Walking Dead: Building Your Own Hope

Chapter 15 of my Walking Dead story, enjoy. Just a warning BTW, there is a brief moment of homophobia in this chapter, so be careful please.

Reviews:

Boris Yeltsin: Yeah, it's pretty hard, and yeah, that is creepy.
Parent12D: Thanks, glad you enjoyed it dude, yeah, it's been pretty wild. Yeah, wouldn't call it a full blown one though as it was more one night stand, but true enough and well, it's more...Rick knows Lori so well, so he knows that her dismay at making such a mistake is genuine and the whole thing was a heat of the moment incident too. Yeah, well, it helped calm him down at least and true, that does look questionable, what could they be up to?
Wolfgirl2013: Thanks :)

Now onto the story.

Season 2: Episode 15

Rick sighed and shook his head as he parked outside the police station, this was not going to be easy, but he knew it had to be done. His biggest problem right now was not however, the fact that he had to talk to the chief about Shane. It was due to issues that were still lingering at home.

'Carl did calm down and come home, and he is being perfectly civil, but...There's just a complete breakdown of trust between Carl and Lori now.' He thought sadly. 'It's to be expected sadly but still...I just wish, wish there was some way to fix things, at least enough that things wouldn't be so tense around the house.'

He shook his head, the part that truly hurt him was that Carl seemed to believe that Rick himself wasn't reacting 'properly' to this. He didn't understand that Rick was indeed hurt by the reveal that Lori had slept with Shane. But he still trusted her and he had already seen how broken she was by this, the fear and the self-loathing. Not only that, but he could see clearly that Lori had been punishing herself about this ever since it happened. He just wished Carl could see that. Regardless there was nothing he could do about it just now, he had to deal with things here at the station.

Emerging from the chief's office, Rick sighed as he spotted Shane, who was glaring at him. Shaking his head, Rick walked towards his office, but was intercepted by Shane.

"What was that about, Rick?" He demanded.

Rick had enough and glared. "Let's just say I know the truth now Shane and I've had to take action."

Shane tensed for a moment, before narrowing his eyes. "Take action, what is that supposed to mean, you-?"

"You've been harassing Lori, Shane. I know why now and it's about time you took a hint. This isn't a good image for a deputy." Rick explained sharply.

Shane tensed at that. "You...you have no right to, how dare you assume-!?"

Rick cut him off. "I'm not assuming anything, Shane, Lori made it clear after all and I happen to trust my wife Shane. More than I can trust you it seems, why can't you take no for an answer?"

"You don't get it, she…" Shane began before shaking his head and snarling.

Unexpectedly Shane actually advanced as if about to attack Rick but soon found himself blocked by three others, two other deputies, Lambert Kendall and Leon Bassett, and the chief.

"That's enough Shane, this is not going to help your case." The chief warned him.

Shane froze. "Sir, this isn't-"

The chief shook his head. "Lori Grimes called me up too and corroborated Rick's story and Leon happened to have seen you going to the Grimes house while Rick's been working."

Shane glared at Leon but it was clear he was caught, backed into a corner.

Brian smiled lightly as Beth let him in.

"I'm glad you could make it, my dad was quite happy to hear you were coming to dinner." She explained.

Brian nodded. "I'm glad I could make it. I'm looking forward to seeing them again."

He had been invited to the Greene family for dinner and it wasn't just Beth's father that he was going to see, Maggie, Glenn and Enid were here too.

"Hey." He greeted them as he and Beth entered the living room where Glenn and Enid were sitting.

"Hi, good to see you again?" Enid quipped, referring to them having seen each other at school not that long ago.

Brian grinned. "Same, so...Hershel and Maggie making dinner tonight?"

"That's right." Glenn confirmed. "So, it's gonna be pretty good."

They all grinned as they sat down and relaxed, waiting for the meal to be ready, Brian gladly responded to the welcoming calls from Hershel and Maggie from the kitchen. After a pause he noticed something was still hanging heavy over the family and began to feel worried.

"Is um...everything alright?" He asked warily.

Glenn and Enid shared a look before he sighed.

He explained. "We're still, worried...We've not heard anything from the police and it seems like there's not a hint about who could've broken into our home, the thing is, they seemed to have searched the whole place but didn't take anything?"

"It's just scary, who knows what's going on, why they…?" Enid added, before shuddering.

Brian bit his lip, startled by this, yet a thought came to him. "Um...not sure it helps, but...maybe they were looking for something specific and they didn't find it?"

They all shared a look, that was something they hadn't considered, but he was right, it didn't really help, if anything, it made them even more nervous.

Lori was tense, fearful yet not surprised when she answered the knock at the door and it turned out to be Shane.

"Don't start Shane, I'm not interested in anything you have to say." She told him firmly.

Shane however blocked her from closing the door. "You owe me some consideration, Lori, thanks to you calling the chief, Rick got me 'suspended pending further investigation'. Do you realize what that means?"

"Quite well, you're now facing consequences for your actions." Lori fired back. "You were harassing me Shane."

Shane was irate. "Lori, you know we-"

"There is no 'we' Shane, the only we in my life is me and Rick." Lori explained. "I told him everything, Shane, everything about us and yes, he is upset with me. Carl is upset with me. But they both accept that I'm admitting my mistakes."

"Mistake." Shane hissed.

"It was a mistake, Shane, you know that." Lori said, shaking her head.

He glared, outraged, unable to believe what he was hearing.

Lori continued. " You see Shane, I made a mistake and I've learned from it, I remember what you said. You said I had to make a choice, and I have. I've chosen my Husband and Son, no matter how they may feel about me."

"The only mistake around here is Carl." Shane snarled as he turned to leave.

"What?" Lori gasped. "What was that?!"

Shane scoffed. "Don't pretend you're okay with him being that way, girly long hair and getting with that other boy. You know that isn't-"

"Don't you dare, don't you dare finish that sentence. How dare you say such things about my son!" She snapped at him. "Get the hell away and don't ever come back, if you do I will call Rick and your boss and make sure they know that you're still doing this."

With that she slammed the door and Shane was left fuming, unable to believe that this was Lori's reaction. He tried to offer her a better option, and try to get her to fix the problem with Carl. He was disgusted at the discovery that Carl was gay, yet to disgust him even more, Rick didn't have a problem with it and now he had Lori pretending she was fine with it too, he should've known something wasn't right with Carl after he started wearing his hair long and how that made Carl look like a girl from behind. It was clear he'd need to think about this some more, figure out something to correct things before it was too late.

End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
