Episode 220: You Said A Mouthful
A couple of days have passed since Sora, Kairi, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel made an encounter with a wild Seedot, resting happily by a tree when Sora noticed the little acorn-like Pokémon.
"Wow, another one Hoenn Pokémon," Sora said.
"It's a Seedot!" Max said.
Sora took out his Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Seedot, the Acorn Pokémon
Type: Grass
Seedot attaches itself to a tree branch using the top of its head. It sucks moisture from the tree while hanging off the branch. The more water it drinks, the glossier this Pokémon's body becomes.
"Seedot, huh?" Sora asked, putting his Rotom Phone away.
"Oh, Sora, he's so cute!" Kairi cooed at the sight of Seedot.
"Eevee," Angel said.
Sora stepped in to catch this Seedot.
"Which one will you be using, Sora?" May asked.
"I thinking of using," Sora paused just before he threw it. "Treecko!" The Pokéball opens as Treecko sticks his twig in his mouth. Seedot stands up and sees the Wood Gecko Pokémon in front of him. "Treecko! Pound!" Treecko swings his tail to land a hit. Seedot dodges and launches himself like a rocket and lands a hit on him with a strong Tackle. "Treecko! Pound again!" Treecko swings his tail again and lands a pretty good hit on Seedot. "Pound again!" Treecko smacks Seedot again as he began to build some energy in his body.
"Sora! Careful! Seedot is using Bide!" Kairi called out.
"Right! Treecko! Use Leafage, but don't aim it at Seedot!" Sora called out. Treecko looked at his Trainer quite confused. "Trust me!" Treecko did fire Leafage and it didn't hit Seedot. Seedot waited for the hit to come, but it didn't. "Now use Quick Attacck, but run around Seedot!" Treecko ran around Seedot and he looks left and right and kept doing so until Seedot became so dizzy and fell to the ground and Bide has failed to kick in. "Great! Now use Pound again and follow with Leafage! And this time, land a hit!" Treecko smacks Seedot hard and then fired Leafage, giving the acorn Pokémon a series of hits. Seedot fell down on the ground as Sora takes out a Pokéball and throws it right at Seedot, making him flow inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around, waiting for the catch to be successful. Stars swirls around it to confirm the catch. Sora chose to send over Seedot. "There. Now, what's for lunch?"
"I was thinking of making some spicy rice curry. And I know how you like it to be done," Kairi said, making Sora smile.
"Sweet!" Sora said.
"I'd like to taste that," Brendan said.
The couple had made their lunch for Brendan, May, and Max and took off as soon as they had eaten and cleaned up the mess. Just as the group were walking down the road when a Wurmple came down and started to chow down on the spicy rice curry.
"A Wurmple!" Max exclaimed.
"Hey, get out of there! Shoo! Vamoose!" Sora said.
"She's got quite an appetite," Kairi said.
"Okay, there's one way to settle this," Sora said as he took out a Pokéball and threw it. The Wurmple flows inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Sora took the Pokéball.
Just as the group were walking down the road when they met a couple of boys along the way.
"Lookie here!" One of the boys said.
"We found a very nice looking couple," the other boy said. "What do you think, Lou?"
"I'm wondering how they are when it comes to Pokémon battles?" Lou said. "What do you suggest we do, Beau?"
"I was thinking we should battle the both of them, Lou," Lou suggested.
"I like that idea a lot, Beau," Lou said. "What do you lovebirds say? Wanna have a battle with us?" Lou and Beau each took out a Pokéball. Sora looked over to Kairi.
"What do you think, Kairi? Should we accept?" Sora asked his girlfriend.
"I think we should. I mean, you could use the excercise for your Gym battle," Kairi said.
"I think you're right, Kairi," Sora said. "After all, it should be loads of fun."
"Pika!" Pikachu agreed.
"Alright!" Lou shouted.
"Let's do this thing!" Beau added. Both Lou and Beau had thrown their Pokéballs. "Go! Wingull!" The Pokéballs open and unleashed two Wingull. Sora took out his Pokédex and scanned the two new Pokémon.
Wingull, the Seagull Pokémon
Type: Water/Flying
Wingull has the habit of carrying prey and valuables in its beak and hiding them in all sorts of locations. This Pokémon rides the winds and flies as if it were skating across the sky.
"So, A Water and Flying-type, huh? I know who'll be up for it," Sora said, turning to his partner. "You up for it, Pikachu?"
"Pika!" Pikachu said. Pikachu stepped in. Sora turned to his girlfriend.
"Your turn, Kairi," Sora said.
Kairi didn't need much convincing, so she turned to Angel.
"Okay, Angel, you're in!" Kairi said.
"Eevee!" Angel said as she stands next to Pikachu.
"So it's an Electric-type and a Normal-type Pokémon, huh?" Lou asked.
"Even though it's a Pikachu, we're not afraid of a little lightning," Beau said.
"You're gonna be afraid of our lightning! Pikachu! Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Pikachu ran right at one of the Wingull.
"Angel! You use Quick Attack, too!" Kairi ordered. Angel also ran fast and dashes towards the other Wingull.
"Wingull! Use your Water Gun!" Lou and Beau ordered. Both Wingull fired Water Gun at the rodent Pokémon.
"Dodge it with Quick Attack!" Sora and Kairi called out as they both used their speed attack to avoid the Wingull's Water Gun.
"Okay, Angel! Use Swift!" Kairi ordered.
"Pikachu! Thunderbolt!" Sora ordered. Both Pikachu and Angel used their chosen attacks to shock both Wingull, dealing some heavy damge due to their weakness to electricity. "That was a sweet move, Kairi!"
"Thanks Sora. That Thunderbolt is a nice touch too!" Kairi said.
"Thanks a bunch," Sora said.
"Celebrate all you want, but it won't save you!" Beau said.
"You've said it, Beau! Let's end this now!" Lou said.
"Wingull! Use your Supersonic!" Lou and Beau ordered. The Wingull fired their Supersonic, hoping to confuse Pikachu and Angel, but the Elctric-type Pokémon had easily avoided it.
"Pikachu! Electro Ball!" Sora ordered.
"Minun! Use Iron Tail!" Kairi ordered.
Pikachu forms a ball of electricity and hurls it right at one of the Wingull, dealing a blow while Angel had gotten to the other Wingull and swung her tail and lands a hit.
"Wrap it up with Quick Attack!" Sora and Kairi ordered. Pikachu and Angel both ran right at the Seagull Pokémon and landed a hit on them, earning a double knockout, much to Lou and Beau's dismay.
"No way! We lost!" Lou and Beau both exclaimed.
"Way to go!" Sora and Kairi celebrated as Sora took Kairi in his arms and span her around. Pikachu and Angel did the same thing. Once the battle was over, both Lou and Beau called back their fallen Wingull and walked over to the couple.
"Congrats you two," Lou said.
"Yeah, you guys are pretty good," Beau said.
"You guys are pretty good yourselves," Sora said.
"You should be proud of your Wingull since you raised them both good," Kairi added. Lou and Beau smiled as they high-fived even though they lost.
"She's right, Lou. We did our best and that's what should matter," Beau said.
With that said, Sora, Kairi, Brendan, May, Pikachu, and Angel parted ways with the boys and continued on their way. As they kept going, they made their way to a nearby town and head to the local Pokémon Center to rest up their Pokémon. As they arrived in town, they come across a huge sign. The sign features a Pelipper on it.
"Sora, look at this," Kairi said.
"Pikachu?" Pikachu asked.
"What's this?" Brendan asked as Sora began reading the sign.
"The Gym with the most powerful Pokémon just ahead?" Sora asked.
"Most powerful Pokémon?" Kairi raised a brow.
"I dunno. It's probably some kind of publicity stunt," Sora said.
"A publicity stunt? What do you mean?" May asked.
"Like what?" Max asked.
"It could be a scam. Just a way to make con people out of their life savings, that sort of thing," Sora said.
"But we won't know unless we have a look, right?" Brendan asked.
"You're right, Brendan. I think I would like to see this for myself," Kairi said.
"We all would," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
With that said, Sora, Kairi, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel took their leave of the poster. They soon find the Gym that fits the perfect description.
"This has to be the place," Brendan said. The sound of a boy screaming is heard and he ran out with a Pokéball in hand. They went up to him.
"What seems to be the matter?" Kairi asked.
"Eevee?" Angel also asked.
"Aw, man, it's crazy! It can't be possible! It's not normal!" The boy yelled as he ran off.
"I'm going to guess he lost against the most powerful Pokémon," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"I think I'm going to challenge it into a battle and I'm going to beat it!" Brendan said. Everyone stepped in and saw the battlefield ahead of them. "I'm here to challenge the world's most powerful Pokémon to a battle!" A recording of cheering is heard as sliding glass doors opened and a man and a Pelipper came jumping out.
"A battle call! The sound that's music to my ears! They call me Anthony, and you want the battle of your life, you've come to the right place!" The man announced. He points to the group who gave him a dumbfounded expression.
"I guess a lack of confidence isn't an issue here," Sora said. Brendan walked up.
"My name is Brendan, and I have come to challenge you to a battle!" Brendan said.
"Is that Pelipper really the world's most powerful Pokémon?" Max asked.
"You can bet your boots on that, but this is not an official Pokémon League Gym. And I have no Badges to give either. After all, why should I have any Badges on hand when my Pelipper here never ever loses!" Anthony boasted.
"This guy's pretty sure of himself," Sora said, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Pelipper, the Water Bird Pokémon
The evolved form of Wingull
Type: Water/Flying
Pelipper is a flying transporter that carries small Pokémon and eggs inside its massive bill. This Pokémon builds its nest on steep cliffs facing the sea.
"Mark my words, I will not rest until everyone knows that Pelipper is the world's most powerful Pokémon!" Anthony said.
"This guy should hold seminars," Sora said.
"Well, I challenge you and your Pelipper to a battle!" Brendan said. Anthony laughed.
"I accept any and all challenges in anytime!" Anthony said.
"We wouldn't expect anything less," Kairi said.
"What are the rules?" Brendan asked.
"I battle using only the world's most powerful Pokémon. You may use as many Pokémon as you like!" Anthony said.
"That's it?" Brendan asked.
"Well, this keeps getting better and better," Sora said.
"Alright, let's get it over with!" Brendan said. It didn't take long until Brendan got ready for his match. He took out a Pokéball and threw it. "Okay, Zigzagoon! Let's go!" Brendan's Pokéball opened and a Zigzagoon came right out.
"Pelipper, let's go!" Anthony called out. Pelipper stepped in.
"This should be good to see," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Max, what moves can Pelipper use?" May asked.
"Pelipper can use mostly Water and Flying-type moves It can also use some Normal, Steel, Ice, Poison, Electric, Psychic, and Dark-type moves. Of course, you're the Pokémon Trainer, so you should know that," Max said. May chuckled sheepishly.
"Pelipper! Use Wing Attack!" Anthony ordered. Pelipper flew at Zigzagoon.
"Okay, Zigzagoon! Dodge and use Headbutt!" Brendan ordered. Zigzagoon dodges Pelipper's wings and heads right at Pelipper with a Headbutt. "Nice job, Zigzagoon!"
"That Pelipper doesn't look all that impressive to me," Max said.
"That's usually how it goes with people who love bragging so much," May said.
"This battle's just beginning! Alright, Pelipper! Vine Whip!" Anthony ordered. A flash came from Pelipper's bill. Kairi was quick to notice. Sora, Kairi, and Max were caught off guard when he made that order.
"Vine Whip?!" Sora exclaimed.
"Pelipper can't use Vine Whip!" Max said. Vines came out of Pelipper's bill and grabbed Zigzagoon. The Tiny Raccoon Pokémon was knocked out by the attack.
"Okay, I definitely smell a scam," Kairi whispered.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Max, remind us. Pelipper can't use Vine Whip, right?" Sora asked.
"That's right! Pelipper can't use Vine Whip!" Max said.
"Okay, I'll fight Flying-type with Flying-type!" Brendan said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Taillow!" His Pokéball opened and his Taillow came out.
"You go, too, Pelipper!" Anthony said. Pelipper flew in the air.
"Your Pelipper's good, but my Taillow is faster! Show 'em!" Brendan said.
"Nice try, Brendan. Flamethrower!" Anthony ordered. This surprised Brendan.
"What?! Flamethrower?!" Brendan exclaimed. Pelipper shuts and opens its bill again, and another flash came from inside and spews Flamethrower, hitting Taillow with just one hit. Kairi noticed the flash from within the bill.
"No! Flamethrower!" Max exclaimed.
"I thought you said Pelipper can use the types of moves you mentioned before. Sounds like you need to study a little more," May said.
"That's all it can use! I don't get it! What's the deal with this Pelipper? It's not supposed to be happening!" Max exclaimed.
"Ready to give up yet, Brendan?" Anthony asked. "No matter what Pokémon you use, the results are the same!"
"I'm not coming up!" Brendan said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Treecko!" His Pokéball opened and Treecko came out to battle. "Treecko! Use Leafage!" Treecko unleashed Leafage. Kairi saw another flash in her bill.
"Use Thunder!" Anthony ordered. Pelipper unleashed Thunder and takes out Treecko with just one hit. "Way to go! Now you see why my Pelipper's the world's most powerful Pokémon!" He boastfully laughed as Kairi ran towards Pelipper. She tickles Pelipper. "Hey, what do you think you're doing?"
"Tickle, tickle, tickle!" Kairi said, tickling the Water Bird Pokémon. Pelipper starts bursting into laughter as a Bellsprout, a Magby, a Magnemite, and some other Pokéballs came flying out. Anthony gasped.
"I knew it! It is a scam! This whole thing is a scam!" Kairi stated.
"I knew something didn't smell right! This guy's a dirty, dirty, dirty cheater!" Sora said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
"Eevee!" Angel said.
"So I lost to a cheater?!" Brendan exclaimed in anger.
"I guess you were right, Max," May said.
"See? Pelipper never could use Vine Whip, Flamethrower, or Thunder because it's impossible!" Max said.
"He did it by stuffing Pelipper's bill with Pokéballs and smaller Pokémon just so it'll look like it!" Kairi said.
"What do you think we should do with him?" Brendan asked.
"We should report him to Officer Jenny, that's what we should do," Sora said.
"Good idea. I can bet she'll be interested in hearing the tale," Kairi said.
"No, wait! Please, don't tell her! I don't want to go to jail!" Anthony pleaded as he got on his knees.
"You should have thought of that before you decided to cheat in a Pokémon battle!" Sora said.
"At least wait until you hear my side of the story!" Anthony said. Everyone got inside and he started to explain himself. "I only did it because I wanted to win a Pokémon battle very badly."
"Pelipper," Pelipper said.
"The thing is, when I was a boy, I had a really bad losing streak, and everyone made fun of me for it. I tried so hard to win, but nothing I did worked. I had my Pelipper back when he was a Wingull, so when he evolved, I got an idea. I stuffed Pelipper's bill with Pokéballs, so I had my other Pokémon use their attacks from the inside. It felt so good to win for a change, and I've been doing it ever since," Anthony said.
"That explains it," Brendan said.
"You gotta understand what you did was very wrong," Sora said.
"I know that, but I just ignored the morality and just did it anyway. And I was so worried about people getting wise to me, because I was worried about people asking me how I did it, so I kept my mouth shut about it," Anthony said.
"Anthony, you shouldn't have done that to begin with. I mean, everyone gets carried away with wanting to win so badly, but you would have been caught one way or the other. You could have just trained your Pelipper and avoid any suspicions. I mean, you having to use your smaller Pokémon to pass him off as a super Pelipper was a huge stretch," Sora said. Anthony sighed.
"What should I do?" Anthony asked.
"Here's an idea. Just train your Pelipper the right way. And battle the right way, because you don't want to win battles just by cheating," Sora said.
"He's right," Kairi agreed. "That's how a Trainer and their Pokémon can grow together." Anthony looked at Pelipper and he smiled.
"You're right. I should start doing it the right way. I mean, you may not be the world's most powerful Pokémon, but you are to me," Anthony said.
"Pelipper," Pelipper said.
"Wow, this Pokémon stuff gets better all the time," May said.
Sora, Kairi, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel took their leave of the Gym as Anthony has vowed to be honest and never cheat in a Pokémon battle again.
A few days later, they continued on their journey to Rustboro City.
Along the way, the group have made an encounter with a small mauve, bipedal Pokémon with a spherical body. Its eyes are black and shaped like plus signs, and it has a simple, wide mouth. Two small openings on top of its head act as its ear canals. Covering its ear canals are long, yellow-tipped flaps resembling rabbit ears. It has stubby arms and yellow-tipped feet that lack toes and have plus shaped markings underneath. Above its small, plug-like tail is a yellow, crescent marking. There is a hole in the center of its tail.
"Oh, Sora. He is so cute!" Kairi gushed.
"It's a Whismur!" Max said.
"Let's see what the Pokédex app has to say about you," Sora said, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned the small Pokémon.
Whismur, the Whisper Pokémon
Type: Normal
Normally, Whismur's voice is very quiet—it is barely audible even if one is paying close attention. However, if this Pokémon senses danger, it starts crying at an earsplitting volume.
Sora has put away his Pokédex as Whismur starts crying, making them hold their ears.
"Earsplitting is right!" Sora shoted.
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
"I thought the Pokédex said, Whismur is called the Whisper Pokémon!" Kairi yelled.
"That was my thought as well!" Sora yelled as well. Whismur stopped crying as Sora took out his Pokéball and threw it. "Go for it, Treecko!" The Pokéball opens and Treecko puts his twig in his mouth. "Start up with Pound!" Treecko moves in to deliever a Pound attack onto Whismur, but the whisper Pokémon dodges and uses its own Pound on the wood gecko Pokémon. Treecko skids onto the ground, but he wasn't easily licked. Treecko! Use Leafage!" Treecko fires Leafage and it strikes Whismur. Whismur then starts to stomp around, creating a blue sound wave.
"He's using Uproar!" Kairi said.
"Treecko! Use Quick Attack!" Sora ordered as Treecko darts into Whismur, dealing some damage while Whismur was stomping around. "Now use one more Pound!" Treecko smacks into Whismur. As Whismur fell, the whisper Pokémon calms down as it runs out of energy. Sora takes out a Pokéball and throws it right at the wild Whismur, making it flow inside it. The Pokéball wobbles around and around until stars swirls around the Pokéball, confirming the catch.
"Another good catch," Sora said.
"I'll say it was, Sora," Kairi agreed as she gave her boyfriend a deserved kiss on the cheek. Sora just blushed.
Meanwhile, Rei has gotten everything she needed for her own journey.
"Sora, I know you and the others will need my advice. So I'll be coming to Hoenn," Rei said. She stepped out of her house and headed for the Ketchum house. She saw Delia, Yuta, Mirei, Seth, Karen, Mimey, Blossom, and the Pichu standing out of their houses. "Hi, everyone."
"You're off to meet up with the kids, aren't you, Rei?" Yuta asked.
"I am. If I'm going to meet my newest apprentices, then I must be prepared. And I know they'll need me to guide them," Rei said.
"You would be right. Just be sure to tell Sora that I said thanks for the video he sent me," Delia requested.
"I will, Delia," Rei said. She gave Delia a hug. Delia hugged her back.
"And may Kaito watch over you," Delia said. Rei smiled at the mention of her old mentor.
"Thank you," Rei said.
Rei started to take her leave as everyone wished her luck.
That night, as everyone slept, Kairi had her own dream. And it was there she saw a figure wearing a black hood. The hooded figure turned to see her.
"So it's you," the figure spoke. Kairi was surprised to hear she has her voice.
"Who are you?" Kairi asked. The hooded figure took off her hood and she revealed her face to her. It was Xion.
"Just someone who's much closer than you would think, Kairi," Xion said.
"Are you me?" Kairi asked.
"You could say that, Kairi. I'm you just the same as you are me," Xion said.
"I'm having trouble understanding what you mean, but for some reason, it feels like I know you, but I don't think we ever met before," Kairi said.
"We never met face-to-face, but I feel the same way," Xion said.
"Just what should I call you? I mean, it be less likely that I'm talking to myself," Kairi said.
"Just call me Xion," Xion said.
"Xion," Kairi said. "Okay, of that's you want, Xion. How am I dreaming you?"
"You might be dreaming me or I'm dreaming you. Either way, we're a part of each other. I wanted to meet you for real at least once in my life," Xion said.
"Well, I'm glad to meet you, Xion. I really mean it," Kairi said. Xion smiled. "But can you use a Keyblade like I can?"
"I don't know. I never tried it," Xion said. She held out her hand and she called forth a Kingdom Key. "I guess I can." Xion dismissed it.
"I thought as much, Xion," Kairi said.
"You're a kind person, Kairi; kinder than I thought. Can I ask you a question though?" Xion asked.
"Huh? Sure," Kairi said.
"Do you think my emotions are real?" Xion asked. Kairi was a bit confused by her question.
"What do you mean?" Kairi asked.
Before Xion could answer, she was waken up by sound. The sound of Sora's Torchic chasing May's Torchic. Sora and May tried to keep them apart. Sora's Torchic was pecking at May's Torchic just for fun.
"Hey, you leave May's Torchic alone right now!" Sora said as May's Torchic jumped into May's arms.
"There, there, it's okay," May said. She angrily glared at Sora's Torchic. "Can't you control your Torchic, Sora?"
"Sorry about that, May. My Torchic just got too carried away," Sora said. He looked at his Torchic. "Okay, Torchic, say you're sorry." He crossed his arms and tapped his toes. "Well, we're waiting." Sora's Torchic gave him a scowl and then approached May's Torchic.
"Torchic," Sora's Torchic apologized.
"There, was that so hard?" Sora asked.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
Sora turned to his girlfriend who have gotten up from her sleeping bag.
"Morning, Kairi. Sleep okay?" Sora asked.
"Just fine, until I woke up to this. What was just going on?" Kairi asked.
"Sorry that you had to wake up like that. My Torchic was pecking at May's Torchic just for kicks, so we had to break it up before a brawl could occur," Sora explained.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Well, I'm glad you stopped it, Sora," Kairi said. She turned to Sora's Torchic. "It's not nice to peck at Torchic."
"Torchic," Sora's Torchic chirped.
We'll have to cut it short here for right now, but what other adventures awaits Sora and his friends until they reach Rustoboro City? Just wait and see.
