Hi guys! I am so sorry for the dreadful wait you guys had to bear for chapter 2. I just went on vacation but I'm back now and able to upload the next chapter. I've been home a few days but I'll be honest. I didn't feel like writing at all this past week so I've just been sitting around. Maybe I had writer's block or I just came up with a bunch of ideas for a book that I'm currently writing.
But anyways, I apologize for the wait and hopefully I'll kick back into writing. It's summer now, so I have plenty of time to write, but that depends on how motivated I am for writing. But since I have plenty of time in the summer, I'll try to get one or two chapters posted a week. If that doesn't happen, I just have a lack of motivation and will hopefully get on it soon.
Also, there was a question in the reviews asking if any villains like void knight, slider, or mucus will appear. The answer is I'm not sure but I believe that they'll appear at least once in this story.
But, without further talking, here's chapter 2! Enjoy.
The camper's views (just a few minutes before the rangers landed on Isla Nublar) . . .
It was Sammy's turn to prepare lunch, so she grabbed a hand-made weaved basket, and strutted off into the woods to gather some fruits and berries for her delightful concoction.
Kenji was in his usual spot, doing his usual thing, at his usual time: Sprawling himself out on the dry wood of their deck, sunbathing in a patch of sunlight while reading a torn and old magazine right before the sun reached its highest point in the sky. A fresh and surprisingly well squeezed glass of orange juice lay on the table next to him.
Brooklynn was fiddling with a camera she scrounged from main street a few weeks ago. She was attempting to get her vlog up and running again but success was out of range. After all, they didn't have any real tools to help her with the job.
Yaz was out on her run as expected. She was seeking as much athletic time as possible before the winter season hit.
Ben was somewhere in the jungle with Bumpy, likely locating a new fresh water source for fun just in case their current ones dried up, which was unlikely.
And Darius was also in the woods, recording some dinosaur information for his field guide.
The day was calm and peaceful. Everyone was doing their own thing and enjoying themselves. Thankfully, dinosaurs had kept clear of the treehouse ever since the Scorpious-rex attacked.
Sammy hadn't gone far into the forest when she spotted a perfectly untouched bush of edible berries. So she set her basket down and began scooping as many berries as she could into her basket before moving on to try and find some large fruit.
Moments later, a mango tree made its way into Sammy's field of vision. The mangoes weren't ripe, but they looked so juicy and tasty, Sammy had to pick a few for today's lunch.
Although the day was bright and calm, a sudden wave of vibration moved through the air. Sammy could feel the breeze stop and it almost felt as if there was no oxygen in the world.
Panicking, Sammy lifted her basket and tried to move through the air, but something began to levitate her from the Earth's surface and for a few seconds, it was almost as if gravity didn't exist.
Desperately clinging to a tree branch, Sammy shut her eyes and waited for the terrifying minute to pass. But it didn't. The strange wave of levitational, gravitational, and magnetic pull continued for minutes until finally, Sammy slumped forward, still clutching the branch until her knuckles turned a creamy white color.
Still recovering from the bizarre outburst of energy, Sammy finally released the branch after she was convinced that the moment had passed. Ignoring the scattered mess of berries, Sammy scooped up her basket and bolted in the direction of her treehouse, digging her boots into the compacted Earth beneath her.
It was only a short time before Sammy made it back home. She scanned the area to make sure all of her friends were safe.
Kenji was lying in the same position as earlier, but his orange juice had spilled and was soaking his blue shirt, and his face was pouring buckets of sweat.
At first, Sammy couldn't spot Yaz amongst the trees, but she eventually noticed the athlete reclining toward a trunk, her face wet with sweat and tears. The sudden energy must have scared her to death because she was probably in a full speed sprint when it happened.
Darius, Ben, and Bumpy didn't appear to be back at the treehouse yet, but Sammy could only imagine the distress they must be in right now.
The last camper Sammy hadn't checked on was Brooklynn. The pink-haired girl was bent over in her chair, hands clutching her head. The camera was shattered at her feet but that didn't seem to matter right now. The super star was breathing very rapidly and was whispering some nonsense to herself. She hadn't seemed to have recovered yet. Well none of them had, really.
A minute later, everyone was slowly resuming their lives.
Darius, Ben, and Bumpy scampered out of the jungle. Their faces were frozen as popsicles.
"Is everyone okay?" Darius shouted, hands cupped around his mouth when he finally mustered up the strength to speak.
Yaz was on her hands and knees now, but she mumbled a "yes."
Brooklynn was already picking up the pieces to her camera, which probably meant she was fine.
Sammy and Kenji nodded their heads and gave thumbs ups.
Soon, everyone was back to normal.
"What do you think that was?" Sammy questioned as she helped Brooklynn pick up the broken camera bits.
"I don't know, but it scared me real good. I hope it doesn't happen again," Brooklynn responded, concentrating her eyes on the shattered camcorder.
"Agreed," Sammy finished cleaning the mess and stood up to go talk to Yaz. But I'm still curious? Sammy pondered to herself. "Hey, Yaz!"
"Oh! Hey, Sammy," The athlete replied, pausing her stationary workout for a moment.
"What do you think that weird energy feeling thingy was?" Sammy asked.
"I'm thinking about the same thing. I wish I could tell you," Yaz replied. "I was doing a full sprint when it happened, so when my legs stopped moving, I screamed because I couldn't move and was being pulled in the opposite direction. When it stopped, my legs were still in running mode, so I bolted into a tree branch and got this," she pulled up her jacket sleeve to reveal an angry purple and blue bruise with a scar and a bit of blood trickling down her shoulder.
So I was right. Yaz was sprinting when the mysterious levitational pull occurred. Sammy thought.
Sammy stood up and walked over to Kenji, who was furiously squeezing another orange into a mug to make himself another glass of orange juice. "Hi, Kenji," she started.
"Hi, Sammy," The blue boy grunted.
"Need any help?" Sammy offered.
When he looked up at her with a confused expression, Sammy had to add to her sentence. "I mean with the orange juice?"
"Oh. No, I got it," he replied curtly.
Sammy was going to ask him about the momentary gravitational energy that just occurred, but decided that Kenji wasn't in the mood to talk about it, so she left him to squeeze his orange. Darius will probably have some answers. Sammy trotted over to the dino nerd, who was holding his field guide, brows furrowed in concentration. "Hi, Darius,"
"Hey, Sammy. What's up?" Darius smiled at the texan.
"I'm just going around asking everyone about their experience with that . . ." Sammy was at a loss for words on how to describe it. Energy? ". . .Energy?" Sammy repeated her thought. "How did you feel?"
Darius opened his field guide, then stared out into the lush trees and soft orange sunset.
Wait, the sun is already setting. When I went to pick berries, it wasn't even mid-day. Surely, only a half hour has passed. Sammy thought.
"Don't you think it's kind of weird how the sun is already setting but just half-an-hour ago, it wasn't even at its highest point?" Sammy read her thoughts out loud.
"Huh. I guess you're right. Wait . . ." Darius took a few moments to register Sammy's sentence. "Wow. I guess you are right. How's that possible?"
As confused as Darius was, Sammy smothered in a possibility. "That energy was really strong. I think we almost blew away. Maybe whatever caused it was a time structure that interrupted the dinosaur world, and ruptured time . . . to cause it to fast-forward or something?" The slightly illogical explanation caused Sammy to hide her burning cheeks in embarrassment. "Sorry. That probably didn't make any sense."
"No, I think you had a point," Darius was scribbling something onto an empty page in his notebook. "Do you have any further analysis?"
Caught off guard by his curiosity to her silly explanation, Sammy was fumbling for words to please her intelligent friend, but could find none. "Uh . . . uh . . . umm . . .? Sorry, Darius. That's all I've got."
"Hm. Maybe the levitation will happen again, but this time we'll be ready for it," Darius said.
"Ya, but I still wonder what caused that weird surge of power. Don't you?" Sammy inquired.
"Of course. Don't we all wonder?" Darius gestured toward the treehouse of campers, all peacefully minding their own business. "But there's no telling if we'll ever know."
Sammy sighed and pushed herself off of the rock she was sitting on. "Well, hopefully we'll find something soon. Thanks for your help, Darius."
"Anytime," He closed his field guide and gave Sammy a hug before heading in the opposite direction.
Sammy made her way to the last friend–or technically the last two because of Bumpy.
The three sat in silence for a while until Sammy spoke up. "So, Ben. How are you doing?"
"I'm great. How about you?" Ben directed the question back at Sammy.
"Well, I'm doing okay. But really? You're doing great after that weird surge of energy?"
"Why wouldn't I be?" Ben seemed confused at her strange question.
Sammy raised her eyebrows which caused him to give her more of a reason.
"I mean, we've faced way more life-threatening situations. Especially me and Bumpy–since I was alone for a period of time after I fell off the monorail. We've all been chased and almost eaten by dinosaurs. We got attacked at our own treehouse by the Scorpious-rex, a freaky hybrid dinosaur! When that energy hit, Bumpy and I stood still and toughed it out until it passed. And it did within minutes. Weird things happen here all of the time. It's not like that was any different."
"But it was different, Ben. It was," Sammy pressed. "We've never felt anything like it."
Ben ruffled his brows. "Why are you so curious? It was a surge of energy. That's all."
"Nevermind," Sammy's tone hinted a bit of annoyance at her friend. She forced herself to stand and began walking away from Ben and Bumpy.
It wasn't just a surge of energy. Sammy was going to find out what that dynamism was and she was going to prove to her friends that it wasn't just a normal thing on Isla Nublar. It wouldn't be long before evidence wormed its way to Sammy. Then, answers would be hers.
Okay, so that was chapter 2! I hope I did a good job. I'm so sorry that I promised this chapter like a week earlier then I didn't write it.
I hope the chapter was still interesting since I didn't put much dialogue in the first half of the chapter. An interaction between the power rangers and the campers will hopefully happen in the next chapter. If it doesn't, then it will definitely happen in chapter four.
I can't promise when chapter 3 will be out, but I'll try to post chapter 3 next weekend. Please review! Thanks for reading!
Yarn Kitty!
