Justice Across Space and Time

Chapter 40

This time will have Izuku dealing with the exam. As well as how some others will handle the challenges, given certain members from the canon are no longer around. So on with the show.

(No POV)

"They got through that first wave of attacks pretty easy Sho. What do we do now?" said boy's classmate, Nakagame Tatami, says after recovering a ball she had thrown. And then dodging a counterattack sent her way by retracting into herself. Her and a few others dodge attacks sent by Kyoka breaking apart the ground. Then Shoji and Sato grab parts of the ground she broke apart and threw them at their enemies. As well as a few of their balls to hit some targets.

This manages to knock out one person and disrupt the other attacks the crushers sent to the UA group. The black-haired teen Shindo Yo grits his teeth before saying, "we'll go for broke! Get clear guys! Tremoring Earth!" He slams his palms onto the ground before unleashing his quirk on the ground.

The resulting impacts and vibrations break apart the battleground. Scattering all of the members of class 1-A and separating others. Izuku snaps out of his surprise and quickly floats away from the collapsing ground. In another part of the stadium, Inasa takes his chance with his Whirlwind quirk and quickly eliminates 120 applicants. To the shock of the proctor. "While Justice finished faster than anyone else, Yorashi has eliminated more than anyone else previously!" Inasa gives a loud proud thank you to Yokumiru before heading to the waiting area.

Izuku thinks about the coordination the Ketsubutsu students applied, as well as using the knowledge of the UA applicants' quirks to plan their strategy. "But I bet they aren't the onl-!" Izuku then feels a ringing in his head before back bending to dodge a ball heading his way. Right as he is coming up though, the female student from Shiketsu high rushes at him.

She quickly grabs his head between her thighs before spinning and trying to slam him to the ground. But Izuku uses Float and a bit of kinetic venting from his elbows and feet to keep from impacting the ground. Before he can try to grab the girl, she lets go before cartwheeling away. "Not bad. You dodged the first attack, but even when you were caught off guard you were able to recover." The girl says before slipping away.

Izuku looks around but can't tell where his opponent will be coming from. 'Does her quirk have to do with stealth? Like Hagakure's? Or maybe-' before Izuku can finish his thought, the ringing starts in his head again. He can't tell what it is, other than it is telling him to get out of the area. Izuku then rockets up with a kinetic blast before letting Float take over. And right where he was standing, the girl who attacked him before was there. Looking slightly disgruntled.

"I thought for sure my stealth skills would be enough to throw you off. How did you know I was coming?" "Call it a hunch." "Ha hahaha! Well as useful as those hunches are, you might want to think things through a bit more when you have them." The girl says before a barrage of target balls fly toward Izuku. He curses under his breath before floating around to dodge the attacks.

'Better stick to the ground. I'm too much of a target right now.' Izuku thinks as he lands. Before wondering how the rest of his classmates were doing. Ochaco herself having landed away from the others and was trying to hide from the competition. But they quickly found her and tried to knock her out of the running.

Upon seeing Ochaco being set upon by a few others, Izuku grabs her with Blackwhip and then floats the two of them to behind some broken up rocks and earth. "Whoa….. that was nuts! Thanks, Midoriya." Ochaco says when the two land on the ground. "No problem… we should wait here to catch our breath." Izuku says while panting slightly.

While he is catching his breath, Ochaco is sneaking up on him with a ball in her hand. "I wouldn't do what you're thinking of." Izuku says before quickly letting out some Blackwhips and his own kinetic tendrils. They quickly wrap up Ochaco's arms before tying her up a few other ways. "Midoriya! What are you!?" "Who are you actually?" Izuku says with a serious expression. Ochaco then smiles before saying, "What gave me away?"

"Those hunches again. And the fact that you called me Midoriya. Ochaco calls me Izuku." "Oh so you're at that level~?" the girl, Utsushimi Camie, said with a teasing lilt. This make Izuku blush before trying to say it wasn't like that. But he didn't notice that he'd loosened up his wrappings. Enough to allow Camie to break free and attack him while still looking like Ochaco.

Izuku cursed again before deflecting her attacks with his hands. But he lost sight of Camie for a second, and the girl got behind him and had his arms twisted. "While I don't think I can hold you for long, I'm pretty sure I can hold you long enough for some to hit your targets." Camie says with a smile on her copied face. Right as Izuku is about to break out, about 20 more applicants have thrown their balls to knock him out.

Izuku grits his teeth before thrusting his hands back toward Camie. He was hoping to knock the girl back or knock the wind out of her. But she manages to dodge. And all Izuku does is grab onto her boobs. Upon both realizing what had happened, both blush bright. With Izuku accidentally doing something unusual. He had already been channeling kinetic energy into his hands, but when he was trying to pull his hands back he pulled something else. And not Camie's breasts.

"OW!" Camie shouted before letting go of Izuku's hands. The boy then uses his speed to bolt out of the way of the attack. When he had gotten a bit further away, he checked back on the girl who had been attacking him. And that was when he noticed something odd. The area he grabbed, her breasts, appeared to have been chilled or something. As the girl's Ochaco disguise was fading he could see what looked like a bit of frost or something in the shape of his handprint.

While still blushing at where he grabbed, Izuku started to question how or what he did to cause that. "Izuku?" the boy hears to his side, and he quickly takes his stance. But the one sneaking up is Ochaco and Mineta. "Hey man! What happened?" Mineta asked as the three caught their breath behind some rocks.

Izuku gives a sigh of relief before saying, "I'm not sure….. but I think I just woke up something new with my true meta powers. Also, you two are actually you right?" Both look at Izuku with a head tilt before asking what he meant. And when he mentioned that the girl he was fighting before disguised himself as Ochaco. "She had this slime or something over herself that made her look like Uraraka. Though she wasn't wearing anything under that…. And I grabbed her breasts." Izuku said the latter part slightly quieter.

But both of his classmates heard him loud and clear. With Ochaco going nuclear in her blush, while Mineta grabbed Izuku's collar and started shaking his head back and forth. Crying blood while asking, "was Ochaco the one who was naked?! And what did her boobs feel like!?" "Calm down Mineta! We need to wait for our moment to try and eliminate some of the other applicants!" Izuku says while wrapping the purple boy in kinetic tendrils.

Right as he was doing that, with Mineta commenting that he could be extra kinky with this power of his, Mera announces that 53 applicants had passed to the next stage. In a separate part of the stadium, Shoto faced off with five Seijin academy students and quickly dispatched them by taking advantage of the real items in the labyrinth.

When he arrived, he quickly found Jotaro and Saphentite. With the former meditating along the wall. Saphentite waved to Shoto and congratulated the boy for passing the first stage. "It'll only get harder though Anwar-san. This is just the beginning." "Well yeah, but its still something to celebrate. I'd say chill out, but you already do that as is." Saphentite jokes with a pat to his back. Shoto just comments that he also heats things up, while Saphentite just gives a dry chuckle at his obliviousness.

Meanwhile, Momo, Jiro, Shoji, and Tsuyu were inside of a building and faced off against a team of students from Seiai Academy. The leader of the group, Intelli Saiko, had created a plan to use her classmates' quirks to defeat the team. But she underestimated Momo's own intellect and the unpredictability of her quirk. And the four passed by perfectly working together to defeat the ten students.

I glossed over these because they wouldn't change that much from the canon and the anime only story.

With five more passing, Izuku nods to Ochaco and Mineta before noting how the other applicants have been behaving. "They work together well enough when its in massive groups. But once they all break up into smaller teams they start fighting and arguing on who gets the final tag." "So we need to take advantage of that right? Think you could catch a bunch with those tendrils? I could use my orbs to catch a few too." Mineta says while linking together a few as he was talking.

Izuku hums before saying they should work with the others. "I could pass this alone…. Or with you guys but I want all of us to pass this first stage together." Ochaco then questioned why Jotaro and Saphentite quickly passed and left the rest of them. Izuku just mentioned that they didn't want everyone to be dependent on the two of them. "Just like how All Might couldn't be everywhere, those two can't be protecting us or making it easy for use to fight all the time. We have to fight for ourselves and work together to prove we deserve to be heroes." Izuku say while punching his fist into his open palm.

While this has been happening, Sato had joined up with Kirishima and Kaminari. The trio were walking along an overpass after the breakdown of the main battlefield. "Oh man that was nuts! Wonder what other opponents we'll have to face off with." Kaminari says while the three were checking all of their sides to be ready for ambushes.

Which comes in the form of a mass of fleshy material flying at Sato. Kirishima pushes his classmate aside and takes the hit. Forming him into small lump of flesh. "I'm impressed. He was willing to sacrifice himself for someone else. Truly he has what it means to be a hero in his heart. But I wonder if you two have the same." The one saying this is a Shiketsu Academy student, who introduces himself as Shishikura Seiji.

He smirks before creating a mass of projectiles from his flesh and launching them towards the two remaining from UA. While Kaminari is about to go for an Indiscriminate Shock, Sato tells him not to. "Just hang on! This could get rough!" Sato says before eating a molasses cookie. His muscles then become svelte he quickly rushed and grabbed Kaminari to move him out of the way of the projectiles.

For about two minutes, Sato continued this dodging and evasion. Making sure to keep their firepower ace safe until they got a moment to strike. Even the ambush wads that Seiji had moved under the bridge were evaded by the pair.

But Kaminari wasn't just flopping around useless during the whole matter. While looking like he was freaking out, he quietly fired off a few of the disks from his shooter. Even landing a few into the flesh wads. 'I just need to wait for my moment.' Kaminari thought. Until Sato suddenly slowed down. His rush was wearing off.

"You've had a good run. But this is done." "For you man! Eat this! Target Electro!" Kaminari shouts while pointing at a target behind Seiji. Who hadn't noticed that one of his own meat wads had a target stuck to it. The resulting shock causes a few of the others Seiji had captured to be released from the flesh balls. Including Kirishima who gives the older teen a hardened punch to his face to knock the Shiketsu student out.

When that was done, the others Seiji had captured were back to normal. And after a quick thank you, the others told the UA students they had a new fight on their hands. "We figured that. But we're ready!" Sato said before taking out a different sweet. Kaminari just smiles before saying, "You don't know the half of it big guy!" He then points his fingers toward the other applicants before letting off some more electro shots.

This knocks out half of the gathered applicants, and then Sato and Kirishima knock out the others. They then take the balls they were issued and each eliminate the two they need to pass.

Back in the center with Izuku's team, they have their plan set. Ochaco had been floating up rocks with her quirk and Mineta had been attaching the orbs from his quirk onto the rocks. "Be ready once I make my move." Izuku says to the two. Who nod with Ochaco telling Izuku, "be careful out there Izuku." He gives the girl a smile before Full Cowling up.

He sprints past a large group of other applicants, who shout and all try to eliminate him. As they are throwing the target balls, Izuku shouts to Ochaco to drop the rocks. She does and the applicants all start freaking out and try to scatter. But Izuku surprises them a few different way with what he does next.

He leaps and then floats above the others and the falling rocks. He then starts blasting some of the smaller rocks with Delaware Air Force Smashes. Then grabbing the larger rocks and smashing them together above some of the others who were getting away. As the rocks break apart, the orbs Mineta attached fall down and stick to the applicants.

Before any of them can try to remove the few stuck on them, Mineta leaps out and rapidly starts throwing his orbs onto the stuck members. When enough of them can't move, the three move in to secure their targets. And with that they pass the first stage of the Provisional License Exam.

They meet up with their classmates and a few of them start celebrating what they managed to pull off during their own individual battles. "Sato really came through for me. He kept out of the way of all of those flesh blobs and gave me the opportunity to take down our biggest threat." "Yeah and then we could all take out the others who were disoriented after they got turned back to normal." Sato and Kaminari remark while a few dance around at their successes.

Izuku though decides to meditate next to Jotaro. First to center himself after everything that had happened so far. And to talk with his true meta mentor on what happened during his battle with Camie. 'You said it was like you cause a freeze or something?' 'Yeah. That doesn't make sense though. My true meta power is absorbing and manipulating kinetic energy. Right?' Izuku thinks while radio wave communicating with Jotaro.

'Maybe… maybe not. It could be that you are pulling kinetic and a bit of potential energy from your surroundings. Or from things you touch. While conventional wisdom would say that has no bearing on freezing things, in many cases an increase in kinetic energy could cause excess heat.' When Izuku gives Jotaro a mental "Huh?" he explains that kinetic energy is just active energy.

Normally expressed as objects in motion and relating to work or output make an object move a distance. 'But when you look at what you or I can do, it has other nuances. In my case I can constantly absorb a bit of kinetic energy just by moving. Or by taking hits. The same goes for you, but you may have the ability to pull ambient kinetic energy from the molecules around you.' Izuku is wide eyed at this thought and questions what Jotaro means out loud.

"So how does that relate to the frost or chilled area I made on that Shiketsu girl's chest?" Jotaro just gives him a look to say he was an idiot for saying that aloud. And then starts his explanation. "It could be that when you are pulling that kinetic energy it reduces the active energy of the molecules. Causing something like a cooling effect. Who knows? Maybe you could do the inverse as well and heat up an object by putting extra energy into something you're touching. For now though you have a bigger problem."

Given Izuku said what he did to Camie aloud, most of the nearby applicants were looking at him with a mix of disgust or envy. With Ochaco having a clouded over look in her eyes that Izuku got handsy with some random girl. Mineta meanwhile was just muttering about how much of a lucky perv he was. And Kaminari agreed with him when Mineta pointed out the girl in question. Who they noted was looking at Izuku intently with a teasing smile on her face.

Izuku blushed brightly at this and tried to hide his face rather than making some excuse. Saphentite though just chuckled while Shoto wondered why everyone was making a big deal out of Izuku grabbing some girl's breasts. "He's done that before. He did it to you in your fight and this could be seen as the exact same scenario." Saphentite nods and agrees with him, before saying he'd probably understand when he had someone he liked. Meanwhile, Mineta and Kaminari were asking how Izuku kept attracting all of the older girls.

While they are doing that, others from their class are also teaming to pass the exam. With Aoyama and Ida working to keep themselves in the game. 'Why am I even doing this?! I never wanted to be a hero. I'm only here because of the orders I was given. So why am I still trying?' Aoyama thinks to himself while using his laser to propel himself around.

"Everything all right I Can't Stop Twinkling? How's your stomach holding up?" Ida shouts while keeping pace with his classmate. The two stop and catch their breath behind some boulders as Mera calls out that there are only a few spots left for the second half of the exam.

Aoyama grips his fist while thinking to himself. About how he started as just a pawn and tool for the villains. But after spending time with all of his classmates, and the trust and camaraderie they had built up over the month training. He could only think of doing one thing to help those he had come to trust.

"Get ready Ida! I'm going to distract the others!" Aoyama says before laying on his back and firing his laser straight up into the air. As the other examinees set upon the boy, he closes his eyes in acceptance that he'll be eliminated. 'But the rest will pass. They can take advantage the others focusing on me to eliminate them.' Aoyama thinks while smiling.

But this changes when Ida leaps in and protects Aoyama from failing. Then a flock of birds fly in to give the pair more cover and then an even bigger distraction thanks to Toru using her light refraction to blind more enemies. Then Mina jumps in and knocks out a few others using the skills Jotaro and Saphentite had taught her. "You did great Aoyama! Your laser shot made it to where we could group up to finish the fight!" Mina says with a thumbs up to the boy.

Aoyama is shocked that his attempt at self-sacrifice ended up aiding his classmates more than he believed it would. And that they were thanking him for doing that. "We're finishing this together! Now lets go Aoyama!" Ida says while extending a hand to Aoyama. The blonde boy takes it and then the two head to catch some of the other applicants off guard. Being the last two of class 1-A and the last applicants to pass the first half of the exam.

When the last applicants reach the waiting room they congratulate those who are from the same schools about their passing. Though Shoto notes that the Whirlwind user Inasa is glaring at him. So he goes to ask if the two had met before. "I guess someone like you might not remember. I was there at the UA recommended exam. I was the one who beat you that day. And I saw that you are exactly like your father." Inasa says with fury burning in his narrowed eyes.

"That's a bit extreme don't you think?" A new voice rings out. This being Jotaro who stands opposite the pair before trying to break up the argument. Especially when Inasa mentions he really enjoyed the beat down Jotaro gave to Endeavor during the Sport Festival. "You gave that arrogant piece of shit exactly what he deserved." "While I won't deny some of that, your problem with Endeavor feels a bit pettier to be honest. What did he decline give you an autograph or something?"

At Inasa turning away and growling a bit, Jotaro can tell that is where some of the grudge comes from. But before he can get annoyed by the petty reason, Inasa mentions that Endeavor had knocked him over as a boy and then told the child that he was in the way. "Okay that is a bit better of a reason. But even if Shoto seemed the same as his father, he is a different person. What's more… if you plan to be a hero, you have to put any grudges or problems you have with people away. Because we have a job to do. And if you can't put let go of your problems long enough to get it done….. I'll knock your ass out myself and send you off with the civilians."

Jotaro had grown a bit during the year, so now he stood equal to Inasa's height. And even without seeing his eyes, the Shiketsu student could tell that Jotaro was dead serious. "While you aren't hot blood enough to me, I can definitely respect your determination. And while I know you are right; I still can't stand this bastard." Inasa says before walking away.

Shoto looks down before saying that Jotaro didn't have to do that. When the bigger teen says he know but wanted to, Shoto brings up a point he'd been thinking about. "He's right though. Where I started…. I was filled with the same anger and probably had the exact same glare that my father did more often than not. It wasn't just you beating me and my father that broke some of that down though. I needed to try and move on."

"If it could just be solved that easily, it would have been done a long time ago. And I get the feeling you'll have a chance to try and make things right soon." Jotaro says before patting Shoto on the should with a smile. One his friend returns. Meanwhile Izuku himself was working on something. He thought about what Jotaro said with pulling kinetic energy from objects and tries it with a bottle of water.

But to no avail. "Why isn't it working? It worked earlier." "What's up Izuku?" Ochaco asks after noting how hard Izuku had been concentrating. Izuku rubs the back of his neck before discussing what he talked about with Jotaro. "So you can pull kinetic energy from things? How does that work?" "I don't know exactly. All Jotaro said was that I could be pulling the ambient kinetic and potential energy from molecules. Making the objects cool or heat up depending on if I take it away or add to the energy…"

As Izuku says that last piece he starts in on a mumble spree. Contemplating how his powers work and why something like this works. Ochaco sweat drops before snapping Izuku out of it. Both laugh a bit before Ochaco notes that he may not be able to do a full cooling or heat up action so soon.

"You're trying to cool the water in the bottle right? Well maybe you need to touch the water itself to actually cool or freeze it. At least right now. Once you get better at the feeling of pulling energy you might be able to cool even the air itself. Go from cold air to hot air or something?" Ochaco says with a tap of her fingers. Izuku's eyes widen a bit, and he tries the gravity girl's suggestion.

He takes off the cap of bottle and pours a bit of the water onto his hand. He thinks back on the feeling he had when he tried to knock Camie away. It doesn't work at first, but after a few tries he feels the water on and cupped in his hand start to cool. Even to the point some extra droplets had already frozen to his skin.

He smiles at his initial success and then tries to melt the frozen drops. But he barely has time before the proctors announce that the real exam starts now. Suddenly explosions go off in the stadium and even more damage can be seen from the screens and the waiting room windows.

The students run out of the room to hear the screams of people and see smoke rising from the city. "Right now it is all up to you heroes to save people and protect as many lives as possible! Get to it!" Mera says with a yawn.

Izuku, Momo, Ida, Jotaro and Saphentite take the lead and head toward the center of the disaster zone. There they see a kid crying for his grandpa, and while a few were about to comment on that, Saphentite steps up first. "Easy there kiddo. Give me a second to check you over." Saphentite holds her hands out for the boy to grab them, before checking his head and asking if he could walk.

"I can pretty lady. Thanks for checking me. But why didn't any of the rest of you think to do the same." The boy says while looking to a few of the others from UA. Before any of them can stammer out a response, Jotaro takes a bit of a lead. "We've got other problems. I've been checking for a bit with radar and sonar pulses. Jiro! With me. Plug your jacks in and listen for anyone crying in the buildings." Jotaro says with his hands placed on the ground.

Izuku realizes he's right and gives out some orders with Ida. "Uraraka! Go with Momo, Mina, Sato, and Kirishima. Check for any injured and make sure they can move. If they can't, Sato you take who you can to the relief zone some of our upperclassmen have been setting up. If the injuries are bad, Momo you make some medical supplies to bandage up the worst of it."

"Wait on part of that Yaoyorozu. Can you make a few bandages and other supplies for the rest of us? We all need to be able to effect some triage on the victims." Ida says before telling Shoji, Aoyama, Tsuyu, Koda and Tokoyami to head in an opposite direction to Momo's group.

Jiro and Jotaro then comment that they've got the locations for a few others that are likely trapped. With Jotaro quick drawing up a map of the general locations. "We have to get moving and get who we can out. There's a few areas my strength and various powers could be the most useful. Saphee. How's the kid?" "A little banged up but he'll be okay for now. I'll take him to the relief zone." Jotaro nods before running off toward a collapsed building.

Izuku then takes the high road and floats above the rest before flying to one of the two likely helicopters landing spots to secure the area and clear the debris. With Inasa clearing and taking the second. Shoto had followed Izuku and was helping to make pathways for the refugees. All around the stadium, each of the 100 applicants is working to rescue and aid any of the victims of the disaster.

Jotaro having reached the building he could sense people in found someone who was trapped under precarious rubble. He hurries over and starts to lift the debris off of the trapped person. Said person is about to take points off of the large teen's score for not making sure what he was lifting wouldn't destabilize the building.

Until he notices that the building isn't becoming more unstable. Because Jotaro was electro magnetically holding the whole thing together. "Get him out!" Jotaro says to Kaminari and Toru. The two are shocked at what they were seeing but snap out of it to do just that. The victim then asks Jotaro a question. "How were you so sure that there weren't others in the building that could have rubble on them or be jostled into a more dangerous position due to you lifting the whole building?"

"I checked with my super senses beforehand. Made sure that there wasn't anyone else in a dangerous position or place when I lifted that up." Jotaro said before listening for any others nearby that could use help. The man grading is impressed and a bit shocked at what all Jotaro could do. 'Those true metas are kinda scary with what they can all do. And with how easy they could make some aspects of the job of being a hero could be.'

As the test goes on, Izuku starts to feel a nagging sense of dread. 'Its not just because of Danger Sense. There's something else. But what? Things are going smoothly. We've got people setting up rescue sites, helping and escorting civilians… so why do I feel like this is a-' Just as Izuku thinks this a new explosion occurs.

Jotaro waits to check what is going on (given he is occupied with other rescue work for the moment), and when he does he senses a new group of arrivals. With Yokumiru announcing that villains had arrived. With Gang Orca taking the lead and an army of goons behind him to threaten the civilians and keep the heroes busy.

So that is where I'll leave it for now. I had to work around a lot of details since I removed two of the canon characters from 1-A. But I think it turned out pretty well. If you agree or not, please review!
