Interlude: Kasmari Assembly Forges, Canis Sapiens
These guys are basically the Lombaxes from Ratchet and Clank, ON STEROIDS. Also, they're modeled after dogs instead of cats.
NOTE: This is an Encyclopedia Chapter, which means it is dedicated to describing the mixed lore of the Starhammer 50k Multiverse.
LORE STARTS HERE
There exists many competing shipbuilders and engineering companies that supply the Galactic Republic and its tens of millions of solar systems with military hardware and other supplies needed for national defense, needed to hold the line against the multifarious enemies of democracy.
Many big names come to mind, like Kuat Drive Yards, Corellian Engineering Corporation, Fondor Shipyards, Misriah Armory, Eberron Smithy, BlasTech Industries, Alpha Centauri Technologies, the Rock of Bral, the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Brotherhood of Steel, among other industrial titans.
But none of these are as venerated as the first major shipbuilding corporation established in the Republic's history, Kasmari Assembly Forges.
This company is different from the rest solely because of the people that run it- instead of the mixed race and species demographics that make up the labor force of democracy's other arms manufacturers, Kasmari Assembly Forges is staffed exclusively by the Maru, canine humanoids that are best described as anthropomorphic dogs, foxes and wolves.
Footnote: Ancient primitive humans called the Maru "Canis Sapiens" or "wise dogs." They had visited Terra/Earth/Coruscant during the era of the Roman Empire and given rise to myths of werewolves. Though the Maru were far from the bloody savages they were depicted as by the ancients.
Footnote #2: The Maru themselves hail from Durga, an Earth-sized habitable moon covered by all kinds of forest, from tropical jungles and wetlands, to deciduous woods and boreal taiga, orbiting the ringed gas giant Kasmari, which looks much like Jupiter, but even bigger, and is wracked by storms and hurricanes powerful enough to swallow Terra, Venus and Mars multiple times over.
The gas giant planet is the source of the shipbuilding company's name, and the Maru have left the moon of Durga's ecosystem largely intact, moving all their industry and cities to other worlds away from the endless trees that feed their immense population.
They are unique because they have an innate talent for engineering and science, and are born with the knowledge to build wonders of technology. They even use the Force to infuse various systems of magic into their greatest masterworks, and were responsible for inventing the Stargates recently used by the Republic's military forces... though they certainly weren't the first to pioneer such techno-magical miracles, as there existed proof of Stargates on the planet Eberron long before the Maru civilization even evolved.
Stargates aside, it goes to show, that the dogs are much better at their job than everyone else, which is why they were hired by the Republic's politicians and generals during the Milky Way Galaxy's colonial era.
The semi-mythical God-Emperor who first established the Galactic Republic, and charged his 20 superhuman sons, the Primarchs, with conquering new territory and establishing "manifest destiny," put his sole trust in the Maru to manufacture "the most powerful navy the known universe has ever seen."
Whether that statement was true or not is still up for debate, but the Republic Grand Navy was a powerhouse even during its days of imperialism. The Maru's instinctual knowledge and intuition regarding military technologies meant that the Great Crusade wouldn't have gotten shit done without their help.
The reason why Canis Sapiens joined in on the Great Crusade? They wanted to capitalize on the effects of imperialism, and profit was their main goal.
The Maru had dominion over 10,000 gas giants, ice giants and asteroid belts, as well as hundreds of old supergiant stars that held solar systems thousands of times more extensive than the one Terra belongs to. As if that wasn't enough, in the 51st Millennium of today, they control the shipyards around Kronos Alpha and Zeus Omega, the two largest gas giants in the Milky Way, each almost 30 times the size of Jupiter and with rings 200 times bigger than those around Saturn.
The dog people made use of the seemingly infinite amount of rock, wood, ice and metal they had lying around to construct the hulls of billions of ships used in the Great Crusade, and the fleet was diverse as it was powerful.
What's more, the Maru even had a sorcery technique that could transform biological matter into industrial materials and complex technological components, such as computer chips and batteries.
Here's a list of the Republic Grand Navy's ship types:
HYPERSPACE CAPABLE: These are part of the main fleet, designed for combat with other vessels, and range in size from just under 1 kilometer in length (the absolute smallest patrol boats) to more than 3,500 kilometers in diameter (the very largest armored space stations and supercarriers.) They all use hyperspace to get where they're going, NOT magic (with the exception of Force-powered frigates.)
Aircraft/Spacecraft carrier
Supercarrier (the biggest ships of all)
• Anti-hyperspace warfare carrier (used to sink Subwarps, which are simply put, "space submarines")

• Patrol boat
• Torpedo boat
• Patrol Torpedo (PT) boat
• Q-ship (merchant ship with concealed weaponry)
• Space station tender
• Subwarp (vessels that "submerge" in hyperspace)
• Subwarp carrier
SPELLJAMMING SHIPS: These are usually under a kilometer in length, with a few exceptions, and more resemble nautical vessels from the age of sail, being used more for exploration, investigation, adventuring, research and reconnaissance, instead of full-on naval combat. As such, they can land on both solid ground and water, unlike the vast majority of official naval craft.
They are powered by the Force, which is to say all kinds of magic systems, and a magic user in a Spelljamming helm (sorcerer's throne) is always the commanding officer aboard such ships.
• Barque
• Barquentine
• Bireme
• Bomb vessel (used to sabotage enemy shipyards)

• Flyboat
• Full-rigged ship
• Galley
• Galleon (the largest Spelljamming vessels, akin to bite sized carriers)
• Hulk (like a battleship, but SO MUCH SMALLER)
• Junk
• Liburnian
• Longship
• Man-of-war
• Quadrireme (spy satellite)
• Quinquereme (camera ship)
• Rocket vessel (armed with ballistic missiles)
• Schooner
• Ship of the line
• Sloop-of-war
• Trireme
Of course, what space navy would be complete without weapons of mass destruction? The Maru manufacture only the best armaments for the Republic's crusades, and it is said the Great Knight Houses and their Battlemech units have received experimental devices from Kasmari's vaults, which they have no shame in using against the most hated foes of freedom.
All of these weapons' destructive yields follow Star Wars standards, and make real nukes look absolutely puny and insignificant.
NAVAL WEAPONS OF THE REPUBLIC:
Turbolasers: These are the most obvious, and by far the most powerful weapons on a space warship, firing highly concussive and unstable particle beams, much like Iron Man's Repulsor Rays. They're not actually lasers, scientifically speaking.
They come in five tiers, and the weakest examples can expel the same amount of destructive energy as multiple Tsar Bombs in a fraction of a second.
Tier 1 turbolaser: Gigatons minimum, hundreds of gigatons maximum (equivalent to the entire combined nuclear arsenal of Real Earth)
Tier 2 turbolaser: Teratons minimum, hundreds of teratons maximum (equivalent to the meteor that killed the dinosaurs)
Tier 3 turbolaser: Petatons minimum, hundreds of petatons maximum (equivalent to a blast that can melt all of Earth's crust and vaporize its oceans)
Tier 4 turbolaser: Exatons minimum, hundreds of exatons maximum (equivalent to a blast which can shatter Earth's moon twice over, and destroy a good portion of the asteroid belt)
Tier 5 turbolaser: Zetatons minimum, hundreds of zetatons maximum (equivalent to a blast capable of completely destroying an Earth sized planet, with more power to spare)
Macrocannons: These are mass drivers that use electromagnetic force to accelerate enormous explosive shells weighing thousands of tons minimum, up to velocities measuring a fraction of the speed of light, leaving the barrel encased in a cocoon of plasma. The combined power of the explosives, velocity and plasma casing is what gives them their destructive effects.
They are very labor intensive, take up lots of space, and are nowhere near as ludicrous as turbolasers, but are MUCH CHEAPER, can more easily pierce energy shields, and can be installed on more ships.
Tier 1 macrocannon: Tens of megatons minimum, hundreds of megatons maximum, velocity up to 0.2 percent of the speed of light
Tier 2 macrocannon: Tens of gigatons minimum, hundreds of gigatons maximum, velocity up to 15 percent of the speed of light
Tier 3 macrocannon: Teratons minimum, tens of teratons maximum, velocity up to 40 percent of the speed of light
Plasma Lances: A sister weapon to turbolasers which harnesses the power of literal miniature suns to create a beam akin to a solar flare. Higher tiers fire white or blue star energy, while lower end weapons shoot out red, orange or yellow. Unlike turbolasers or macrocannons, they do not have variable yields or settings to change the intensity of the blast, making them less flexible and even more suited to missions with guaranteed collateral damage.
Tier 1 plasma lance: Red beam, 200 gigatons per shot
Tier 2 plasma lance: Orange beam, 5 teratons per shot
Tier 3 plasma lance: Yellow beam, 100 teratons per shot
Tier 4 plasma lance: White beam, 10 petatons per shot
Tier 5 plasma lance: Blue beam, 1 exaton per shot
Torpedo Launchers: Also called Interplanetary Ballistic Missiles (IPBMS,) these are enormous rocket-fueled, computer-guided, magically-activated projectiles packing hundreds to thousands of tons of extremely volatile explosives. They can be several hundred meters in length, and have range that can reach billions of miles, pretty much a weapon launched from Earth that can strike targets past Pluto.
Torpedoes aren't as powerful as turbolasers or plasma lances, but again, are much more affordable in larger quantities.
Tier 1 IPBM: 150 megaton warhead
Tier 2 IPBM: 10 gigaton warhead
Tier 3 IPBM: 200 gigaton warhead
Tier 4 IPBM: 1 teraton warhead
Stormlight Guns: Yes, the Maker had to stick a Sanderverse (or Cosmere) reference in here. This class of naval space weapon is exactly what the name says it is: A laser beam of sheer light and heat guided by staggering amounts of electricity that burns and zaps whatever it hits. Somewhere between torpedoes and turbolasers in effectiveness and damage potential.
Tier 1 stormlight gun: 120 gigatons per shot
Tier 2 stormlight gun: 12 teratons per shot
Tier 3 stormlight gun: 12 petatons per shot
Cosmere pattern stormlight gun:500 megatons per shot, per centisecond (one hundredth of a second)
Magma Bombs: When you want to destroy an entire enemy fleet with sheer explosive force but don't want the focused and precise attacks of the turbolaser or plasma lance. Blast radius is of paramount importance in getting rid of exceptionally numerous and tenacious adversaries, like the Orks, Daleks, Tyranids, Confederate Droids, Plasmoids, Xenomorphs, Grimm, Mind Flayers, and worse.
Magma Bombs are simply put, skyscraper-sized containers crammed full of the most ruinous, volatile and dangerous explosive materials in the universe, which detonate when their built-in sensor systems detect an enemy vessel. Think of them as space minefields that can fling moons out of orbit and send asteroids scattering in every direction.
But despite their fearsome reputation and area of effect, they are weaker than every other major armament aboard Republic warships, and life on planets can actually endure after the explosion of a magma bomb, whereas most orbital bombardments render worlds inhospitable to all living things.
Tier 1 magma bomb: 50 megatons in a 20 million mile radius
Tier 2 magma bomb: 500 megatons in a 150 million mile radius
Tier 3 magma bomb: 5 gigatons in a 750 million mile radius
Tier 4 magma bomb: 50 gigatons in a 1.5 billion mile radius
NOVA CANNON:
When you want to destroy ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING and want NOTHING LEFT. A weapon to snuff out the stars themselves, mounted only on the biggest and baddest of Republic Navy warships.
Minimum yield of 25,000 yottatons (one yottaton is equivalent to the Sun's energy output in 4 months,) and the maximum yield makes a star go SUPERNOVA (hence the name.)
Secondary, tertiary quaternary, and quinary weapons: Any sci-fi or fantasy ranged weapon you can imagine has been attached to the hulls of these fearless space-borne behemoths.

Gotta hand it to the FREAKING FURRIES for bringing the Milky Way and its neighboring galaxies to their collective knees. Do NOT underestimate the Maru, they are basically my interpretation of the Lombaxes from Ratchet & Clank.
