Jo-Lan's Heroic Might
Chapter 2
Sorry this took a while to build but I needed to handle some personal matters and get back from an excavation. From here on though, the story will focus more on Izuku growing more and showing what he can do for the entrance exam. So on with the show.
(Izuku POV)
It's time. I've been training for years and now its time to show more of those results. I spent the ten months since I met All Might training more and more. Even helping a few new friends. The two I had saved from Katsuki had become somewhat quick friends of mine. The girl was Jiro Kyoka; she was the daughter of a professional musician, but she was looking to go into heroics. Her quirk was just right for it too. Her long earlobes ended in jacks that she could plug into anything. It not only allowed her to increase the range of her enhanced hearing, but it allowed her to unleash pulses of her heartbeat through them.
The boy was Aoyama Yuga and his quirk let him fire an intense laser from his navel. Though he needs to wear a special belt to channel the laser. He's a bit self-conscious about it as well as the fact that if he fired it for long periods of time, it hurt his stomach. "Well for each of you to make the most of your power you should probably look into support gear. I'm looking into some of my own. Namely getting a suit with some armor plating just to be safe. For Jiro, maybe a few types of speakers and listening enhancement equipment. Aoyama you probably just need to get gear that is like the belt you have….. then again you all could us some extra pieces that could help with….."
I feel a slight stab at my neck and that snaps me out of my rambling. "We'd been thinking about that anyway Mido. But you do make a point. I could use a few different pieces that could enhance my usual range," Jiro says with a chuckle. Aoyama nods behind her posing a bit. Yeah I have a habit of analyzing any quirks and abilities I see. I may be a martial artist, but I can't ignore the fact that there are probably plenty of quirks that can easily kill me if I'm not careful. So better to analyze them all and come up with a counter measure just in case. A few other teachers showed me that.
They had always been interested in the marital arts I had used to fight against Bakugo, but even though they practiced the movements they could never even feel the source. But it was enough for each of them to try learning some hand to hand to supplement their quirks. I proved this one day when I not only dodged their long-range attacks but showed how weak they really were against a close quarters strike. That and we all had a new set of training from an unusual teacher.
During the time I had been training with Manning-sifu, he had shown me some other ways to train. One of them was to use extreme sports and the like to help boost my balance and coordination. I didn't get it a first, but when a friend of his from the Australian branch of the Lee Conglomerate came to visit, she quickly showed me that all the martial arts or even quirk power in the world can still be trumped by technique.
The woman or rather teen was Raygan "Ray" Sharker, a somewhat cousin to my master. She had a deep tan and bright blonde hair and blue eyes and was about a head taller than I am. She often had a relaxed smile or similar look on her face that made me think she was never worried about a thing.
She was just a teen so she wasn't deeply connected with the LC but her father and grandfather were. She had been testing not just extreme sports gear (which helped to show off her impressive balance), but also underwater tech to help sea rescue heroes. While plenty of heroes had quirks that made them like undersea animals, like Selkie or Gang Orca, they were still limited in what they could do in certain situations. Her using the gear showed that anyone could operate with them in undersea operations. Even fighting alongside the heroes. After all, she didn't have a quirk as well.
But what she did to me, and to Kyoka and Yuga, was knock each of us around and down like it was nothing. She dodged each of the hits we went for and made it look like it was nothing more than a game. Maybe it was to her. She taught each of us a few different things after that. I focused on skateboarding, highspeed roller blading and a bit of surfing to help with my balance. Jiro also learned to surf after Ray got her some special gear for ears. "This should help you with not just preventing water in the ear, but it'll let you use those jacks of yours underwater. Don't think about it too much there love. Now let's stop faffing around and get ready to ride into the barrel."
Okay even though we both know English I know we both can't follow what Ray is saying half the time. Must be an Australian thing. But Kyoka was more than happy to have the gear and to swim without worry. Yuga though was interested in things like using jetwings as well as skateboarding a bit. Though he had a very bad habit of showing off at the wrong times. "I need to think of a few things to enhance my armor and the piece that lets me fire my laser if I'm going to learn anymore about this," he said one day after training.
Once we had talked more, we were all planning to apply for the UA hero course and we were set for proving that we could be the best heroes possible. Now standing in front of UA for the exam, my heart is filling up with excitement at the challenge and chance before me. "So you are here Deku. Let's see what those martial arts of yours can really amount to." I hear Katsuki say behind me.
He may have backed off on attacking or putting me down. But he's still a belligerent person. I doubt that will change unless he gets a real dose of humility thrown his way. And even then, he still would be likely to try and brag up on how he's better than anyone else.
But that isn't my problem. For now, I and everyone else here have one goal: pass the UA entrance exam. But as I'm walking toward the doors, I see a girl slip on the steps. I don't know how I got next to her. Guess my body moved on its own again. Because I'm catching her and helping her up before I even know it. Though I did get a handful of something I wasn't expecting to.
(No POV)
After Izuku had rushed up to help the girl he saw falling, he caught her by grabbing onto her chest with one hand. The other wrapped around her waist to steady her. Though both were blushing, Izuku managed to get out, "are you okay?"
"I am. Thanks but could you please let go now?" the brown-haired girl said with a bright blush. Izuku panicked a bit before profusely apologizing. The girl shakes her head before saying, "I know you were trying to help me. But I probably would have been okay. My quirk lets me remove gravity from objects." "Whoa that's so cool. Yeah I just kinda….. well my body just moved on its own. I didn't even realize I was catching you until I was right there," Izuku says with a lopsided grin.
"It wouldn't be the first time he's done something like that," the two teens hear behind themselves. The look down and Jiro is walking up behind them with a teasing smile on her face. She wants to tease Izuku some more, but she instead points out that they should get moving. "The test isn't going to take itself," Jiro says as she is pushing the two. But behind them she is blushing a bit.
Once they were all inside, they head for the auditorium for the written exam. It was relatively easy given Izuku was still one of the top students in his year. Once that was done though, it was time for the practical exam. And for each of the students to show what they could do with their quirks and other skills.
Izuku though is thinking about a few other things as Present Mic is explaining the challenge. 'It might have just been an all-around boost granted from my Jo-Lan training. Sifu did mention that the source of Jo-Lan was a linking of mind body and spirit. That might be how I caught that girl so quickly.' "You there! Are you taking this seriously or not?!" Izuku hears as he is mulling over things.
He just looks up and around and sees most people looking toward him. The one who called out to him was a blue haired boy with glasses and a severe look on his face. "I'm sorry what was that. I was thinking over a few things to do during the practical," Izuku says with non plussed look on his face. The tall boy seems surprised but recovers with a cough before apologizing to Izuku. "I thought you were making light of this exam, but I guess you were just hyper focused. Just what an applicant for this school should have! Pardon my interruption. To you as well Present Mic sir!"
Mic waves off the blue haired teen's statements and explains more about the fourth type of enemy. It was just described as an obstacle and that it wouldn't net any of the applicants any points. Izuku hums a bit at that statement before nodding and looking down again at his card pointing him to battleground two. With Present Mic announcing for each of the applicants to break a leg out there, the students get up to leave. As Bakugo was going a different direction he quietly says to Izuku, "good luck. Though I doubt you'll need it."
Izuku says the same to Bakugo and heads for his battleground. He is surprised to see Aoyama there, but they quickly shake hands before admitting to each other there will be no hard feelings during the exam. "If I happen to blast a villain you are aiming for before you, no hard feelings. And if you catch one that I can't blast first, no hard feelings. Best of luck mon ami." Izuku nods to his friend before giving a quick good luck to the brown-haired girl he saved earlier.
He then takes off his uniform and underneath is a special gi Tyrone had made for him. While most can tell it fits well, the material also allows for ease of movement and upper half can come down if needed. On his feet, he has tabi styled shoes under his red tennis shoes. The gi is also in the blue, white and orange colors of Jo-Lan. As he is standing there, waiting for the doors to open, Izuku is breathing deep and getting in touch with the source of Jo-Lan.
And when the doors open, Izuku's eyes flash white and he runs forward. At the first one-point robot he sees, he brings his fist to his side before dodging the robot's strike. He then uppercuts it. Calling out, "Jo-Lan Ryuuseiken!" and blasting the robot apart. After the hit he rushes as fast as he can unleashing strikes like the Uzumaki Jo-Lan kick and the Chobatsu, to as many robots as he can.
He even deactivates a few by taking advantage of the balance and agility that Ray had taken the time to teach him. He noticed a few had hidden buttons to turn the robots on and off and would go for that. Yuga was more for just sticking to blasting robots, but he also made use of the dexterity that Izuku and Ray had shown him. Dodging around a few strikes before getting a blast off. The two even went back-to-back at one point to blast about 15 points each.
"That is an interesting pair there. I thought we separated those who were from the same schools," a judge said as they were observing the practical exams. "We did. Those two didn't got to the same school. I guess they were friends outside of classes. But it does show that they can work quickly with each other. This other girl might have trained with them as well." At saying that another judge points to a screen where Jiro is shown using similar dodging skills to Izuku and Aoyama.
A rodent bear like creature hums before saying, "they could have trained together. The skills seem similar enough." "No doubt about it Principal Nezu. I know the green haired boy. He was trained by a reliable friend of mine: Tyrone Manning." The one who said that was none other than All Might. At hearing the name Manning, a few of the other heroes sweat dropped and had wide eyes. They all knew how monstrous the man was when it came to martial arts, and the fact he had made multiple heroes look pathetic made them all sweat.
But to hear he had a student? That was just a different level of worry. Nezu was quite interested as well and was ready to reveal the last test for the students. And he was quite interested to see how a student of Jo-Lan would handle the threat they put out for the students. He leaned down and pushed the big red button to release the zero-point robot.
After about eight minutes, Izuku had racked up about 50 points was confident about where he stood with the rankings. When he felt a rumbling under his feet. He turned and saw a massive robot barreling towards himself and the rest of the examinees. Everyone was running away to keep from getting crushed by either the robot itself, or the debris it was launching. Izuku though notices something else.
He looks toward the debris that had fallen and sees the girl he had helped before. She is trapped under some of what the robot had knocked down. He then started to run again without thinking. He caught himself a bit though and grabbed Yuga as he was running. "Izuku! Are you CRAZY!? Why are we going toward that monster!?" "Get ready to get the girl out of here Aoyama! I'll handle the villain!" Izuku shouts as they got close.
He quickly blasted the rubble away before handing the girl to Aoyama. "Get going!" Izuku said before facing back toward the robot. Aoyama grit his teeth before putting the girl over his shoulder and blasting himself backward with his laser. The blast did a bit of damage to the robot's tred but not much. Izuku took a deep breath, tapping the source as deep as he could for now. He brought his hands next to his side, and as the robot was going to punch him, the green haired boy's eyes shot open.
He unleashed the strongest Chobatsu he could on the robot's hand. And vaporized it. He then coiled up leaping with all of his strength to unleash the Ryuuseiken to the head of the robot. Before finishing with a spinning Uzumaki kick to slice the side of the robot. Landing with the upper half of his gi dropped around his waist.
The rest of the applicants were stunned, though Aoyama was breathing a deep sigh of relief. The rest though were amazed as Izuku was walking back. They could see the impressively chiseled form of the teen. A near lifetime of training, and some sports training as well, had sculpted Izuku into an impressive specimen. To the point a few of the boy teens felt both jealous and some a bit attracted. And many of the female applicants were looking at him with a touch of arousal. Especially a pink cheeked brunette.
"Don't scare me like that again mon ami," Aoyama said after setting the brown-haired girl down. Izuku just put his hand on his friend's shoulder before asking the girl if she was hurt. The girl blushed deeper at seeing Izuku up close before saying she was fine. "And so are you." "What was that?" Izuku asked with a raised eyebrow. The girl sputtered before saying thank you. "My name is Uraraka Ochaco by the way. What was your name? Ah. Same to you…. The guy with the belt."
Aoyama was quick to pose a bit before saying his name and bragging a bit about his quirk. Izuku just smiled while putting his gi top back on. "I'm Midoriya Izuku. And contrary to what you all might think, I don't actually have a quirk. That was just martial arts." At hearing that all of the applicants are stunned. But a new voice calls out that brings them slightly out of their stupor. "Yes indeed. Given you've been trained by the best it is no surprise that you can unleash that."
The person who said this was the Youthful Heroine: Recovery Girl. She was walking in and then asked a few to step aside while she healed Ochaco. "Well, that is it for the exam. All of you good luck. And as for you young man, I see great things in your future," Recovery Girl says with a smile. Izuku returns it and offers to walk Ochaco and Aoyama out. Both agree and they talk for a while with the exam done. Izuku thinks to himself as they are walking away, 'I don't care if that bot didn't net me any points. I knew it had to be stopped, and I knew I had to save her no matter what. And I am proud of what I did here today.'
So for the fans of the ATOM they may have noticed that I used the Ryuuseiken even though the wiki claims that it was a season 2 technique. But I know it had been used before then. Besides the term Toraken fits more given the tiger sounds as Axel is unleashing that punch. Izuku won't be focused on extreme sports compared to the original team, but he could see them as a good base for improving his skills. I'll add a few more teacher and trainers that could be added from the old team. Also, I've put the idea together that Tyrone is the grandson of Axel. Not his son. While Ray is the great granddaughter of Shark. Any way please review.
