Episode 234: A Corphish Out of Water

Sometime after Sora has caught Corphish, Sora got back to some training for his Gym battle against Brawly. Before he does that, he starts polishing his Pokéballs, making sure that they were clean and shiny. He looked at his his reflection.

"Hello, handsome," Sora jokingly said before he chuckled. "As soon as I'm done polishing these, we can get some training done."

"Pika!" Pikachu said.

"Now Sora's polishing his Pokéballs?" May asked.

"Of course. Pokéballs are very important tools for any Trainer; especially when it comes to catching some wild Pokémon," Kairi said.

"You could take his example to heart, May," Max said.

"Who asked you?" May deadpanned.

After Sora had polished the last Pokéball, he and his Pokémon gotten started on their training. Sora's newest Corphish was quite a handful when he was bashing all the other Pokémon with his Crabhammer.

"Hey, Corphish, take it easy! We're not in a real bat-" Sora was cut off when Corphish swung his pincer at Sora, sending him flying. "WHOA!" He hits the ground hard. Kairi ran up to Sora with concern.

"Sora, are you alright?" Kairi asked.

"Mommy, can I wear the jammies with the footies?" Sora asked while in a daze. Hee shook his head, getting back to his senses. "Ow, that's some hit."

"Corphish, Corphish!" Corphish happily said as Sora walked over to Corphish.

"You don't seem to know your own strength, and that might get you into trouble one day," Sora said.

"Corphish," Corphish said, obvious to Sora's meaning.

"And you have no idea what I'm talking about," Sora sighed, hanging his head.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

Corphish spotted some seaweed on the beach and heads right for the seaweed. Sora sees Corphish heading right over to the beach.

"Where are you going, Corphish?" Sora asked. Corphish takes the seaweed, unaware that it's tied to some rope with some buoys. "Hey, Corphish, don't eat that! You don't know where that rope's been! Besides, you'll get sick!" Corphish ate the rope and buoys and give off a huge belch once he was finished eating it.

A little later, Brendan shows up and he smiled when he saw Sora, Kairi, May, and Max. He as especially happy to see May with there.

"Hey, guys," Brendan said. They all turned to see Brendan when he's walking up to them.

"Brendan!" May happily said, blushing.

"Hi, May," Brendan said, blushing.

"Hey, Brendan. Had a feeling we'd see you sooner or later," Sora said.

"Hey, Sora. I didn't expect to see you here on the island. What brings you here?" Brendan asked.

"Just doing some training before I get into my Gym battle against Brawly. How about you?" Sora asked.

"The same thing. So what's new?" Brendan asked.

Brendan joined the group as they told them about the misadventures they had on their way towards Dewford Island, and how they caught some of the Pokémon living on the island, including Makuhita and Corphish. Brendan was surprised to hear he didn't have his match with Brawly yet, and he's training for it.

"And that's pretty much it," Sora said.

"Wow, I thought you would have won your second Gym Badge by now, Sora," Brendan said.

"What about you, Brendan? What brings you to our neck of the island?" Kairi asked.

"Well, if you must know, I came to the island and challenged the Gym Leader Brawly into a Gym battle. I thought I was going to win it," Brendan said.

"Did you win?" May asked.

"No, I got creamed," Brendan said. They all sighed. "That Makuhita of his was crazy strong, so it knocked out my Treecko with just one hit. So I came out here to do some training for my rematch, and I bumped into all of you."

"Sorry that you didn't win, Brendan," May said.

"Don't be sorry, May. I just gotta do better next time, and I'll be ready," Brendan said.

"Did you hear from Riku, Naminé, Ash, Leaf, Kris, Ethan, or Lyra?" Kairi asked.

"I heard from Lyra, and she's been hearing stuff about that kid in the mask. She went in to look into it, but she hadn't found any clues. Just some Unversed," Brendan said.

"Glad she's doing good," Kairi said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

"Say, since we're both training for our battle against Brawly, I thought you and I could have a match, Sora," Brendan suggested.

"I can take you up on that offer," Sora said. Sora and Brendan got into positions for their practice battle. Brendan took out a Pokéball and threw it.

"You're up first, Wurmple!" Brendan called out. His Wurmple came out to go against Sora's team. Sora looked at Cascoon.

"Go for it, Cascoon!" Sora said.

"Cascoon," Cascoon said.

"Cascoon is an evolved form of Wurmple, so she's got the advantage," Max pointed out.

"True. But it won't stop Brendan," Kairi said.

"Wurmple! Use Tackle!" Brendan ordered. Wurmple charges right at Cascoon with a Tackle.

"Okay, Cascoon! Use Harden!" Sora ordered. Cascoon hardens her body as Wurmple's Tackle bounced off. "Great! Now use your own Tackle!" Cascoon dashed at Wurmple, landing a hit.

"Wurmple! Use Poison Sting!" Brendan ordered. Wurmple fired Poison Sting right at Cascoon.

"Harden!" Sora ordered. Cascoon hardens her body once again. "Now use String Shot!" Cascoon unleashed her silk right at the Worm Pokémon, tying up her opponent.

"Wurmple! Use Electroweb!" Brendan ordered. Wurmple a stream of yellow electricity into the air. As it flies through the air, the tip opens up and expands, forming into a spider web of yellow electricity. The web then covers.

"That was impressive! Did you teach that to your Wurmple, Brendan?" Sora asked.

"Sure did. Just recently," Brendan said.

"Wow, I didn't know Wurmple could use that move," May said.

"The way Brendan taught Electroweb was really cool! Electroweb can be used to slow down an opponent as well it can deal some damage!" Max said.

"Try to use Tackle!" Sora ordered. Cascoon tried to move, but the electrified web was too strong for Cascoon to break free.

"Okay, Wurmple! Tackle!" Brendan ordered. Wurmple charges at Cascoon and lands a hit onto her. Cascoon was knocked out from the attack. "That was great, Wurmple!"

"Wurmple!" Wurmple said just before it started to evolve, catching everyone by surprise.

"My Wurmple's evolving!" Brendan gasped. Wurmple has evolved into a Cascoon, just like Sora's. "Got a Cascoon!" Ge picked up his newly evolved Cascoon and smiled. "You were awesome." Brendan's newly evolved Cascoon beamed.

"You did your best, Cascoon. You're still number one to me," Sora said.

"Coon," Sora's Cascoon said. Sora summoned his Keyblade and casts his cure spell onto Cascoon, healing her injuries. He dismissed his Keyblade and approached Brendan.

"Good practice battle, Brendan. You did great," Sora said.

"Thanks. If it weren't for you, then my Wurmple wouldn't have evolved into a Cascoon," Brendan said.

"Don't say that. Your Wurmple evolved for you," Sora said. That made Brendan smile.

"Thanks a lot, Sora," Brendan said.

A little while later, Kairi has prepared some breakfast for everyone, but May was quick to notice that her Wurmple wasn't eating all that much. This was concerning her greatly.

"May, what's wrong? Aren't you hungry?" Brendan asked.

"It's not like you to pass up Kairi's breakfasts," Max said.

"I'm fine. It's just, I'm worried about my Wurmple. She's not eating much," May said.

"You know, that does sound serious," Sora said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

May bends down to her Wurmple.

"What's wrong, Wurmple? Does your tummy hurt?" May asked. Wurmple shook her head. "You gotta eat something. It'll keep your energy up," May said. May's Torchic even offers her food to Wurmple.

"Torchic," May's Torchic chirped. Wurmple shook her head, but Corphish just greedily ate the Pokémon food.

"That wasn't yours! That belonged to Torchic and Wurmple!" May exclaimed.

"Bad Corphish! Bad!" Sora scolded.

"Corphish?" Corphish asked.

"That food was not yours, so say you're sorry for what you did!" Sora scolded.

"Corphish," Corphish said, making Sora sigh again.

"It's like talking to a brick wall. Sorry about that, May. I'm gonna have to teach Corphish about sharing," Sora said.

"I'll make another batch just for your Torchic and Wurmple to make up for it," Kairi said.

"Thanks, I appreciate that, Kairi," May said. Max was exclaiming about something. "What's up with you, Max?"

"May, it's Wurmple! Look!" Max exclaimed while pointing at Wurmple. The Worm Pokémon was starting to evolve.

"Wurmple!" May gasped.

"She's evolving!" Kairi gasped.

May's Wurmple has evolved right into a Silcoon, same as Kairi's.

"Silcoon," May said.

"Well, that answers that," Brendan said.

"That means it won't be long until Silcoon becomes a Beautifly," Sora said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu agreed.

"You think so?" May asked.

"He knows so. And I was hoping you'd have one since Beautifly suits you, May," Brendan said as he blushed. May smiled.

"That's sweet of you to say, Brendan," May said. Sora and Kairi just smiled and beamed at the sight, knowing there's a spark between the two of them.

"Oh, they're so cute together, aren't they, Sora?" Kairi asked.

"Yeah, they sure are," Sora agreed.

"Pika, Pika," Pikachu said.

"Vee," Angel said.

"Corphish, Corp," Corphish said, sounding a bit weak. Sora heard the Ruffian Pokémon and saw that he was turning light red. Sora knew something was wrong with Corphish.

"Corphish, what's wrong with you?!" Sora exclaimed with concern.

"Corphish, are you alright?" Kairi asked. Brendan, May, and Max went up to the couple as Sora placed his hand on Corphish's forehead and felt how warm he was getting.

"Corphish is burning up with a fever!" Sora gasped.

"Oh no!" Kairi gasped.

"Pika," Pikachu said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

"I'll have to take you to the Pokémon Center right away!" Sora said.

"Can't you just use your healing magic on Corphish?" Max asked.

"The cure spell only works on injuries, not illnesses," Kairi said. Sora grabs Corphish's Pokéball and called him back inside.

"You'll be safe in here, Corphish," Sora said. He turned to Kairi. "Kairi, I'm going have to go on to Dewford Town and get to the Pokémon Center by foot."

"I'm going with you, Sora," Kairi said.

"No, I need you to stay here just in case we get some unwanted visitors. Besides, I have seen how you can handle yourself, Kairi."

"Okay, I understand, Sora. Just hurry back," Kairi said.

"I will," Sora said, giving his girlfriend a kiss on the lips. Pikachu and Angel nuzzled each other affectionately. Sora and Pikachu started to make their way towards Dewford Town's Pokémon Center.

"You think it's a good idea to let Sora go by himself?" Max asked.

"Sora will be fine. He can handle himself," Kairi said.

"Eevee," Angel added.

"She's right. If Sora can handle a handful of monsters, then he can make it to the Pokémon Center by himself," Brendan said.

"The monsters is what I'm worried about," Max said.

"And you're right to worry, Max," Kairi said. Max turned to her. "Sora knows they'll attack us at anytime, so we'll need to be on high alert. Sora too."

"Okay, I'd rather not have to see any monsters anytime soon," May said.

Over to Sora and Pikachu, they continued to rush towards the Dewford Town Pokémon Center to cure Corphish of his fever when his stomach suddenly growled.

"Oh, great! With all the excitement, I never got to finish Kairi's breakfast. I should be kicking myself for letting Kairi's hard work go to waste," Sora said.

"Pika, Pika, Pika, Pikachu, chu, Pika, Pikachu, Pika," Pikachu said. That made Sora smile.

"You're right, Pikachu. Corphish needs us right now. And we gotta help him. But let's get a quick snack before we do," Sora said, looking around. He spotted a Pecha Berry growing on the branch of a nearby tree. "Pecha Berry! Perfect! Just gotta go over and pick it." Sora went over to pick the berry. When he picked it and turned around, he heard a sound when Sora stepped on something. Sora looked down when he stepped on a Shroomish. Sora winced when he saw the Shroomish. "Oh, no! Shroomish! I didn't see you there!" Shroomish unleashed a Stun Spore to paralyze Sora. "RUN!" Sora and Pikachu ran to escape the Mushroom Pokémon's Stun Spore and they panted once they were far enough. "That was too close."

"Chu," Pikachu agreed.

"Well, let's eat," Sora said, cutting the berry in half. He gave one half to Pikachu and he kept the other one for himself. They ate the berry and pressed on. Sora and Pikachu made it to a river with Dewford Town right in front of them. "There's Dewford Town. Now we just gotta get across."

"Pika," Pikachu agreed.

Just when Sora and Pikachu have stepped in the river just to get to Dewford Town, but a pack of Carvanha came out and attacked Sora and Pikachu.

"CARVANHA!" Sora yelled as he and Pikachu ran out of the water and back on the shore. "It had to be Carvanha. Well, at least they're not Sharpedo. We'll have to find some other way to get across, but there isn't a bridge around here for miles." Pikachu turned his head and he saw a boat in the bushes.

"Pika, Pi!" Pikachu said, getting Sora's attention. Sora turned to see the boat.

"Yes! A boat! We can use that to get across!" Sora said. He pushes the boat in the water and uses it to get across. The Carvanha then started to attack again. "Okay, Pikachu, use Thunderbolt on them." Pikachu fired Thunderbolt and shocked the Carvanha. That only made them angrier, so they started to eat through the boat. "Hey, cut that out! No, don't eat the boat!" Sora rowed back to the shore and got off of what was left of the boat. "Okay, the boat didn't work. We're gonna have to get to a bridge to get across."

"Pika," Pika agreed.

Sora and Pikachu followed the river down to the bridge until the bridge was within sight.

"There it is!" Sora said. Sora and Pikachu stopped when they saw that the bridge was broken by halfway. "Oh, this is just dandy! The bridge is out!"

"Pika," Pikachu groaned.

"Well, there's no other option but to wade our way across," Sora said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

It didn't long until Sora and Pikachu started to make their way across the river. The Carvanha were ganging up on them when they got close enough to the other side.

"Okay, Pikachu, jump off," Sora said. Pikachu jumped off his shoulders.

"Use Thunderbolt just to keep them away from me!" Sora said. Pikachu nodded and fired Thunderbolt right at the Carvanha, shocking them. It was working for the most part, but several more Carvanha were coming right towards them. "Oh no!" Just then, a Thunderbolt struck the Carvanha, making them flee. Sora sighed with relief when the Carvanha were now gone. "Nice save, Pikachu."

"Pikachu?" Pikachu asked.

"You mean, you didn't do that?" Sora asked. Pikachu shook his head. "Well, if it wasn't you, then who did that?" Unknown to Sora, Xipak was following Sora and Pikachu ever since he left the group to help Corphish. Sora and Pikachu finally arrived to the Pokémon Center and went up to the counter. "Nurse Joy, you gotta help me!"

"How can I help you?" Nurse Joy asked.

"It's my Corphish. He's got a serious fever," Sora said, taking out Corphish's Pokéball and let him out. Nurse Joy examined the Ruffian Pokémon very thoroughly.

"Oh my goodness. This isn't a natural color. I'll get started right away," Nurse Joy said.

"Thanks a lot," Sora said.

A Chansey and a Blissey came in the lobby with a stretcher.

"This Corphish has a fever, so we must get treat it right away," Nurse Joy said.

"Chansey," Chansey said.

"Blissey," Blissey said.

The Egg and Happiness Pokémon took Corphish over to the back to treat Corphish. He waited anxiously to hear about Corphish's condition. A few moments later, Nurse Joy came out and escorted to a room where Corphish is sleeping.

"Is my Corphish okay?" Sora asked.

"Your Corphish is going to be just fine. His fever has already started to go down, so he's sleeping soundly. He'll be fighting fit in the morning," Nurse Joy said.

"That's good to know, Nurse Joy. Thank you," Sora said. "But do you know what made my Corphish sick in the first place?"

"Well, it was because your Corphish ate some rope and a couple of buoys," Nurse Joy said, pointing to the source of the problem. Sora looked at the rope and buoys and he sighed.

"I told Corphish that was gonna happen," Sora deadpanned.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

"I'm gonna have to speak with Kairi about putting Corphish on a serious diet over this," Sora said. His Rotom Phone starts ringing. He saw it was Kairi calling him. "And speak of the devil." He answered his Rotom Phone. "Hey, Kairi."

"Sora, is Corphish doing okay?" Kairi asked with concern.

"He's fine. I hit a few bumps on the way over, but Corphish is fine. His fever's starting to go down and he's sleeping like a baby," Sora said.

"I'm glad. What made Corphish sick?" Kairi asked.

"You're going to think this is funny, but it turns out that Corphish ate something that he shouldn't have. And it was a rope and a couple of buoys," Sora said.

"Mow that doesn't sound very nutritious," Kairi said.

"It doesn't. So I think we should have Corphish on a diet just so we can avoid this from happening again," Sora said.

"If you feel that's best, then I can back you up, Sora," Kairi said. She giggled. "I'll let Brendan, May, and Max know you made it. I'll see when you get back, cuz I miss you."

"Miss you, too, Kairi. And I love you," Sora said.

"Love you, too, Sora," Kairi said. She makes a kissing sound, making him wish he was kissing her back. He hung up his Rotom Phone.

Back with Kairi, she placed her Rotom Phone in her pocket.

"Did Sora make it?" Max asked.

"He made it by the skin of his teeth. Corphish is going to be just fine," Kairi said.

"Great," May said.

"Sora's going to be sleeping over to the Pokémon just so Corphish can rest," Kairi said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

Back to the Pokémon Center, Sora and Pikachu are seen sleeping soundly at the edge of Corphish's bed. Corphish moved his pincer in his sleep and lightly conks Sora.

On the next morning, Corphish was full of energy again, making Sora smile.

"Look at you, Corphish! Now you look strong enough to pull ears off a Copperajah," Sora said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu seconded the notion.

"Corphish, Corp!" Corphish said.

"Come on. Kairi and the others are waiting for us. We were all worried about you," Sora said, calling Corphish back inside his Pokéball. Sora and Pikachu started to make his way back to Kairi, Brendan, May, and Max.

Along the way, Sora is approached by a Trainer walking through the forest. With him is an amphibious, bipedal Pokémon. Its body is primarily light-blue with a lighter shade of blue for its underside and an orange belly. Its head has an angular black fin, orange eyes, and orange gills on the ends of both cheeks. It has long arms with three-fingered hands. Its feet have three small toes, and it has two black fins for tails. This Pokémon has a thin, sticky film enveloping its body that enables it to live on land. It has sturdy legs. This Pokémon is known as a Marshtomp.

"Hey, you with the Pikachu! You wanna have a battle with me?" The Trainer asked, challenging Sora.

"I'm kinda in a hurry," Sora said.

"What's the matter? You afraid of losing?" The Trainer asked.

"We can make it quick," Sora said. "How do you wanna do it?"

"Make it a one-on-one battle," the Trainer said.

"Okay, you're on," Sora said.

"Great, and the Pokémon I'm using is my Marshtomp!" The Trainer said.

"Marshtomp!" Marshtomp said.

"Marshtomp, huh?" Sora asked, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned it.

Marshtomp, the Mud Fish Pokémon

The evolved form of Mudkip

Type: Water/Ground

Marshtomp is much faster at traveling through mud than it is at swimming. This Pokémon's hindquarters exhibit obvious development, giving it the ability to walk on just its hind legs.

"Figured that's what Mudkip evolve into," Sora said. Sora took out Corphish's Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Corphish!" His Pokéball opened up and Corphish came right out to battle.

"Corphish? I thought you were going to use your Pikachu against my Marshtomp," the Trainer said.

"Pikachu's electricity won't even tickle your Marshtomp, but I wanted to test out Corphish's strength in battle since I caught him just recently," Sora said.

"Corphish, Corp," Corphish said.

"Your Corphish has some spunk, I'll give it that, but spunk doesn't win Pokémon battles. Marshtomp! Use Mega Punch!" The Trainer ordered. Marshtomp rushes at Corphish with a powerful punch attack.

"Corphish! Use Harden!" Sora ordered. Corphish hardens his body, so Marshtomp lands a punch, but the Mud Fish Pokémon hurts itself. "Use Crabhammer!" Corphish swings his pincer at Marshtomp while emitting water. Corphish lands a heavy hit with his Crabhammer.

"Marshtomp! Use Water Pulse!" The Trainer ordered. Marshtomp hurls a ball of water and sends it right at Corphish.

"Dodge and use Bubble Beam!" Sora ordered. Corphish dodged and gave Marshtomp some heavy hits with a barrage of bubbles.

"Marshtomp! Use Mud Shot!" The Trainer ordered. Marshtomp fired Mud Shot right at Corphish.

"Use Crabhammer!" Sora ordered. Corphish cuts through Marshtomp's Mud Shot and lands a hit with his Crabhammer. "That's awesome, Corphish! Crabhammer again!" Corphish gave Marshtomp one more swing with his Crabhammer, knocking out Marshtomp. The Trainer rushes up to the beaten Marshtomp.

"Speak to me, Marshtomp! Say somethimg!" The Trainer cried.

"Tomp," Marshtomp weakly said.

"You were great, Marshtomp. Number one," the Trainer said, helping Marshtomp on its feet. "Hey, you're a good Trainer."

"Thanks. So are you," Sora said.

"If you don't mind me asking, but where's the fire?" The Trainer asked.

"Well, my Corphish had a fever yesterday, so I came all the way out here to have him healed up. My girlfriend and my other friends are waiting for me to come back," Sora said.

"Is that right? Well, thanks for the battle," the Trainer said. He turned to Marshtomp. "Come on, Marshtomp, let's get you healed up."

"Marshtomp," Marshtomp said as they left.

Sora looked at his new Corphish and smiled.

"That was a great battle. You sure gave it everything you had, Corphish," Sora said.

"Corphish," Corphish said.

"Come on, let's head back," Sora said, calling Corphish back.

Sora and Pikachu had to cross the river again, but luckily, no Carvanha came and attacked him. Sora figured the Carvanha were either too scared to attack him again or they just went to find a new territory. Either way, it was safe. Once Sora and Pikachu came across they started to make their way back to camp, and just in time as Kairi was preparing a lunch for everyone.

"Sora, glad you came back," Kairi said, hugging her boyfriend. "I missed you like crazy."

"Missed you, too," Sora said, hugging her back. Max just rolled his eyes with annoyance.

"He was only gone for a day," Max said.

"Don't ruin the moment, Max. It's sweet," May said as she was swooning over how romantic it looked.

"You're just in time for lunch, Sora," Kairi said.

"Good timing anyway, because I'm getting hungry," Sora said.

"Pikachu!" Pikachu said.

"Eevee, vee!" Angel said.

After going through a misadventure, Sora has managed to help his new Corphish get over a bad fever, but who knows what else will happen? Just you wait and see if you want to find out more.
