Snowflake on the Sand
A deck of Six's
Prologue
"Move, move! Do not stop the progress of science!" Big Mt had never been so alive as multiple facilities all hummed with energy as the geniuses of the Old World prepared themselves to conquer yet another field.
The barrier between worlds.
Even the Evil Doctor Mobius (as he still insisted in being called) offered his aid using his vast army of robots to build the device faster. The land itself changed as the brains carved the land to get what they wanted, the artificial dust and sand became brick and stone. Copper and wires where brought to the area by the newly constructed rail system that only few knew about, the construction of it took a matter of days, all thanks to RobCo.
The company was once again back in control of the world and it was not wasting any time in going back into its old habits and with a little help from the Courier that had helped take Vegas for the mysterious Mr. House they were now the only ones doing bussines with the Big Empty (but they omitted the fact that House was still alive for Doctor Zero's mental health).
Helping oversee operations on the construction of the large portal a lone figure drank from her coup of coffee to her lips "This… tastes odd" was the first thing that came out of Winter's mouth as she took another sip form it to see if her mind was playing tricks on her.
"Nope, still tastes horrible" moving back inside the sink she poured the offensive liquid down the sink making the germophobic machine gasp "Mistress! Please a warning next time before you… dump those hideous things down my tubes!" Winter chuckled and gave the machine a small nod.
The specialist then let out a sigh as the lights turned off when she entered the other room "I am here"
"I know"
"… you're supposed to turn the lights on when someone is here"
The lights returned as the light switch giggled "Oh silly me I must have forgot, please forgive me"
Winter made a noise with her tongue but resumed what she was doing, she had better things to do than argue with a jealous house appliance. Her sword remained broken atop the workshop that Six had moved to their room on the Big MT, it was supposedly an easy fix but she just couldn't bring herself to do it. So instead she assembled the pieces like if it was a large puzzle, she had gotten most of it down but she was missing just some pieces that she could not have gotten a hold of.
Maybe they were on the destroyed sentry bot, or somewhere in little Yangtze but that mattered little. It was gone "Could some one explain to me why in the name of all that is smart, have the buildtrons stopped?! Get them back online!" Doctor Klein yelled over the speakers.
The elevator opened and in strolled Six with a big frown on his face. The Courier adjusted his eyepatch and reached for a sniper rifle he had near the bed and headed to the balcony "Well… damn" Six muttered as he lowered the weapon and turned to Winter, the specialist looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Is something wrong?"
Six gave her the sniper rifle and pointed at the "new facility" that the brains had repurposed for the new experiment, Winter grabbed the weapon and looked down the scope. The protectrons and builditrons seemed to be shut down in the middle of the facility while a large storm was formed in the middle.
Six's red eye looked at the storm with worry, he remembered one like that before. When winter first came to the wasteland "Think is someone from your home?"
Winter swallowed and placed the weapon back on his hands "Don't know, this is… sooner than I expected. What is going on? Did they start doing tests already?" Six shook his head.
"No, they just got done building what they called an anchor to this world. From what I got from their techno-babble is that they are building this with a failsafe, so that means that in case of critical failure you can always find yourself here… but what if someone else is using it as an anchor?"
Winter shuddered as the image of different types of aliens came to her head, but she had to steady her nerves. Maybe one of the scientist from Atlas managed to use the anchor to get here?
"I don't think that matters now, we still have the home field advantage. Come on grab your best gear we don't know what we are dealing with Six" Winter said as she quickly changed into her modified Ranger combat armor and Six put on his elite Riot gear, looking at the helmet he shook his head and activated the Atomic-valence tri-radii-oscillator that was on his head.
Winter flinched away from the blue lights, it was still kind of a shock for her that he had that on his brain… when he didn't feel like leaving his brain on the Sink that was. Six grabbed the riot shotgun, the anti-material rifle and just in case an assault rifle, Winter was content with her modified LAER and a plasma pistol.
Looking at her sword for a split second she made a mental note to get a melee weapon as soon as possible and ran to elevator. The duo ran across the Big MT as the storm grew wider and wider "Hi this is Dala, Teddy Bear if you are still around please deal with the storm. Dust is bad for our gel… that is all"
Six felt a vein pop in his forehead "Could use your help assholes" he muttered as they arrived at the edge of the storm, the tornado shot lightning out of it as many of the robots were absorbed into the ever faster winds, being torn into pieces as soon as they reached the center of it.
"Was it this bad when I got here?" Winter yelled as she covered her eyes from the sand, Six took a look at it and then covered his eye again "Kind of! Your portal was way up higher than this one! That's why you fell like a sack of potatos!"
Winter shot him a look "Thanks for the reminder!"
Suddenly the winds stopped, Winter felt as if she was pushed back as a giant hole in space and time appeared and she stared with wide eyes at what had changed her life forever "Holy… wow, its beautiful"
Six turned to look at her with a smile "Yeah doubt it will drop another cutie like you" Winter almost returned the smile when a scream made them draw their weapon. A figure fell into the cement floor, preparing his shotgun Six ran to were the body had fallen.
"Careful" Winter said as she prepared the LAER.
Six almost smiled at the nostalgia it gave him, walking up to someone who fell from a portal with a shotgun in hand. Granted this was a better shotgun than the one he had stolen from the Powder Gangers back all those days in Goodsprings. "Allright, no sudden moves and you live sounds like a fair deal don't you say"
Six was surprised when an assault carbine was shoved into his face, a blonde girl smirked up at him and tilted her hat with her free hand "Nope, drop the nice looking shotgun and you get to live, don't gamble with destiny pretty boy"
There was a pause as the two continued their standoff Winter waiting patiently with her finger on the trigger, she had a clear shot at the girls head. If she even as flinched in a way she didn't like she would fry her brains "Nice set of armor my guy, were did you get it"
Six studied the outfit the woman was wearing and realization slowly began to sink in "I got it from hell… our hell, Ulysses won't be missing that I assume" Six said as he gestured at the familiar clothing, the man that was once from the bull had an outfit that was not so easily replicated, there was only way she had that on. The blonde narrowed her eyes at him and then at her surroundings "The big empty" Six put his weapon away, the blonde cautiously did so too and reached into her pocket.
The Platinum Chip was raised into the air as she grinned, her blue eyes filled with excitement. Six chuckled and reached into his own pocket and showed his own version of the platinum chip "Hello Courier Six, nice to meet you I am Courier Six"
Winter lowered her weapon and stared for a second.
"Two of them… oh fuck"
The woman-six laughed and jumped to hug the taller version of herself "Oh this exciting! My name is Victoria nice to meet you other me… how the fuck did I get here"
Six shrugged and turned to look at Winter "I think it would be best if she explained it… I am brainless at the moment you see" Victoria tilted her head to the side as she looked at Winter and then back at Six.
"Who is she? I don't remember her from my… our travels. Is she from New Vegas?" Winter's Six simply shook his head "That's why I think it would be best if she explained it, she is not from our world"
Victoria made a face of confusion making Winter step in "We were in the middle of trying to open a portal back to my home, we just finished creating and anchor to this world when you appeared I can only guess that you were experimenting with teleportation yourself"
Victoria made a small nod "I was I wanted to go to… never mind not important right now, I guess I am still a little shocked" she turned to Six and smiled "You are me! Like different body but we are the same Courier Six right?"
Six hummed as he tried for a way to clarify if they were truly alike "Maybe, do you remember the Vault… our home?"
Victoria felt her smile drop a little "Yeah… in detail"
"I can't, memories from that time are foggy at best. Benny had better aim against me it seems, not that it helped him in the end" Six commented as he looked at the scars on Victoria's forehead, the bullets had an impact but they were more to the side than his. A simple matter of millimeters had made a great impact.
Victoria simply shrugged "If you are here then it means his blood is still splattered all over his room" Six chuckled "I killed him in the presidential suit… how the fuck did you get into his room?"
The blonde courier grinned and brought a finger to her red lips "Now that's my secret lover"
Six felt a small shiver go down his spine, she didn't mean that…
"Hey where is Golden Branch?" Victoria said as she pointed at Six, the courier raised an eyebrow as Winter walked next to him "My what?"
Victoria frowned a bit "The thing given to us by the president? Is the war not over?"
"Ah… so there is a big difference after all" Six prepared himself for a fight as Vicotria eyed him with ever growing worry "The war is over, but the NCR didn't win"
Victoria narrowed her eyes "You Legion?"
"Never… I could never be slaver" Six assured her as she visibly relaxed a ton, but she did keep her hand on her weapon "Then… you helped House, you helped that man take control over the entire region!"
Six nodded "I did"
Victoria slapped him, making Winter put her gun to her head "Enough"
"How could you? Are you blind?! He is a tyrant just like Caesar, the only difference is that he enslaves people with contracts" Victoria glared at Six's red eye but eh didn't relent.
The courier rubbed his cheek and smiled sadly "And what other choice did I have? NCR are no saints"
"But…"-"Bitter Springs, the Brotherhood. Every single poor little town of either independent people or tribals is crushed down under them. Their empire might be backed by the democracy but the New California Republic and the Legion both are cursed with the need to expand! I did what I though was best… for all of us, even the NCR"
Victoria stepped back "And you are sure that you did the right thing?" Six stood still for a moment as the words made him sigh "I don't know… I have to wait and see" There was silence as the other courier also remembered things that had happened to her "Yeah, me too. I guess we both have to wait, you can lower your weapon I won't hurt your boyfriend"
"Thank you, he is already falling apart as it is" Winter commented making Victoria laugh, the tension slowly leaving the air "Now that IS interesting! How did we of all people manage to woo someone as pretty as she?"
Winter snorted at the comment "I don't know, she did fall off the sky you know. I have an idea that she might be an angel" Six said as he wrapped an arm around her, Winter blushed and pushed him away. Both couriers laughed a bit at Winter's reaction making the cheeks of the specialist redden even more "Both of you be quiet, or I swear I will kick you both in the rear"
Victoria smirked "I got cushions sister, you can't hurt me" she slapped her behind to emphasize.
It was surprising to see that Six's other self was so… attractive, with an hourglass figure a killer smile and eyes that seemed to woo anything on the wasteland. Winter shook her head "No… I won't get distracted"
"You okay Winter?" Six commented as Winter simply pointed at the sky "Careful, something else is happening"
Another storm was forming, both Couriers pulled out their assault carbines while Winter simply stared. This time the storm lasted far less than the other and what dropped into the ground was… something else, a titan of a man armed with a sword larger than her torso stared down at them with an unrecognizable gaze.
Six gasped while Victoria simply glared "Legion fuck!"
"That's Maximus to you NCR scum" the titan of a man said as the scorched sierra power armor shattered the ground beneath him, the man barely flinched when Victoria fired the first shot. It removed his helmet letting the long red hair fall down to the side of his head.
Six was about tot shoot when he noticed a familiar set of scars "Holy shit… another courier" Reaching quickly into his pocket he flashed the platinum chip stopping the man from attacking "This… is not what I expected" Maximus muttered as he took a small step back.
A/N: Hi thank you for reading! This is small continuation of Snowflake on the sand, it takes place just before Sandstorm over Remnant. Three couriers have arrived and one more is yet to join them, see you soon!
