Episode 223: All Things Bright and Beautifly!
A couple of days came and went since adding Lotad to his ever growing team. They were getting closer and closer towards Rustboro City, so Sora decided to do some training before his Gym battle.
"Okay, guys, you ready to go?" Sora asked. Pikachu, Torchic, Treecko, Mudkip, Taillow, Zigzagoon, Slakoth, Wurmple, Nincada, Poochyena, Seedot, and Whismur all responded to him with a shout. Whismur was the loudest. Sora was digging his finger into his ears, making sure he didn't lose his hearing. "I can tell you are, Whismur. Okay, same drill as before! Do your thing!" Sora's Pokémon started to train. Wurmple tackled into Nincada, but the Trainee Pokémon came at Wurmple with a Scratch, but she dodged with ease. She fired String Shot, tying up Nincada in her silk. "That was great, Wurmple!" The Worm Pokémon wriggles around and around.
"I guess it never hurts to train, too, right?" Kairi asked.
"Eevee!" Angel agreed. She giggled as she took out her Pokéballs and threw them up. "Plusle, Minun, Wurmple, Budew, and Swablu! Come out!" Her Pokémon came out for some training. "Okay, everyone. You ready for some practice?" Kairi's Pokémon all answered their Trainer and they got down to training. Kairi's Wurmple charges and tackled into Budew and Swablu. Both Wurmple started to wriggle around and around until they started to glow. The couple's Wurmple both started to evolve.
"Wurmple!" Sora and Kairi said. Both Wurmple have completed their evolution. Sora's Wurmple has become a Cascoon, and Kairi's Wurmple has become a Silcoon.
"They evolved," Kairi said.
"My Wurmple's a Cascoon, and yours is a Silcoon," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
Kairi's Rotom Phone starts ringing and she answered it.
"Hello?" Kairi answered her phone.
"Hello, Kairi," Naminé's voice spoke. "Glad to hear your voice."
"Naminé! You too!" Kairi said. Sora smiled, knowing it means she and Riku aren't too far away. "Where are you?"
"We're close to Rustboro City," Naminé said.
"So are we. How far are you?" Kairi asked.
"We're closer than you think we are," a familiar voice spoke.
"Riku!" Sora said.
"Naminé!" Kairi said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
"Eevee!" Angel said.
"Good to see you've caught up at last," Sora said.
"Well, it took a while, but we managed to catch up," Riku said. He noticed the new Pokémon Riku has caught. "I take it you've been busy catching Pokémon, Sora."
"You catch any since you got here?" Sora asked. Riku took out a couple of Pokéballs and opened them.
"Come out," Riku said. Out came a Poochyena and a Duskull. "Meet my Poochyena and my Duskull." Sora took out his Rotom Phone to scan the ghostly Pokémon.
Duskull, the Requiem Pokémon
Type: Ghost
Duskull wanders lost among the deep darkness of midnight. There is an oft-told admonishment given to misbehaving children that this Pokémon will spirit away bad children who earn scoldings from their mothers.
"Yikes, remind me to keep my best behavior," Sora said, putting his Rotom Phone away.
"Duskull is my newest one. Caught him just a few days ago," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"We should meet up with the others. Brendan, May, and Max would like to meet you," Kairi said.
"Sure," Naminé said.
And right on cue, they met with Brendan and the siblings.
"Sora, Kairi, get your training done?" Brendan asked.
"Yeah. Our Wurmple have both evolved at once, and we got someone we want you to meet," Sora said. May looked at Riku, Naminé, Eevee, and Azurill.
"And who are they?" May asked.
"I'm Riku, and this Eevee is my partner," Riku introduced.
"And I'm Naminé. And this little one is Azurill. Say hello, Azurill," Naminé said.
"Azurill," Azurill chirped.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Brendan," Brendan introduced himself.
"My name's May," May introduced herself.
"And I'm Max," Max introduced himself. He looked at Riku's Eevee. "I really like your Eevee. Hi, Eevee." Max tried to pet Eevee, but he just jumped onto Riku's shoulder.
"My Eevee only opens up with me and Naminé," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"It's so cool to see your Eevee has your hairstyle. Makes him look so stylish and so adorable," May said.
"Thanks, May. And I take it that you're Norman's kids, aren't you?" Riku asked.
"Yeah," May answered.
"You know our dad?" Max asked.
"We met him when we got to Petalburg City. We mentioned you to the Petalburg City Gym Leader whom goes by the name of Norman; him and his wife Caroline, he invited us in," Riku said.
"We told them how we know you and they assumed that we would be good friends with May and Max. I think they were right," Naminé said.
"So after getting to know them, we set off to find you," Riku said.
"You didn't mention anything about the Keyblade, did you?" Sora asked.
"Norman didn't bring that up, so I didn't bother to bring up either. Not about the Heartless, the Unversed, the Nobodies, or Organization XIII," Riku said.
"Brendan and I actually met someone from the Organization," May said.
"Yeah, it was some guy calling himself Marluxia. You ever met him?" Brendan asked.
"No, but if they're showing up in Hoenn just like they did in Johto, then it's anything but good," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee agreed.
"That we can agree on," Kairi said.
"Since we're almost in Rustboro City, we should travel together for a bit. Ash, Ethan, Kris, Leaf, and Lyra should be by now," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"You're right. Let's go," Riku said.
Not too long, Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, and Azurill have arrived to Rustboro City at last.
"Rustboro City. Made it," Kairi said.
"And we're ready for my gym battle!" Brendan exclaimed happily.
"But we're still over a day's walk from the gym, Brendan," Max said.
"That's more time of training," Sora said.
"I guess," Brendan said.
"Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Brendan, May, Max!" A familiar voice shouted. They looked ahead and saw Ash and Leaf. The voice belonged to Leaf. "So glad you've made it."
"Ash, Leaf!" Sora said.
"Good to see you," Kairi said.
"Likewise, Kairi," Ash said.
"Are Ethan, Kris, and Lyra here, too?" Naminé asked.
"We were just looking for them and then we found you," Leaf said.
"Hey, guys!" another familiar voice called out.
The voice belonged to Ethan as he, Kris, Lyra, and Marill came to the scene, waving to the group.
"Kris, Ethan, Lyra," Kairi greeted.
"Eevee!" Angel said to Marill.
"Marill, Marill, Marill, Marill!" Marill said, running up to Angel, giving her a hug.
"Here we all are. Just like we promised," Kris said.
"Yeah, it feels like forever," Ethan said.
"Sure has," Sora agreed.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
As Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, Azurill, and Marill walk, they see a Trainer brushing his Persian, another Trainer using a water hose to give her Flaaffy a bath, another Trainer practicing a firework act with his Slugma.
"They don't look like they're training for a battle, but I wonder what they're doing," Ethan said.
"Search me," Ash said.
"Check it out!" Max said. Everyone looks ahead. And they see a a building that reads "Pokémon Contest" on the front.
"What's happening here?" Ethan asked.
"I bet you they're all preparing for that Pokémon Contest," Max said.
"A Pokémon Contest?" May asked. Suddenly, a Beautifly lands on May's face, frightening her to the point of falling over while everyone else looks on, shocked. "Get off me!"
"Wow! Who's that Pokémon?" Naminé asked, taking out her white Rotom Phone to scan it.

Beautifly have long, thin noses which can extend to suck the pollen out of flowers.
"Beautifly, huh? Seems appropriate," Naminé said.
"Get off!" May exclaimed.
"Don't panic, May," Brendan said.
"I am so sorry!" A young woman's voice called out. The young woman has mahogany hair and blue eyes and shes wearing a yellow long-sleeved shirt and a long dark pink skirt. She is accompanied by a young man wearing a green long-sleeved shirt and light gray knee-length shorts.
"Are you okay?" The young man asked.
"We're fine thanks," Sora said. "Just can't say the same for her."
"Beautifly, get off of her this minute," the young woman scolded. Beautifly flew off and back to her trainer. "I am so sorry if my Beautifly startled you."
"It's really no big deal," Kairi said.
"No harm, no foul," Brendan said. Max walks up to the young woman.
"I've been wondering. Have you been training your Beautifly for that search Pokémon Contest?" Max asked.
"Well, as a matter of fact, I was. But unfortunately, some of the attacks went a little bit wrong," the young woman explained.
"That's probably my fault. Venomoth's Whirlwind was a tad too strong for Beautifly to handle," the young man said. "It was a hopless failure."
"My name is Janet, by the way," the young woman introduced herself.
"And I'm Chaz. How's it going?" Chaz introduced himself.
"Fine. I'm Sora."
"My name's Kairi."
"I'm Riku."
"I'm Naminé."
"I'm Ash."
"My name's Leaf."
"My name's Ethan."
"I'm Kris."
"I'm Lyra."
"My name is May, and this kid here is my little brother Max," May introduced.
"It's nice to meet you," Max said.
"And my name is Brendan," Brendan finished.
"Anyway, contest battling is pretty different from a normal battle, right?" Sora asked.
"That's one way of putting it, Sora. But there's more to it than just battling," Chaz said.
"It's about the beauty of the attacks," Janet said.
"And don't the winners of the contests get a cute little ribbon or something?" May asked.
"That's exactly right and they all look just like this," Janet said, taking out a small box and showing them two ribbons; one being two shades of green and the other being lavender and light purple. Both are topped with a crown, but the green one is circle shaped and the other one is heart shaped.
"Wow! You already won two?" May asked.
"You should check out the ribbon I just won," Chaz said, showing his ribbons. Kairi became intrigued by the idea of partcipating in the contest.
"Those are adorable," Naminé said.
"Azu, Azu," Azurill chirped.
"I never seen Pokémon Contest before, but I definitely heard about it," Riku said.
"Don't they have Pokémon Contests in the Alola region, Riku?" Max asked.
"No. And there isn't a Pokémon League there either," Riku said.
"What? Why not?" Max asked.
"There just isn't," Riku answered.
"I take it that you're from the Alola region, Riku?" Chaz asked.
"Yeah. I grew up there actually. That is until I started my own journey," Riku said.
"Yeah, Riku's from Alola, Kairi, Naminé, Ash, Leaf, and I came from Kanto, Ethan, Lyra, and Kris came from Johto, while Brendan, May, and Max are from right here in Hoenn," Sora said.
"But can anyone enter a Pokémon Contest?" Kairi asked.
"Sure can. You don't think it's too late to enter, is it?" Janet asked.
"Nah, but they should probably hurry," Chaz said.
Meanwhile, over to the Rustboro Hall, a young man, wearing a jester's outfit came to the reception desk. He wore a black and purple jester's outfit.
"I would like to enter this Pokémon Contest please," the jester said.
"Do you have an active contest pass?" The receptionist asked.
"I do," the jester said, using a magic trick, and showing it to her. "Here you go."
"Alright, I'll sign you in," the receptionist said as she typed in his information in a few seconds. "And done! You're all set."
"Thanks," the jester said, taking his pass.
A little while later, Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, May, Max, Janet, Chaz, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, Azurill, and Marill have arrived to the Rustboro Hall, and the receptionist informs them that there are no more spots opened.
"Huh? No spots left at all?" May asked, disappointed.
"We waited too long," Sora said.
"Why didn't we get here sooner?" May asked, feeling saddened.
"Perhaps you could issue them passes to just watch the contest?" Janet suggested.
"Yes, of course," the receptionist said, making passes for the group to watch the Contest. Janet then hands the group their contest passes.
"Now, you'll need those passes to enter the arena, so make sure you don't lose them," Janet said.
"Big bummer," May pouted. May wanted some alone time for a while, but Beautifly lands on May's head."Hey, sister! Find somewhere to sit on!"
"May? You okay?" Brendan asked.
"Just fine, thank you," May said in a sour tone.
"May, you're pouting," Brendan said.
"I'm not pouting," May denied.
"Yes you are. You always pouted when you didn't get what you wanted. Remember that one time when we were little when you wanted that last cookie?" Brendan asked. May turned to him with her expression comepletly changed.
"I remember when we both fought over it. But you broke it in half and you gave me the bigger half," May said.
"Well, I just like to see you smile. It suited you a whole lot more. Also, you'll have your part in a contest the next time," Brendan said. May smiled as she blushed. She shifted her eyes to her feet and back to her crush.
"Thanks Brendan. You're such a good friend," May said.
"Anytime, May," Brenden said, making his crush feel better. Brendan just liked to see May smile so much. Max looks at the pair with a teasing expression.
"Ohh, May has a crush on Brendan," Max said to himself as he chuckled. "May and Brendan, sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!"
Chaz is currently feeding his Venomoth some small multi-colored blocks.
"What's that you're feeding your Venomoth?" Sora asked.
"Just feeding some PokéBlock," Chaz said. "The colors depends on what kinds of berries you mixed in to make it. I made sure to add it to Venomoth's main diet along with some search Pokémon food." He hands Sora some. "Here. Just feed it to your Pikachu and you'll see." Sora holds it in front of Pikachu.
"Here Pikachu. Try it," Sora said, offering the PokéBlock to Pikachu. Pikachu tasted the blocks for the first time and he liked it right away. "Wow, you're right. Pikachu does like it."
"See? I told you," Chaz said. He sets his attention to Kairi. "I bet your Eevee will like to have some, too."
"Sure," Kairi said. Chaz hands a few to Kairi. "Here, Angel. Have some PokéBlock." She feeds Angel the PokéBlock to Angel. She eats it and she beamed at the taste.
"Eevee, vee!" Angel beamed.
Eevee, Azurill, Charizard, Typhlosion, Venusaur, Wani-Wani, Treecko, Torchic, and Marill each had some PokéBlock and liked the taste of it.
"Look at that. The Pokémon likes it," Naminé said.
"I am going to add these to our Pokémon's diet," Kairi said.
"I created my recipe for making the best Beautifly Pokéblock," Janet said.
"Wow! That explains it. That's probably why its wings are so beautiful!" Max said.
"And so shiny," Lyra said.
"Marill, Marill," Marill said. Beautifly soon starts to fly around Lyra, Max, and Marill. "Do you think she's mad at us?"
"No. She's just thanking you for the compliment. And I should really say thank you, too.
"Thanks for what?" Max asked.
Beautifly lands on May's head again.
"Yeah, what did he do?" May asked.
"It's so nice to hear someone praise the Pokémon that I train," Janet said.
"I know what you mean, Janet," Ash said.
"Yeah, that does feel good," Kris said.
"What trainer doesn't like to have a little bit of praise once in a while?" Leaf asked.
"It really makes you proud of all the hard work and energy you've put into the training," Chaz said.
"Oh," May said as she looks up and Beautifly. "I guess I could see that."
"Hey, are you guys gonna be heading over to Rustboro City for a Gym battle?" Chaz asked.
"Well, me, Brendan, and May are," Sora replied.
"Thought I should tell you that the Gym Leader there uses Rock-type Pokémon. Have you come up with a strategy to battle?" Chaz asked. Sora grinned as he remembered the first Gym he ever went to specialized with Rock-types. He had to consider the Gym Leader's search Pokémon were partly Ground-types as well since it's a common combination. So, he has Treecko, Mudkip, Seedot and Nincada since Grass,Water, and Ground-types are effective against Rock-types. He also has Barboach and Lotad since Barboach is a Water-type and a Ground-type, and Lotad is a Water-type and a Grass-type.
"I got plenty of Pokémon that has an edge over Rock-type Pokémon. Treecko, Mudkip, Seedot, Lotad, Nincada, and Barboach. Treecko, Lotad, and Seedot are Grass-types, Mudkip, Lotad, and Barboach are Water-types, Nincada and Barboach are Ground-types," Sora answered.
"That's a good plan, Sora," Ethan said.
"I agree. Sounds like you came in prepared," Chaz said.
"It's been like that for a while. The first Gym Leader I battled against used Rock-type Pokémon, too. So I had to teach Iron Tail to Pikachu since I figured the Gym Leader's Pokémon were also Ground-type Pokémon, too. His Geodude was one thing, but that Onix was a wrecking ball. Took out my Victreebel when he was just a Bellsprout at the time. And the way he handled his Onix was nothing to sneeze at," Sora said as he remembered his battle against Brock.
"Yeah, I know what you mean, Sora. I remember my first Gym battle like it was yesterday. Falkner handled his Hoothoot, Pidgey and Pidgeotto like he was handling a phoenix. Watching Sora battle out there is what got me fired up," Ethan said.
"Yeah, I would know. Kairi and I were there," Sora said.
"Yeah, and so were Kris and Lyra," Ethan said.
"Fair enough," Sora said.
It was now time for the Pokémon Contest to begin. Kairi along with Janet and Chaz as well as the rest of the coordinators. Announcing the contest is a young woman eith orange hair and blue eyes. She wore a dress that is a dark pink top and a lighter pink skirt. She also wore red pumps. She has a small mole on the left side of her face. She held a microphone to give the play-by-play.
"Welcome one and all! It is time for our annual Pokémon Contest to begin! To those who I am, my name is Vivian Meridian; the master of ceremonies of the Hoenn Pokémon Contests!" Vivian announced. The crowd cheered hard. "And now, may I present our panel of judges!" Vivian introduces the judges which consist of a middle-aged man with graying black hair, wearing a red suit, a short young man who is squinting his eyes and is wearing a shirt with a Pokéball logo and a young woman who has blonde hair and blue eyes. She wore a blue dress, and blue heels. "Beginning on my left is the Chief of the Pokémon Activities Committee, Raoul Contesta!" He smiled.
"Welcome everyone!" Mr. Contesta greeted.
"Going to the right is the president of the Pokémon Fan Club, Mr. Sukizo!" Vivian announced.
"I'm looking forward to a remarkable contest," Mr. Sukizo said.
"And not and certainly not least, our special guest judge for this contest is the winner of the Miss Hoenn beauty pagent three years in a row, Minerva Athena!" Vivan announced.
"Thank you very much, everyone! I'm just happy to be here!" Minerva Athena said with a smile.
"To all the newcomers to our contest, all trainers are allowed to use just one Pokémon! The coordinator and the Pokémon in use will be judged just by their performance! And whom ever shall make it to the semi-finals shall battle each other to move on to the final round and win this ribbon!" Vivian announced, holding up the ribbon, which is pink. "Any Coordinator who acquires all five ribbons from the various contests they enter in shall have the title of Top Coordinator! And they shall have the right to participate in the Hoenn region's Grand Festival located in Slateport City!" The crowd roars with excitement.
The contest went on as Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, Azurill, and Marill watched the Pokémon give it their all, some with good points and some with bad points. The jester who entered the Contest has done his performance with a Mr. Mime using Psychic as a juggling act.
It was now Chaz's turn. His Venomoth making good use of its psychic powers.
"This is incredible! Venomoth is giving a perfect display Confusion control!" Vivian announced. Venomoth uses its psychic powers to pour some tea in a teacup. When Chaz has finished his performance, the judges make their decision. 9.5, 10 and 10 for all three individual judges for a total near-perfect score of 29.5. "That's unbelievable! These are the highest points we've seen so far!"
"Our next contestant is entry number 17, let's hear it for Janet!" Vivian announced
The spotlight comes on above Janet and two of her assistants have entered the stage. They were holding plates in their arms. She took out her Pokéball and threw it.
"It's time, Beautifly!" Janet said as her Beautifly emerged with a small burst of sparkles. It captivates everyone. "Beautifly! Use Flash!" Beautifly performs the move, causing a dazzling display.
"So pretty!" Kris exclaimed in awe.
"Okay, plates away!" One of her assistants said, throwing the first plate. Both assistants threw the plates. Beautifly uses String Shot to smack and smash every one of the plates, creating a sparkling rain of debris.
"Beautifly is building on an elegant entry by demonstrating its String Shot, a move that uses a whipping motion to achieve results!" Vivian announced. The group are in shock while May and Max stand in the sparkling debris rain in amazement before Beautifly's wings stop glowing.
"Beautifly, Hidden Power!" Janet ordered. Beautifly creates sparkling rings around it before completely glowing and creating another sparkling rain, delighting the crowd as Beautifly lands on Janet's hand.
"And to finish, a beautiful landing in the Coordinator's hand! How many points will Beautifly get?" Vivian asked. The judges all give Beautifly 10 points, giving it a perfect score of 30. "And the judges all agree, Beautifly's performance deserves a perfect score!"
"Holy schnikes, that epic!" Sora exclaimed.
"Pikachu," Pikachu agreed.
"I'm with you, Sora. Pokémon just get more and more awesome!" May said.
"I now present, the finalists!" Vivian announced as she motions up to the scoreboard as the camera pans up to it, revealing the final four Coordinators, with Chaz and Janet being two of them.
"Look! It's gonna come down to Janet and Chaz!" Max said.
"They gotta win their battles first," Leaf said.
"She's right. This'll be a good learning experience," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"May, since you heard about Pokémon Contests, you mind filling us in about Contest battles?" Ethan asked.
"It's like this, Ethan. It's not all about strength and power in a contest battle, it's also about style, skill and making sure you have more points than your opponent," May explained.
"Points?" Ash asked.
"Each battle lasts five minutes and the object of the battle is to decrease the opponent's points. Coordinators lose points when their Pokémon are hit by an attack, when their Pokémon's attack fails, when the opponent's Pokémon performs a particularly appealing move, or when the opponent's Pokémon uses their Pokémon's attack to its own advantage," May explained.
"And you didn't need your own personal library for that," Riku joked.
"Riku!" Naminé admonished her boyfriend.
"Personal library?" Max asked.
"Cool it, Max, he was just kidding," Sora said.
"Just how did you know all that, May?" Lyra asked.
"I can answer that, Lyra. It was because we watched a Contest on TV one time at my house a few years ago. We managed to pick up on it pretty fast," Brendan said.
"That's amazing!" Kris said.
"I think the first one is about to start," Ash said.
They watched the Contest battles Chaz and Janet have been in, and they managed to win their battles, getting to the finals.
"Hope you're ready for some stiff competition," Janet said.
"I'm just ready to win," Chaz said.
"Good luck," Janet said.
"To victory!" Janet and Chaz exclaimed.
"Now, the Rustboro City Pokémon Contest has come to the exciting final battle stage! It's down to Janet and Chaz, who both showed extraordinary skills in the Appeals Round!" Vivian announced.
"Here we go," Sora said.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the final five minute Contest Battle will now begin!" Vivian announced as Janet and Chaz took out their Pokéballs. The timer starts running.
"Go, Venomoth!" Chaz called out, throwing his Pokéball.
"Go get em, Beautifly!" Janet called out.
Beautifly and Venomoth both emerged from inside their Pokéballs.
"Venomoth! Stun Spore!" Chaz ordered.
"Beautifly! Use Gust!" Janet ordered.
Venomoth sprinkled Stun Spore, but Beautifly's Gust blows the Stun Spore away.
"Look at that! Beautifly used Gust to blow away Venomoth's Stun Spore!" Vivian announced. Chaz's score lowers.
Beautifly, use Hidden Power! Beautifly launches her Hidden Power right at Venomoth.
"Fly up and dodge it!" Chaz called out. Venomoth flies to avoid Hidden Power, but the attack follows it up and nails the Poison Moth Pokémon on the spot.
"You could give up now if you want to!" Janet said.
"Like that would ever happen! Venomoth! Psybeam, go!" Chaz ordered. Venomoth fires Pdybeam and nails Beautifly, forcing her down.
"Oh no! Beautifly!" Janet gasped.
"Venomoth makes a clean hit with Psybeam!" Vivian announced.
"That doesn't mean that Chaz is gonna win, you know," Max said.
"That might be true, Max, but a Pokémon can still be taken down just like any regular Pokémon battle," Riku said.
"Beautifly, hang in there!" May called out.
"Beautifly! Morning Sun!" Janet ordered.
Beautifly starts to glow, then it levitates up as the sun shines down on it, amazing the crowd, and especially Kairi and May.
"Awesome," May said.
"So beautiful," Naminé said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Azurill," Azurill chirped.
The glow fades and Beautifly is revealed to have had its energy restored.
"Restoration? By way of Morning Sun? Wonder when it learned that move," Chaz said.
"Beautifly pulled off that Morning Sun to perfection! This is truly beautiful. Even the judges are astounded!" Vivian announced.
Chaz's points decrease as a result
"Chaz lost a lot of points! That was awesome!" Max exclaimed.
"I know. I wish I could enter a contest and battle just like Janet and Beautifly," May said. Kairi felt the same way.
The timer soon reaches one minute.
"Psybeam!" Chaz ordered.
"Hidden Power!" Janet ordered.
Both attacks collide and cause an explosion, resulting in both Trainers losing points.
"Looks like a tie!" Kairi said.
"Eevee!" Angel said.
"Beautifly! Flash!" Janet ordered.
"Venomoth! Confusion!" Chaz ordered.
Both Bug-type Pokémon prepare their attacks, but the timer runs out.
"The battle is over! Let's have a look at the scoreboard!" Vivian announced. The scoreboard shows Janet had the most points remaining. "Victory goes to Janet and her fabulous Beautifly!"
Janet giggles as Beautifly lands in her hand.
"Thank you, Beautifly!" Janet said.
Chaz approaches her with a smile.
"You were incredible," Chaz said.
"And you were, too," Janet said.
A little while later, Janet stands before Mr. Contesta, presenting her a Contest Ribbon.
"And now, Mr. Contesta will present our winner with the first place Rustboro Ribbon!" Vivian announced.
"Man, I can't help but think this is something Jessie would be into, and foul up quickly," Sora said.
"Who's Jessie?" May asked as she leaned over to Riku.
"It's a long story," Riku deadpanned.
After the Contest, the group meets up with Janet and Chaz.
"Congratulations for winning, Janet," May said.
"You gave it everything you got out there," Kairi said.
"Thank you, May, Kairi. That's very kind of you," Janet said.
"Watching you out there, I think I should try my hand in Pokémon Contests," Kairi announced. Everyone all looked at her.
"You're actually going to be a Pokémon Coordinator, Kairi?" Leaf asked.
"Yeah. After seeing how amazing it is, I decided to try my hand in Pokémon Contests since Sora has Gym battles. And the Grand Festival would be the first tournament I get into since the Poké Maiden Tournament back in the Johto region," Kairi said.
"If it means the world to you, Kairi, then I'm going to have your back in it, Kairi," Sora said. Kairi smiled.
"I know I have your support, Sora," Kairi said.
"He's not the only one. We will all support you, Kairi," Kris said.
"We got your back, 100%," Ash said. The rest of the group have let her know they'll support her.
"Thank you, everyone. I appreciate it very much," Kairi said.
"I think that's a great idea, Kairi. You'd be amazed where the world of Contests can take you. And you have my support as well," Janet said.
"Mine too, Kairi," Chaz said.
"You know what? I've decided that one day, I'm gonna enter a Contest, too! And earn my very own ribbon!" May said.
"Uh, May? Maybe you should worry about training for your first battle," Max reminded his sister.
"Oh, yeah. Perhaps," May sheepishly said.
"Anyway, Sora, Brendan, May, I'll wish you luck in your Gym battles," Chaz said.
"Thanks, Chaz," Brendan said.
"We'll do our best," Sora said.
"Speaking of which, I think we should train some more for our Gym battle," Brendan said.
"Good idea," Sora said.
"I think we can help you guys with that," Ash said.
Janet and Chaz said their goodbyes to Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, Azurill, and Marill as they took off to find a place to train. And with the announcement of Kairi being a Pokémon Coordinator, she has taken her own step. And more adventures are soon to come.
