Chapter 27
After getting inside Fuchsia City, we look around the place and find that this place is pretty big and a lot of Pokemon roaming around. "Wow, this place is big." Insey says.
"Yeah, there are many things we can do in Fuchsia City. But first, we're going to find the Gym." I say.
We try to find Fuchsia City Gym, only to find a sign that says the Fuchsia Gym is in the forest, after a lot of complaining and searching, we finally see a big mansion in the middle of nowhere.
"I didn't know there are old houses like this still existed..." Brock says.
"Maybe this is the gym." Serena says.
When we open the door, we find the gym guide standing there. He says, "Yo! Champ in the making! At the Fuchsia City Gym, we welcome trainers who've met lots of Pokemon. May I ask how many Pokemon you have captured?"
"Well..." I don't remember how many Pokemon I've captured, so I decided to show the Pokedex to the guide. But suddenly, his voice turns female. "Well done! Looks like you've caught quite an amount of species! That means you are now worthy of challenging my Gym!"
"Your gym? And why are you sounding female?" Yellow asks. And much to our surprise, the Gym guide disappears, and in front of us is the female ninja. "Fwahahahaha! Startled by my disguise, are you? I shall use my intricate style to confound and destroy you in battle as well!"
"It's a female ninja?" Misty asks. Then she also creates a white smoke before disappearing. The real gym guide comes and says, "I am amazed every time I see that...she just looked like me, right? Now head on in! Experience her moves for yourself."
Okay... that's weird... but when we are about to walk forward, Misty bump into something and falls to the floor. "What's the big idea?" Misty says.
I touch the invisible wall and say, "It is just like Mr. Mime's Barrier... I guess this sure is something..."
Insey says, "And this looks like some sort of Trick House as well. How are we going to find that Ninja Gym Leader lady?" Insey asks.
Just then, a Venonat appears, and it starts to run through the barriers. "Maybe it wants us to follow it?" Misty asks.
We decide to follow the Venonat, and we find the first gym trainer, which is actually a tamer. "What do you think about the famed invisible walls of the Fuchsia Gym?" The person is named Phil, and he uses Nidorina and Nidorino.
"So this is a Poison Type Gym..." I send out Butterfree and Sandslash to battle, with the Psybeam and Earthquake, they manage to defeat the two Pokemon without hurting Butterfree.
As we continue further, we find another trainer, an Ace Trainer named Kayden. "Strength isn't the only key for Pokemon. Do you understand this?"
"I know, it also involves strategy." I reply.
"Good, I'll show you how strategy can beat brute strength." Then he uses Muk and Beedrill, but this time I use Pidgeotto and Golem to defeat it, by using the Wing Attack on Beedrill and then the Magnitude 9 on the Muk.
While we continue to move, I feel myself being zapped and falling to the ground, "Pikachu... why did you do that to me..." I mutter.
"I didn't do that." Pikachu tries to shake his head. Brock says, "Ash! Look there!"
The one shocking me is a Voltorb. "This place gets weirder and weirder..." I say.
We decide to escape the Voltorb and continue, then we meet the third trainer: Juggler Kirk. He says, "You know, I was a magician at one time, but I dreamed of becoming a ninja, so I joined this gym." Then he sends out Haunter, and I go with Gengar. With the speed and the Shadow Ball, it manages to defeat it easily. I use the same strategy but against another Juggler named Harry and his three Haunter.
"You know, it is a good thing that you have Gengar, or it will be trouble." Serena says.
"You're right about that." I say.
When we climb upstairs, we find the Venonat, but there is another barrier in front of us. Misty says, "Brock, this place is giving me the creeps."
"It seems that we're falling into traps..." Insey says. "I wonder why the Gym Leader is doing that..."
I try to lean on the wall, but the wall falls and revealing the creek down below. Insey says, "Yikes! What's up with this gym actually?"
"We need to be careful." I say. Then we continue to move forward, and we find the next trainer: An Ace Trainer named Annie, she says, "Master Koga and his daughter Janine descended from a family of ninjas. A tradition that's lasted for hundreds of years! What did you descend from?"
"Of course, I am descended from the Ketchum family." Ash says with confidence.
"So the female ninja must be Janine... but who's Koga?" Yellow asks.
"He's one of Johto Elite Four." Insey says.
Then she uses Ivysaur and a Weezing, and I use Charla to defeat both of them with the help of Flamethrower and Dragon Rage.
And the final trainer is a Tamer named Edgar. He says, "I also study the way of the ninja with Master Koga and Mistress Janine. Ninjas have a long history of using creatures!" Then he uses three Arbok, and I have Onix keep using the Rock Slide and the Earth Power to defeat them.
"So that is all the Pokemon..." I say, but then shurikens come and we are forced to dodge them.
"This is a training camp, I hope you didn't let your guard down." The one who throws the shurikens is Janine.
"None of you are able to leave this mansion unless you do the battle with me." Janine says. "So?"
"I accept the challenge, I'm here for the Soul Badge!" I say.
"The very idea makes me shiver with mirth! Very well, I shall show you the true terror of a ninja! Poison brings steady doom. Sleep renders foes helpless. Despair to the creeping horror of Poison-type Pokémon!"
The first Pokemon she's using is Golbat. I say, "A Golbat, so it is a Flying Type." I decide to go with Onix as my first Pokemon.
"A Crystal Onix, but that is not going to scare me. Use Toxic. Show him the vile poisons that won't be getting off easily." Janine says as Golbat manages to poison the Onix.
"Poisoning the Pokemon already?" Brock gasps.
"This sure is a hard gym..." Misty says.
"Onix! Use Bind!" I have Onix use Bind, but Golbat manages to break free and use Sludge Bomb, Onix barely dodges the attack. I say, "Onix, let's go with Smack Down!"
The move causes Golbat to fall to the ground, much to Janine's surprise. Serena says, "Good, the Flying Type is not going to work after the Smack Down."
Then Golbat is defeated by the Bulldoze, Janine says, "I was surprised at the sudden Smack Down, but this time it won't be easier." She sends out Muk as her second Pokemon, and with the Minimize, it keeps avoiding the attack.
"Now finish that Onix with the Mud Bomb." Then Onix is blasted by the mud and then it faints. I say, "You have already done a good job."
Then I decided to also use Golbat. "I see you are going to fight poison with poison." Janine says. Golbat uses Air Cutter, but Muk dodges the attack and uses Thunderbolt, which catches us off guard.
"A Thunderbolt attack? How is that even possible?" I decide to continue to tell Golbat to attack the Pokemon with Leech Life, regaining some of the health, and then defeat it with the Zen Headbutt.
But just before we can continue, the ceiling falls and Team Rocket appears on the scene, performing a theatrical kabuki rendition of their motto, sending out Arbok and Weezing in the process.
"It seems we'll have to join forces to vanquish them." Janine says.
"Right!" I return Golbat and send out Chala, while Janine goes for Venomoth, but James throws a fistful of a sticky thread at them, immobilizing them. "Pikachu! Meowsie!"
My Pikachu and Persian also try to stop them, but Jessie is the one throwing the sticky thread this time.
Misty says, "We need you now, Starmie!" Before she can throw the Pokeball, Psyduck comes out and Misty yells, "Psyduck! You're not Starmie!"
Then she grits her teeth and says, "Urgh... fine then, go if you want to." Then Psyduck hugs Misty's leg, causing her to get angry. "Psyduck! You're driving me crazy!"
After Psyduck rushes to the battlefield, Misty asks, "What attacks can Psyduck do?"
"There is Tail Whip..." Yellow says.
"Psyduck, Tail Whip!" Psyduck wags its tail, only to reduce both Arbok and Weezing's defense by 1 stage. Misty yells, "How can you tell that wagging a tail is an attack?"
"You need an attack move, Psyduck can use Scratch!" I say.
Psyduck tries to scratch Arbok, only to be bitten on the head as it keeps running around. Misty is holding her head and yells, "What a totally pathetic Pokemon... Now it's giving me a headache!"
"I think we have a way out of this." Janine then pulls a cord, opening up several ceiling panels and unleashing a large amount of Voltorb on the trio.
"What are those? They are in the way." Jessie says.
James yells, "That's a Voltorb!" They go for Self Destruct and we are now in another room. All of us feel tilted, and we notice that the room is slanted.
"This is a slanted room, we use it to confuse the opponents." Janine says.
We try to free Charla, Pikachu, and Persian, but they are too sticky, and at the same time, Team Rocket manages to find us, with the Voltorb stuffed in a loot bag. Meowth throws one of the Voltorb and it uses Self Destruct on us, not on purpose, and it only causes Psyduck to continue running with headaches.
"Psyduck! You're just going to get hurt out there! Get back!" Misty tries to recall the Pokemon, but Psyduck keeps running and causes Misty to miss and get angry. Meowth is also angry and yells, "Get out of the way!"
He kicks the Psyduck in front of James. James says, "We can catch this Pokemon too."
"We don't need Pokemon like that!" Meowth says as Psyduck continues to run in circles.
"Oh man... even Team Rocket doesn't want it." Misty mutters.
"It's headaches just get worse." Brock says.
After Misty stops Psyduck, it starts to use an attack on the Voltorbs, causing them to be unable to Self-Destruct. "That's Disable!"
Then Psyduck also uses Confusion to make Team Rocket unable to move, then they are sent flying after the psychic attack causing them to fly anywhere.
"Psyduck's attacks are pretty good!" Misty says as we see them blasting off again. Psyduck also uses Confusion to get all the Pokemon out of the sticky theads.
"Do you have that power all along?" Misty asks.
"I know that when Psyduck is having headaches, its Psychic powers become stronger." Insey says.
"That was a magnificent Psyduck. Do you think you'll consider trading Psyduck for a Venonat?" Janine asks Misty, who says, "Well, I wouldn't trade Psyduck for any Pokemon in the world."
"A Pokemon like that would definitely have one of our Soul Badges." Janine says.
"That reminds me, we haven't finished our match just yet." I say, and we decide to do this outside.
The third Pokemon is Venomoth, and I decide to go with Pidgeotto. Venomoth uses Stun Spore on Pidgeotto, Pidgeotto tries to use Gust to blow them away, but it is not good since Pidgeotto is paralyzed. Venomoth uses Poison Fang, and Pidgeotto uses Agility and barely dodged. Pidgeotto uses Acrobatics and hurts Venomoth, it flies backward, then it uses Psychic to knock Pidgeotto onto the floor, causing Pidgeotto to barely stand up. Then it uses Silver Wind, which is blocked by Protect, then Pidgeotto uses Hurricane to defeat Venomoth.
"Down to my last Pokemon I see, but it won't be easy to get defeated." Janine says as she sends out her final Pokemon, a Weezing. The Toxic attack also defeats Pidgeotto, so my final Pokemon is Charla. Weezing starts off with a Sludge, which is dodged, Charla uses Flamethrower and hits Weezing, then it is hurt by Double Hit.
Serena says, "This Weezing sure is strong... But I know Ash can win this."
And much to their surprise, Charla uses the Fire Spin and it covered the Weezing in Fire, causing it to get burned and eventually defeated by the Dragon Rage.
"You've beaten me, and Psyduck saved my Voltorbs from being stolen by the thieves. Here! Take the Soul Badge!" I take the badge and smile. Janine adds, "Now that you have the Soul Badge, the Defense of your Pokémon rises. It also lets you Surf outside of battle."
Then Janine says, "I have a lot to learn about battling, and it's thanks to you." We nod as we bid farewell to the gym leader and head back to Fuchsia City.
Here is a new chapter, and in this chapter, Ash gets his fifth badge and the next chapter will be the Safari Zone.
