"Legacy, we're leaving," Sable said.
Legacy looked up from the washing machine that she was currently filling with laundry. Her mother Sable and her stepfather Brock stood in the open door.
"Don't forget to feed the kids," Sable said.
"Have I ever forgotten?" Legacy asked.
"You better cut that attitude out right now or I'll give you something to cry about later," Sable threatened.
"Yes, mom," Legacy said. "I won't forget to feed the kids."
"That's better," Sable said.
Sable turned around, pecked Brock's lips, and walked away. Brock lingered in the open door with a sickening smile on his face. She knew that smile all too well. Nothing good ever came out of him smiling at her that way.
"Come here and give me a hug," he said.
Her heart sank. She didn't dare say no but she wanted to so bad. She wanted to scream at him to leave her the fuck alone but she knew the punishment that would await her if she fought him. She stood up and walked over to him. She never hugged him. She just stood there while he wrapped his arms around her and moved his hands down to grab her ass in a tight grip.
"I'll see you later tonight," he said.
She knew all too well what those words meant. He would wait for her mother to be asleep before coming to her room. In that moment she made up her mind. She was going to call Seth and get out of there tonight. She couldn't deal with another night with Brock in her room, doing things that no stepparent should ever be doing.
"Brock!" Sable called.
"Coming, sugar!" Brock called back.
Brock winked at Legacy and then walked away. She turned back to the washing machine and finished filling it. She heard the front door close and she started the machine. She walked to the living room and looked out of the window. The car was gone. They had left. She turned around and came face to face with her half sister Jetta.
"What's for dinner?" Jetta asked.
"Pizza," Legacy answered.
Legacy walked into Sable and Brock's bedroom. She opened the safe they kept in there and took out some money.
"How do you know the code?" Jetta asked.
"You know it too," Legacy said.
"If they ever find out, I'm gonna tell them that you were the one who told me the code," Jetta smirked.
"I don't care, Jetta. Order pizza for everyone," Legacy said.
Legacy closed the safe again and handed the money to Jetta. While Jetta would be busy taking everyone's order and ordering pizza, Legacy would be busy making a phone call. She walked down to her small room in the basement and found the cell phone under her mattress. She found Seth's number and called him. He picked up after two rings.
"Hi, chipmunk," he said.
"I'm not a chipmunk," she said.
"You're kinda shy like one," he chuckled. "I take it you either have questions or you're ready to leave."
"Get me out of here, please," she said.
"Of course, chipmunk," he said. "So when do you..."
"Now! Tonight!" She hissed.
"Good thing I'm still in town. I had a feeling you might need help today already," he said. "Where do we meet?"
"Wendy's is close," she said.
"I'll be there in five minutes," he said.
"Wait for me," she said.
"I'm not leaving with you," he said.
She hung up and put the phone in her back pocket. She walked back upstairs where Jetta had just ordered pizza for everyone.
"I didn't order anything for you since you weren't here," Jetta smirked. "You might get lucky that someone doesn't finish all of theirs."
"It doesn't matter, Jetta. I'll eat elsewhere. I need you to do me a favor," Legacy said.
Jetta crossed her arms and continued smirking.
"No," Jetta said.
"You'll get to tell mom how I left you to babysit tonight so I'll be punished extra hard. I know you love being mom's little nazi and I won't fight you on anything you tell them," Legacy said.
"Uh, you met a man, didn't you? Dad's gonna be so pissed to learn you're dating someone," Jetta said.
"So we have a deal?" Legacy asked.
"This is going to be so much fun. I'm gonna be creative tonight. I got all night to come up with some wild stories to tell. You just said you won't fight me on anything," Jetta said.
"I won't," Legacy said.
Legacy went to the hall, put on her sneakers, and left the house. She couldn't tell Jetta that she wouldn't return. Jetta was 16 and would follow her while calling Brock to tell them what was going on if she said anything. She had to make a fake promise about being punished later in order to get out. As soon as she was out of view from the house, she started running. She made it to Wendy's where Seth stood next to a car that was still running.
"You didn't bring anything?" He asked.
"Shit!" She said. "Should I go back and pack?"
"Do you think that would be wise?" He asked.
"Probably not," she answered.
"Get in. We'll buy something tomorrow," he said.
"I don't have any money," she said.
"I know," he grinned. "But your father does."
They got into the car and he pulled out of the parking lot.
"It's a two hours drive. It nearly broke Edge to know you were this close without his knowledge," he said.
"I don't understand why I was so hard to find," she said.
"He'll explain everything to you, chipmunk," he said. "Wanna listen to music?"
"Sure," she said.
He turned on the radio and metal music started playing. She didn't know the band but she liked it. She turned her head and stared out of the side window while he drove. She was silently saying farewell to this place. She had no idea if she would ever return. She had no idea where she was going or who she might meet there. She had put all her trust in a stranger named Seth Rollins, and in that moment she no longer cared if he turned out to be a serial killer, or if he had actually told the truth. He had given her a way out of that house and that was all that mattered to her.
