Episode 240: Win, Lose, or Drew
Shortly after earning the Knowledge Symbol from Noland, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel were making their way back to the Pokémon Center when a wild Electrike got in their path.
"An Electrike!" Kairi said. Electrike just growled at the couple as it stood in their path. "He looks agitated."
"I think you're right, Kairi. And I don't think he's going to let us past him," Sora said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Torchic!" His Pokéball opened and Torchic came out to battle against Electrike. Electrike starts things up with a Tackle. "Dodge and use Ember!" Torchic avoids Electrike's Tackle and fired Ember at the Lightning Pokémon. He dodges the fire attack and rams into Torchic with a Tackle. Electrike even comes at Torchic with electricity emitting from his body. "Electrike is using Spark. Dodge and use Scratch!" Torchic managed to dodge Electrike's Spark and gave Electrike a scratch across the face. "Use Peck!" Torchic lands a Peck onto Electrike. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it. Electrike flows inside the Pokéball. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Sora's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Electrike with him. He chose to keep Electrike in exchange for Zigzagoon. "Great job, Torchic. Get some rest." He calls Torchic back.
With that done, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel continued to head for the Pokémon Center. As they came back, they saw Rei, Riku, Naminé, Lyra, Max, Eevee, Azurill, and Marill in the Pokémon Center.
"I trust you won your battle against the Frontier Brain, did you?" Rei asked.
"Yeah, it was tough," Sora said. He took out the Symbol case and showed them the Knowledge Symbol.
"Wow, so that's a Battle Frontier Symbol," Lyra said.
"Wish you told us that you were going to have it, Sora, because I would have liked to see it," Max said.
"Sorry, Max, these sort of things just happens," Sora said.
"May and Brendan had their own thing to do," Kairi added.
"Not only that, but she made us train for a while you were out," Riku said.
"And that means you two will have to take a make-up course just so you can catch up," Rei said. Sora and Kairi looked at each other, knowing they'll never get out of it even if they tried.
Over to Axel, the egg starts glowing even brighter than ever. Axel knew that the egg is about to hatch.
"It's the moment of truth. Time to see what you are," Axel said. The egg gave off one last glow before the egg started to crack. The Pokémon inside turns out to be a Magby.
"Magby," the newborn Magby yawned. The Magby looked up to Axel and he smiled.
"Hey there, little guy. I've been waiting to meet you face-to-face," Axel said, picking up Magby in his arms.
"By," Magby said, feeling comfortable around the Nobody.
"Stick with me and you can go places with me and get strong," Axel said. Magby smiled and liked the idea of getting stronger. "Hm, the egg comes with a Pokéball, so where is it?" He searches for it until he found it. "Here it is. You can rest in this." Magby tapped the button on the Pokéball and flows inside. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. He tossed the Pokéball in the air and his Magby came right out. "Okay, let's go. We could use some more friends. What do you say?"
"Magby!" Magby nodded as Axel chuckled.
"You sure got that memorized, Magby," Axel said. He and Magby went off to find some additional Pokémon to catch.
Two weeks have come and gone, and so far there were no signs of Heartless, Nobody, or Unversed attacks, which Rei knew they won't stay quiet for long. She and her apprentices will have to be ready for anything coming their way.
Pokémon Coordinators have gathered, making their final preparations for the upcoming Slateport Contest.
Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Lyra, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, Azurill, Marill, and Torchic have arrived just in time to witness the training.
"These last couple of weeks have flown by," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"Sure has," Lyra agreed.
"This is it. You ready?" Brendan asked.
"You bet I am!" May said as she grinned. "There's only one Trainer here I want to battle against."
"You're talking about Drew, aren't you?" Naminé asked.
"Who else?" Sora asked.
"Pikachu," Pikachu agreed.
"Well, I best be off training," Kairi said.
"Eevee, vee," Angel agreed.
"Then let's accompany you, Kairi," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu added.
"Riku, think you and Naminé can watch Torchic for me?" May asked.
"Sure, May," Riku answered.
"Thanks," May said as she took off to train for the Contest. Torchic felt left out.
"Torchic!" Torchic chirped.
"It's okay, Torchic! Just play with the others for a while!" May said. Torchic felt sad as Max felt sorry for his sister's starter Pokémon.
Unknown to any of them, Vanitas is watching from the roof of a building.
"I may not have gotten all of you in place, but it's better than nothing," Vanitas said.
Inside the Pokémon Center, Rei felt some sort of presence nearby. It was something dark.
"I sense darkness, and not the kind coming from Riku. I better look into this throughly," Rei said. She stood up and begun her search.
Sora, Pikachu, Angel, and his Ralts watched Kairi and her Ralts train with her Confusion and Psybeam combo with the balls she had her Ralts practice with.
"That's the way, Ralts!" Kairi praised.
"Eevee, vee!" Angel also praised.
"Ralts!" Kairi's Ralts said.
"That's awesome, Kairi!" Sora said.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu said.
"Ralts, Ralts!" Sora's Ralts said.
"Thanks, Sora. That means a lot to me," Kairi said.
"Well, what kind of boyfriend would that make me if I didn't support you?" Sora asked. Kairi giggled.
"You're a sweetheart, Sora," Kairi said. She gave her boyfriend a kiss on the cheek. Sora blushed as he placed his hand on his cheek.
Over to Riku, Naminé, Lyra, Brendan, Lyra, Max, Eevee, Azurill, Marill, and Torchic, they were having their meal as Max was quiet. He then voiced his opinion.
"It's not fair what May did to Torchic!" Max exclaimed. The older kids all looked at Max.
"What do you mean, Max?" Lyra asked.
"There isn't something wrong with Torchic, is there?" Naminé asked.
"I mean, May just spends all of her time with her Beautifly now. And then she goes off and practices with Beautifly; so I'm wondering if May even likes Torchic anymore," Max said.
"Oh, come on, Max. May loves Torchic just as much as Beautifly," Brendan said.
"He's right. She really does," Riku said.
"But how do you know? You seem to be sure about it," Max said.
"I have an idea. Torchic was May's very first Pokémon," Riku said.
"What does that have to do with anything?" Max asked.
"What Riku means is Torchic was the very first partner to May," Lyra said.
"I still don't see why that makes it so special," Max said.
"You don't understand because you're not a Trainer yet, Max. On the day you become a Trainer, you'll know that your first Pokémon will always have a special place in your heart same as our first ones do," Riku said.
"Wow, I never thought of that, but it makes sense. Treecko touched my heart when we first met," Brendan said. He looked at Riku. "Say, since you came from Alola, which was your first Pokémon, Riku? Was it a Rowlet, a Litten, or a Popplio?"
"None of them. Eevee was my first. Eevee here has been with me right from the start," Riku said as he pets Eevee on his head.
"I feel the same way about my Azurill ever since she hatched from her egg," Naminé said.
"The same for Marill," Lyra said.
"Marill, rill," Marill said.
"Really? Eevee, Azurill, and Marill?" Max asked.
"Really. Ash felt the same way about his Charizard when he was a Charmander, Leaf for her Venusaur as a Bulbasaur, Ethan for his Typhlosion as a Cyndaquil, and Wani-Wani as a Totodile," Lyra said.
"What were Sora and Kairi's first Pokémon then?" Max asked.
"Pikachu and Angel of course," Lyra said.
"That's right, Max. You really have to hear it from them," Riku said.
"But I do wonder what my first partner will be? Will it be a Treecko, a Mudkip, or a Torchic? Come to think of it, my dad could give me just about anything. He could even give me a Slakoth," Max said. He shook his head. "I don't think I like that." Everyone hears Tiku Rotom Phone ringing. He saw it was Rei calling him. He answered it.
"Yes, Master Rei?" Riku answered his phone.
"Riku, I just picked up some sort of darkness. I don't know who or what it is, but the darkness with this being is strong. Are Sora and the others with you?" Rei asked.
"Just Lyra and Naminé, Master," Riku answered.
"Good, I'm going to need you to come with me," Rei said.
"Are Sora and Kairi there with you?" Riku asked.
"No, but I'm going to contact them shortly," Rei said.
"Okay, we'll meet up with you now," Riku said.
"What did she has to say?" Lyra asked.
"She just said that some kind of darkness is somewhere in the city," Riku said.
"Could it be Nobodies, Heartless, or Unversed?" Namine asked.
"Master Rei didn't say. She wants us to meet up with her right now," Riku said.
"Then it's a good thing she called us. Let's go," Riku said.
"Max and I will stay here," Brendan said.
"That's for the best, because we don't know what we're up against, so it'll be dangerous," Riku said.
"Okay, let's go," Lyra said.
"Marill, Marill," Marill said.
"Eevee, vee," Eevee said.
With that said, Riku, Naminé, Lyra, and their partners ran out to aide Rei with whatever is around.
"Careful, guys," Brendan said.
"You think it's a good idea letting them go out there themselves?" Max asked.
"They'll be fine, Max. Besides, May will kill me if those Heartless, Unversed, or Nobodies killed you. And so will your parents," Brendan said.
Over to May, she and Beautifly were practicing for the Pokémon Contest over by the beach.
"Beautifly! Silver Wind!" May ordered. Beautifly flapped her wings fiercely and it blows right on the water. "That wasn't bad, Beautifly. But when the judges are watching, you should make it last a bit longer. I know I'm pushing you hard, but I want us to win this contest." Beautifly understood what May's saying. "Okay, once more." Beautifly started to fly up and saw something. May caught on quickly. "What's wrong?" She saw a hurt Swablu. May rushes over to the injured Cotton Bird Pokémon. "A Swablu. The poor thing is hurt." She gently picked up the injured Swablu. "Don't worry, I'll take you to the Pokémon. You'll be okay." Swablu looked at May and saw a concerned look on her face.
Over to Sora, Kairi, and the Pokémon, Lisia and Ali watching from a small distance. Lisia is dressed in casual clothes. She wore a sky blue sleeveless shirt, exposing her navel and a pair of jean shorts reaching down to her knees, white frilly socks and a pair of pink shoes. She was watching Kairi practicing with her Ralts. Lisia was impressed by what she saw.
"Now that was dazzling!" Lisia said. The couple turned to see her. She blushed when she realized she's been spotted. "Sorry, I was just watching you practice, and I didn't plan on being caught in the act. The same can be said for May."
"It's okay, Lisia," Kairi said. Lisia then noticed Sora with her.
"Oh, and who are you?" Lisia asked.
"My name's Sora, and this is my Pikachu and my Ralts," Sora introduced.
"Ralts," Sora's Ralts said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Sora? Wait, as in Sora Ketchum, the Champion of the Kanto and Johto Pokémon Leagues?" Lisia asked.
"Um, yes?" Sora asked.
"Thought you looked familiar. Are you entering the Contest, too?" Lisia asked.
"No, Sora's actually participating in the Hoenn Pokémon League and the Battle Frontier," Kairi said.
"I'm only here to support Kairi and May," Sora said.
"Is that right? Well, it's good to know that any boyfriend supporting his girlfriend is always a good thing," Lisia said. Sora and Kairi blushed, figuring out that she knows Sora and Kairi are a couple. "I'm guessing you're wondering how I know, right? I sort have an eye for these sort of things, and you two have couple written all over your faces. And you make such a cute couple, too."
"Thanks, Lisia," Sora and Kairi said in unison. They looked at each other and blushed.
"Aren't they a match made in heaven?" A voice asked. Sora, Kairi, and Lisia heard the voice and they saw Vanitas walking up to them. "It's so sweet, it makes me sick to my stomach."
"You! You're the boy in the mask!" Sora exclaimed.
"Aren't you clever? The name's Vanitas. I was wondering when we were finally going to meet face-to-face, Sora, Kairi. A shame I don't have Ash, Leaf, Ethan, or Kris here, but I'll deal with them after I deal with you two," Vanitas said.
"Yeah, how?" Sora asked.
"Why should I just tell you when I can simply just show you?" Vanitas asked as he held out his hand. In a flash of darkness, a Keyblade appeared in his hand, surprising Sora, Kairi, and Lisia. Its teeth and head are black with a red outline and possesses a round, cog-like shape. The handle is red and the guard has the same coloration and cog-like shape as the teeth. The shaft is predominantly colored in shades of grey and sports a copper-colored gear in the center, with two intersecting, black chains wrapped around it. Two more chains are wrapped around the base of the shaft in a similar fashion. It also has two Gazing Eyes: one located in the head of the blade and one embedded in the hilt. Its Keychain is comprised of three small, copper gears and ends in a charm resembling two halves of a gear arranged in an S-shape. This Keyblade is known as the Void Gear.
"A Keyblade?!" Kairi exclaimed.
"You're a Keyblade wielder, just like us?!" Sora exclaimed.
"Nothing like you, idiot. Unlike you, I embrace the darkness while you do-gooders embrace the light. Summon your Keyblades and we can get started," Vanitas said. Sora and Kairi summoned their Keyblades and got ready to engage Vanitas.
"Lisia, get back," Kairi said.
"Okay," Lisia said as she and Ali got to safety, but they were still close enough to watch the fight behin.
"Let's see what you're made of," Vanitas said. The couple engaged Vanitas, so he blocked their Keyblades with his and he swung it at them, attempting to strike them down. Sora and Kairi swung their Keyblades, but Vanitas clashed his against theirs. Kairi casts her blizzard spell at him, but Vanitas just vanished and came from above. "Too slow!" He came down at her, but she blocked with her Destiny's Embrace. Sora came at Vanitas, but he blocked and performs a rushing slash, followed by a spinning slash. "Gotcha!" Sora blocked with his Keyblade and he fell backwards. Pikachu and Angel attacked with Thunderbolt and Swift and both Ralts used Psybeam, but Vanitas just used his Keyblade and blocked the combo attacks like he was holding a Lightsaber. He sends the combo attack at the Pokémon, hitting them all.
Not too far, May and her Beautifly were rushing by with Swablu in her arms when she saw Lisia and Ali.
"Lisia, what are you doing there?" May asked.
"May, stay back!" Lisia called out. May was about to ask why when she saw Sora, Kairi, and the Pokémon engaging Vanitas.
"Sora, Kairi?" May asked. She saw the Keyblade in Vanitas's hands and she was shocked to see what he's holding. "What?! Is that a Keyblade?!"
"That's what they called it," Lisia said.
"Taria," Ali said.
Vanitas jumps up and shoots lightning in a fan shape diagonally downward. Sora and Kairi were hit by the lightning. Vanitas gave Sora and Kairi a swing with his Keyblade, sending them backwards.
"Is that all you two have got? You're no different from the two Keyblade wielders I faced many years ago. Your time on this world is over," Vanitas said as he builds up dark fire and sends it at the couple.
"Sora, Kairi, no!" May cried.
"Oh, no!" Lisia exclaimed. Before the dark fireball could hit them, Rei came to their rescue by grabbing them both and jumped, doing a backflip.
"Glad I came just in time," Rei said, summoning her Star Cluster and held it up. "Heal!" Rei's cure spell heals the couple of their injuries. Just then, Riku, Naminé, Lyra, and their partners came running, summoning their Keyblades. Sora and Kairi looked up, seeing their master's face. She turned to Vanitas with a stern face. "Tell me! Where did you get that Keyblade! Keyblades are not tools you use just to push someone around!"
"Why don't you try your luck with us?" Riku asked.
"All of us," Sora said, standing up. Kairi steps in, rejoining the fight.
"You saved me the trouble of tracking you down one at a time. I'll start with all of you first, and then I'll go after the rest of them," Vanitas said.
"You did not just threaten my apprentices," Rei said, holding her Keyblade tightly.
"What's the word, Master?" Sora asked.
"Take him!" Rei ordered. Her apprentices obliged her and engaged Vanitas. Riku swung his Braveheart at him, but he blocked. He vanished and reappeared above Lyra, but Sora casts his thunder spell, hitting Vanitas as Marill fired Bubble Beam at him. Eevee fired Shadow Ball at Vanitas, but he blocked with his Void Gear, cutting the Shadow Ball like a watermelon. Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Lyra, and Rei kept on fighting the masked Keyblade wielder. He was strong, despite being outnumbered. The fight raged on, becoming more and more intense than the last second. Sora came at Vanitas and he shot a beam of light from his Keyblade, hitting him in the chest, sending Vanitas backwards. He fell on his back.
"Is he finished?" Lyra asked.
"I don't know, but he's down," Rei said.
"Just who is he?" Naminé asked.
"Let's take off that mask and find out," Rei said. She approached the fallen Keyblade wielder. Before she could remove the mask, Vanitas just laughed. He then got up on his feet.
"Looks like you win the first round. Working together, you're quite a team, but you can't stick together forever," Vanitas said as a corridor of darkness appeared right behind him. He slowly walks backwards towards it. "Consider yourselves on probation." Once he was in it, he vanished within the darkness.
"Probation? Probation for what?" Lyra asked.
"Marill?" Marill asked.
"I don't know what he meant by that, but I do know he'll be back and he's not going to back down," Rei said.
"Glad you're alright," May said. The Keyblade wielders turned to May and Lisia as they approached them.
"May, when did you get here?" Kairi asked.
"Just while you were fighting that boy. He was a little taller than I thought he would be," May said.
"Well, sorry we worried you. Just wasn't expecting him to come along," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Don't worry about it. The whole thing was quite a shocker," Lisia said.
"Well, she knows our secret," Riku said.
"I agree. We'll have to head back to the Pokémon Center right away. We can explain everything to her there," Rei said.
"Great, because I was on my way there when I spotted you," May said.
So, the group started to make their way back to the Pokémon Center. As soon as they got there, May had the injured Swablu checked in, so Nurse Joy had to make it a top priority to have Swablu healed from its injuries.
Joined by Brendan and Max, everyone explained to the Contest Idol about their abilities to use the Keyblade, and about the Heartless, the Nobodies, the Unversed, and about Organization XIII. Brendan was shocked to hear that the masked boy that had everyone talking is also a Keyblade wielder. Lisia was shocked to hear what they went through such as the realm of darkness.
"I can't believe that there's another Keyblade wielder out there other than you guys and those other two," Brendan said.
"Neither could we to be honest," Lyra said.
"Like I said, the whole thing is a shocker. But it was really incredible at the same time," Lisia said.
"During the fight, he mentioned there were others he dealt with. Who was he talking about?" Kairi asked.
"Like I know," Sora said.
"It's best not to dwell too much on it. The answers aren't just going to come just because we want them to," Rei said.
"She's right, Sora. It was only a matter of time before he shows up," Riku said.
"And he'll be gunning for Ash, Ethan, Leaf, and Kris sooner or later," Lyra said.
"Fair point. But I think we should let them know what's up," Sora suggested.
"I agree, Sora. I'll make contact with them and let them know we made contact and tell them to watch their backs. As for the five of you, I suggest you rest and recuperate. No stepping out for any reason until you have completely recovered from your injuries. Is that understood?" Rei asked.
"Yes, Master Rei," Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, and Lyra answered. Lisia giggled.
"I have a feeling it's just like this," Lisia said.
"Oh, it is," Brendan said.
A few moments later, May stood by the counter as Nurse Joy, Chansey, and Blissey came back with the Swablu, completely healed from its injuries.
"How's Swablu doing, Nurse Joy?" May asked.
"Swablu is fighting fit. It was a good thing you brought it in when you did," Nurse Joy said.
"Do you know how Swablu got hurt in the first place?" May asked.
"Judging by the injuries, I would think this little Swablu got into a fight with another Pokémon probably over territory or some food," Nurse Joy said.
"I'm glad you're okay now, Swablu," May said.
"Swablu," Swablu said as it flutters over to May and nuzzled her affectionately.
"It looks like Swablu likes you, May," Nurse Joy said.
"Well, I like you, too," May said. She then gets an idea and took out a Pokéball and held it. "How would you like to be my Pokémon?"
"Blu, Swablu, blu!" Swablu chirped. May tossed the Pokéball up and the Cotton Bird Pokémon flows inside. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "Welcome to the team, Swablu."
It was the day of the Contest, so Kairi and May have arrived to the Contest Hall.
"May, I just want to say, I don't care which one of us wins the Pokémon Contest. I just want to wish you the best of luck," Kairi said.
"Thanks, Kairi. But when we do face off against each other, I'm not going to go easy on you just because we're friends," May said.
"I don't want you to, May," Kairi said.
They shook hands, promising each other a good competition between them. Vivian has taken the stage as Lisia and Ali sits with Riku, Naminé, Lyra, Eevee, Azurill, and Marill during the Contest.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Thank you all for your patience! The Hoenn region Pokémon Contest and pride of Slateport City will now begin!" Vivian announced as the crowd cheered. "Now let's meet our judges! I'll begin with the director of the contest committee, Mr. Contesta! All of our judges are known to be fair, but firm! Next we have Mr. Sukizo, President of the Pokémon Lovers Club, and finally, Athena Minerva! The coordinator who earns their way towards victory will be honored with the esteemed Slateport City Ribbon! Those of you skilled enough to earn five Ribbons held in the Contests throughout the Hoenn region, you'll be allowed to compete in the ultimate test of all Pokémon Coordinators, the Hoenn region's Grand Festival! My name is Vivian, and I am completely honored to he your MC today!"
"It's been a long time since I've watched a Pokémon Contest," Rei said.
"Where are Sora, Brendan and Max?" Lyra asked.
"They went to check on May. They said they wanted to wish them luck," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"It's for the best. May and Kairi will need the support Sora, Brendan, and Max can give them," Rei said.
In the back, Kairi, Angel, and her Ralts sat on a bench as Sora, Pikachu, and his Ralts came in.
"Hey, Kairi," Sora greeted.
"Sora, you should be with Riku and the others," Kairi said.
"I know, but I wanted to come here and cheer you on from here. Same for my Ralts," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu added.
"Ralts, Ralts," Sora's Ralts said lovingly.
"Ralts, Ralts," Kairi's Ralts said just as lovingly.
"I appreciate it, Sora. Thank you," Kairi said lovingly.
"Anytime, Kairi," Sora said.
Over to May, she was shaking like a leaf in autumn. It was her very first contest.
"May. May. Earth to May, come in!" Brendan said.
"Huh?! Wha?!" May exclaimed as she looked at Brendan.
"You're not getting nervous, are you?" Brendan asked.
"Maybe a little, to be honest," May admitted.
"You'll do fine, May. You've been practicing for this for a while, and it'll pay off," Brendan said.
"You sure, Brendan?" May asked.
"I know so, May. It's also Kairi's first time in a Contest and you don't see her feeling nervous, are you?" Brendan asked.
"No," May answered.
"Look, if you feel nervous, your Beautifly will feel just as nervous," Brendan said.
"He's right, May. You and Beautifly will do awesomely," Max said. May smiled, feeling better.
"Thanks, Brendan," May said.
"Anytime, May. Anytime," Brendan said.
Unknown to them, Drew was listening on them and he just snickered.
"In the preliminary round, Coordinators and Pokémon are judged for performance qualities on the acts they worked hard on. Prepare yourselves on a display of beauty and provisions," Vivian announced.
Coordinators and Pokémon have done different performances that came and went.
"Wow, those performances are awesome," Lyra said.
"Marill," Marill said.
"Next up is constant 24! His friends all know him as Drew!" Vivian announced as Drew appeared on stage.
"There he is," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
Over to May, she watched Drew about to begin.
"That Drew. Thinks he's so special," May said.
Back to Drew on the stage, he took out a Pokéball.
"Oh yeah? Roselia! Go!" Drew called out as he threw his Pokéball. His Pokéball came out. His ace Pokémon made an elegant entrance on stage. "Now, use Petal Dance!" Roselia unleashed a flurry of flower petals.
"Roselia takes the stage with a simply gorgeous Petal Dance! Just fabulous!" Vivian announced. Roselia lands on its feet, striking an elegant pose.
Sora, Kairi, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, Angel, and the Ralts were watching from the back.
"Okay, that was impressive," Sora said.
"It's beautiful," May said.
"Use Stun Spore!" Drew ordered. Roselia spins around and around, unleashing Stun Spore from its roses. "Now, Magical Leaf!" Roselia fired Magical Leaf from its red rose.
"Outstanding! Magical Leaf and Stun Spore! They completely won over this audience precise teamwork!" Vivian announced.
"Now that's very pretty," Naminé said.
"And now it's time to finish up. Use Petal Dance!" Drew ordered. Roselia unleashed Petal Dance, and the Thorn Pokémon disappeared right in the wind of flower petals. "Magical Leaf!" Roselia fired Magical Leaf right at the flower petals. The leaves cuts the flower petals like paper. Roselia reappears as it bows to the audience along with Drew. The crowd cheered hardily for the performance he gave. "Perfect. What'd you expect?"
"So now we await the judge's opinions of that excellent performance," Vivian announced as Contesta gave Drew a 9.8, Sukizo gave him a 9.9, and Athena gave him a 9.7. The total added up to 29.4. "29.4! That's the highest score yet!"
"The highest score?!" Brendan exclaimed.
"He's better than I thought," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Your comments?" Vivian asked Athena.
"That was a great combination," Athena said.
"Yes. Remarkable," Sukizo said.
"And as for me, I was greatly impressed by their use of the entire stage," Contesta said.
"Looks like a stiff competition," Brendan said.
"Yeah, but that won't slow down Kairi and May, will it?" Sora asked.
"No way. There's nothing that will stop us," Kairi said.
"Eevee!" Angel said.
"Ralts, Ralts!" Kairi's Ralts said.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu said.
"Ralts, Ralts!" Sora's Ralts said.
"Nothing that will stop us," May said. May was amazed by how Kairi didn't seem nervous, and she remembered the promise that the two of them to give each other a good competition, and she wasn't going to break that promise.
Kairi was up next as the 38th Coordinator to go on. Drew walks up to her just when she was about to step right out to the stage.
"Hey, Kairi, wasn't it?" Drew asked.
"Yes? Something I can help you with?" Kairi asked.
"Just thought I'd wish you some good luck out there. You're going to need it," Drew said.
"Thanks, but no thanks, because a friend of mine always said that there's no such thing as luck," Kairi said. She heads right on stage, holding her Pokéball.
Over to May, she and her Beautifly sat on a bench as Drew approached her.
"Yo, I see you made it," Drew said.
"Hello, Drew," May greeted.
"I trust that you caught our performance. That was some true art," Drew said.
"What do you want? Just to come here to brag?" May asked.
"No, as a great Coordinator, I'm just here to cheer you on. See, I at least want you to make it through the preliminary round," Drew said as May stood up on her feet.
"Oh, just watch me, o' great one!" May said. May turned her head when she heard some cheering.
"And now the next Coordinator is taking the stage! She's making her debut here in the world of Contests, hailing from Pallet Town in the Kanto region, contestant number 38, Kairi!" Vivian announced as Kairi took out her Pokéball and threw it.
"Come out, Ralts!" Kairi called out. Her Pokéball opened and her Ralts emerged from inside, ready to perform. Kairi then took out the balls. "Get ready. Use Confusion on the balls!" Ralts manipulates the balls with her telepathic powers. She makes all sorts of shapes with the balls, captivating the audience. She starts by moving the balls to form three triangles and placed two at the bottom as the third is right on top. She then uses the balls to make the face of a raccoon, and then into a mushroom with eyes, catching everyone in awe. "Okay, Ralts! The finale!" Ralts uses her Confusion to form a heart with a star in the center.
"I have never seen anything like this before! Ralts is using the balls that Kairi has provided to make a unique use of her Ralts' Confusion by making all sorts of shapes, and now a heart with a star in the center! It has even me enraptured!" Vivian announced.
"Simply awe-inspiring," Lisia said, captivated.
"Wow, Kairi's practice has really paid off," Naminé said.
"It sure has. Too bad Ash, Leaf, Ethan, and Kris aren't here to see this," Lyra said.
"They're probably watching the event on TV right now," Rei said.
"Now use Psybeam!" Kairi ordered. Ralts fired Psybeam at the balls. The star in the center turns shiny gold as the heart has turned pink. Ralts stopped her using her Confusion to place the balls back with Kairi. The whole crowd cheered as Kairi and her Ralts bowed their heads. Contesta has given Kairi a 9.9, Suziko gave her a 9.8, and Athena gave her a 10. The total is 29.7.
"And on her debut, Kairi has made 29.7! Now let's hear what the judges has to say!" Vivian announced.
"I must say, I was completely amazed by that display," Contesta said.
"Remarkable!" Sukizo said.
"It was both adorable and creative at the same time. The finale is one of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed," Athena said.
Over to the back, Sora just smiled as he clapped with Pikachu, Angel, and his Ralts. Sora's Ralts was especially awestruck.
"That's the way, Kairi! Out of this world!" Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee, vee, vee!" Angel said.
Kairi came back with her Ralts in her arm.
"I hope you enjoyed that," Kairi said.
"I enjoyed every bit of it, Kairi," Sora said.
"Thanks, Sora," Kairi said.
"That was awesome, Kairi," May said.
"Thanks. Give it all you got out there," Kairi said.
"I will," May said.
The Contest went on to the last contestant.
"And now there is only one contestant left in the Slateport City Pokémon Contest. She is also making her Contest debut! Let's have a warm welcome for number 50, May!" Vivian announced as May entered the stage, holding her Pokéball.
"Break a leg, May," Brendan said.
"Let's watch her Pokémon's elegant entry!" Vivian announced.
"Okay, here goes," May said. She threw her Pokéball. "Beautifly! Take the stage!" Her Pokéball opened and her Beautifly appeared on stage.
"Wow, Beautifly's marvelous wings really do catch your eye!" Vivian announced, awestruck. May threw a frisbee.
"String Shot!" May ordered. Beautifly fired String Shot at the frisbee and sends it back.
"Excellent! And a clean catch!" Vivian announced.
"Again!" May shouted as she threw it again. Beautifly sends it back at May.
"They're really going strong now! That incredible combination is a show of May's grace!" Vivian announced.
"Yes! She's doing better than I thought she would. I was worried she'd slip," Brendan said.
"Me too," Max said.
"I guess it has something to do with the pep talk we had before," Sora said.
"Keep it up, May!" Kairi cheered.
"Eevee, vee!" Angel said.
"Ready for this, Beautifly? Gust! Let's go!" May ordered. Beautifly flapped her wings and sends the frisbee back at May. She ran to catch it.
"Now it's a return with a Gust! When she catches this one, it's going to mean some serious points!" Vivian announced as May jumped and she caught it. "And she catches it!"
"Time to finish this up, right? Silver Wind!" May ordered. Beautifly unleashed Silver Wind by flapping her wings. "Go into a spin!" Beautifly starts to spin around, creating a silver tornado.
"I don't believe my eyes! Beautifly is completely surrounded by its own spiraling Silver Wind! It almost looks like Beautifly is wrapped in a gorgeous silver robe!" Vivian announced.
"Look at that!" Riku exclaimed.
"Eevee!" Eevee said.
"It's breathtaking!" Lisia said.
"Her Beautifly was born to be on stage," Lyra said.
"Marill, Marill, Marill," Marill agreed.
"Well, what do you know," Drew said to himself.
Beautifly lands right on top of May's head as she does a pose. Everyone applauds and cheered hardily for May and her Beautifly for the elegant performance she pulled off.
"So let's find out what our judges think of May and Beautifly's performance," Vivian said. Contesta gave May a 9.3, Suziko gave her a 9.5, while Athena gave her a 9.1.
"Not bad for a first time performance," Athena said.
"I'd say she has a bright future ahead of her," Contesta said.
"She's just remarkable," Suziko said.
The total adds up to 29.9.
"May's total is a 29.9!" Vivian announced.
"Wow, I did better than I thought I did," May said.
"That wraps up our preliminary competition! In a moment, we'll be announcing who will move on to the second round!" Vivian announced.
"Kairi and May will be moving on, that's who," Lyra said.
"Well, they did gain enough points to make, so I don't doubt it for a second," Rei said.
May returns to Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, Angel, and the Ralts.
"Good job, May," Sora said.
"That was awesome!" Max said.
"Thanks, Sora. To be honest, I wasn't sure I was going to make even a 25," May said.
"I had the same thought, May," Kairi said. May looked at her. "Just remember the talk we had and you'll do fine."
"I won't forget," May said.
"Thank you all for your patience, ladies and gentlemen! We have made our decision on who will move on and here they all are!" Vivian announced as the screen shows the eight finalists. Kairi, May, and Drew are among the final eight.
"Yes! You made it, May!" Max said.
"Like there was some doubt," Brendan said.
"Well, they do judge on battling skills, too," Sora said.
"Oh, boy," May said.
"You'll be fine, May. You had some practice battling against me, Riku, and Lyra, so just keep your focus and you'll do fine," Sora said.
"He's right, May. Just keep your cool and trust in your Pokémon," Kairi said.
"I will," May said.
"The contestants are randomly being chosen to seen who will be facing off in battle," Vivian announced as the battles are chosen. They saw it's May against Drew in the first battle and Kairi against a different Coordinator in the second. The selection came to as a surprise to May, but Drew just snickered.
"May against me. This will be fun," Drew said in his thoughts.
A few minutes later, Sora, Brendan, Max, Pikachu, Angel, and Sora's Ralts rejoins their friends just when the battle was about to begin.
"It looks like you're just in time," Riku said.
"Looks like it," Brendan said. He looked at May and then right at Drew. He then said in his thoughts, "I know you can do it, May. Beat this guy good."
"To those are unfamiliar to the rules, the second round consists of Contest battles! Our contestants will have five minutes to show the judges their battling performance ability! And now, our battle on the first stage will begin!" Vivian announced as the clock starts running. May and Drew each took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Roselia, let's go!" Drew called out.
"Beautifly! Take the stage!" May called out.
Beautifly and Roselia both came out at once.
"Roselia's a Grass-type Pokémon, and Beautifly is a Flying-type Pokémon, so she's got this in the bag," Lyra said.
"I wouldn't count Drew out so soon, Lyra. I've seen Drew in action, and he's no slouch," Riku said.
"I agree. May will have to work hard to win it," Rei said.
"Use Magical Leaf!" Drew ordered. Roselia fired Magical Leaf right at Beautifly.
"Beautifly! Gust!" May ordered. Beautifly flapped her wings and she blocked the leaves coming at the Butterfly Pokémon.
"Nice block," Sora said.
"Don't ever mess around with me," Drew said. The leaves got past Beautifly's Gust and lands a successful hit onto Beautifly.
"No, Beautifly!" May gasped.
"Agh, I knew something like this would happen. Magical Leaf is a move that can't be dodged," Riku said.
May has lost a chunk of her points.
"Roselia! Use Stun Spore!" Drew ordered. Roselia sprinkles Stun Spore, paralyzing Beautifly.
"That Stun Spore is raining down on Beautifly!" Vivian announced.
"Use String Shot!" May ordered. Beautifly fired String Shot right at the Thorn Pokémon.
"Magical Leaf!" Drew ordered. Roselia fires Magical Leaf to cut the thread.
"This is bad. She's not used to battling," Sora said.
"But we practiced this," Brendan said.
"Use Silver Wind!" May ordered. Beautifly fired Silver Wind right at Roselia.
"Use Petal Dance!" Drew ordered. Roselia unleashed Petal Dance to cancel out Beautifly's Silver Wind and heads right at Beautifly.
"Beautifly! Move up to dodge it!" May called out. Beautifly flies and dodges Roselia's Petal Dance.
"Use Solar Beam!" Drew ordered. Roselia builds up energy to fire at Beautifly.
"Now Roselia is preparing to fire a Solar Beam! As it uses the last remaining moments to gather as much energy as possible, this could be the end!" Vivian announced.
"May, if you're going to make a move, now's the time!" Brendan called out to his crush.
"Use String Shot!" May ordered. Beautifly fired String Shot right at Roselia.
"And Beautifly makes its attack!" Vivian announced. Roselia fired Solar Beam, giving off a majestic glow of gold, pink, and turquoise
"What beautiful colors!" Contesta exclaimed, awestruck.
"Yes, remarkable!" Suziko said.
Roselia's Solar Beam hits its mark onto Beautifly, dealing some heavy damage.
"Wow, Solar Beam has landed a direct hit!" Vivian announced. Beautifly fell on the ground. "Precious few seconds remaining. Can Beautifly keep going?"
"Beautifly, please hang in there," May pleaded. The judges have stated that Beautifly is unable to battle.
"It's battle-off for Beautifly!" Vivian announced.
"Battle-off?" Sora asked.
"It means when the Pokémon was beaten before time runs out, then it's the end of the battle," Lisia explained. May was depressed over the loss she has. Kairi felt sorry for her and she knew she'll have to work hard for May if she wants to win the contest. Kairi stepped in to start the battle with a Coordinator named Jimmy.
"And now, our next battle is about to begin! On my right, it's Jimmy, and on my left is Kairi! Let's us see which one of these two will be moving on to the finals!" Vivian announced. The clock starts running. Kairi threw her Pokéball.
"Go! Ralts!" Kairi called out. Her Pokéball opened and her Ralts emerged from inside.
"I choose you, Farfetch'd!" Jimmy called out. A Kantonian Farfetch'd emerged from inside, ready to battle against Kairi and her Ralts. "Okay, Farfetch'd! Start things up with your Cut!" Farfetch'd charges right at Ralts with its stalk, ready to strike Ralts.
"Dodge it, Ralts!" Kairi called out. Jimmy has lost some of his points due to Ralts dodging.
"An elegant dodge by Ralts!" Vivian announced.
"Okay, Farfetch'd! Use Air Cutter!" Jimmy ordered. Farfetch'd unleashed blades of air by flapping its wings and they head right for Ralts.
"Farfetch'd is sending out a barrage of Air Cutters to land a hit on Ralts!" Vivian announced.
"Use Confusion to block!" Kairi ordered. Ralts blocks Farfetch'd's Air Cutter in its tracks. "Now, send them right back!" Ralts sends the air blades right back at the Wild Duck Pokémon and deals some heavy damage, costing Jimmy some points.
"Farfetch'd! Use Aerial Ace!" Jimmy ordered. Farfetch'd jumped and dashed at Ralts, landing a hit. Kairi has lost some points of her own. The clock reads 3:25.
"Jimmy and Farfetch'd are making a comeback with that styling Aerial Ace!" Vivian announced.
"Now, use Cut!" Jimmy ordered. Farfetch'd swings its leek at Ralts, landing another hit, making Kairi lose some more of her points.
"And Farfecth'd makes a a styling swing with that amazing Cut!" Vivian announced.
"Ralts! Use Disarming Voice!" Kairi ordered. Ralts let's out her Disarming Voice, hitting the Wild Duck Pokémon on the mark. Jimmy loses some more of his points.
"No way, I'm losing to some first timer! Farfetch'd! Use Leaf Blade!" Jimmy ordered. Farfetch'd holds its leek and ran towards Ralts to land a hit.
"Ralts! Use Psybeam!" Kairi ordred. Ralts unleashed Psybeam from her hands. The beam carries a varities of several colors. Jimmy has lost some points with a minute and forty-five seconds remaining.
"And Ralts pushes back with a Psybeam, letting out such beautiful colors!" Vivian announced.
"Use Aerial Ace!" Jimmy ordered.
"Use Confusion!" Kairi ordered. Farfetch'd dashed right at Ralts again, but not before being stopped by her Confusion.
"Ralts stops Farfetch'd clean in its tracks with its Confusion!" Vivian announced. Ralts sends Farfetch'd back and lands right into Jimmy. Farfecth'd was knocked out and the judges have declared a battle-out on Farfetch'd. "And it's all over for Jimmy! The winner is Kairi!" The crowd cheered hard for Kairi as Rei just smiled.
"Well done, my apprentice," Rei said in her thoughts.
Over to May, she was sulking over her defeat. Brendan comes up to her, wanting to comfort her.
"May, you okay?" Brendan asked with concern. May didn't answer him. "Come on, May. Talk to me."
"I stink, I couldn't do a thing," May finally spoke. Brendan was shocked to hear her say that. "I couldn't do anything. And to think that my Beautifly worked so hard out there. All I did was totally mess everything up out there. I feel awful." Tears ran down May's eyes.
"Oh, May, no. You don't stink. You did your absolute best out there. I mean it, May," Brendan assured his crush.
"You know, the only thing I could think about was how much it would be if I entered a Pokémon Contest and to perform side-by-side with Beautifly. But I..." May paused. "I never thought of how hard it would be to lose."
"Don't cry, May. Please, don't cry. I mean, losing is a hard thing. It happens to everyone," Brendan said.
"He's right, May," Lisia spoke up. "I'm not into Pokémon battles myself, but to me, Pokémon Contests are about having fun and making people happy. And today you made loads of people happy out there with your performance, even me," Lisia said. May sniffled a bit. "Now, wipe away those tears and smile." May wiped her tears away and smiled, feeling better.
"Thanks, you two," May said.
"That's what friends are for," Brendan said. Lisia could tell they were in love with each other and she smiled.
Drew won his next match. The battle was between his Roselia and a Galarian Mr. Mime. Kairi was now up next. Kairi's opponent is a young man named Franklin.
"Up next, it's Kairi and Franklin! Let's see how well these two Coordinators will go!" Vivian announced. The clock starts running. Kairi threw her Pokéball.
"Go! Ralts!" Kairi called out. Her Pokéball opened and Ralts emerged from inside.
"Go! Aipom!" Franklin called out. His Aipom came out to battle. His Aipom is male. "Okay, Aipom! Use Focus Punch!" Aipom heads right towards Ralts with a Focus Punch.
"Ralts! Use Disarming Voice!" Kairi ordered. Ralts unleashed Disarming Voice, hitting Aipom on the mark.
"Ralts makes a brilliant start by canceling out Aipom's Focus Punch with that Disarming Voice move!" Vivian announced.
"Not bad, Kairi! Here's my next one! Use Swift!" Franklin ordered. Aipom swings tail at Ralts, landing a hit. Kairi has lost some points of her own.
"Aipom strikes back with a Swift! How will Kairi respond to this?" Vivian asked.
"Use Swift again!" Franklin ordered. Aipom fired another Swift right at Ralts, hoping to land another hit on the Feeling Pokémon.
"Use Confusion to block!" Kairi ordered. Ralts blocked Aipom's Swift before the stars could land a hit on her.
"Fantastic! Ralts actually blocked that Swift by using its Confusion!" Vivian announced.
"Use Psybeam!" Kairi ordered. Ralts unleashed Psybeam right at Aipom.
"Double Team!" Franklin ordered. Aipom has made several copies of himself with Double Team.
"Ralts misses its mark thanks to Aipom's Double Team!" Vivian announced. The copies quickly surrounds Ralts and then they all vanished to reveal the real one standing right behind her.
"Use Focus Punch!" Franklin ordered. Aipom charges at Ralts with a Focus Punch.
"And here comes Aipom with a Focus Punch," Vivian announced.
"Right behind you!" Kairi called out. Ralts turned to see Aipom rushing up behind her and lands a punch onto her. Kairi has lost some points from that hit.
"Aipom lands a successful punch with that Focus Punch! And Franklin's making a good, hard push against Kairi!" Vivian announced.
"Focus Punch again!" Franklin ordered. Aipom rushes at Ralts with another Focus Punch, ready to punch her.
"Use Confusion!" Kairi ordered. Ralts stops Aipom with her Confusion and holds Aipom in the Psychic-type move.
"Now, Ralts has Aipom in a hold with her Confusion as we hit the one minute mark!" Vivian announced.
"Send Aipom down!" Kairi called out. Ralts brings down Aipom with a hard slam with her Confusion, dealing some more damage.
"Aipom! Use Swift!" Franklin ordered. Aipom unleashed Swift, striking Ralts and her points. " Swift again!" Aipom unleashed another Swift right at Ralts.
"Aipom unleashes another Swift onto Ralts! What shall Kairi do?" Vivian announced.
"Disarming Voice!" Kairi ordered. Ralts unleashed a Disarming Voice and cancels out Swift, making the stars disintegrate into dust. That costs Franklin some more of his points.
"Outstanding! Ralts' Disarming Voice completely disintegrated Aipom's Swift! We now enter the 30 second mark! It could be any one of these two gifted Coordinators!" Vivian announced.
"Okay, Aipom! Use Focus Punch!" Franklin ordered. Aipom tightened up his fist tail and comes right at Ralts.
"Use Psybeam!" Kairi ordered. Ralts fired Psybeam right at Aipom, but the Long Tail Pokémon dodges the attack.
"It looks like Aipom isn't taking any chances since Franklin wants to hit! We go into 10 seconds! 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!" Vivian announced as time ran out before Aipom could land a hit. "Time!" Aipom stops in his tracks. "And the winner is..." The screen shows Kairi has a little more points than Franklin does. "It's Kairi!" The crowd cheered as Franklin walked to Kairi and shook her hand.
"That was a fun battle, Kairi. And it wasn't bad for your first Contest," Franklin said.
"Thank you, Franklin. You gave it everything you had. I had fun, too," Kairi said.
"What we're witnessing is a good display of good sportsmanship after a trying battle!" Vivian announced.
"Well, it looks like I get my match with her after all," Drew said as he grinned.
A few moments later, Kairi and Drew have gotten ready for their match as Kairi looked right at May as she sat with her friends.
"Don't worry, May, I'll win this for the both of us," Kairi said in her thoughts.
"And here we are! The final battle of the Slateport City Pokémon Contest is about to begin! It's Kairi from Pallet Town against Drew from LaRousse City! Only one of them is going to win the Slateport Ribbon and get one step closer to entering the Grand Festival! Let the final round begin!" Vivian announced as Drew and Kairi both took out a Pokéball each.
"Roselia! Go!" Drew called out as his Roselia has entered the stage.
"Take the stage, Ralts!" Kairi called out.
Both of Ralts and Roselia had entered the battlefield and prepared to battle. Kairi cearly had the advantage over Roselia since being a Psychic-type, but at the same time, she was at a disadvantage, too, because Ralts is a Fairy-type, so she had to play keep her cool.
"Magical Leaf, Roselia!" Drew ordered. Roselia sends out Magical Leaf and it struck Ralts on the mark, making Kairi lose points.
"That was a good one. I can make good moves, too. Ralts! Use Psybeam!" Kairi ordered. Ralts unleashed Psybeam and struck Roselia hard. "Now use Disarming Voice!" Ralts unleashed Disarming Voice and it deals some damage on the Thorn Pokémon. Drew has lost some points as well.
"Drew has started off with a homing Magical Leaf while Kairi had made a comeback with a Psybeam as a retaliation and a Disarming Voice to deal some more damage on Drew's points! What kind of other tricks are they going to throw at each other?" Vivian asked.
"Stun Spore, Roselia!" Drew ordered as Roselia sends out Stun Spore to paralyze Ralts, but Kairi wasn't gonna fall for that trick.
"Ralts! Blow it back with Confusion!" Kairi ordered. Ralts blows back Roselia's Stun Spore with Confusion. Drew lost some more points.
"She blocked Roselia's Stun Spore with Confusion?!" Drew exclaimed. "Dodge it!" Roselia had managed to dodge its own Stun Spore. Kairi had lost a little more points.
"Amazing! Ralts blows back Stun Spore by using Confusion! I have never seen a Psychic-type move being used like this before! Luckily for Drew, Roselia has avoided paralysis from its own attack!" Vivian announced.
"Magicl Leaf!" Drew ordered. Roselia fires another Magical Leaf right at Ralts.
"Roselia sends out another Magical Leaf to strike at Ralts! What can Kairi hope to do against that?" Vivian asked. Kairi remembered a trick her boyfriend used in his battle against Misty and figured she would use it to her advantage.
"Ralts! Run around the stage!" Kairi called out. Ralts ran around the battlefield, making the leaves follow her around. Drew, the judges, and the audience were off guard when her Ralts would allow her to be chased around with Magical Leaf. Sora saw this move before.
"Now Ralts is making Magical Leaf chase it around and the attack is following it where it goes! What is she trying to pull off?" Vivian asked.
"Just a little longer," Kairi said in her thoughts.
"What is she up to? Magical Leaf can't be dodged. What is she trying to accomplish?" Drew asked in his thoughts. Ralts gets in front of Roselia as Magical Leaf hones in onto the Feeling Pokémon.
"Wait a minute! Could that be?!" Vivian asked. Ralts jump up in the air at the last minute as Magical Leaf had made contact with Roselia. Drew lost a huge sum of points as the clock has ran up to two minutes. "Yes! Kairi made Roselia take the hit from its own attack! I doubt Drew was expecting this turn of events!"
"A very clever use of Magical Leaf in my opinion," Mr. Contesta said.
"Very remarkable!" Mr. Suziko said.
"I have never seen anything like this before. This girl is just full of surprises," Athena said.
The clock runs down to a minute and fifteen seconds.
"I better wrap this up fast! Roselia! Solar Beam!" Drew ordered. Roselia begins to build up energy for Solar Beam.
"Roselia seems to be using up precious seconds of the remaining minute to build up Solar Beam! Will Drew land a hit?!" Vivian asked.
"He's using Solar Beam now?" Lyra asked.
"Drew must wanted to end it now if he's using up seconds for Solar Beam," Riku said.
"You're right. I hope Kairi can think of something," Naminé said.
"I know she will. She did great in her last Contest battle and won her ribbon," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee, vee!" Angel called out.
"Ralts, Ralts!" Sora's Ralts cheered.
Roselia fires Solar Beam as a cascade of colors travels along the beam of energy. The colors consisted of pink, sky blue, light green, and silver.
"What a beautiful set of colors to go with that Solar Beam! Will it land a it?!" Vivian asked. Kairi waited for Solar Beam to come closer. And then...
"Ralts! Move to your left!" Kairi called out. Ralts swerves to the left and Solar Beam had missed its mark. Drew has lost some points as a result.
"And that answers that!" Vivian announced as the clock had run out. Kairi has much higher points than Drew did. "And it's Kairi who is the winner!" The crowd cheers on. Kairi's family were all proud of her for her win. Sora was very proud of Kairi for winning her first Pokémon Contest. Kairi is presented her first Contest ribbon. "The Slateport City Ribbon is presented to Kairi and her Ralts! That means the Slateport City Pokémon Contest is offically over! Until next time!"
Kairi has won her first Pokémon Contest and her very first ribbon, so she will need just four more to enter the Grand Festival, but the journey will continue on towards Mauville City as Sora will have a shot for his third Hoenn Gym Badge, so stay tuned until the next time.
