Jo-Lan's Heroic Might
Chapter 3
Okay so this will be a bit strange given the power of Jo-Lan is used in bursts. But given how I have Izuku at an impressive level of physical capability already it should be fine. So now it is time for the first days at UA. On with the show.
(No POV)
Izuku gathered up his backpack and other gear before looking over his UA uniform. "Izuku! Do you have everything ready?" Inko said with a smile. Izuku returns it with a smile of his own before picking up his skateboard. "Yeah mom. I think I've got everything. Even a few things Sifu sent over from LI."
"Good to hear son. This is a big day after all." Hisashi says while handing Izuku a lunch of katsudon for later. Izuku accepts it happily before saying he would be going. But his parents catch him before he goes. "Hey Izuku… you look really cool honey/son." Izuku's smile widens and he thanks his parents again. Along the way, Izuku bumps into Aoyama and Jiro. The former has his skateboard, while the latter has a pair of quick deploy rollerblades.
So with a challenging smile, Izuku proposes a race to UA campus with their gear. His two friends are happy to accept, and they board and skate their way over the sidewalks to the UA campus. Izuku had the lead for a while, but Aoyama quickly pushed himself ahead with a short burst from his quirk. "Hey! Not cool man!" Jiro and Izuku shout while trying to catch up with the blonde boy.
Aoyama arrives first with Izuku coming in a close second. Jiro grumbled as she took her blades off. "I gotta find some way to boost my speed. Yuga's got the whole energy shots to give him some thrust. Izu, you've been training your whole life, so you have stronger legs. Me. I've got extendable jacks I can plug into things and hear long distances or unleash a soundwave pulse from." "You'll catch up mon ami. It just might take time." Yuga says to Jiro with a smile.
She reciprocates as the three walk up to the main building of UA high. They were all happy to be accepted into class 1-A, with Manning happily paying for a celebratory meal for all the families after the news was passed down. Especially with the announcement that Izuku had racked up over 100 points due to the rescue of Ochaco during the practical. Putting Izuku as the top scoring applicant for UA this year. With Jiro and Aoyama each getting very high marks as well.
But at UA, Izuku had to deal with a different issue. "What are you doing there!? Are you disrespecting the very institute that has raised so many great heroes!?" "Oh shut up you stiff piece of shit! Who the hell do you think you are telling me what to do?!" He unfortunately had two troublesome people to deal with. While he expected Katsuki due to their homeroom teacher at Aldera calling them in to congratulate the pair, the other guy he didn't pay to close attention on.
At least not until the tall teen ran up to him. "I am Ida Tenya from Soumei Private Academy. I have to ask: you understood a hidden element to the practical, yes?" "Huh? What are you talking about?" Izuku responded while leaning back from Ida. Aoyama had his head tilted to the side in confusion. While Jiro puts a hand on Ida's shoulder before saying, "okay ease up a bit pal. Izu told us about this, but he just was trying to save the others in his exam site."
"Yeah I didn't have a clue about the rescue points. I was just trying to save whoever I could with my skills." Izuku said with a relaxed smile. "You weren't the only one who saved me though. And I really do owe you both for saving me." The trio hear behind them. They turn and see the pink cheeked girl from Izuku and Aoyama's exam site.
The boys just smile before saying she was welcome. Though Aoyama was posing and spouting a bit of French while saying it. Jiro decides to introduce herself next. "I only heard a bit about you after the exams. Ochaco right? I'm Jiro Kyoka." The earphone jack girl says with a bit of a wave to Ochaco. The girl reciprocates before wondering what orientation could be like at the top hero school in the country.
"If you are just here to make friends I suggest you go elsewhere." The teens hear from the hallway. They look around and see…. A big yellow caterpillar with a man's face. "Okay…. Normally I'd be asking a lot of questions. But I get the feeling you're our teacher, aren't you?" Izuku said with a bemused face. The caterpillar smiled before agreeing with the green teen. After he got out of his sleeping bag, he introduced himself as Aizawa Shouta.
"I'll be your homeroom teacher for this year. Now then. Gather up the PE uniforms in your desks and meet me at the phys ed grounds." Aizawa said with a direct tone. None of the teens had a clue what was going on, but they went along with the man who said he was their teacher. "Izuku. Mon ami I think this might be a case of-" "Him testing us, right? To make sure we can fit the expectations he has for heroes." Aoyama started, but it was Jiro who finished the thought.
She then compared it to some of the ways Manning and Ray would test them when they were learning new sports or techniques. "Ray could tell right away that you while you were interested in learning to surf….. you weren't really meant to learn it, Yuga." Jiro said as they were all walking to the locker rooms. Aoyama just turns away with a bit of a pout. While muttering to himself "I can swim just fine. I mean I know I'm not a strong swimmer, I can do more of a doggy paddle but still." Izuku just snorts at his two friends' interactions before saying they would each have to show their best.
'Including me. I don't know how my Jo Lan skills and techniques can apply…. But I might have a few ideas.' Izuku thinks to himself while changing in the locker room. When they all arrive at the PE grounds, Aizawa looks over the teens with a nod. "Alright. Today we'll be having a quirk assessment test. You'll be taking the standard physical exam tests today. But with a caveat. Midoriya. Do you mind demonstrating?"
Izuku walks up and hums before Aizawa tosses him a softball. "I want you to do the softball throw. But you'll be using your quirk to its maximum." Izuku just smiles a bit before laughing. When he stops laughing, he asks Aizawa, "you do know I don't actually have a quirk right? It's just my training." Aizawa's eyes widen a bit before asking his own question.
"Then how did you defeat the zero pointer? That is impossible without a quirk of some kind." "You're wrong. But you like most are too caught up in thinking quirks are everything. I used to believe that. Until my sifu showed me otherwise." Izuku says with a challenging smirk. He tosses the ball up a few times before asking to do the test 3 times. Aizawa is a bit confused but agrees. Izuku tossed the ball up high, and while it was in the air he centered himself.
Right as it was coming down, Izuku leapt with all the power he could from the Source of Jo Lan. "Uzumaki! Jo Lan Kick!" the boy shouted while kicking the softball with all of his might. A few others observing feel a pulse as the ball is sent flying. While Izuku lands with a stylish flip back to the ground. Aizawa just says, "huh." Before checking the monitoring device.
It cam back with 710 meters even. Izuku then asked for another ball and performed his other techniques to send the ball flying. "Jo Lan Ryuseken!" Izuku shouted before punching the ball with all his might. The score that came back was 700 meters. "Need to work on that one a bit more." Izuku says before asking for one more ball.
Aizawa agrees with a look that says he is very intrigued by this strange scenario in front of him. He had tried to cancel out Izuku's attacks with his own quirk Erasure, but it failed again and again. Now Izuku was preparing to use the same technique he used to defeat the zero pointer. With one more toss into the air, Izuku shifts his feet and brings his palms to his side.
"Jo Lan Chobatsu!" Izuku shouts before thrusting his palms forward right as the ball was in line with him. Right as it impacts, all of the audience can feel the shockwaves coming off as he hits the ball. The score that comes back shows 715 meters, demonstrating this was his strongest technique at the moment.
This shocks most everyone as they couldn't believe Izuku was doing all of this with no quirk. Two though aren't surprised, and comment on the matter. "Yeah, it shocked me the first time I saw him practicing with his teacher. Dude was built and could cause a shockwave equal to All Might. With one hand!" "Oui. And he definitely didn't have a quirk either. Makes you wonder what the point to them are. If people can fight like these two." This impresses everyone while Aizawa is curious about who it was who trained the boy.
Bakugo meanwhile is trembling in rage. 'I knew he knocked me back, but I figured he just caught me off guard! Instead, he's got this weird set of skills from martial arts or something?!' Bakugo thought with small explosions going off in his hand. He twitches a bit more, and then charges at Izuku. Right as he is shouting "DEKU!" Aizawa uses his quirk on Bakugo before wrapping the ash blonde up in his capture cloth.
"Don't even think about it. If you can't accept it, then you don't belong here. Though I am curious who trained you." "My sifu was Tyrone Manning." Izuku says while holding his stance. He had been prepared to counter Bakugo's attack and had charged up his Jo Lan in his fist. Aizawa though is wider eyed than before. "THE Tyrone Manning?! The same guy who has stomped multiple pro heroes with nothing but martial arts skill alone? The one who put Mirko, Ryukyu, Hawks, and Endeavor into the ground in a few ways?!"
"Well I didn't know all of that, but yeah. He's the one who taught me Jo Lan." Izuku said nonchalantly. Each of the students was shocked. Not just by how relaxed Izuku was about what was said. But also about the fact that some of the top heroes in the nation had been defeated by a quirkless person. One of the students in attendance remembered some of that, and what it meant for him.
Todoroki Shoto remembered one day his father having been taken to the hospital. With multiple broken bones and an unrecognizable face. It took Recovery Girl nearly two weeks to get his father back on his feet. It was one of the only periods he could spend time with his siblings. And when his father had returned, he didn't train Shoto quite as hard for a time. Instead, he focused on trying to get stronger himself. Muttering, "I can't let this stand. I won't!"
'Guess that answers what happened to him.' Shoto thinks while looking over Izuku. Once Aizawa had shaken out of his shock, he warned Bakugo back down. "Or you will be expelled. Crap I lost my train of thought… oh right! Anyway, you will all be using your quirks to their maximum in the standard physical tests. But before you all go getting happy, I have a warning for you all. The student who comes in last, will be expelled."
Before the rest could comment on the unfairness of the situation, Izuku decided to speak his own mind. "Its not like you can change a disaster just because it would be unfair to have it happen in an area. You can't always talk down a rampaging villain. And you can't change the fact that some people will look down on or push others around just because of their quirk, or if they don't have one of their own. But our job and training as heroes going forward is to make it to where we can tip the scales to save others." Aizawa looks to the boy before nodding. As well as apologizing for what he likely had to deal with due to his quirkless nature.
He then turns to the rest to tell each of them to do their best in the test ahead if they intend to be heroes. "Welcome to the UA hero course." Aizawa says with a twisted smile. The rest of the teens gulp before focusing on the task at hand. Izuku meanwhile hardens his resolve to show what he can do with all of the skills he has learned from his teachers.
During the 50 meter dash, Izuku came in at 5.5 seconds. Slower than Bakugo who was quick to brag about that. But said explosive blonde was knocked down a peg when his softball toss came back with 695 meters. Especially when Ochaco removed the gravity of the ball and scored infinity.
Izuku surprised a few though with his creative uses of his Jo Lan techniques. For the long jump, he leapt as far as he could before blasting toward the ground with a Chobatsu. The resulting shockwave sent the teen into the air far beyond the sand pit. Though it did scatter the sand over most of his classmates. "Not cool Izu!" Jiro shouted while trying to get the sand out of her shirt and ears.
For many of the other tests, Izuku dominated as well. He had been physically training all of his life so tests like the sit ups, distance run, and side steps were of little issue for him. Grip strength he struggled a bit due to his source of Jo Lan being better for bursts. 'At least for now. Sifu did mention that it would improve over time. And with the right conditions.' Izuku thinks while watching over the others
When it comes time to tally the results, the top student was Yaoyorozu Momo. With Todoroki coming in at second. Ida was sitting at third and at fourth place was Izuku. And just below him was Bakugo. The explosive teen was fuming at his position. Constantly thinking that there was no way Izuku could have passed him so easily.
Sitting at the bottom though, is the shortest member of class 1-A. Minoru Mineta. The purple headed teen was looking at the screen in sadness before looking down at his feet. A few tears build up in the student's eyes while he stared at the ground. "Mineta…. Look up here." Aizawa said with a firm tone.
Mineta did just that while he gripped his fists tight, with tears streaming down his face. "I want you to come with me. As for the rest of you, take this as a lesson. This is where you are with your quirks right now. We will be improving this over your time here at UA. Head back to the classroom to pick up your handbooks." As Aizawa and Mineta are walking away, a few of the members of class 1-A feel bad for the short student.
Though Bakugo just laughs before commenting, "guess that shows where the worthless ones need to go." This makes Mineta cry a bit more and infuriates Aizawa. He quickly wraps up Bakugo and cancels out his quirk with his own. "Think its funny huh? Well guess what: you're done. You are no longer a student of class 1-A. Or even of UA. You are expelled." Aizawa says with finality. He then tells Mineta to head to the teachers' lounge, while he talks to Nezu.
He drags Bakugo with him to Nezu's office. While there, the ash blonde brat needs to be restrained by Aizawa and the teacher of class 1-B Vlad King. Upon hearing what Bakugo had said, as well as his actions to Izuku Nezu is more than happy to approve of Bakugo being expelled from UA. "Don't think this is just because of your actions today. We have the details of your actions at Aldera. Attempted assaults on Midoriya, bullying and abuse of other students in your class. The teachers may have tried to downplay it or cover it up….. But we have ways of finding out these things. You will NEVER graduate from UA. I can you assure you that young man."
With Nezu's piece said, Bakugo is given his backpack and has his student id taken away. Aizawa and Vlad King then walk the ash blonde out past the UA barrier. His first day at UA was his last. Right as Bakugo tries to get back in, the gates slam shut. Proving to him, that he had been removed from UA entirely.
Back with Mineta though, Aizawa meets with the boy and tells him that he will not be expelled. "It was to make you experience death. In a sense anyway. You put out as best you could with your quirk. So, you will not be expelled from UA." Aizawa said with a small smile.
Mineta couldn't believe his luck. Especially after the third highest scoring student had been expelled. "But what about Bakugo? I mean he…" "He has potential. But I'm not one for a hero who only thinks of bringing others down. We've already got enough problems to deal with from the rest of your classmates, let alone Endeavor's bad reputation." Aizawa says the last piece under his breath. Mineta nods before thanking his teacher and heading back to the classroom.
Aizawa though leans back and thinks more about the fact that he now has a student of one of the most powerful martial artists in his classroom. "This could be trouble going forward. But….. It could also be interesting." Aizawa thinks aloud while looking over Izuku's file.
So, I won't deny this isn't my best. But I wanted to set up a few things going forward. Least of all is really putting the screws to Bakugo. I know he's a fan favorite, but I feel this is something he's deserved more often than not. Which is why he's been removed from multiple fics of mine. And I know there is a bit of an exposition dump related to Manning, but it felt right for what I've built so far. Please review.
