Episode 224: All in a Day's Wurmple
After taking their leave of the Rustboro Hall, Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, Azurill, and Marill have went to the forest outside Rustboro City to get some training down.
"We should reach the main city as soon as we're finished training," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"I'm sure we'll find a good place. And we'll make a stop to make a meal for us later," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"That sounds like a good plan," Ash said.
Suddenly, as everyone walks on, something drops down upside-down in front of May's face.
What May saw was a Wurmple hanging upside-down in front of her, prompting her to scream before the creature dropped to the floor as the other look back to see a startled May.
"May, what's wrong?" Brendan asked, concerned.
"Something just dropped down right in front my face!" May exclaimed. She points to the Wurmple. "There is is over there!" Everyone all looked at the crawling Wurmple.
"It's only a Wurmple," Sora said.
"A Wurmple, huh?" Riku asked, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Wurmple, the Worm Pokémon
Type: Bug
Wurmple live primarily on leaves and sap from trees. The suction cups on its feet keep it from slipping.
Wurmple keeps on crawling into the bushes as Riku puts his Rotom Phone away.
"You know, I'm pretty sure that Wurmple evolve into a Silcoon and then into a Beautifly, right?" Max asked.
"That's right, Max," Kairi said.
"Well, mine became a Cascoon, so what kind of Pokemon am I going to end up with?" Sora asked.
"Well, since Wurmple also evolve into a Cascoon, you'll end up with a Dustox, Sora," Ash said.
"Cool," Sora said.
"That thing's gonna become a Beautifly? I guess once you get used to it, it is kind of cute. I know. I'll catch it!" May said, running after Wurmple. "Hey! Wait for me, Wurmple!"
"Uh-oh," Max said.
"We better go after her before something happens!" Kris said.
"Especially if there are Heartless, Nobodies, or Unversed around," Sora said.
The rest of the group agreed and went after May.
"Wurmple?" May called out.
"Wait up, May!" Brendan called out. She turned around and saw the rest of the group coming.
"You gotta slow down," Lyra said.
"Marill, Marill," Marill said.
"Yeah, what's the big rush?" Max asked.
"Pika, Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee, vee," Angel said.
"I just didn't want that Wurmple to get away," May said.
"I'm a little surprised that you have this thing for a Bug-type Pokémon like Wurmple, May," Ethan said.
"I know, but just think, if Wurmple's raised well, it'll evolve into a Beautifly," May said.
"I thought it has a lot to do with Janet's Beautifly," Leaf said.
"Of course. Remember how gorgeous Janet's Beautifly was?" May asked.
"How can we forget?" Naminé asked.
"May's right. Janet's Beautifly was absolutely gorgeous," Kris said.
"Someday I hope to enter a Pokémon Contest with a gorgeous Beautifly of my very own," May said.
"After seeing that Pokémon Contest back there, it's hard to blame you for wanting one," Brendan said.
"That really inspired you, didn't it, May?" Sora asked.
"Definitely. And for the next Contest, I'm gonna enter it and win a first place ribbon," May said.
"You know, there could be some other Pokémon living in the woods other than Wurmple, so it's a good idea to look around," Ethan said.
"Not a bad idea, Ethan," Ash agreed.
"But let's not forget there might be Heartless, Unversed, or Nobodies around here, so we gotta keep our eyes peeled," Lyra said.
"Lyra's right. We better keep our eyes opened," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"I'm gonna go catch that Wurmple. Bye!" May said, running off.
"Better go with her. Come on, Eevee," Riku said. Eevee followed his Trainer.
"I'm right behind you, Riku," Naminé said, following her boyfriend.
"Azu, Azu," Azurill chirped.
"Well, at least we know May will be in good hands," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"How about we all meet back here for some lunch?" Kairi suggested.
"Not a bad idea, Kairi," Kris said.
"But are you sure it's okay to leave May out there, even with those things out on the loose?" Brendan asked.
"Don't worry, as soon as she gets a little hungry, she'll come right back," Max said.
"Max has a point. We can all split up and see if we each catch some new Pokémon out here and meet back here when we're good and ready," Sora said.
"We can do that," Ash said. He looked at Brendan. "You'll have to come with me since you don't have a Keyblade to protect yourself against the Heartless."
"Okay," Brendan said.
"And Max, you'll have to stick with me and Kairi since May isn't here to do it," Sora said.
"Alright," Max said.
With that said, everyone all spread out to find a Pokémon to catch. Brendan went with Ash as Max went with Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel.
Sora and Kairi started to search around for any signs of Heartless, Nobodies, or Unversed as well as some wild Pokémon in the area. As they looked, they heard something rustling through the shrubs. It turns out to be a wild Skitty.
"Nya, nya, nya!" The Skitty meowed.
"Oh, look how cute she is!" Kairi cooed.
"It's a Skitty," Max said.
"Skitty, huh?" Kairi took out her Rotom Phone and scanned her.
Skitty, the Kitten Pokémon
Type: Normal
Skitty is known to chase around playfully after its own tail. In the wild, this Pokémon lives in holes in the trees of forests. It is very popular as a pet because of its adorable looks.
"Oh, I want this little cutie!" Kairi said.
"Go for it, Kairi," Sora said. Kairi turned to Angel.
"Go get her, Angel!" Kairi said. Angel nodded and stepped in. The Kitten Pokémon saw the female Eevee in front of her. Skitty starts up with a Tackle.
"Skitty's starting with a Tackle!" Max exclaimed.
"Angel! Dodge and use Quick Attack!" Kairi ordered. Angel dodged and rams into Skitty with a Quick Attack. Skitty then comes at Angel and gave her a hit with a Headbutt.
"That was Headbutt!" Sora said.
"Angel! You use Headbutt, too!" Kairi ordered. Angel rushed at Skitty and lands a hit with her own Headbutt. "Use Iron Tail!" Angel swung her tail, hitting Skitty on the mark. The Kitten Pokémon was down for the count. Kairi took out a Pokéball and threw it. Skitty flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "And I have a Skitty!"
"Eevee, vee!" Angel said.
"Good catch, Kairi," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu added.
"Thank you, Sora," Kairi said.
"Eevee, vee," Angel said.
"Shroomish!" A voice said.
"You say something, Max?" Sora asked.
"No," Max said. The Shroomish came out of the shrubs. This Shroomish was colored differently. This Shroomish this Shroomish is a lighter shade of beige and has orange spots and legs.
"It's a Shroomish!" Kairi said.
"Wait, that Shroomish is colored all wrong," Max said.
"That must be a Shiny Shroomish," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"I can bet you never saw a Shiny Shroomish before, Max?" Kairi asked.
"No. Which one of you is gonna catch it?" Max asked.
"Wanna give it a try, Sora?" Kairi asked.
"Why not? It's my turn anyway," Sora said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Torchic!" His Pokéball opened and Torchic came out to battle.
"Good thinking, Sora! A Fire-type is the obvious choice to use against a Grass-type like Shroomish!" Max said. The Shroomish attacks with a Stun Spore. "Shroomish is using Stun Spore!"
"Torchic! Dodge and use Ember!" Sora ordered. Torchic dodges Shroomish's Stun Spore and fired Ember at Shroomish, dealing some damage to it. Shroomish charges at Torchic with a Tackle.
"He's using Tackle!" Kairi gasped.
"Torchic! You use Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Torchic dashed at Shroomish, landing a hit. The Mushroom Pokémon then fired a seed from the top of his head.
"Shroomish is now using Leech Seed!" Max exclaimed.
"Dodge and use Ember!" Sora ordered. Torchic dodged and fired Ember at Shroomish, landing another hit. "Now, use Peck!" Torchic ran towards Shroomish and pecked him. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it. Shroomish flowed inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Sora's Pokémon Box goes off, asking if he wants to keep Shroomish with him. He chose to send Shroomish to Professor Oak's lab. "And I got myself a Shiny Shroomish!"
"Pi, Pikachu!" Pikachu said.
"Good job, Sora," Kairi said.
"Thanks," Sora said. She gave Sora a kiss on the cheek, blushing. Max just rolled her eyes.
Over to Ethan he looked around and he spotted a serpentine Pokémon that is usually depicted scrunched up like an accordion. It is mostly covered in black scales, but it has several markings on its body. It has yellow hexagon markings that run from its head to its tail, small yellow bumps where it touches the ground, and various purple scar-like marks. It has elongated red fangs that protrude from its upper jaw and fierce red eyes. Its tail is partially red and has a blade-like shape.
"Hey, who is that Pokémon?" Ethan asked, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Seviper, the Fang Snake Pokémon
Type: Poison
It sharpens its swordlike tail on hard rocks. It hides in tall grass and strikes unwary prey with venomous fangs.
"A Seviper, huh? So cool," Ethan said, taking out Typhlosion's Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Typhlosion!" His Pokéball opened and came out to battle. Seviper hissed and came at Typhlosion with its fangs emitting poison. "It's using Poison Fang! Typhlosion! Dodge and use Quick Attack!" Typhlosion dodges Seviper's Poison Fang. Typhlosion turned and rushed at Seviper, landing a hit. Seviper's blade-like tail gave off a purple glow and swung it at the Volcano Pokémon. Typhlosion was struck by the bladed tail. "That was Poison Tail. Typhlosion! Use Flame Charge!" Typhlosion charges at Seviper and lands a hit. Typhlosion's speed starts building up. Seviper came at Typhlosion with another Poison Tail, but Typhlosion dodged it thanks to his increased speed. "Use Flamethrower!" Typhlosion fired Flamethrower, hitting Seviper and engulfing it in flames. Ethan took out a Pokéball and threw it. Seviper flows inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Ethan picked up the Pokéball holding his newest Pokémon and smiled. "Typhlosion, you were awesome as always!" Typhlosion beamed and hi-five each other.
Over to Kris, she spotted a firefly-like, bipedal Pokémon. It has a blue face and large, slanted blue eyes with purple markings at the corners. The Pokémon closes its eyes. Surrounding its head are purple curls that frame its face. Its antennae are small and yellow. Its body is black with a blue belly and a yellow bid marking. Its arms and legs are black and are connected to the body by purple borders. It has small wings used for flying with others, and a pattern of three oblong yellow spots on its rear.
"Oh, how cute. Who's that Pokémon?" Kris asked, taking out her Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Illumise, the Firefly Pokémon
Type: Bug
Illumise attracts a swarm of Volbeat using a sweet fragrance. Once the Volbeat have gathered, this Pokémon leads the lit-up swarm in drawing geometric designs on the canvas of the night sky.
"Illumise? Such a cutie," Kris said. She took out Wani-Wani's Pokéball and threw it. "Come on out, Wani-Wani!" Her Pokéball opened and Wani-Wani came right out. Illumise woke up and saw the Feraligatr in front of it. Illumise was then alarmed by Wani-Wani's appearance. "Wani-Wani! Hydro Pump!" Wani-Wani spewed Hydro Pump, hitting Illumise on the mark. But the Firefly Pokémon unleashed Sweet Scent, making Wani-Wani's nostrils flare up with enchantment. "Snap out of it! Use Slash!" Wani-Wani shook his head and lands a Slash onto Illumise. Kris took out a Pokéball and threw it. Illumise flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "And I have an adorable little Illumise!" She tossed her Pokéball into the air and let her new Illumise out. "It's nice to meet you. My name's Kris."
"Mise," the Illumise said.
"You know, I think I'll call you Buttercup. You like that?" Kris asked. The Illumise beamed at the nickname.
"Mise!" Buttercup said.
Over to Lyra and Marill, they did some looking around and she spotted a Budew stepping out the hole of a tree.
"A Budew. How cute. Maybe I can catch one of my own," Lyra said. She took out a Pokéball and threw it. The Budew flowed inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "And I got myself a cute little Budew!"
"Marill, Marill!" Marill said.
Back to Ethan, he looked around for some more Pokémon to catch, and what caught his eyes is a new Pokémon up in a tree. It's firefly-like, bipedal Pokémon. Its body is black with a blue chest and abdomen. There are two yellow stripes across its front: one on its chest and one near its legs. A red band separates each limb from its body and a thicker, incomplete one surrounds its shoulders. Two simple wings extend from the band around its shoulder. It has a blue face with yellow eyes, and curly, yellow antennae with black stripes. It has a spherical yellow tail at the end.
"Who's that Pokémon?" Ethan asked, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Volbeat, the Firefly Pokémon
Type: Bug
With the arrival of night, Volbeat emits light from its tail. It communicates with others by adjusting the intensity and flashing of its light. This Pokémon is attracted by the sweet aroma of Illumise.
"Volbeat looks like a cool Pokémon, so why not?" Ethan asked himself. He took out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Wingull!" Ethan's Pokéball opened and a Wingull emerged from inside. Volbeat spotted the Seagull Pokémon flying at it. "Wingull! Use Supersonic!" Wingull unleashed a soundwave from its beak and ends up confusing the Firefly Pokémon. "Wingull! Use Water Gun!" Wingull fired Water Gun at Volbeat, landing a hit. "Now, use Wing Attack!" Wingull flew at Volbeat and lands a hit with Wing Attack. Volbeat lands on the ground as Ethan took out a Pokéball and threw it. Volbeat flowed inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "I got myself a Volbeat!" He went over to the Pokéball and picked it up. "And after I got myself a Seviper."
Over to Leaf, she hid behind a tree and she spotted a Plusle and a Minun. She took out two Pokéballs that are blue with wild yellow stripes and a misshapen triangle formation in the middle. These are Quick Balls. She threw them both at the unsuspecting Plusle and Minun. Stars swirls around the Quick Balls to confirm the catch. She went over to her Quick Balls and picked them up. She smiled.
"That was a great double catch," Leaf said. She looked in the direction she came. "I better find the others before something happens."
Meanwhile, Ash and Brendan are in the woods, searching for some Pokémon to catch.
"So, Brendan, have you given any thought to what is going to be your strategy for your Gym battle?" Ash asked.
"I thought of using Treecko, but I figured I could find another Grass-type or maybe a Water-type to back up my Treecko. I'm mostly following Sora's lead since he's using his Treecko and Mudkip," Brendan said.
"Sounds like a solid plan," Ash said.
"Anyway, if you're not competing in the Hoenn Pokémon League, why are you here?" Brendan asked.
"Okay, you know that me, Leaf, Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Ethan, Lyra, and Kris each have a Keyblade, right?" Ash asked.
"Yeah, what about it?" Ash asked.
"Okay, the reason we're here is to find others who might have the power to wield the Keyblade. We were told that we would be the guardians of something called Kingdom Hearts," Ash explained.
"What's Kingdom Hearts?" Brendan asked.
"To be honest, I don't know. But what I do know, we're going to need some help in protecting it from anyone or anything that has some nasty plans for it," Ash said.
"Someone like Organization XIII?" Brendan asked.
"Yeah. The Organization probably knows about it and they'll do what they can to stop us," Ash said.
"What are those guys afraid of? What did you ever do to them?" Ash asked.
"Well, they don't the hearts to be afraid," Ash said. He hears the sound of rustling and a Wurmple came right out. "Wurmple alert!" Brendan took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Taillow!" Brendan called out. Taillow came out to battle. "Use Peck!" Taillow lands a peck onto Wurmple. Brendan took out a Pokéball and threw it. The Worm Pokémon flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "There."
"You caught a Wurmple of your own?" Ash asked.
"Well, I figured I'd have one of my own since May's getting her own Wurmple," Brendan said. Ash nodded as he understood. He also knew how Brendan was comfortable when he mentioned May's name. They heard another rustling and out came Leaf.
"Hey guys," Leaf greeted.
"Leaf? You make any progress?" Ash asked.
"Well, I caught a Plusle and a Minun, but I came looking for you afterwards," Leaf said.
"We were going to come to meet up with you anyway," Ash said.
Over to Sora, Kairi, Max, Pikachu, and Angel, they made it back to the spot where they would meet up and that's when they spotted Ethan, Kris, Lyra, and Marill.
"Had any luck, guys?" Sora asked.
"I caught a Seviper and a Volbeat. How about you?" Ethan asked.
"I caught a Budew," Lyra said.
"Marill," Marill said.
"And I caught an adorable Illumise. And I'm calling her Buttercup," Kris said.
"What about you two?" Ethan asked.
"Well, if you must know, I caught a Shiny Shroomish," Sora said.
"And I caught a Skitty," Kairi said.
"Aren't May and the others back yet?" Max asked.
"They're probably still out there," Lyra said.
"Well, I could start cooking things up. I'm sure the smell will make them come running," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
Over to Riku, Naminé, May, Eevee, and Azurill, they continue their search for a Wurmple.
"You know, you didn't need to come along, Riku," May said.
"We did, because you'll never know when trouble will show up," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"I guess you're right. It'll be great to have some support, especially if you're friends with Sora and Kairi," May said.
"That's what friends are for, May. We help each other out," Naminé said.
"Azu, Azu," Azurill chirped.
This made May smile, feeling lucky to have good friends, even though she haven't known them for long. She stopped and spotted something
"Oh, wow!" May said with awe.
"Wow what?" Riku asked. Naminé smiled.
"I think I know," Naminé said. Riku turned and saw what the girls were looking at.
What Riku, Naminé, May, Pikachu, and Azurill saw was a group of six Bellossom dancing together.
"Those Bellosom sure can dance," May said.
"Bellosom are known to be good dancers," Naminé said.
"Azurill, rill," Azurill chirped.
Eevee's ears perked up. Eevee saw the Wurmple from earlier, so he alerts his Trainer.
"Eevee, vee!" Eevee said. Riku turned to his partner.
"What is it, Eevee? What do you hear?" Riku asked.
"Eevee!" Eevee said, pointing to the Wurmple. The girls saw the Wurmple crawling ahead of them.
"Wurmple!" Naminé said.
"Wait! Here I come!" May said, going after Wurmple.
"Wait for us, May!" Naminé said.
The couple followed May as she went after the Worm Pokémon.
Back with the group, Ash, Leaf, and Brendan came back as Kairi was about to get everything ready. Ethan's new Volbeat was getting well acquainted with Kris's new Illumise, Buttercup. The two of them were hitting it off very well.
"So how did you do?" Lyra asked.
"Would you believe I caught my own Wurmple, guys?" Brendan asked.
"Really? You caught a Wurmple of your own?" Max asked.
"Yeah. I mean, since May is getting one, it's only fair I have one, too," Brendan said. He looked around for Riku, Naminé, and May. "Speaking of which, where is May?"
"Still out there," Ethan said.
Back to Riku, Naminé, May, Eevee, and Azurill, they kept chasing after Wurmple.
"Stop right there, Wurmple!" May said.
"May, use your Torchic to battle it!" Riku said.
"Right!" May said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Torchic!" Her Pokéball opened and Torchic came right out. "Use Peck!" Torchic rushes at Wurmple and pecks it. May took out a Pokéball and threw it at Wurmple. The Worm Pokémon flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "Yes! I caught myself a Wurmple!"
"Great catch, May!" Naminé said.
"Now let's head back to the others. I'm sure they caught some Pokémon of their own by now," Riku said.
"Okay," May said as she called her Torchic back.
With that said, Riku, Naminé, May, Eevee, and Azurill started to head back to the rest of the group, just in time as Kairi has just gotten finished with the cooking some soup for everyone.
"See? What did I tell you? I told you she'll come back when she's hungry," Max said.
"How'd it go?" Sora asked.
"It went pretty well. Not a Heartless in sight," Riku said.
"Good to have a break for a change," Leaf said.
"You catch the Wurmple you wanted, May?" Brendan asked. May giggled.
"I sure did. I think I'll introduce you," May said. She took out her two Pokéballs. "Torchic, Wurmple. Lunchtime!"
Wurmple and Torchic emerged from inside.
"Torchic!" Torchic chirped.
"Wurmple. Wurmple!" Wurmple exclaimed as it began to eat quickly from bowl to bowl while Pikachu, Angel, Marill, and the other Pokémon just looked in surprise. Wurmple was also started eating the soup.
"Wow, she's got a healthy appetite," Kairi said.
"And we didn't even get a bite," Kris cried.
Wurmple soon finishes eating everything and then, satisfied with its meal, crawls over to May, yawns, curls up at May's feet and goes to sleep.
"Okay, so it eats all of our food and then just falls asleep," Max deadpanned.
"Guess it's a good thing that's it's so darn cute," May said, picking Wurmple up.
"Not nearly as cute as you, May," Brendan said in his thoughts.
"Well, what are we gonna do about lunch?" Ethan asked.
"Well, I can just whip up some grilled cheese sandwiches for all of us," Sora said.
"I second that," Leaf said, liking the idea.
"Me too!" Ash said.
Sora got started on making enough grilled cheese sandwiches for everyone as Kairi has prepared to make some extra Pokémon food for the Pokémon since May's new Wurmple ate all the food presented to them.
Now that May has caught her first Pokémon, Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, and May have a very hungry Wurmple for a new friend as they press onward to Rustboro City.
