Episode 171: The Joy of Water-type Pokémon
A couple of days since saving Entei from a band of Pokémon Hunters, Sora, Kairi, Ash, Leaf, Tracey, Sakura, Pikachu, Angel, Togepi, and the Pichu continued right on and then Sora is approached by a girl with blonde hair. She wore a short light blue shirt with a dew drop on the front. She wore dark blue jeans that reached her shins. She wore white shoes.
"Excuse me, but are you a Pokémon Trainer?" The girl asked.
"Yeah," Sora said. "Just why?"
"I would like to challenge you into a Pokémon battle, please?" The girl asked.
"Sure thing," Sora said.
"Great! All of my Pokémon are Water-type Pokémon, so prepare to be washed out. Let's make it a three-on-three battle," the girl said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Staryu!" Her Pokéball opened and a Staryu came right out. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Go right in, Dunsparce!" Sora called out. Dunsparce came right out to battle.
"A Dunsparce? An interesting choice. But I can beat it. Staryu! Start things up with Gyro Ball!" The girl ordered. Staryu spins around and started to come at Dunsparce with a silver ring spinning around the Star Shape Pokémon.
"Use Dig to dodge!" Sora ordered. Dunsparce dug into the earth to avoid Staryu's attack.
"Stay sharp, Staryu. Dunsparce will come out at any moment," the girl said. Staryu was on alert. The Land Snake Pokémon came out and tackled into Staryu.
"Great! Use Hyper Drill!" Sora ordered. Dunsparce's tail spins and went right for Staryu and lands a hit. Staryu has taken some heavy damage and was taken down. Dunsparce started to evolve, much to Sora's surprise. Dunsparce has become a Dudunsparce, but it has a third segment when the Dudunsparce he battled before had only two. Sora took out his Pokédex and scanned it.
Dudunsparce, Three-Segment Form, the Land Snake Pokémon
The evolved form of Dunsparce
Type: Normal
The gentle Dudunsparce will put Pokémon that wander into its nest onto its back and carry them to the entrance.
"I figured you were ready to evolve at some point, but a third segment is a new one on me," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Dudunsparce!" The newly evolved Dudunsparce said. Sora took out his Pokéball and called Dudunsparce back in.
"Get some rest. You battled enough," Sora said.
"You were awesome, Staryu. Take a good long rest," the girl said, calling Staryu back. She looked right at her opponent. "That wasn't bad. Here's my next one." She took out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Krabby!" Her Pokéball opened and a Krabby, larger than normal came right out and clamped its pincers. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"You're up, Bayleef!" Sora called out. His Pokéball opened and Bayleef came right out. "Bayleef! Use Body Slam!" Bayleef came right at Krabby.
"Dodge and use Crabhammer!" The girl ordered. Krabby swings its pincer while it's surrounded with water and lands a hit onto Bayleef before she could land a hit. "Use Ice Beam!" Krabby fires Ice Beam right at Bayleef, and deals heavy damage, due to her weakness to ice. "Use Razor Shell!"
"Razor Leaf!" Sora ordered. Bayleef fired Razor Leaf and struck Krabby hard. "Use Vine Whip!" Bayleef extends her vines and struck Krabby hard. "Use Headbutt!" Bayleef lands a Headbutt onto Krabby. ."Great job, Bayleef."
"Not bad, but it's not over yet! Use Metal Claw!" The girl ordered. Krabby came at Bayleef and slashed at her. "Use Ice Beam!" Krabby fired Ice Beam and struck Bayleef hard. It results in a knockout. Sora calls Bayleef back.
"Good job, Bayleef. You've earned a good rest," Sora said. The girl calls Krabby back inside.
"Good job as always, Krabby," the girl said. She took out her final Pokéball and held it. "And here's my third Pokémon! Go! Gyarados!" Her Pokéball opened and a female Gyarados came out. Sora looked at Pikachu.
"You're up, Pikachu," Sora said.
"Pika," Pikachu nodded. He stepped in.
"Gyarados! Use Ice Fang!" The girl ordered. Gyarados came at the Mouse Pokémon with her fangs were emitting ice.
"Dodge it, Pikachu!" Sora called out. Pikachu jumps out to dodge out of the way of Gyarados's attack. "Use Thunderbolt!" Pikachu fired Thunderbolt right at Gyarados.
"Use Thunderbolt!" The girl ordered. Gyarados fired a Thunderbolt and used it to block Pikachu's Thunderbolt. The Mouse and Atrocious Pokémon held their attacks, so Pikachu pushed Gyarados's Thunderbolt back and hits her, dealing her some heavy damage.
"Good job, Pikachu!" Sora said.
"Don't give in, Gyarados! Use Hydro Pump!" The girl ordered. Gyarados fired right at Hydro Pump right at Pikachu.
"Dodge and use Electro Ball!" Sora ordered. Pikachu forms a ball of electricity and hurls it at Gyarados. Gyarados is hit by the ball of electricity, dealing some damage.
"Thunderbolt!" The girl ordered. Gyarados fired Thunderbolt and lands some damage on him.
"Use Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Pikachu dashed at Gyarados and grabbed her face. "Thunderbolt!" Pikachu gave Gyarados a powerful shock. Gyarados fell right to the ground, beaten. "Alright!"
"Gyarados!" The girl said. She took out her Pokéball. "Here, Gyarados. Take a good rest." She calls Gyarados back inside. She looked at Sora and smiled. "That was a good battle. You're a tough Trainer."
"You too," Sora said, taking out his hand. The girl shook Sora's hand.
"Anyway, my name's Kaley," the girl introduced herself.
"I'm Sora, and you already met Pikachu," Sora introduced.
"I'm Kairi, and this is Angel, and this is Togepi," Kairi introduced.
"I'm Ash."
"My name's Leaf."
"I'm Tracey."
"And I'm Sakura," Sakura finished.
"Nice to meet you. Say, are you heading to Lake Lucid by any chance?" Kaley asked.
"Lake Lucid?" Sora asked. Tracey took out the guidebook and looked into it.
"Here it is. Lake Lucid. And it's just close to us," Tracey said.
"What's so special about Lake Lucid?" Sora asked.
"Lake Lucid was a highly polluted lake many years ago. It was home to Grimer and Muk that is until the lake was cleaned. There's a Pokémon Center right there," Tracey said.
"We should check it out," Sakura suggested.
"Great idea," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Okay, we can do that," Sora said. "Pikachu, Bayleef, and Dudunsparce should be checked up anyway."
"Pikachu," Pikachu agreed.
"You don't mind if I join you? I'm heading there, too," Kaley said.
"Sure, Kaley," Sora answered. "We're heading that way anyway."
With that said, Kaley joined the group. Sora shared to Kaley about Ash and Leaf being childhood friends. They arrived to Lake Lucid. It's a crystal clear lake.
"So, this is Lake Lucid. It's even prettier than I thought," Leaf said.
"It sure is. Any Water-type Pokémon Trainer would know about it. Every Water-type Pokémon Trainer knows about the famous Pokémon Center there," Kaley said.
"Pika, Pika!" Pikachu said. Sora and his friends looked at the water and saw someone wearing a scuba suit, carrying a Goldeen wrapped in bandages. The hands of the suit are tongs.
"What's that?" Ash asked.
"I'm not sure. But I think we should wait and see who it is," Tracey said.
"Right," Sora said.
"Okay, bring in the water stretcher," the diver said with Nurse Joy's voice. A Chansey and a Blissey came in with a fish tank. The diver puts the Goldfish Pokémon in the fish tank. "Our patient's recovering nicely, but it's time to change the bandages again. Please take Goldeen to the treatment room." The Chansey and Blissey complied with the diver. "Be gentle." The diver comes out of the suit it is Nurse Joy after all. She sighed. "I'm glad that's over with."
The group walked up to the young nurse.
"Excuse me, but are you the Nurse Joy who's in charge of the Lake Lucid Pokémon Center?" Kaley asked.
"I am. And who might be you?" Nurse Joy asked. Kaley's eyes lit up with stars.
"It's her! In person! My big sister is gonna be so very jealous when I tell her that I met you!" Kaley exclaimed. Sora, Kairi, Ash, Leaf, Tracey, Sakura, Pikachu, Angel, Togepi, and the Pichu were very confused.
"Anyone have any idea what she's talking about?" Sora whispered to his friends. Kairi, Ash, Leaf, Tracey, and Sakura just shrugged their shoulders. Nurse Joy looked over to Pikachu.
"Hello, how are you, Pikachu?" Nurse Joy asked.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"You look a little tired. Would all like to come for a treatment in my Pokémon Center?" Nurse Joy offered.
"Yeah. Pikachu isn't the only one who needs treatment. My Bayleef and Dudunsparce needs a check up, too," Sora said.
"Of course," Nurse Joy said.
"But before we get to that, might I ask why Lake Lucid is so special?" Sora asked.
"Well, I have the copy of the book Nurse Joy wrote years ago. It's called 'The Spring Without Pokemon'," Tracey said.
"The Spring Without Pokémon?" Sora asked.
"I never heard of that book," Kairi said.
"Here," Tracey said, taking out a copy of a book with an old photo of Nurse Joy. "I have the book right here."
"I didn't write that book. It was my grandmother who did. It was over 50 years ago. Back in those days, the lake in this whole area was polluted from the wastes from nearby factories and nearby towns. It was so bad, a even Grimer and Muk wouldn't thrive in it. But my grandmother still loved the lake, so she decided to do something about it. She dedicated her life in studying the effects of pollution on Pokémon. And she told the world in 'The Spring Without Pokémon'."
"I know it's not the same, but you think you can autograph it anyway?" Tracey asked.
"I could sign my name, but it wouldn't be authentic if it's not my grandmother," Nurse Joy said.
"But you gotta admit, it looks pretty clean. Clean like the kind you get in a water bottle," Sora said.
"I agree. How did it get so clean?" Leaf asked.
"My mother was inspired by my grandmother's work, so she decided to carry it further. After a lot of work, she managed to get the factory and towns to stop polluting the lake. Then she was in charge of draining the toxic water, cleaning the lake bed, and then refilling it. The Grimer and Muk returned first, but my mother kept working. Soon, the lake became crystal clear, and Water-type Pokémon came here to live here again. So many, she decided to build the Lake Lucid Pokémon Center to take care of them. And now I'm here to carry on the family tradition," Nurse Joy said. A ringing sound is heard.
"What's that?" Ash asked. A Tentacool and a Dewgong poked their heads out of the water.
"Look, a Tentacool and a Dewgong," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
A male Gyarados came out of the water as well.
"And a Gyarados," Sakura said.
"We specialize with Water-type Pokémon and they love to come here for personalized treatments just because the lake is so clean," Nurse Joy said.
Just then, a Seel, a Magikarp, a Starmie, and a Seaking came splashing out.
"These Pokémon all look great, Nurse Joy. Whatever you're doing for them seems to be working," Kaley said.
"Toge, Toge," Togepi chirped. Kairi giggled.
"I think Togepi agrees with you," Kairi said.
"The lake's a place where the Water-type Pokémon can exercise and build up their strength physically and emotionally," Nurse Joy said.
Just then, two Seadra jump out of the water and fired Water Gun at each other.
"Those Seadra are fighting each other," Ash said.
Two Dewgong tackled into each other.
"Those Dewgong are going at it, too," Sakura said.
"They're not really fighting each other. They're just trying to get back into shape by practicing," Nurse Joy said.
"I get it. They're just sparring with each other," Sora said.
"We all worked really hard to make the Lake Lucid Pokémon Center a success. It's to honor my mom and grandmother," Nurse Joy said.
Sora knew she meant by honoring family. He would honor his ancestors to the best of abilities.
"Have you written anything yourself?" Leaf asked.
"No. But I'm thinking of writing one for myself. I'm going to call it 'An Autumn Harvest of Pokémon'. I'm hoping to follow in my grandmother's and mother's footsteps," Nurse Joy said.
"I'm already looking forward to reading it," Kaley beamed.
In the lake, Team Rocket is riding in a rubber Tentacruel submarine. James is looking through the periscope.
"I see the twerps and Nurse Joy. They're definitely here," James said.
"Excellent! Pikachu is up for grabs now!" Jessie said. Wobbuffet popped out again.
"Wobbuffet!" Wobbuffet said.
"It's already crowded in here!" Jessie said.
Just then, a Tentacruel grabbed them by their legs and pulled them down.
"Tentacruel," Tentacruel said.
"What's going on?" Jessie asked.
"A Tentacruel just grabbed us," James said.
"Tentacruel. Tentacruel," Tentacruel said.
"What's Tentacruel saying, Meowth?" James asked.
"Hey, how about a practice match to get in shape?" Meowth translated.
"Practice battle?!" Team Rocket exclaimed. The Jellyfish Pokémon begins by unleashing a sound wave on them, making them dizzy.
"That Tentacruel is using Supersonic," Meowth said.
"Wobbu, Wobbu," Wobbuffet said, really dizzy.
Back on shore, Chansey and Blissey gets the scuba suit.
"Why don't you all come with me and I can show you around the Pokémon Center," Nurse Joy offered.
"Oh, we'd love to!" Kaley said.
"We're all in!" Sora said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
"Eevee!" Angel said.
"Toge, Toge!" Togepi chirped.
"Pichu!" The Shiny Pichu said.
"Pichu," the Spiky-eared Pichu said.
As they followed Nurse Joy and the Egg Pokémon inside the Pokémon Center, Team Rocket's submarine submerged from the water all banged up. Inside, Team Rocket were still dizzy due to the real Tentacruel's Supersonic.
"That was some practice battle," Jessie said.
"Just imagine if that was a for-real battle," James said.
"We'd be real hurt," Meowth said.
"Wobbuffet, Wobbu," Wobbuffet said.
Inside the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy does a checkup on Pikachu, Bayleef, and Dudunsparce. They were all healed of their past injuries.
"There. Your Pikachu, Bayleef, and Dudunsparce are all better," Nurse Joy said.
"Great. Thanks a lot," Sora said. Nurse Joy smiled.
"You're welcome," Nurse Joy said.
"Nurse Joy, now that Sora's Pokémon are healed, it'd be an honor for us if you could just give them a quick check up," Kaley said.
"Of course. I'd be very happy to," Kaley said.
"Really? I never thought I'd get the chance to have them examined by a real celebrity," Kaley said, taking out her Pokéballs. "Okay, here they are. These are all of my Water-type Pokemon." Nurse Joy started to get worried.
"Uh, wait a minute. Did you say they're Water-type Pokemon?" Nurse Joy asked, nervous.
"That's right. All I have are Water-type Pokemon. This one's a Staryu. Here, I'll show you," Kaley said. Nurse Joy backs up against the wall in a panic.
"Keep it away! Whatever you do, don't let those Water Pokemon out of those Pokéballs! Don't let them near me, don't let them touch me, and whatever you do, please keep them away from me!" Nurse Joy exclaimed. This surprised the group greatly.
"Excuse me?" Kaley deadpanned.
"What's wrong, Nurse Joy?" Kairi asked.
"You're acting like you're scared," Leaf said.
"Yeah, what's wrong?" Sora asked.
"I'm sorry, maybe I should've mentioned this before, but I...I hate those Pokémon!" Nurse Joy admitted.
"What?" Everyone all asked, dumbfounded.
"Pika?" Pikachu asked.
"Vee?" Angel asked.
"Togepi!" Togepi chirped.
"Pichu?" The Pichu asked.
Back in the lake, the Pokémon were keeping their distance from the Tentacruel submarine, knowing how badly it turned out.
"I guess we were so humiliated by Tentacruel, the other Pokémon are steering clear of us," James said.
"Well, at least we found that there's someting good about being losers," Meowth said.
"Say, maybe we should steal a few of the rare Water-type Pokémon as an extra bonus," Jessie said.
"Then maybe the boss will give us a bonus," James said.
"This place must be swimming in sensational Pokémon," Jessie said. Meowth spots an underwater pipe.
"Hey, look at that big hole up ahead! It must be the underwater entrance to that Pokemon Center," Meowth said.
"In we go on tippy-toes," Jessie and James sang.
"WOBBUFFET!" Wobbuffet said, covering his non-existent ears.
"Not now!" Jessie hissed.
Back inside the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy is still backed up.
"Please keep those things away from me. I absolutely can't stand the sight of those Pokémon!" Nurse Joy said.
"I'm confused. Just a little while ago, you did a checkup on Pikachu, Bayleef, and Dudunsparce, and you didn't have a problem," Sora said.
"I can handle Electric, Poison, Bug, and even Ghost-type Pokémon. Any kind of Pokémon except those awful, horrible, terrible Water-type Pokémon! I wouldn't even touch a water Pokémon..." Nurse Joy said. Her Chansey and Blissey came in with her diving suit. "Unless I was wearing this special protective suit."
"This can't be. The third generation Nurse Joy of Lake Lucid doesn't like Water-type Pokémon?" Kaley asked, feeling hurt.
"I don't dislike them! I hate them!" Nurse Joy said. Kaley felt a bigger stab in her heart.
"For as long as I can remember, I dreamed about meeting Nurse Joy from Lake Lucid, then I finally do, and it's a nightmare," Kaley said.
"I really wish you wouldn't feel that way, Kaley. I'm very happy to treat every kind of Water Pokémon that comes to the Pokémon Center, just as long as I don't have to touch them," Nurse Joy said as she gets into the suit. "Okay, let's have a look."
"I'll take them to another Pokémon Center," Kaley said, refusing her help.
"Don't be ridiculous. We provide the best water Pokémon care anywhere. Doesn't yours deserve the best?" Nurse Joy asked.
"But you said you don't like Water-type Pokémon," Kaley said.
"I hope you're not assuming that my personal preferences effect my job performance, because I can assure you that they don't. I treat all patients equally. Now let's go," Nurse Joy said.
"I'll carry them myself," Kaley said.
"Thanks, Kaley, I was hoping you'd say that. It's a little tough to handle those things with these things," Nurse Joy said.
"Something tells me that something bad had to happen for her to be afraid of Water-type Pokémon," Sora said in his thoughts.
"You did a great job with those bandages, Blissley, Chansey. Excellent as always. Thanks to my three assistants, I can treat Water-type Pokemon without ever having to lay a hand on them," Nurse Joy said.
"How fortunate you are," Kaley said in a tone.
"You sure have a lot of water tanks here, Nurse Joy," Tracey said.
"Water-type Pokemon can get many different kinds of injuries and illnesses, so over the years, we've developed a number of different kinds of healing water baths to treat them with," Nurse Joy said.
"Wow. No wonder they look so healthy," Tracey said.
A Gyarados is among the tank with a neck brace.
"A Gyarados," Sakura said, shivering with fear.
"Everybody has a certain Pokémon they like, and a certain Pokemon they don't like," Nurse Joy said.
"That's true," Kairi said. She never seemed to dislike any Pokémon at all.
"And when it comes to Gyarados, no way, José!" Nurse Joy said.
"I guess this wouldn't be a good time to mention I have a Feraligatr with me," Sora said in his thoughts.
"Gyarados have such large, heavy heads, that it's quite common for them to have neck and back problems," Nurse Joy said.
"I get it. So you have them exercise to build up muscles to support those big heads," Ash said.
"That's right. I've studied all kinds of Water-type Pokemon, and I've created special treatments, special diets, even special exercises that help each one overcome their illnesses and injuries. I understand water Pokemon, and I'm going to write a book so that others can understand them, too," Nurse Joy said. Kaley thought it was hypocritical of her to write such a book.
"Well, I wish you luck, but I think it's a big waste of time," Kaley said. Nurse Joy just looked at her, shocked.
"Why? What do you mean?" Nurse Joy asked. Tears began to form from Kaley's eyes.
"How can a person understand Water-type Pokémon if she hates them so much that she won't even touch one?" Kaley asked, crying.
"I never allow my feelings to interfere with my work. I'm a Pokémon nurse, I don't have to cuddle my patients to learn what I have to about them," Nurse Joy said.
"But if you never touch them, how can you ever know what they're really feeling? If you hate water Pokémon so much, fine. But why do you keep on working with them then? You should learn to like Water-type Pokémon or do something else!" Kaley said.
"That's kinda harsh, don't you think?" Leaf asked.
"I agree. How could you say such a thing?" Kairi asked.
"You have to understand that I've admired her since I was a kid. I'm a water Pokémon trainer, and I dreamed that one day I'd get to meet the famous Lake Lucid Nurse Joy. And if I was really lucky, I might get to visit her Pokémon Center and have her examine my Pokémon for me. And now, at last, I'm finally here and she won't even come near my Pokémon," Kaley cried. Nurse Joy felt sorry for her. She felt guilty for shattering the image she had for her.
"I'm very sorry to disappoint you, Kaley. And, believe me, I wish I felt differently. I didn't start out hating Water-type Pokemon. In fact, when I was a little girl, I loved them. But then, one day on the lake, everything changed," Nurse Joy said.
"What happened?" Sora asked.
"You can feel better if you explain it to us," Sakura said.
"My mother and I were out in a little boat. She was investigating a sudden increase in the Remoraid population. I was happy in seeing one, but one spewed a Water Gun in my face and I fell in the water. The Remoraid were just playing, but I didn't know that. They squirted me back on the boat, and I ended up in my mother's arms. My mother was relieved, but I wasn't. She was happy seeing those Remoraid, But I was terrified. I'll never forget that feeling, the feeling of being surrounded by fear. The fear of Water-type Pokémon. She said I would grow up and make Lake Lucid even prettier. I did. I grew up and continued the work my mother and grandmother started. I may never be as great as they were, but I do the best job I can to honor both of them," Nurse Joy explained.
"That explains why you have that scuba suit," Sora said.
"I'm sorry, Nurse Joy, but I don't think doing a job you hate honors anybody," Kaley said.
"I don't hate my job, Kaley. I love Lake Lucid and I'm able to treat all kinds of sick and injured Pokémon, unfortunately for me, they're always all kinds of Water-type Pokémon. But a Pokémon nurse does what she has to, and that's what makes me happy," Nurse Joy said.
Suddenly, Team Rocket's submarine surfaces, catching the group's attention. Sora and Kairi rolled their eyes..
"Not these clowns again," Sora and Kairi said.
We made it! Good driving. We've entered the world of Water-type Pokémon!
"Jessie, the twerps are here, too," James said.
"They are?" Jessie asked.
"Hey, what's that thing?" Ash asked.
"It's a fake! A fake Tentacruel!" Nurse said.
"You're right about that, Nurse Joy. And I think I know who that this fake Tentacruel belongs to," Sora said.
"What do you mean? What's going on here?!" Nurse Joy exclaimed.
"Three, two, one," Sora counted.
"Prepare for trouble!" Jessie started.
"And make it double!" James rhymed.
Jessie and James flip out of the Tentacruel Submarine into the water, submerging all but one foot as they treat the group to a synchronized swimming display.
"To protect the world from devastation."
"To unite all peoples within our nation."
"To denounce the evils of truth and love."
"To extend our reach to the stars above."
They heard some gurgling. Jessie and James knew they couldn't breathe underwater. They submerged from the water.
"Jessie!"
"James!"
"Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare to fight, fight, fight, fight!"
"Meowth! That's right!"
"Wobbuffet!"
"Right on cue," Sora said.
"I don't remember inviting you to the party," Ash said.
"I'm very thankful there are so many tankfuls of Pokemon. But you know what they say, James, first thing's first," Jessie said.
"And that means Pikachu!" James said.
As Team Rocket hops into their submarine.
"Ready?" Jessie asked.
"Set," James said.
"Go!" Meowth said.
"What we practiced!" Sora called out.
"Pika," Pikachu nodded.
The Tentacruel submarine tries to grab Pikachu, but Pikachu leaps just in time.
"Nice try, but this mechanical Tentacruel has more legs than a chorus line and we get a kick out of every single one," Jessie said.
"One for the money, two for the show," James said.
"We're gonna grab you and never let go!" Jessie said.
The Tentacruel submarine makes another attempt, but dodges again. Sora wasn't going to have it any longer.
"Okay, Thunderbolt!" Sora ordered.
Pikachu does so, but James just laughs.
"Your Thunderbolt has no effect on rubber Tentacruel!" James gloated.
"Then what's that tingling sensation?" Jessie asked.
"Come to tink of it, we did just come out of da water.
"And doesn't water conduct electricity?" Jessie also pointed out.
James: In a way, I suppose so.
"Wobbuffett!" Wobbuffet said.
They all ended up being shocked by Pikachu's electricity.
"We should be wearing rubber, too!" Jessie exclaimed
"That comes as a shock!" James exclaimed.
"Wobbuffet!" Wobbuffet exclaimed.
The tentacles break off the submarine and a piece of one flies off and nails the tank Gyarados is in before hitting the drainage button in the pool Team Rocket came out of.
"Down the drain again!" Team Rocket exclaimed as they get flushed out.
"Morons," Sora said.
Meanwhile, the Gyarados tank cracks further, causing water to gush out and washing the suit into the pool.
"There goes my suit!" Nuse Joy gasped.
Nurse Joy tried to get it, but Tracey stopped her.
"It's no use! It's gone!"
The Gyarados then busts out of the tank)
"Oh no! That Gyarados is out!" Kaley exclaimed.
"We got to get that Gyarados back in the tank!" Leaf said.
The Gyarados then breaks the brace around its neck
"We gotta do something before it injures itself even more!" Nurse Joy said.
"Pikachu and I'll handle this!" Sora said.
"Count me in!" Ash said.
Sora, Ash, and Pikachu tried to rush in, but Tracey stopped them.
"Guys, it's too dangerous! That Gyarados is confused and it's in pain! It might lash out at strangers!" Tracey said.
Misty: But we can't stand by, we have to do something!
Nurse Joy: Gyarados is my responsibility.
Ash: Hold on, Nurse Joy. You can't do it.
Brock: Leave this to us, we'll handle it.
Nurse Joy: I can't. Neither of you has tried to calm a Gyarados in pain. You may be great Pokemon trainers, but neither of you is a great nurse.
Brock: Well, that's true.
That's why, I have to be the one to deal with that Gyarados. And so I will.
"But, Nurse Joy, you won't be able to. Your work suit just got washed away and you'll have to touch Gyarados with your bare hands," Kaley said
"This is an emergency, and nurses don't get to pick and choose their patients. It's a nurse's duty to heal the sick, whoever they may be!" Nurse Joy said she walks toward the Gyarados. "I can't focus on how I feel about Water-type Pokémon. But if I can just stay focused on the fact that I'm a nurse like my grandmother and my mother, and no matter what my feelings are, I have a duty to help and heal all Pokémon! I can do this!" She comes near the Gyarados. "I have the be strong. I have to help this poor Gyarados. If I touch it the right way, it'll calm down." She touches Gyarados' head crest. "Please, Gyarados, I'm here to help."
Gyarados soon calms down to the amazement of the group.
"Wow. She did it," Kaley said.
"She sure knows how to handle a Gyarados," Tracey said.
"She has to, because she's a Pokémon nurse," Kairi said.
"Alright, Chansey, let's get ready! Bring in the brace!" Nurse Joy said. Blissey and the Chansey do so as Gyarados breathes on Nurse Joy. "Put it on, Chansey! There's no Pokémon that's better than any other. There's no Pokémon that's worse than any other. They're all precious creatures."
"That sounds like something I heard somewhere before," Sora said.
"Every Pokemon trainer should know that saying, Sora. It comes from her grandmother's book, 'A Spring Without Pokemon'," Tracey said.
"The song of every Pokemon is sweet if you can hear it," Nurse Joy said.
"I you know what that's from. That's one of my favorite lines from "A Summer of Muk", the book Nurse Joy's mother wrote," Kaley said.
Soon, the Gyarados is calm again
Nurse Joy sighs with relief.
"You all did a wonderful job. Now take this Gyarados to another water tank, please," Nurse Joy said.
Blissey and the Chansey agree as Nurse Joy walks toward the group.
"Well, Kaley?" Nurse Joy asked.
"Yes, Nurse Joy?" Kaley askes.
"I'd still like to give your Pokémon a full examination. Maybe..." Nurse Joy said as she suddenly faints.
"Nurse Joy!" Kaley exclaimed.
"She's okay. She just need to rest to warm up," Sakura said.
"She's right. Let her rest for now," Kairi said.
Nurse Joy eventually woke up and she does a close examination, but without touching them.
"I'm sorry, Kaley. I wasn't able to touch your Water-type Pokemon," Nurse Joy apologized.
"Oh, that's alright. I'm really grateful you could examine them for me.
"All of them are in top physical condition. They have an excellent Trainer," Nurse Joy said.
"'l try to do my best. Nurse Joy, is it still true? Now that you touched Gyarados, do you still feel the same about Water-type Pokémon?" Kaley asked.
"Yes, Kaley. I still do. And will for the rest of my life. But that won't stop me. I have a job to do and a Pokémon Center to run and a book to write!" Nurse Joy said.
"As soon as that book comes out, I'm gonna buy a copy," Kaley said.
"So will I," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
Nurse Joy smiled at that. So, the group took their leave of the Lake Lucid Pokémon Center and continued onward. They said their goodbyes to Kaley as she heads her own way, but they wished her luck along her way. As for Nurse Joy; she may not have liked to touch Water-type Pokémon, but her commitment to help all sorts of Pokémon will always come before her personal feelings. That was something Kairi knew all too well since she feared and still does fear to lose Sora, but she became stronger as both a Pokémon Trainer and a Keyblade wielder.
