Afterlife: A Marnuck gives a human some religious instruction.
All the good things belong to Monolithsoft.
A Marnuck should not be tending her wounds. Marnuck ate their fallen enemies, for god's sake. This one had carried her away from the battle and was patching her up, inexpertly and rough, but definitely trying not to hurt her.
"Why?" she croaked out.
The alien leaned over and patted her forehead with a soggy rag. "My Lady wills it." Its teeth wove together as it spoke. It wiped away the drops that were running into her eyes.
"Who?" One word was all she could manage before she had to grit her teeth against the pain.
The Marnuck patted and swiped, patted and swiped. She was slipping out of consciousness, but she hung on to the alien's words. "She who sews the oceans to the shore. She who weaves the wind through the sky. She who opens the horizon for the new sun." The words were as soothing as the cool cloth on her face.
She fought hard to stay awake. "Why?"
The Marnuck paused. Its face became fierce. She would have shrunk away if she could have moved at all. "The God of the Graveyard judges us at our death. But He does not hold us forever."
a/n: Yes, I am building the Marnuck pantheon one god at a time. Tide Goddess is the second, after the Crone of the Bowl.
Next up: the last day, can we do it? Combine two prompts.
