Episode 242: Jump For Joy
Where we last off, May was starting to get in touch with her newfound ability to wield the Keyblade. Rei was teaching her the basics. May swung her Keyblade around in the air. May practiced her combat skills and she practiced her magic, learning to use fire, thunder, and cure first. As May was practicing with her Keyblade, Sora and Kairi decided that Riku, Ash and the others should know about this. Sora dialed Riku's number.
Over to Riku, Naminé, Eevee, and Azurill, Namine has spotted a green Oddish with light green leaves on top of its head. Namine decided that she should catch herself some additional Pokémon since she'll be doing some battling of her own. She remembered that she can catch a Pokemon without being seen by them, so she ducked her head down in the tall grass. She took out a Pokéball and threw it at the Weed Pokémon, making it flow inside. The Pokéball wobbles around for a bit until stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch.
"Yay! I caught my first one!" Naminé cheered.
"Great job, Naminé," Riku said. His Rotom Phone suddenly starts ringing. He saw it was Sora calling him. "Sora's calling."
"So soon?" Naminé asked.
"Better hear what he wants to say," Riku said, answering the phone. "Hey, Sora."
"Riku, hope you're not too busy," Sora said from his end.
"Not too busy. Naminé has just made her very first catch. What's up?" Riku asked.
"Okay, we were attacked by Heartless a little while ago and they were showing up like crazy, but that's not what I'm calling you about?" Sora said.
"Then, what?" Riku asked.
"Okay, the thing is, May now has a Keyblade of her own," Sora said. Riku's eyes almost busted out of his head when Sora said it.
"You're not yanking my chain, are you?" Riku asked.
"If I was, then you would be laughing about it right now, but it's true. A Keyblade appeared in her hands and she helped us take out those Heartless. Master Rei is already teaching her the basics," Sora said.
"I guess Bahamut was right about there being others besides us. Does Ash and the others know about this?" Riku asked.
"Not yet. You and Namine will be the first ones to know," Sora said.
"Well, thanks for the heads up, Sora. I'll hear from you later," Riku said, breaking contact.
"What did he have to say, Riku?" Naminé asked.
"Sora, Kairi, and the others were attacked by Heartless, and now May has a Keyblade," Riku explained.
"May? May has a Keyblade?" Naminé asked.
"I know you find it hard to believe, but it's true," Riku said. He sighed to himself. "Here we are, looking for others that can use the Keyblade, and one of them was right under our noses all along," Riku said.
"I guess it's true what they say; it could be someone you least suspect," Naminé said.
"Yeah, you're right. They could be much closer than we think," Riku said.
Back to Sora and his friends, Sora dials Ash's number as Kairi dialed Lyra.
Ash, Leaf, and Lyra were surprised to hear May is now a Keyblade wielder. It also meant they have a new classmate. Sora gave Ethan a call and told them about May has a Keyblade of her own. Ethan and Kris were shocked to hear it, but Kris had hoped it was May because she didn't want to think she was searching for nothing.
As for May, she was pooped from the training she was doing.
"Wow, who would have thought being a Keyblade wielder would be so hard?" May asked.
"Well, I did warn you that I wasn't going to easy on you, May. But you trained enough for today, so get some rest. And you shouldn't forget about your obligations on being a Pokémon Coordinator," Rei said.
"Yes, Master Rei," May said.
"And one more thing, I think you should know," Rei stated.
"Yes?" May asked.
"You must use your Keyblade as a last resort with the exception of Organization XIII, the Heartless, Unversed, and Nobodies. You must never use your Keyblade for personal gain. That includes Pokémon Contests, May," Rei said.
"I promise, I won't misuse my abilities, Master," May said.
"I'm glad we had this talk," Rei said.
May proceeded to have herself a rest after the rigorous training she's been through.
A few hours later, Tai, Kari, and their friends joined Sora, Kairi, Rei, Brendan, May, Max, Pikachu, and Angel for a while.
Over to the World That Never Was, Saïx appeared before Xemnas in the throne room.
"Lord Xemnas, another wielder of the Keyblade has been revealed. She is located in the Hoenn region," Saïx reported.
"I knew it was only a matter of time before another one has awaken the power within them since Sora and Kairi were sent in the realm of darkness. Have you identified the new Keyblade wielder yet?" Xemnas asked.
"She is the daughter of the Petalburg City Gym Leader," Saïx replied.
"An unexpected turn of events for the Gym Leader," Xemnas said. "It will only be a matter of time before another one will be revealed."
"And this power will be born through sleep just like the others," Saïx said.
"Indeed. We will have to make arrangements soon," Xemnas said.
"Who shall I send next?" Saïx asked.
"I believe Luxord and Larxene has yet to test them. Perhaps any one of them," Xemnas said.
"I will make the arrangements right this minute," Saïx said, taking his leave through the corridor of darkness.
Meanwhile, Nurse Joy is in the laboratory of a nearby Pokémon Center, typing on her computer. Suddenly a breeze blows in. Feeling, the breeze, Nurse Joy turned to the window which was suddenly opened.
"I'm sure I just closed that," Nurse Joy said, standing up. A stronger breeze blows in as a shadowy figure jumps in through the window. She turned to see that the shadowy figure was a Shiftry. Nurse Joy just screamed in terror.
Joined by Tai, Kari, and their friends, Sora, Kairi, Brendan, May, Max, Lisia, Rei, Pikachu, and Angel heads for the Pokémon Center.
"Here it is. The Pokémon Center," Matt said.
"The air is so clean and the forest is so pretty," May said.
"It sure is. I'm sure we could have a hike through the woods later on," TK said.
"We should ask Nurse Joy where the best parts are for exploring. Maybe lead us to some rare Pokémon," Max suggested.
"We could do that, Max, after we have ourselves a good rest first," Sora said.
"I'm with him, because I could use a hot, steamy bath," Mimi said.
"Well, I could use one, too since we're covered head-to-toe in dirt, and I could wash off all this sweat," Sora T said.
Everyone stepped in the Pokémon Center and walked up to the counter.
"Hey, shouldn't Nurse Joy be here?" Davis asked.
"Maybe she went on a lunch break," Kari said.
"But it seems pretty early for lunch, don't you think?" Brendan asked.
"Brendan has a point. Something's up," Izzy said. Pikachu then picked up a strange scent in the air.
"What is it, Pikachu?" Sora asked. Pikachu jumped off his shoulders, alerting everyone. "Pikachu, wait!" Pikachu climbed up the stairs. "Come back here, Pikachu!"
"Slow down, Pikachu!" Kairi said.
"Vee," Angel said.
Pikachu went right inside and he saw what looks like a small blue puddle. Finding it to be strange, Pikachu decided to investigate this. The Mouse Pokémon too a whiff and suddenly fell asleep.
The group all looked inside and they gasped when they saw that the lab was empty and some papers were scattered on the ground.
"What the?!" Sora exclaimed in shock.
"What happened in here?" Yolei asked.
"Someone must have broken in," Cody guessed. Sora spotted his partner on the ground.
"Pikachu!" Sora gasped. The rest of the group spotted him.
"What happened to Pikachu?" Lisia asked. Sora ran up to his partner.
"Pikachu, what's wrong? Speak to me, bud.." Sora felt drowsy, "...dy." He fell right asleep as well.
"Sora!" Kairi gasped.
"He's asleep?" Tai asked.
"What could have happened?" Rei asked.
"Are they okay?" Ken asked.
A breeze blew in, so Izzy and Joe caught a glimpse of the blue powder being picked up by the wind.
"Izzy, did you just see that?" Joe whispered.
"I saw it, Joe. I think it was Sleep Powder," Izzy said.
"I thought it was which explains why Pikachu was suddenly sleeping," Joe whispered.
Meanwhile, Shiftry is seen carrying Nurse Joy over its shoulder and there is a Shroomish riding on its head. Shiftry jumped from tree-to-tree. A small group of Seedot jumped up and grabbed onto some tree branches with their tops.
"Keep anyone from interfering!" - Shiftry subtitle.
"On it, boss!" - Seedot subtitle.
Back to the Pokémon Center, Kairi shakes her boyfriend awake.
"Sora, wake up, please!" Kairi pleaded. Sora stirs awake. "Sora, thank goodness you're okay."
"I don't know what happened. All I know is when I picked up, Pikachu, I felt sleepy and I fell asleep," Sora said.
"I think I know the cause of it," Joe said, walking up. He spotted a blue speck of dust on Pikachu's nose. "It was this."
"What is it?" Kairi asked.
"It's Sleep Powder. Pikachu must have breathed this in when he went up here," Joe said.
"But how'd it get in here?" Sora asked.
"Guys, you should see this," Izzy said. Everyone looked at Izzy. "Distribution of Pokémon in or around the Pokémon Center. It's signed by Nurse Joy."
"I think she was doing some research on the Pokémon living around here in the area," May said.
"I do too," Izzy said. Max spotted a security camera in the room.
"Aha! There's a security camera!" Max said.
"Maybe we can get to the bottom of what happened here," Matt said.
"And what happened to Nurse Joy," Kari added.
"Well, there's one way to find out, everyone," Rei said.
They went to the surveillance room of the Pokémon Center and rewind right to when Nurse Joy was typing on her computer.
"Here's Nurse Joy," TK said.
"That means she was in that room until just a while ago," Lisia said.
They watched her walk up to the window to close it, but the wind blew in and Shiftry jumped right behind her.
"Stop!" Tai said. Max paused it.
"What is that thing?" Davis asked.
"It's a Shiftry," Ken answered.
"But it doesn't explain how that Sleep Powder got in there, because Shiftry can't use that move," Izzy said.
"Maybe we should watch some more and maybe see it for ourselves before we jump into any more conclusions," Sora T suggested.
"She's right. Hit play," Tai said. Max hits play as Shroomish jumps out of Shiftry's beard and sprinkled Sleep Powder into Nurse Joy's face. Nurse Joy fell asleep, so Shiftry catches her. Shroomish gets on Shiftry's head and they go out the window.
"That explains it. Shiftry can't use Sleep Powder, but Shroomish can. Why did he just take her and leave?" Kairi asked.
"That's a good question," Izzy said.
"But where did Shiftry take her?" May asked.
"Another good question," Izzy said.
"Maybe we should go and rescue her before something happens," Lisia said.
"Okay, we'll head out and rescue Nurse Joy and bring her back," Sora said.
"I'll stick around here just in case someone comes in. Besides, someone has to keep an eye on things," Rei said.
"Are you sure, Miss Sakura?" Cody asked.
"I'm sure, Cody. Besides, there were other Nurse Joys who taught me how to care for Pokémon when I was younger," Rei said.
"But where do we go from here?" Lisia asked.
"I think I have a good idea where," Brendan said, looking out the window.
"You do?" Yolei asked.
"Yeah. We head for that giant tree out in the distance," Brendan said.
"Why there?" Matt asked.
"My dad's a Pokémon researcher, so one of the things I learned from him is that Shiftry lives in trees that are said to be over a thousand years old, so that'll be our target," Brendan said.
"Good thinking, Brendan," Tai said.
"I guess that bath will have to wait," Mimi said.
"You don't have to come with us, Mimi. You can stay behind, too, and have your bath," Matt said.
"Thanks, Matt, but I can live with being sweaty a little while longer. Besides, I'm already used to it," Mimi said, smiling. Matt smiled back, finding her smile to he very cute.
"Not even a horde of hungry Monochromon couldn't keep her away," Matt said in his thoughts.
"Okay, let's go!" Sora said.
With that said, Sora, Kairi, Brendan, May, Max, Lisia, Tai, Kari, Matt, TK, Sora T, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, Davis, Ken, Yolei, Cody, Pikachu, and Angel set out to save the Pokémon Center's nurse.
Meanwhile, Shiftry is still carrying the sleeping nurse as he hopped on rock-to-rock by a river. A dozen Nuzleaf appeared and they get ready for any invader to come.
Back with the group, they raced towards the giant tree in the forest.
"That tree's even further away than it looks," May said.
"At least we're heading in the right direction," Sora T said.
Just then a bunch of Oddish appeared and cut their path going forward.
"Those are Oddish!" Max exclaimed.
The Oddish jumped and sprinkled a purple powder from their leaves.
"They're using Poison Powder!" Kari gasped.
"Leave this to me!" May said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Beautifly! Let's go!" Her Pokéball opened and her Beautifly emerged from inside. "Use Gust to blow the Poison Powder away!" Beautifly flapped her wings and successfully blew the Poison Powder away, but the Oddish were just gone. "What happened to the Oddish?"
"I don't know, but we should get moving before more show up," Kairi said.
"Right," the group all said as they continued to run towards the tree.
Speaking of which, Shiftry and Shroomish arrived to the tree. The Wicked Pokémon places the nurse down.
Back to the group, they keep on going towards tree.
"It's kinda dark and creepy in this forest," Cody said.
Suddenly a bunch of eyes opened through the bushes.
"What's that?" Lisia asked.
She got her answer when the eyes all belonged to a squadron of Seedot.
"Those are Seedot!" TK exclaimed. The Seedot fired seeds right at the group.
"They're using Bullet Seed!" Brendan also exclaimed.
"Run!" Sora yelled as they retreated behind some bushes. "Okay, first we get attacked by Oddish and now we're jumped by a bunch of Seedot. Does anybody here sense a pattern?"
"I do. I think those Oddish were just a warning," Ken said.
"They must have ran off to warn the those Seedot that we were coming their way," Cody said.
"And it looks like you're right, because I see them," Sora said as the Oddish showed up.
"I bet they were helping that Shiftry somehow," Brendan said.
"Well, Seedot evolves into Nuzleaf with some experience in battle, and then into Shiftry with a Leaf Stone, so it makes total sense Seedot and Shiftry would be working together," TK said.
"But what's with the Oddish?" Davis asked.
"They must be good friends with the Oddish, so that could be why they're helping out those Seedot," Kari said.
"Well, they definitely don't want us going forward," Joe said.
"Like that's gonna stop us," Tai said, taking out his Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Flame!" His Pokéball opened and his Charizard came out. "Use Flamethrower to scare them off!" Flame fired Flamethrower at the Seedot and Oddish. The Grass-type Pokémon all fled from the large Charizard.
"That was some quick thinking, Tai," Sora T said.
"Yeah, that sent them running," Mimi said.
"It's common knowledge that Grass-type Pokémon are weak against Fire-type moves," Izzy said.
"We should keep going before those Seedot and Oddish come back," Matt said.
"Matt's right. Let's go," Sora said.
They continued on towards the tree, knowing they they'll be running into some more problems soon.
Back to the tree, Nurse Joy stirs awake to see Shiftry staring back at her. She ends up being scared of the Wicked Pokémon and backed away a little.
Back to the group, they made it the river.
"We're on the right path alright! Shiftry had to come by this river to get to that tree!" Ken said.
Suddenly, water erupts, alarming the group. The squad of Nuzleaf jumped out of the tree.
"Nuzleaf! I knew it!" Sora exclaimed. The Nuzleaf fired Bullet Seed at them.
"Run for it!" Lisia shouted.
"Where?!" Sora exclaimed.
"Anywhere!" May also exclaimed.
"There's nowhere to hide!" Kairi said.
Back to the tree, Nurse Joy tried to run, but she saw she's high up in the giant tree.
"Someone, help me!" Nurse Joy shouted.
Back to the group, they were running from the Nuzleaf firing Bullet Seed at them.
"Okay, time to clear the path!" Sora said, taking out Taillow's Pokéball and tossed it up. "Taillow! Come out!" Taillow flew out of his Pokéball, ready to go. "Use Wing Attack!" Taillow flew right behind the Nuzleaf and smacked them all with his wings. The Nuzleaf retreats into the bushes. "Great job, Taillow." He called back his Taillow.
"We showed those Nuzleaf who's boss," Davis said.
"We?" Kairi asked.
"Get real, Davis. It was Sora 2's Taillow that saved us and you know it," Yolei said.
"But those Nuzleaf were waiting to ambush us," Max said.
"And they're trying to stop us since she is up there," Joe said.
"If you ask me, they were being awfully rude," Mimi said.
"We better get to that tree and be ready for any more surprises," Tai said.
"Shroomish!" A voice yelled.
They all stopped to see Shroomish jump out of the trees and launched their attack with Bullet Seed.
"Shroomish too?!" Brendan exclaimed.
"Okay, my turn!" Davis said, taking out his Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Bagon!" His Pokéball opened and his Bagon emerged from inside, ready to go. "Bagon! Use Flamethrower!" Bagon spewed a Flamethrower at the Mushroom Pokémon, sending them running.
With that said, the group continued towards the tree.
Speaking of which, Nurse Joy is backed to a wall, scared out of her mind.
"Well, what is it that you want with me, Shiftry?" Nurse Joy asked. Suddenly, Shroomish, Oddish, Seedot, and Nuzleaf all entered the chamber and came up to Nurse Joy. "Shroomish, Oddish, Seedot, and Nuzleaf? What are you all doing here? What's going on? Where am I anyway?" A wind blew into the chamber of the tree, so the Grass-type Pokémon cleared a path for her. A Seedot hopped over to her. "You want me to follow you, Seedot?" The Acorn Pokémon nodded and the nurse followed it. She gasped when she saw a Nuzleaf laying on some leaves like it was a bed, sweating. "What's the matter?" She placed her hand on Nuzleaf's chest. "It's not doing well. It has a fever." She turned around. "Is that why you brought me here? Was it just so I called take care of this little guy?" Shiftry nodded. A Nuzleaf jumped in.
"Boss, we got a huge problem! A big group of humans have gotten past our forces and they're heading right this way!" - Nuzleaf subtitle. Shiftry growled.
"This cannot stand!" - Shiftry subtitle. A wind picks up and Shiftry swiftly jumped out of the tree to deal with the intruders himself.
Back with the group, they're still heading for the tree and they felt a wind being blown their way. Pikachu and Angel hears the sound of Shiftry's movements.
"You hear that?" Kairi asked.
"I hear it," Sora said.
Shiftry jumped from tree-to-tree and lands right in front of the group.
"Shiftry!" The group exclaimed.
"Okay, Shiftry! We know you got Nurse Joy," Sora said. Shiftry points forward. "Brendan, let's the both of us take on this Shiftry together."
"Okay," Brendan said, obliging Sora. Sora and Brendan each took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Treecko!" Sora and Brendan shouted. Both Treecko came out to battle against Shiftry. Sora's Treecko placed his twig in his mouth.
"Brendan and I will keep Shiftry busy! You guys go and get to the tree!" Sora said.
"Okay, Sora," Kairi said.
"Take him down!" Tai said.
"Pikachu, you go, too!" Sora said.
"Pika," Pikachu said as he goes with the rest of the group.
Some of the Shroomish, Seedot, Nuzleaf, and Oddish tried to stop them, but Angel fired Swift on the Grass-type Pokémon, forcing them to retreat.
"Treecko! Use Bullet Seed!" Brendan ordered. Brendan's Treecko fired Bullet Seed right at Shiftry, but the Wicked Pokémon moves too fast for him.
"Treecko! Use Leafage!" Sora ordered. Sora's Treecko fired Leafage at Shiftry, but easily dodges Sora's Treecko's Leafage. Both Treecko rushed at Shiftry, but they were matching speed with speed, but Shiftry was easily overpowering the two Wood Gecko Pokémon.
Over to the group, they finally made it to the tree.
"Here's the tree!" Davis said.
"Now all we gotta do is climb it," May said.
Everyone started to climb up the tree. They eventually made it to the top of the tree and head inside. Nurse Joy is wiping off the sweat off of the sick Nuzleaf.
"Nurse Joy!" Kairi called out. Her voice alerted the Grass-type Pokémon and the nurse turned to see the group coming towards her.
"Oh no! The Shroomish, Oddish, Seedot, and Nuzleaf have her trapped!" Max said.
"What are all of you doing here?" Nurse Joy asked.
"We're here to help you, Nurse Joy!" Sora T said.
"We know it was that Shiftry was the one who took you and brought you here!" Davis said.
"And I appreciate it," Nurse Joy said. Joe then sees the sick Nuzleaf.
"Wait a minute! Look over there! That Nuzleaf isn't looking too good," Joe said.
"I get it! Could that be the reason Shiftry brought you here? Was it just to tend to this Nuzleaf?" Kairi asked.
"Yes, it was," Nurse Joy said.
"Oh, the poor thing," Kari said, feeling sorry for the sick Nuzleaf.
"That explains why those Pokémon were trying to stop us from getting here," Lisia said.
"What do you mean?" Nurse Joy asked.
"We bumped into that Shiftry on the way over here," Lisia said.
"Two of our friends are battling with that Shiftry right now," Davis said.
"Oh no! There's no need to battle with Shiftry! I'm going to need your help with an emergency treatment for this Nuzleaf, then when we're finished, think you can take me to Shiftry?" Nurse Joy asked.
"Sure," the group all said.
The battle continued as Shiftry and the two Treecko continued to hold their own against the Wicked Pokémon. Shiftry unleashed a powerful gust of wind and took out both Treecko.
"Treecko!" Sora and Brendan exclaimed.
"Shiftry, stop!" Nurse Joy called out. Shiftry, Sora and Brendan turned to see Nurse Joy walking with Kairi and Joe. "It's okay, Shiftry. You don't have to fight them anymore. I promise you, I'll take good care of your little friend, and he'll be okay." Sora and Brendan were caught off guard by what Nurse Joy just said.
"Huh?" Sora asked.
"Little friend?" Brendan asked.
"What is she talking about?" Sora asked.
"One of the Nuzleaf is sick with a fever," Joe explained.
"So Shiftry didn't take Nurse Joy just to be mean; he only took her to help cure him," Kairi said.
"Shiftry was only looking out for Nuzleaf, so he figured Nurse Joy could help," Joe added.
"So that's what all that fuss was all about. It was all because of one of his own was sick, so he needed help," Sora said.
"Shiftry is a good leader looking out for the others. I'll take care of everything, but I don't have some of the supplies I need with me," Nurse Joy said. Shiftry was shocked to hear her she didn't have what she needed, realizing his mistake. "We did everything we can to keep Nuzleaf comfortable, but I need some of my medicines, so I need to go back to the Pokémon Center and get them."
"How are you going to do it, Nurse Joy? The Pokémon Center is pretty far from here," Brendan pointed out.
"Yes and no," Joe said. Sora, Brendan, Nurse Joy, and Shiftry all looked at Joe. "Shiftry, I'm going to need you to carry me there, if you would." Shiftry nodded. Joe held onto Shiftry, so he takes off. Joe almost dropped his glasses as Shiftry dashed off. Shiftry dashed from tree-to-tree. They reached the Pokémon Center with Rei waiting inside.
"What happened? Is everything alright?" Rei asked.
"Everything's fine. Shiftry only took Nurse Joy to help treat a Nuzleaf that's sick with a fever, so we need the medicine to help break the fever," Joe said.
"I understand," Rei said. She helped Joe get the medicine Nurse Joy needed, so they went back to the tree. Nurse Joy gave the sick Nuzleaf the medicine. They waited until the Nuzleaf stood up, feeling better.
"It worked!" Sora said.
"Nuzleaf's going to be just fine," Nurse Joy said.
"That's a huge relief," Kairi said.
"Thank you for all of your help," Nurse Joy said.
Shiftry smiled and then started to take off.
"Where's Shiftry going?" Max asked.
"I don't know," Brendan asked.
They all made it back to the Pokémon Center, so Sora brought out his egg.
"Nurse Joy, I was wondering if you could have a look at my egg. My Pikachu found it on the beach in Slateport City, so I thought I'd have you look at it," Sora said.
"Of course," Nurse Joy said, examining the egg. The egg started to react. "Hmm, I would say this egg is getting closer to hatching. You should keep an eye on it."
"I'll do that, Nurse Joy," Sora said.
After getting some confirmation from Nurse Joy and some needed rest, Sora, Kairi, Brendan, May, Max, Lisia, Rei, Tai, Kari, Matt, TK, Sora T, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, Davis, Ken, Yolei, Cody, Pikachu, and Angel took off as Nurse Joy, the wild Shroomish, Oddish, Seedot, and Nuzleaf waved goodbye as the one she treated is being carried in her arms. Shiftry watches them from below. They did learn that life can be a real scream.
