Chapter 4

Mon decided to wear a clad white v-neck tee, paired with denim jeans, her favorite black and white sneakers and her favorite silver necklace. She woke up early because she wanted to head on over to Mai's family's coffee shop, "Tokiha's" and get her morning drink and pastry before it got to full. Once she arrived she was thankful that the line wasn't too long from the outside. She parked her bike, took off her helmet and ran her fingers through her hair to get it in place. Mon made it in and was hoping that her order was ready since she called ahead and wouldn't have to wait in line. She caught a glimpse of her fire-haired friend and looked like she was swamped, but she was able to catch her attention and with a glimmer on her face she called Mon over to the front and handed over her order.

"Thanks Mai. Was Natsuki here?"

"She was. But she had to head out in a hurry. It seems her new partner in the company was pretty persuasive." Mai shouted as she was preparing another order for a customer.

Mon grinned in amusement and knew what her cousin's relationship with the Fujino heiress was. "Do you know if Nao was going to collect her car from my house?"

"I'm not sure. She said she was, if not I'll give Natsuki a call so she can remind her."

"That's okay, I'll call her before I start work. Thanks again Mai. I'll see you around."

The brunette made it to the company on time, she was traversing a long wide hallway while speaking to someone and going through her notes on her phone. She said her good mornings to whoever was around and made her way towards her station. Yha, Noi and Chen spotted her and were about to interact with her but noticed that she was also on the phone.

"Look Natsu, I just started, this entire arrangement just came out of nowhere thanks to you and aunt Saeko. But I'm doing the job and I feel like I might actually succeed."

"Wow, you're really confident about that." On the other side of Tokyo, a blue-haired woman sat at her new desk with her legs crossed and enjoying her cup of coffee that she got from Tokiha's cafe. "And here I'm hearing from Nao that you won't be able to because of your attractive Boss."

Mon was about to spit out her drink but was able to control her incoming embarrassment and swallowed a huge gulp. "She has nothing to do with this! And you can tell that redheaded tic to pick up her car or I'm getting it towed."

"I apologize, Tsuna, okay. And it's a good thing that you called because mom wanted me to remind you about the dinner party that's happening this weekend."

"Oh no!" Mon had slapped her head and became aggravated about the subject that was brought up. "Do I really have to go to this thing? I mean I'm not even in the company anymore."

"Yes you do! I don't like it either, but if I have to go, you have to go."

"I have a project to work on, Natsuki. I don't have time to smile huge, make small talk and pretend that I care about all the fakeness around the room."

Mon had been on the phone with Natsuki for over half an hour and when she looked at the clock she had to end the call because her boss could be entering at any moment.

"I'll see you this weekend, Natsu."

"I'll see you too." Just as she was about to hang up she forgot one minor detail. "Oh! I forgot, you're gonna be Nao's date."

Mon went pale, "Wait, what!?" she shouted but her cousin had already hung up. "This is not how I wanted to start my morning."

Knock knock…

Noi had entered Mon's station and wanted to give her the heads up about what's to come for the day. "Hey Mon, I just wanted you to know that I sent the documents to Lady Boss. And I already set a time for when you start your presentation."

"The Diversity Project is in your hands, Mon. For all of us, we wish you luck." Yha said with confidence.

"But for her to succeed, she needs Lady Boss's approval."

"That reminds me Chen, I got one of the songs for the trailer done, it's right here if you wanna check it out."

"Oh! Thanks Mon, I'm gonna have my team check it out right now!" Chen had sprinted towards her work room and got her team together to watch Mon's demo on their new VR game.

"She's in a happy mood. And I'm just going to check on the fashion team and see how they're doing."

Ring-ring…

Yha's phone was ringing and so she picked up with some enthusiasm until she heard the tone in one's voice that she had memorized.

"I understand." That was all Yha had said when her perky smile had dropped. "Ah Mon," Mon answered with a hmm. "Lady Boss needs you to present your idea now, or you're not to do it again."

The brunette became pale once more, "She's been here this whole time? I've been on that phone call that long!?" She gathered her things that she needed and rushed over to the boss's door, but not before she took a breath and tried to compose herself and look professional.

Lady Sam had arrived exactly at her usual time. Everyone in the office had scattered to their stations, but the Trio was not able to signal the brunette that had been on the phone for two and a half hours and they didn't know what to do. Lady Sam pulled off her sunglasses and saw that Mon had been walking back and forth while talking to someone on the phone. She looked at the clock and then spoke.

"Yha?"

"Ahh, yes Lady Boss?" she spoke softly.

"Who is Tsuga speaking too?" she demanded while still staring at the brunette.

Yha looked over at her coworker nervously and looked back at Lady Boss, "Ah, I'm not sure." Yha didn't want to tell her that Mon had been on the phone since she got to the company because she didn't want to get her in trouble, which is exactly what might happen.

Lady Boss could tell that Mon had not noticed her presence or even knew what time it was right now. The brunette continued to walk around and the boss just remembered something that jogged her memory, and that was when Mon presented her proposal and she asked her if she could stand. Since she could think better while walking around. So a theory came to her and thought that Mon was discussing plans about the project. She stuck with that idea and walked into her office. And once she did, Mon had just finished the phone call and plopped onto her chair while feeling drained.

Mon sat at the desk with Lady Boss on the other end, she had been going through the website that the content team had been working on. At first she didn't like the first idea and Mon was told to do it again. Two hours went by, she skimmed through it and she automatically said no, do it again. Then after three hours of coming up with made up ideas from the VR and fashion team, Mon was able to put something together that would be a little more to her liking. She got up from her chair and what looked like, she was in decision mode. Mon stayed quiet for a moment and wanted to state her opinion, and did she wanted to.

"It's not that bad. But I still want to be "WOW" You get it."

Mon averted her eyes when she nodded out of consideration. Lady Boss walked on over to her TV screen to check the website. She was not impressed nor satisfied about the page. It just feels unfinished. Mon took another breath and spoke her mind.

"Can you at least be specific on what you want to see, Lady Boss?" Mon asked while trying to not lose her cool. "Your comment is quite broad right now. I can't figure out what you're asking your team. You basically already know what my idea is, which is going to take some time. So why are you giving the Content team such a hard time?" Mon was starting to raise her voice and feel herself losing it. She wasn't able to work with the VR or fashion team because she was too busy helping the Content team with the page.

Lady Boss had remained silent. She stood still, staring at her screen. Mon could already tell that she was thinking about something. Her curiosity was pegging her, in such little time, the brunette was able to read her boss's body language and sense what type of emotion she was building up on.

Mon had to stand up. She was never used to staying in one place for too long so she walked on the side of the desk but kept her distance from her boss. "Are you by chance, still upset about last night?"

"What about last night?" Lady Boss asked in a cold tone in her voice.

"Obviously nothing." Mon answered while raising her hands in surrender and was willing to drop the subject.

"Are you so discouraged about my rejection?"

Mon furrowed her eyes, "I'm not discouraged. Why would you…"

"Nothing in life comes easily. Especially when one has a difficult task that needs to be done."

"I know that, but…"

"Then why do I feel like you haven't been doing your job!? You basically have time to talk on the phone, why should my rejection of the Content team be any different?!"

Because it is. Mon thought.

The brunette was a little taken back by her boss's outburst. She didn't mean to make her upset about the last comment. But she also had to keep calm herself, because if she decides to challenge her boss's anger with her own, then nothing will be settled.

"I'm sorry for my incompetence, Lady Boss. And I also apologize for my unprofessional behavior this morning. Please believe me it was unconsciously done. I won't explain my personal affairs because I know you don't have time to hear such things."

Lady Boss turned to look at the brunette for a second and then turned her back towards her again. It was like she couldn't stand seeing Mon in such a serious position. Of course, she was no different from the brunette.

"Your team has been working really hard on this project. And I myself have worked just as much just to get to this point." Mon was trying to get the raven beauty to understand that what she is asking of her, is not going to get done just like that.

"Then keep trying. Go." She commanded with a wave of her hand without making eye contact.

Mon hated when she would do that. But she didn't want to add more fuel to the fire. She silently took a breath, turned around to collect her things and headed for the door.

"As you wish." She bowed her head and left the office. Leaving Lady Boss to her thoughts.

She had thought back to the time she was at her family estate, discussing her agreement with her parents. She knew what she had to do and also knew what would happen if she failed.

"I'll make sure this company is safe." She was determined even more.

The raging brunette had ignored everyone's lingering eyes and walked straight to her station. Mon placed her things on her desk as she sat down and leaned forward with her head between her legs. The trio and the other occupants of the office came walking up to Mon's station and wanted to know what had happened.

"Mon? Hey Mon?" Yha was trying to get her attention. The annoyed brunette answered with a hum and noticed that everyone was around her. "So, what did she say?"

She sighed heavily, rolled her neck from side to side to release the tension. "She said, "Keep trying." Mon did a quotation sign with her hands. And went into thinking mode. She had worked with well-known businessmen and women with fragile huge egos and every one of them had almost the same motives when it came to business. Mon knew what she had walked into, and knew that her job might be challenging but, she had never in her life met anyone; man or woman, that was more passionate and protective of their company then her boss.

"So you're saying, it was no good?"

"No." she shook her head and groaned.

"So, what are you going to do?" Yha asked.

With a sigh, the brunette leaned back in her chair, rubbing her temples while trying to figure out her next move.

With a sigh, the brunette leaned back in her chair, rubbing her temples while trying to figure out her next move. She felt like her idea was the best option for the situation but, maybe something else might be missing. Something that she hasn't thought of, or could be in front of her but can't see it.

She had been silent for a while until Chen came rolling over and placed a piece of paper in front of her. "What's this?" She asked with a frown.

"It's a resignation letter." Chen laughed out loud. Everyone shoved her away and told her to go back to work.

Mon looked upon the resignation letter and was about to consider the option. Even though she had pitched her presentation and everyone seemed to be on board with the idea, especially the Boss Lady. But then all of a sudden something must've been bothering the raven beauty. Mon didn't notice at first when she came into the boss's office, that her mood was completely different than the night before. She wanted to dig into the situation but by the intense aura she was feeling in the room, she decided against it and did what she was there for.

Mon sighed for like the nth time and looked at the paper once more, but then her agreement with her family had come to mind. She knew what she had to do to gain back her freedom but she couldn't do it if she didn't follow up on her side of the deal. So…

"No. I won't be quitting." She faced her laptop and opened it up. "I will continue my job until she forces me to leave."

Hours passed by and everyone had already gone home. Mon placed some last minute touches on her laptop before shutting it down. She removed herself from her desk and was about to walk towards the stairs until she noticed that her boss's office lights were on.

"She's still here?" Mon said out loud.

Inside the office of Lady Boss, she looked like she was ready to leave but something felt wrong with her. Her head felt like it was pounding, her vision was becoming blurry and she was having trouble standing. What was wrong with her? She tried to call for help but apparently the volume of her voice wasn't loud enough to reach outside, even though everyone had headed home she didn't know what to do.

"Help me!"

Lady Boss shouted once more but louder, she tried to keep herself up but her body felt too weak and she collapsed.

Until Mon finally noticed a call from Lady Boss's office and rushed in.

"Whoa! Boss Lady! Are you alright?"

"My head hurts. Call Kirk and tell him to bring my painkillers."

"Painkillers? You don't need painkillers, you need to rest!"

Lady Boss had groaned while holding her head. The pain wasn't feeling any better.

Mon felt a little sympathetic for her boss. Just a little. So she decided to call her other boss for help.

"Okay I'll do it. But until then go and lie down on the couch."

She suggested and hopefully the raven beauty won't deny the offer. She nodded in agreement because she didn't have the energy to verbally fight back. She tried to stand but felt even weaker than before. So Mon did the unexpected.

"Okay, here we go." She had lifted her boss up in her arms bridal style and walked on over to the couch.

The raven beauty had gasped and was not expecting that kind of action but apparently neither was Mon. She just did it on impulse and never had a second thought about it. She placed her down on the couch and wanted to know what to do next. She snapped her fingers three times to get her attention.

"Where's your phone?" She asked. And Lady Boss waved her hand in the direction of her desk. Once again, Mon groaned, she hates when her boss waves her hand instead of speaking.

She finally retrieved the phone but it was locked with a password. "Oi, Boss. What's your password?" She asked impatiently. Boss Lady tapped in her code and Mon streamed through the contacts and found who she needed to call.

Just a few blocks away, in a building overlooking the city lights below, a very attractive woman had a look of thought or mischievous theory. All in all she became just a little annoyed. She turned from the polished thin glass and walked back to a table with her companion sitting quietly.

"I don't understand what's so complicated. Your business is going under, your employees are a dime a dozen and you have nothing to show for it."

"Okay, I understand that I'm having a little trouble and things haven't been going too well."

Kirk was having a private meeting with the woman that may be a potential partner by company mergers.

"You had four years. I've made offers to you but apparently your main partner wasn't having it. Why the change of mind?" She asked.

Kirk wasn't sure how to explain his situation but she noticed the lack of response and the look of suspense on his face had given him away.

"Unless," she leaned forward on the table with a smirk, "She doesn't know about us. Does she?"

Kirk was about to answer until he saw his phone light up. There were eight missed calls coming from the same number. The woman noticed the name on the screen and grinned to herself.

"Looks like she's been calling for a while."

"Please, excuse me." Kirk took the phone and answered it once he left the office. "What is it Sam?"

"Well it's about damn time!"

Kirk removed the phone from his ear because the volume of the tone had hurt his ear drums. "Sam?"

"No it's Mon. The Boss Lady doesn't look good. Apparently there's something wrong with her head."

That's an understatement.

Sir Kirk became concerned about the situation. "Is it bad?"

"I'm not really sure. Should I take her to the hospital?" Mon asked while trying to stay calm.

"There's a pharmacy that Sam goes to. I'll tell you what to do. Are you okay with that?"

Mon groaned under her breath and rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Okay. What should I do?"

Mon headed off to the pharmacy and retrieved the medicine that she was requested to get. She made her way back and saw that the Boss was still sound asleep.

Well, at least she's still asleep.

Mon rubbed Sam's arm to wake her but not too aggressive that would make her headache worse.

"Okay Boss Lady, I need you to sit up and take your pills."

She said softly and guided the raven beauty in an upright position. Sam took the pills, drank her water and waited for the medicine to take effect. Once she did, she laid herself back down but this time on Mon's lap.

"Whoa! What are you doing?" Mon was caught off guard with her hands in the air.

"Don't move. Let me be for a while."

"Then why didn't you lay back where you were?"

No response was heard, meaning the raven beauty had fallen back asleep. Mon didn't know what to do, she didn't want to force herself off the couch just to have her boss fall off and hurt herself. So she surrendered for the moment and stayed where she was. It wasn't a secret that Mon had found her boss to be borderline gorgeous. Everyone in the company can and will admit to that fact, it's just the part of her communicating with her employees was the problem. Her social skills for some reason are terrible and she didn't know why.

She does look beautiful when she sleeps. Whoa! Snap out of it. No office romance.

Mon thought and repeated those words in her mind while staring down at the raven beauty as she removed a small strand of hair from her face so that Mon could see her better. She massaged Sam's head with light butterfly strokes so that she could remove the pain and sooth her mind as she sleeps.

Until her phone started to buzz. Mon looked at the screen, she was already annoyed and was deciding whether to answer it or not.

I really don't wanna talk to her right now. But I can't be rude.

"What is it?" She whispered. Trying not to be too loud.

"I called to tell you about this weekend and give you the good news." Nao said rather cheerfully over the phone.

"I can't talk to you right now, Nao. I'm busy."

"How could you be busy? It's ten o'clock. Are you still at work?" Nao sounded surprised. "That new boss of yours must be working you to the bone." She said with such coyness in her voice and Mon didn't like that. "And why are you whispering?"

"It's none of your business why I'm still here, and for the record, the good news you speak of for this weekend is good for you, but sucks for me." She was starting to feel agitated when she thought about the discussion she had with Natsuki and the conversation about a business party happening this weekend.

"Oh come off it. I just wanted to let you know that I'll be wearing green. So make sure you wear something similar but not too matchy."

Mon sighed. "Sure. Whatever."

She hung up the phone it back in her pocket. Just when she was going to relax Sam's phone buzzed and saw that Sir Kirk was calling.

"Hello?"

"Mon, everything went okay?" He asked concern.

She nodded her head. "Everything went well. Problem solved." She heard him sigh in relief and was able to breathe easier. They both said goodnight and hung up.

"Why did you answer? I was asleep." A voice had said below her.

"Sorry Sam. That was Sir Kirk."

"I meant the first call. Do you usually get phone calls late at night?" She sounded really authoritative and somewhat irritated. She was about to retort but decided against it.

"He asked if you were alright to drive home?"

"I'm not. Can you?" She asked.

"I can." She frowned. "But I rode my bike here."

"So what are we going to do?" She turned to the brunette as she waited for an answer. As if she wanted to have Mon think of a solution on the spot. Which apparently she did.

Mon drove Sam's car to her home and called ahead to the taxi company to follow her to her destination so that when she drove her boss's car to her house she would have a taxi ready to take her home. Since her bike was safe at the company, she'll take a taxi to work and finally bring her bike home. If that's not thinking from the top of her head, she wouldn't know what would. They finally arrived at Sam's house, she got out of the car very slowly then Mon hopped out to help her.

"Take it easy there Sam. Your pills are still in your system." She called her by her name on impulse again but this time Sam noticed it.

"I'm fine. And stop being so formal. We don't know each other enough for you to call me by my name." She turned to the gates so she could open it.

For some odd reason Mon felt a little hurt. But she didn't want to show it, especially not in front of the raven beauty. "As you wish." That was all she said.

Sam finally opened the door, "You can leave. And let me know you got home. Don't be like last time."

"As you wish."

Sam entered her estate and walked over to her home. Leaving Mon on the sidewalk with her raging thoughts.

Enigma. Enigma. Enigma. She's a frickin bipolar Enigma!

She got into the cab and headed home. She fell back into her thoughts and just processed everything that went on today leading all the way to where she is now.

I'm gonna have to speed this up. So many distractions have already occurred and now I have to focus even more. I will not be tied down to a loveless marriage. I have to succeed. No! I will succeed.

Mon's determination was gold. Whenever she sets her mind on something good, she tries her best to make it better. She had succeeded in the past when she was working for her mother's company, and everything she had done was completely spectacular. Business was going great for her. Money going in and a lot going out, it was basically a win-win for her and her mother's company.

She made it home and saw that Nao's car had been gone. She felt slightly disappointed that it was removed.

Damn. And I was really looking forward to having it towed.

She made it into the house, went upstairs, threw everything on her bed, took a refreshing shower to wash the day away, got dressed for bed and actually texted her Enigmatic Boss.

[I'm home.] She was about to place her down until it went off.

[Why are you texting? My head hurts, my eyes hurt I don't want to read]

Mon felt like she just can't win with the raven beauty. "I swear, this chick is unbelievable." She got up and paced the floor while continued to look at the text that was sent to her. "She really expects me to call her." She sighed again. And dialed the number.

After two rings it was answered.

"I'm home, Sam." Mon sounded really grumpy.

"Why did you call? I have a headache."

The brunette was about to lose it. She clenched her fist so tight that her nails were digging into her skin that it might draw some blood. She sealed her mouth shut so she wouldn't start screaming out her frustrations and her eyes were closed because all in all, she could swear that she was seeing red. She took a breath and chose her next words carefully.

"In that case, I'm hanging up."

"Ahh wait!" She shot up from the couch so fast that her head was spinning. "What's the hurry?" She asked as a distraction.

"Because it's late. I'm tired and you should be resting. Which is why I texted instead of calling."

"Aren't you gonna ask about my condition?"

"You basically have a head cold. Your medicine should've kicked in a while ago. Are you still in pain?"

"You sound like you don't care about what happened to me. I'm suffering from a headache, not memory loss."

"What are you talking about?" Mon was confused.

"I told you to stop being formal with me. We're not close."

Mon was on the edge. She was losing control of her restraints. Her mind was not prepared because it had stopped working a few moments ago. Over the speaker She could hear Sam demanding her to speak.

"I want you to speak!"

"Then tell me what you wanna hear!"

Sam was taken back for the second time. Mon lost it. She couldn't hold back any more. She finally figured out what was holding her back. Apparently no matter what she did or said, it would be an automatic mistake. No matter what she did for the project and for the company it just wasn't good enough to WOW the Boss Lady.

"What exactly do you want from me!? Because right now I'm all out of ideas. I have a project that's going nowhere, an approval that's non-existent and a Boss with a bipolar personality!"

"I see. So the reason you took care of me was to get approved."

She chuckled to herself. "Wow. I can't believe you said that." She giggled silently. "If that's what you think, then I guess I shouldn't give a damn about you." She hung up without waiting for a response. She had enough of the raven and just wanted to go to sleep.

She's so gonna fire me. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
