the debris in its path. The same will happen the second it makes it to them. It'll tear through the body of his servant, who despite looking a bit nervous, stood with his back facing them and Shido could make out a grin being on his face. As if saying that even in the face of death, he won't back down. As if the prospect of death doesn't scare him in the slightest.
Shido grit his teeth together, controlled his fear from that impending spiral of death and with a sting from his right hand, used a Command Seal.
In the space infront of his servant, Mash appeared as if she was teleported. She saw what was coming, and raised her shield, planting it firmly into the ground as best as she could.
He moved forward, to stand beside Mash and poured all his strength in his arms to hold her shield.
Immediately, a powerful pressure hit against the shield.
"Senpai!"
He couldn't tell what was going on, pain assaulted him from all sides while everything was passing his eyes too fast to properly see anything.
"—Ggghhkkk!"
Pain erupted from his back. Similar to if a speeding car hit him, enough to the point he's sure he has some broken bones and he found it difficult to breathe.
"Shido!"
His sight is blurry, he feels like dust is in them. He tries to lift his arms to wipe them, yet only his right arm responds while his left just feels like it has a burning hot iron plate attached to it. Most likely the joint in his shoulder is dislocated.
Doing his best to ignore the pain, he wiped his eyes free of the dust to see Olga standing beside him, her hands on his body as he felt some of the broken bones forcefully repairing themselves and he finds it easier to breathe. It hurts a lot, yet he has to endure. He can't give in to the pain. Plus, at least the adrenaline in his body is numbing the pain.
After Olga seemed to do the most she could, she grabs his working right arm and stands up. Draping his arm over her so she supports his body.
Where is Mash? What happened with Heracles?
Looking ahead, he saw what could barely be considered a fight happening a short distance away.
Heracles launched attack after attack, Mash being forced into defending unless she wanted to die while the strange new servant used some strange blades, stabbing them at Heracles, trying to run away but got grabbed by Heracles and thrown into Mash's shield. His body flew off the shield, and fell to the ground where Mash moved to hit Heracles so as to create more space between them. Heracles, without a second to waste, prepared himself to take the opening presented by Mash's attack, and with one swing of his axe, he would slice her body in two.
Yet, before he could, he jumped away as some arrows flew through the air towards Heracles, and instead of continuing once they were off course, they redirected themselves and followed Heracles. Each one embedding itself into Heracles chest and exploding on contact, being enough to only just slightly make him halt in movement. Although, Mash needed to prop up her shield infront of the fallen new servant and did her best to protect the two of them from the large explosion caused by the arrows.
However, Shido himself couldn't take notice of all that was happening. As each movement of Heracles, the new servant and Mash was one that took place at a speed too fast for his eyes to see. All he could see at the moment was Mash protecting his newly summoned servant from a large explosion coming from Heracles.
—Even so, Shido understood the situation was not at all in their favor. With an intense pain flooding his body, his magic circuits flared to life and he cast two [Emergency Evasion] spells on his servants as the fallen one had stood back up. He could feel himself being assaulted by pain as if he was being burned by his own nerves from the constant use of magic circuits he had never used before in his life, and two spells being used simultaneously by his, at most average, magic circuits was putting too much pressure on his body.
"Get away!" Shido yelled out his order, and with his spell helping them, they retreated away, their speed increased enough to where Heracles couldn't catch them thanks to the spell. Though the main reason he didn't was due to the arrows having exploded the area under his feet in such a way that would force him to redirect the position of his body so that they could escape.
"▂▂▃▃▅▅—!" Heracles roared and with that resounding roar, he raised his weapon towards them. Mash raised her shield, the other servant stabbing his blades into the ground and using them as foot stops, he held the shield together with Mash.
And as Heracles took a hit from an arrow, barely affecting him, he threw his axe-sword weapon at them. It was propelled forward at a speed that was as equal, if not even moreso than the arrows fired at Heracles himself. Soaring through the air, it hit the shield.
Mash and the other servant were forced off the ground from the force of the impact between the thrown weapon and Mash's shield. The other servants weapons breaking when it tried to keep him in place.
The two of them were blown away, Mash, without her shield as it fell to the ground and she was slammed into some debris, seemingly knocking her out. While the other servant hit a particularly bad piece of debris that had a sharp edge, stabbing into his leg and cleanly going through his skin to show the bloody edge, trying to force himself free from it.
Yet, even if they were hurt and too far away, Heracles is not a kind or chivalrous enemy that would wait for them to recover. So, despite the constant arrows raining down on him, Heracles lunged forward.
Shido had no idea what was going on, as everything happened way to fast for him to see. All he knew right now, was that Mash nor the other servant was there to defend him and Olga. He could also see her shield left on the ground, and so with adrenaline coursing through him, he ran.
Due to how near it was, it took less than 3 seconds for him to grab the edge of Mash's shield so he could lift it up and grab the handle that was currently facing the ground. However, that was more than enough time for Heracles to descend upon Shido, fist raised to pummel his body and even the arrows were no longer being fired to stop him.
"—You have a lot of backbone, kid!" Upon hearing those words, Shido saw Heracles being launched back by an explosion coming from the ground itself.
Even so, Shido didn't let his guard down, and looked around, not trying to lift Mash's shield as he knew that he didn't possess the strength to lift such a huge weapon. He was keeping his hand held onto the edge, as a weapon he could swing if he used all his energy rather than use it as a shield to protect himself.
"I hope you don't mind some assistance." Shido now noticed the new person that spoke. He was an adult male with long blue hair, flowing robes of blue and white, with a black undershirt and gold details. He wears earrings and carries a large staff that looks like a hockey stick, though Shido highly doubted it was an actual hockey stick.
He was nearby Heracles, strange runic symbols being drawn by him and used to cause explosions near Heracles. Some hit directly on the monster called Heracles, only enough to stagger him. Others were used to destroy the ground he had under him, tripping him up yet he had somehow realized that and jumped away from his previous spot before it could happen.
Only able to understand that for some reason, the blue haired man was helping them and making sure Heracles doesn't get close, Shido felt a bit relieved. Still, he couldn't feel completely relieved nor safe until Heracles was long gone.
"I'll thank you after! Can you just help make sure this guy doesn't kill us!?" Yelling over the explosives, Shido saw the blue haired man grin.
"Well, I'll help you! But don't expect too much against this monster!" The unknown servant fired off more runic symbols at a pace that Shido bet would have overwhelmed a few of the ex-spirits he knew.
—Still. The enemy is not any of the spirits. It is the Great Greek Hero who has become stronger by giving up his sanity, Heracles.
"▂▂▃▃▅▅—!" As if his roar was the trigger, Heracles flew through the air. Jumping behind himself to a piece of rubble standing upright, kicked off of that and flew straight like a bullet.
It was not at a speed that Shido himself could see. All he could see was a blur speeding closer. Yet, he felt that it was off. The speeding blur did seem to be getting alarmingly closer, yet it wasn't aimed exactly at him.
He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, before a large explosion from one of the blue haired servants runes occurred. Enough to alter Heracles's course and made the Berserker force himself to stand.
Yet, the speed he was traveling at was enough to make his body move even if he was trying to stand. His body skidding forward, and Shido's eyes widened in alarm as he watched Heracles getting exceedingly closer towards Olga, who tried to run yet fell on her own feet in fear. Heracles raised his fist, ready to swing it and send Olga flying through the air, her body to hit and splatter against something, or hit the ground with her bodies bones twisting in unnatural directions.
Before Shido even had time to think, his feet were moving, adrenaline coursing through his entire body. Heracles inching closer each millisecond.
Shido ignored his still dislocated shoulder screeching out in pain, and his entire focus went to Olga. To her fearful face, her shaking legs, widened eyes and her tears escaping them, as if she already accepted she will die and is just giving into her fear.
Shido had no idea how close Heracles was anymore. All he knows is that he needs to save Olga. Nothing else mattered. Not his pain, not the horrible situation, not the sounds of yelling from his own throat, not even his own life. They were all in the back of his mind. Not even able to be comprehended nor understood properly at all.
He watched as she looked at him in complete surprise, her body being pushed away from danger. Seeing that, Shido gave a gentle, truly content smile as a familiar warm feeling came from within his body.
—Less than a second later, his feet left the ground as something slammed into him.
Watching it, the new servant of Shido's—Angra Mainyu sighed and stopped his attempts at escaping from the rubble that pierced his leg.
He did feel a bit disappointed that he couldn't even give an introduction before Heracles came at them, yet he also felt glad that he wouldn't have to fight.
He knew this situation was entirely removed from the norm, where his master summoned an Avenger Class servant and that other girl who didn't seem to fit into the typical class categories. There was also the matter of Cu being a Caster instead of a Lancer, something that the servant himself probably feels annoyed by. Especially because he now doesn't possess his Gae Bolg, the absolute one-hit kill that can only be blocked by a bullshit luck stat.
There was also the fact that he could tell the very ground, the entire area itself had even if small, a trace feeling that the grail was corroding it. Angra himself figured that was probably why he was summoned, as instead of his Master being used as the catalyst, it was the very location and ground that was afflicted with the curses of the corrupted Grail forming the catalyst. It was strange to be used as the catalyst, yet he figured there was also some sort of match of personality between him and his already dead Master that led to the final result of his summoning.
Nonetheless, Angra did not care about it. It may have been different and not at all like the situation he would expect, but he figured that was what his E rank luck got him. Though he did blame the annoying idealistic person that his body's host was for that luck stat.
Bored, Angra watched the battle between that mutt, the annoying bastard and Heracles.
Cu fired off some runes that exploded around Heracles, forcing him to jump into the air. Following that, Hrunting flew through the air towards Heracles. Upon seeing it, Heracles grabbed the pink haired servants shield that flew up in the explosion, and slammed it against Hrunting.
In the end, it resulted in an explosion that echoed in Angra's ears, yet he watched as Heracles was able to stand back onto the ground, unharmed as he kept a grip on the shield.
"Are you kidding me! This guy is way too lucky to have the shield just so happen to come into his hand!" Angra could only agree with the mutts yelling, and felt a bit sympathy that he would now have to deal with a Heracles in possession of a weapon.
Angra did question how come he felt sympathy of all things for someone else, but just sighed as he figured it must be due to having adopted some personality traits from his host. Possibly adding together with his own experience of facing that raging monster on repeat during that hellish four day loop.
Heracles then grabbed the shield he held, holding it like he previously held his axe-sword as he charged at Caster. It took less than a second for Heracles to make it to Cu, yet Angra noticed that there was a faint shining light in the distance. One he was familiar with.
Seeing that, Angra grinned as Cu jumped, propelling his body far away while simultaneously using runes to protect his body from any attacks that might be fired at him.
"That was way too close!" The mutt looked to be tired, most likely using more mana than he planned to and without a Master to support him, he was slowly running dry.
The light from far away was increasing in intensity, and Angra only had his grin widen even further.
"Oi! Mutt! He'll attack from the left next!" Angra yelled out to Cu, causing him to look shocked, yet follow his orders as in the next moment, Heracles did exactly as he said.
Angra himself possessed no future sight nor anything like that in any capacity. However, the enemy before him is one he's fought and died against so many times that he could predict his attacks, even more so now that he is lost in his own madness.
Realizing that he was out of reach, Heracles kicked his foot up and kicked off the ground under the mutt. Cu made numerous runes of protection at the same time that Heracles prepared to throw the shield in his hand in order to increase the range of his attack.
Angra only continued grinning. While it could've been due to seeing a bastard like that mutt soon die, that wasn't the actual source of it.
Since the start of the battle, Angra expected to fail. He didn't expect any sort of victory against Heracles of all people. It was an expected outcome to die against such a monster. Even if he seemed to no longer have any extra lives, something he knew due to it being in one of the possible futures that the 5th Holy Grail War could end in.
If Angra was right, then he could provide a single moment of hesitation from Heracles. It was a pretty big bet, and only going off knowledge that belonged to the memories a couple possible futures for Shirou Emiya.
"—Didn't you promise to protect Illya! Where is she now!? Did you let her die!?" Yelling those words as accusations, intended to pierce the emotions of his target, Angra saw as Heracles stopped all movement for a single moment.
—In a possible future. Heracles had been corrupted by the grail as he is now. In that single possibility, Heracles fought against the man named Shirou Emiya. In that clash that lasted no longer than 3 seconds, Shirou was able to ascertain that the Berserker was still fighting. Fighting against the grails corruption, doing his absolute best to fight for Illya's sake even when having been consumed by that mistake of a grail.
Angra had no clue if the same situation happened here, or if he was even summoned by Illya. But it was the one chance he saw for a victory.
Because even if he expected failure, knew it was coming, it didn't mean he liked it. Angra quite disliked the failure of dying immediately after his summoning with no accomplishments to speak of. He did feel it was a bit strange for him..but he supposes that the influence of a certain 'Hero of Justice' may not be as bad as he thought.
Continuing on, Heracles paused his movement for a second. Enough for the mutt to escape with a jump from his rune reinforced body, yet that wasn't Angra's true motive.
Flying through the air, his real objective had been completed. It distorted the space around it. Traveling faster than what any human could possibly hope of dodging. Maybe Heracles could've avoided it, yet it was fired at the exact moment his movement stopped.
That meant, when Heracles had tried to react, it was too late. The Broken Phantasm pierced through Heracles and an extremely large explosion occurred. The ground formed a crater, flames appearing all around it and a giant hole was burst through Heracles's entire chest.
"—Shido! Shido! Please be okay!" The yelling voice of that white haired chick woke Angra from his reprieve, and he looked over to see the white haired chick over the body of his Master.
His bones bent unnaturally, blood gushing forth from his abdomen along with a hole that was slowly being healed by flames. No doubt dying at the very—Wait, flames?
Watching with wide eyes, Angra saw flames licking the wounds on his Master's body, making skin and muscle form from nothing where his abdomen was cleanly pierced. There were even some on his broken bones, though those were primarily being healed by the white haired chick.
"Oi. Are you kidding me.." Angra let out a groan, still feeling his own pain from the pierced leg of his, yet he felt the need to let out some of his frustrations more.
After all, now he is no longer being sent back to the Throne of Heroes. He is stuck with this Master of his who just a couple minutes earlier, jumped infront of Heracles blade to protect someone else.
His face contorted into a grimace as he could only imagine what this second 'Hero of Justice'-like Master would force him to go through and deal with.
He already regrets that he didn't let Berserker finish them all off.
