"Did you guys hear that?" Beast Boy's ears perked up at the sound of a crash in the tower.
"No, but you have the best hearing out of all of us." It was hard to tell if Raven was being serious until she continued, "Yes, I heard it."
She took off running for the first time in a long time. Somebody was in her room, and nobody went in her room. Nobody, that is, except for her fellow teammates.
Maybe they'd made it back safely. Maybe all her suspicions and concerns were silly little worries. Maybe everything was okay. But if they were safe, why were they in her room?
"What are you two doing in here?" she asked as her door opened.
"We just needed to get something, that's all," Robin replied, holding the ruby in his hand.
"No, Robin. That thing isn't safe. You know that."
"But we need it for something. Surely you understand that, friend Raven." There was something sinister in the way Starfire said "friend".
"I don't care that you need it. It needs to stay secure."
By that point, the boys had made it to Raven's side, ready to pick a fight.
"Quit playing games and let us go, Raven," Robin scolded.
"No, Robin. You two need to quit playing games." Cyborg glared down at his friend and slowly prepared himself for a fight.
"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes," Beast Boy agreed.
"Let's all be reasonable here," Robin pleaded. It was obvious that he wasn't giving up that easily.
Raven didn't want to fight at all. She'd rather her friends say they were joking. Even if it wasn't a funny joke – there were no funny jokes to her – she'd let it slide.
But that clearly wasn't how they wanted to play. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, summoning her powers. "Give me the gem or I go full force," she insisted.
"And I thought you were friends. Clearly Earth creatures are not as friendly as I had thought." With that, Starfire released a massive firebolt, knocking all three of her friends to the ground.
"Nice work," Robin told her. "Now let's get out of here before they wake up."
