Episode 233: Gone Corphishin'

It was the very next morning as Sora and Kairi had gotten up early to catch the sunrise. May and Max were still asleep in the tent they were sharing with the couple. Sora was a tad drowsy, but he did his best to stay awake to see it.

"Such a beautiful sunrise, Sora," Kairi said.

"It sure is," Sora agreed, putting his arm around her shoulder. "It was totally worth getting up early. Just as long I get to watch the sunrise with you, Kairi." Kairi giggled as she rested her head on his shoulder.

"I was worried about you sleeping through it. Then again, you're always cute when you're asleep; just like in your baby pictures," Kairi gushed, making Sora blush.

"Hey now, Kairi," Sora said, feeling embarrassed. She laughs.

"Got you riled up," Kairi said.

"Wasn't fair," Sora pouted.

"Just wanted to ruffle your feathers," Kairi said. The couple both shared a laugh as Pikachu, Angel, and the other Pokémon were sleeping. Pikachu, Angel, Plusle, and Minun woke up and went up to their Trainers as Sora had patted Pikachu and Kairi had cuddled Plusle and Minun. "Kinda wish those two Pichu were still with us. Plusle and Minun would have been such big sisters for them."

"Yeah, they would have. They would love those little tykes just as much as your mom does," Sora said. He then starts laughing.

"What's so funny?" Kairi asked.

"Just thinking about how your mom would have them dressed in little sailor outfits. And then have them in a picture with Seth in the same sailor outfit. They would be a pair of Donald Ducks," Sora said as he and Kairi had both laughed.

"And at the same time, it'll be cute. I don't doubt my mom is probably doing that right now," Kairi said, laughing.

"Yeah. Karen and my mom would both be busting a button over how cute it was," Sora said. Just then, Kairi's Rotom Phone starts going off. She saw it was her parents calling her.

"Hold on, Sora. It's my parents," Kairi said as she answered her phone. "Hi, mom or dad."

"It's your mother, Kairi. How are you? And where are you?" Mirei asked.

"Sora and I are on Dewford Island along with a Trainer named May and her little brother Max. Sora and I decided to do some training before we do anything else. Also, we got caught some Hoenn Pokémon, too," Kairi said.

"How wonderful. Professor Oak has informed me that your boyfriend won his first Gym Badge from the Gym Leader. What else is going on?" Mirei asked.

"Well, mom, I decided to partake into some Pokémon Contests here in the Hoenn region," Kairi said.

"How wonderful! I always knew you were going to be a Pokémon Coordinator one day. You had that potential, Kairi," Mirei said.

"I'm glad I have your support, mom," Kairi said.

"I'll always support you, honey. The same goes to your father, your brother, and your grandma," Mirei said.

"Speaking of which, how is Seth doing?" Kairi asked, getting giddy.

"He's doing good. He's probably waking up right now. I'll send him your love," Mirei said. This made Kairi smile.

"Thanks, mom," Kairi said.

"Anytime, honey. Good luck with your Pokémon Contests, Kairi. Love you," Mirei said.

"Love you, too. Bye, mom," Kairi said.

Elsewhere on the beach, a couple were camping out on the beach.

"Man, this is the life, huh babe?" The young man asked.

"Uh-huh. Nothing beats a beach camp out. It's a good way to get an all-over tan," the young woman said already in her bikini, laying on her lounge chair.

"It's kinda early for it, don't you think?" The young man asked.

"It's never too early. Besides, isn't it worth it just to see me in my swimsuit?" The young woman asked in a seductive tone. He didn't answer. Just seeing her there was enough to make his blood run. She giggles as she waved her feet in the air. "Thought so." Just then, the same mysterious creature tunnels its way through the ocean and right through the sand. The young woman screams as the lounge chair is knocked over. "What the hell was that?!"

"I don't know! Are you alright?" The young man asked. She was about to answer when the mystrious creature makes its way back towards them. They scream as they ran for their lives. The creature continues to burrow underground and patrols the beach.

Back to the camp, May is brushing her teeth as Kairi and Max are hanging up their laundry. Sora, Pikachu, Taillow, Torchic, Treecko, Mudkip, Zigzagoon, Poochyena, Seedot, Cascoon, Whismur, Lotad, and Makuhita were meditating.

"Okay guys. Concentrate. Brawly has trained his Makuhita through surfing. Just using a Flying-type attack alone won't be enough, because he may have found another way around it. So we'll use another method. When you feel the waves pressing against you, think of it as your opponent. Keep that focus until you feel the motion with your skin," Sora instructed. All of the Pokémon nodded.

"Wow, Max. Hear that? Is that Pokémon training Sora is talking about?" May asked.

"He's super serious about getting that second badge," Max said.

"Wind!" Kairi shouted, casting her aero spell.

"That's an awesome use of magic, Kairi," Max said.

"Who needs a dryer when you have wind magic?" Kairi asked as she giggled.

"Well, from here, what Sora's doing doesn't look like training, looks more like sitting around doing nothing," May said.

"Yeah, well, now that you mention it..." Max said.

"No, he's training," Kairi said. The siblings turned to her.

"Really?" May asked.

"That's right. This is one of the assignments my master gave him. He's not just training his Pokémon, but he's also training his mind. A Keyblade wielder has to go through all sorts of training. And it includes this," Kairi said.

"Kairi, why does Sora get all the fun?" Max pouted.

"Yeah, and why do we get stuck doing laundry?" May also pouted.

"My dad always told me that is considered to be training," Kairi said.

Sora and his Pokémon kept meditating, waiting for the wave to come. The wave began to come in, freaking out Torchic.

"No. Not yet, Torchic. Keep your cool," Sora said. Taillow shared Torchic's concern. They kept waiting for the wave to get closer. "Don't move until it's just a little closer." The wave kept coming. "A little closer. A little closer." The wave came close enough and Sora opens his eyes. "NOW!" Sora, Pikachu, and the other Pokémon got up to run, but only Torchic ended up not getting soaked. Kairi went right up to Sora.

"You okay?" Kairi asked.

"Torchic managed to make it out quick enough," Sora said.

"Pika," Pikachu groaned.

Kairi hung Sora's wet clothes just so he wouldn't catch a cold and he's wrapped in a blanket until his clothes were dried. She came in the tent.

"Want some tea, Sora?" Kairi asked.

"Okay," Sora said as he accepted his cup and drank it. An hour later, Sora and his Pokémon went back the same spot to wait for the wave. "Okay. Focus. Focus. Focus." The wave came in again. "Now!" Sora, Pikachu, Torchic, Mudkip, Taillow, Zigzagoon, Poochyena, Seedot, Whismur, and Makuhita timed it just right as Treecko and Cascoon weren't so quick and they got drenched. "Looks like your timing was off this time, guys."

Looks like Treecko and Cascoon messed up this time.

"Yeah, I think you're right. Treecko and Cascoon waited a little too long and that's what threw off their timing," Max said as Treecko and Cascoon sighed.

"Guess preparing for that battle's not gonna be as easy as you thought. But don't worry, practice makes perfect," May said.

"You know that Pokémon Contests aren't exactly a walk in a park, don't you, May?" Sora asked.

"You know, he's right, May. Do you feel like you're ready yet?" Max asked.

"Actually, I'm glad you asked me that question," May said.

Kairi brings out some tea.

"Say Sora, how about you take a break for a while before you catch pneumonia; also you might end up running them ragged," Kairi said as Sora nodded as he knew she was right.

"They could use a break," Sora said, calling his Pokémon as May rushes past the couple, making them look at her.

"We all know Pokémon Contests are for showing off a Pokémon's coolness and good looks, right? And, how they come out of their Pokéballs is super important to win points from the primary judges, correct? That's why I'm getting my Pokémon to practice their entrances. Are you ready to see?" May asked as she winks and giggles. "Yeah!" She twirls around like a ballerina before bringing out her Pokéballs and threw them. "Now, on stage, Torchic, Wurmple, come on out!" Torchic and Wurmple both came out, but they start playing around. "Wrong! All wrong! Start with the somersault, remember? Shoot out, and spin!" But as May goes through the routine herself, she realizes Sora, Kairi, Max, Pikachu, and Angel were watching and chuckles sheepishly. "As you can see, well, we're still practicing."

"Okay. Yeah, practicing is great and all..." Sora said.

"But May, you can't release two Pokémon at once in a Pokémon Contest," Max pointed out. May winced when she realized what she did.

"Ah! I didn't know that! But I'm sure I'll find use for that entrance someplace else," May nervously said.

"And I'm not sure how the judges would feel about the Coordinator dancing around like that," Sora said.

"Really?" May asked, stunned.

"Yeah, after all, the Pokémon are the real stars in a Pokémon Contest," Max said.

May was now worried.

"What can I do? I've already done the choreography for the whole thing! And I even based the whole style of it on Sora's battling. My Pokémon's movements are nice and smooth," May said.

"You're right! Sora's fighting style can totally be used in a Pokémon Contest! Good idea!" Kairi said.

"Eevee!" Angel agreed.

Pikachu's ears perked up, knowing something was near. He turned to see something tunneling underground.

"Pika!" Pikachu shouted, alarming Sora, Kairi, May, Max, and Angel.

"What's wrong?" Kairi asked.

"Heartless, Nobodies, Unversed?" Sora asked. He got his answer when the tunneling creature plows right under the tent.

"No! Not the tent!" Kairi cried.

The creature takes the tent with it, until it came to a small bush, but the creature kept tunneling. Sora turned to Pikachu.

"Okay Pikachu! Thunderbolt!" Sora ordered. Pikachu was about to fire Thunderbolt, until Kairi stopped him.

"No Sora! Pikachu will burn the tent into a crisp!" Kairi warned.

"Right. Bad plan," Sora said.

"I got an idea! Wurmple! String Shot!" May ordered. Wurmple fires String Shot and it sticks to the creature, stopping it.

"That was a good idea," Sora said.

"And it was quick thinking," Kairi said. Wurmple began to pull, but the creature began to pull Wurmple. "No way!"

"It's too strong!" Sora exclaimed. He ran up to the Worm Pokémon and grabbed her. "Hold on, Wurmple! No matter what!"

"Let's all pull!" Kairi said.

Kairi, May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel grabbed Sora and attempts to pull Sora and Wurmple, still holding on to the creature, but it pulls them all, taking them on a wild ride. They screamed while they were being dragged around.

"Not only it's strong, but it's fast, too!" Sora exclaimed.

"But using String Shot is supposed to slow the opponent down!" Max exclaimed.

"Well, nobody told that thing!" Sora said.

They were dragged to the sea and they fell right into the water. After getting out of the water, Sora, Kairi, May, and Max hung their wet clothes for them to dry. They were wrapped with seperate blankets.

"Of all the rides I have been on since I was little, this is the wildest. Now I know why my parents and my grandma never let me on the big rides," Kairi said.

"Oh, our tent is ruined," May groaned.

"You're worried about our tent? I'm more worried about us since we're all soaked to the bone. Changing the subject, what the heck was that anyway? No way that could have been a Heartless. And there's no way that could have been a Diglett," Sora said.

"It might have been a Pokémon a Pokémon that's a natural born digger, and it's not afraid of the water. Most likely a Krabby," Kairi said.

"Whatever it was, not only it was fast, but it was strong enough to give all of us put together a tug and a ride I know none of us will forget," Sora said.

"I think we were on its territory, so that's why it attacked us. And I can safely assume it'll be back," Kairi said.

"And we'll be ready for it," Sora said.

"Ready for it? What do you mean?" May asked.

"Our mission is to find out what it is and catch it," Sora said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu agreed.

"Hold on! Sora, that's a terrible idea!" May said.

"Right now, it's our only option. And if you got a better one, then I'm all ears. Until then, that's our best shot. Besides, it's either that or just wait for whatever it is to come back and gives us another toss," Sora said.

"He's right, May. Besides, don't you want to find out what kind of Pokémon it was?" Max asked. May chuckled nervously.

"I guess so, yeah. But aren't you guys a little scared?" May asked.

"We've been scared when dealing with the Heartless, but we didn't give up. Not even Ansem or anyone from Organization XIII could scare us away. Also, we won't be comfortable camping here until we know exactly what it is we're up against, right, May?" Kairi asked.

"What?!" May exclaimed.

"Cool! Then it might even be a rare Pokémon, too!" Max said.

"Then that's that! Alright, here's the deal, today's training is being changed to Operation: Find the Mystery Pokémon!" Sora proclaimed.

"Yeah!" Kairi and Max said.

"Pika!" Pikachu added.

"Ee!" Angel added.

May just sighed.

"I just don't get it. What's so great about an operation?" May asked.

That night, Sora, Kairi, May, and Max had the tent fixed and set back up. Kairi had her Pokémon food placed on a plate as bait for the attacking Pokémon.

"Good idea of using food as bait, Sora," Kairi whispered.

"If it's a Pokémon, then it'll go for the food. Once it reaches for it, then that's when we spring the trap," Sora whispered back.

"Right. Have Pikachu, Plusle, and Minun give the shocks. Love this plan!" Kairi said.

"Come on, this isn't working, so let's go," May said.

"No, it takes some training to improve concentration," Sora whispered.

"What training?" May asked.

It takes tons of concentration to wait in the dark at night for an enemy that could come at you from out of nowhere at any moment. I know because of Team Rocket and the Heartless," Sora said.

"But I'm tired already! Now I'm starting to wish I was sleeping in the tent!" May said.

"Then go sleep in the tent," Max said.

"No way!" May said.

"Why not?" Max asked. May just grabbed her brother and held him tight in a chokehold.

"I'm scared to death, that's why!" May exclaimed.

Pikachu and Angel soon senses something.

"What is it, Pikachu and Angel?" Sora asked.

"Do you hear something?" Kairi asked.

"Pika," Pikachu answered.

"Vee," Angel added.

May tightens her chokehold on Max even tighter in her panic.

"Oh, no!" May gasped.

"Let go of me!" Max said while he was choking.

"Where is it?" Sora asked.

"I don't know, but it's getting closer and closer," Kairi said.

The sound grew louder and louder. They all knew it was getting closer and closer to them. Sora looked around for any activity in the sand, but there was nothing. But that is what really hits him. He turned to Kairi.

"IT'S RIGHT BEHIND US!" Sora yelled. Kairi, May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel winced as the Pokémon tunneled right through them and sends them flying back on the beach. The mysterious Pokémon tunnels right pass them and heads right for the Pokémon food.

"No! The Pokémon food!" Max gasped. The mysterious Pokémon takes the plate underneath the sand and then discards the plate as it changes course once more.

"It's coming back!" Kairi exclaimed. May ran, so it chased after her.

"No! Stay away from me! Get away!" May cried.

"You're not getting away!" Sora proclaimed. "Pikachu! Thunderbolt!"

"Angel! Use Swift!" Kairi ordered. Pikachu and Angel fired their attacks at the tunneling Pokémon. They struck the sand. Sora took a look, but what he saw were three red horns sticking out of the ground. The Pokémon tunneled underneath before he got a real good look. It left behind a hole big enough for a badger to tunnel through.

"Where did it go?" Sora asked.

"It's gone," May said.

"It just vanished," Kairi said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

They all looked around for the attacking Pokémon.

"Hear anything, Pikachu?" Sora asked.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said, shaking his head. He sighed.

"Great," Sora said.

In the very next morning, Sora, Kairi, May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel laid outside the tent, keeping an eye out for the attacker were exhausted from the lack of sleep. Sora yawned a big yawn and stretched his arms.

"Man, what a hectic night. Why does the sun have to be so bright?" Sora asked.

"That was the worst night ever," Max said.

"Not one of us could get any sleep after what happened last night. Now, I'm too afraid to fall asleep without knowing when it'll come back," Kairi said.

"Me too. Enough of this camping stuff! I vote that we at least move to a different spot!" May said.

"If we do that, then someone else will be affected by that rampaging Pokémon just like we were. That just gives us a reason to clear it out even more," Sora said.

"We're not completely clueless about this, remember? It did go for the Pokémon food," Kairi said.

"That's right. A Heartless will just brush it off and come after us. I did see something though," Sora said.

"What did you see?" Kairi asked.

"I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure I just saw three red horns. But it was moving too fast for me to give a positive ID. And I think it'll come right back for another attack," Sora said.

"Does that mean we'll have to use the food as bait again?" Kairi asked.

"It looks like that. And we'll have it set up all around," Sora said. Kairi caught on to his idea.

"I got you! No matter what it is, the Pokémon will go for the food no matter what, because it'll be everywhere! It'll take the bait no matter what!" Kairi said. Sora gives a thumbs up.

"Bingo!" Sora said.

"Pika, Pi!" Pikachu said.

"Eevee, vee!" Angel said.

"I think I get it, too! That Pokémon will be eating so much food, it'll get even slower and slower from all that eating until it gets full," Max said.

"That's right, Max. And that's only phase one," Sora said. Kairi, May, and Max tilted their heads.

"Phase one?" Kairi asked.

"What's phase two?" May asked.

"We'll dig pitfalls all around the beach since it digs through the beach. That way, no matter which hole it falls into, we have it trapped," Sora said.

"Didn't Team Rocket try this before?" Kairi pointed out.

"Yeah, but we haven't fallen in any lately, haven't we?" Sora asked.

"That's a good point," Kairi said.

"Now let's get to work," Sora said.

Sora, Kairi, May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel got to work on making the trap for the attacking Pokémon. Zigzagoon has recently learned how to use Dig to make the holes as the couple and the siblings had left some Pokémon food as bait for the attacker. They left some on plates, just in different areas just to play it safe. Once they were done, they went back to the camp to wait.

That night, Sora, Kairi, May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel have set their plan into motion.

"I hope your new plan works this time," Kairi said.

"Me too. And once it starts eating it," Sora started.

"We wait for it to get full from overeating," Kairi said.

"Sounds like a plan," May said.

"Shh, I think I see something," Sora whispered.

Just then, something slowly came out of the water and sniffed about. The mysterious creature sniffed around. It saw the Pokémon food and and made its way towardsit. Once it was close enough, it started to eat the Pokémon food.

"It's working," Max whispered.

"It's definitely a Pokémon if it's eating Kairi's Pokémon food," May said.

The mysterious Pokémon went for another plate and fell in one of the pitfalls.

"It worked!" Sora, Kairi, May, and Max exclaimed. They went to the hole and saw it was a Munchlax that fell in the hole.

"It was only a Munchlax," May said.

"Yeah, but it's not the Pokémon we were after," Sora said.

"You're right. Munchlax don't have horns," Kairi said.

Just before they could get Munchlax out of the hole, the mystery Pokémon sends Munchlax flying in the air and over to the forest on the island. The tunneling Pokémon heads for a plate of Pokémon food.

"Pikachu! Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Pikachu dashes into the sand and flushes out the attacking Pokémon; revealed to be a wild Corphish.

"Corp!" Corphish said as it went flying.

"No way. All this time it was just a Corphish," Sora said. Kairi then realized something.

"So that's it. We were on his territory. That's why he was attacking us and took down our tent," Kairi said.

"You were right about thing, Kairi. It was a Pokémon that can tunnel underground and wasn't afraid of water. Now that Corphish is good as caught," Sora said. Corphish glares at Pikachu and he glares right at Corphish. "Pikachu! Thunderbolt!" Pikachu fires Thunderbolt, but the lobster-like Pokémon avoids the electric attack and fires back with a Bubble Beam. Pikachu gets struck hard. Corphish tunnels under the sand.

"Sora, Corphish could jump out at any moment!" Kairi said.

"I know. Corphish must be using his sneak attack to try to throw me off," Sora said. "Pikachu, be ready for anything!"

"Pika," Pikachu said. Corphish tunnels under Pikachu and sends him flying.

"Come on down with Iron Tail!" Sora ordered. Pikachu was starting to come down with Iron Tail, but Corphish stops the attack in its tracks and sends Pikachu flying right back at Sora. Both Trainer and Pokémon fell to the ground.

"Sora!" Kairi gasped.

"Eevee!" Angel gasped.

"I'm okay, Kairi. But what about you, Pikachu?" Sora asked.

"Pika," Pikachu said.

"That Corphish is tougher than he looks. You should rest up for a while, buddy," Sora said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

"I need to think. Everytime I send out an attack, it bounces right back at me. I need to turn the tables on him," Sora said. He takes out Treecko's Pokéball and throws it. "You're up, Treecko!" Sora called out as Treecko enters the battle, putting his twig in his mouth. "Stay where you are. Don't move until I give the word." Sora and Treecko waited for Corphish to make the first move. Kairi, May, and Max became anxious for the results. Corphish fires with a Bubble Beam. He grins. "Treecko! Leafage!" Treecko fires Leafage and it blocks the Bubble Beam. Corphish became infuriated and came at the Wood Gecko Pokémon with Crabhammer.

"Watch for that Crabhammer!" Kairi warned.

"Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Treecko dashes across the sand and slams right into Corphish. "Now use Pound!" Treecko gives the crustacean Pokémon a powerful smack with his leafy tail and it knocks out Corphish. Sora takes out a Pokéball and throws it at Corphish. He flows inside it. The Pokéball wobbles around and around in a violent fashion, knowing he probably won't stay in with ease. Stars swirls around the Pokéball, confirming the catch. Sora's Pokédex starts buzzing asking him if he wants to keep Corphish with him. He chose to keep Corphish in exchange for Seedot. "Gotcha."

"That was a pretty good catch, Sora," Kairi said.

"Thanks, Kairi. That Corphish may have caused us a lot of trouble, but at least nobody has to worry about any future attacks," Sora said. Kairi smiled as she nodded.

"I'm glad," Kairi said.

"Me too. It was an exciting night," May said with a yawn.

"Yeah, let's get some sleep," Sora said.

Sora placed his arm around Kairi as they went to their tent with May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel following them in it. Sora, Kairi, May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel all fell asleep as soon as their heads hit their pillows, sleeping peacefully until their next exciting adventure.
