Rhonda looked like she wanted to do cartwheels. The rest of the Pack and Faith looked like they weren't too far behind her. Jesse was just grateful he'd arrived safely. Whatever it was that made the trip through a Stargate so much fun for his enhanced friends, wasn't something he shared. It just felt weird to him. Oh well, he'd suck it up and deal too. He was here to do a job, that was the important thing.
Xander frowned. Colonel Everett's attitude and scent indicated disdain for Dr. Weir and antagonism, if not outright hostility, toward Major Sheppard. He clearly didn't care for either of them. Xander wondered why. Hostility like that was usually personal, yet as far as he knew, they'd never met. Something to keep an eye on perhaps. He glanced at Kyle, who looked back at him, then looked at the tableaux playing out in front of him and looked back. Oh yah, he saw it too.
Then Colonel Everett was introducing them to Dr. Weir.
"Dr. Weir this is a specialist team that General O'Neill sent along to help with the defense of the city. They're affiliated with a sister Command of the SGC. Unfortunately, I don't have the clearance to know any specifics, but what I can tell you, is that they've been enhanced and are stronger than Jaffa as a result. These five." He said, indicating the Pack members. "Also have a naturally occurring Ancient gene."
"Welcome to Atlantis, Mr. Harris." Dr. Weir said.
"If you're going to be formal, ma'am, it's Alpha. But you can call me Xander. This is my wife and co-leader, Cordelia, our Betas, Kyle and Rhonda, and our Packmates, Tor and Faith and our team medic, Jesse McNally. If you can direct him to your infirmary, he can help your doctor, as well as fill him in on some specific medical needs we have because of our augmentation."
She directed a corpsman to show Jesse to Dr. Beckett and turned back to the Pack.
"What can you tell about your augmentation, Xander?" She asked.
"We have enhanced strength, heightened senses, including hearing, sight and the ability to scent emotional and physical health, as well as some psychic abilities. Limited but still measurable."
"Sounds impressive. Do I have the clearance to know any specifics?"
"No, ma'am. It's Classified at the highest levels, ma'am."
"Very well. Shall we plan the defense of our city?"
As the planning began Xander noted that Everett seemed convinced his approach to the defense of the city was flawless. His scent, as well as his attitude indicated arrogance. That didn't bode well. When Major Sheppard objected to using all of the mines they'd brought to mine the solar system, using the short range spacecraft the expedition had, called jumpers, Xander felt he needed to say something as well.
"I have to agree with Major Sheppard, it seems short-sighted to put all our eggs in one basket, as they say. We should keep some of the mines in reserve."
"These mines could seriously cripple these Wraith ships. As I understand it, their ships don't have any shielding. It's better to try to take them out at a distance, than to wait for them to get here. We will deploy the mines. Major see to it."
"Yes sir, but I want my objection on record."
"Mine as well." Xander said.
"So noted. Alpha Harris, given your Pack, as you call them, have enhanced strength, perhaps you would be so kind as to help with the install of the rail guns?"
Oh yah, definite disdain.
Xander raised an eyebrow and just looked at the Colonel. After a moment, some instinct, had the Colonel lowering his eyes. Once he did that Xander nodded at his Pack and they began helping to move the heavy rail guns into position. This wasn't starting out well.
Jesse arrived in the infirmary and was introduced to Dr. Carson Beckett, who was happy to have a Medic sent to him. Jesse explained his purpose and his training.
"I'm here with a specialist team. I'm afraid you don't have the clearance to know any details Doctor. But what I can tell you, is that all of the team members have been enhanced. They're all stronger than Jaffa. Consequently, they have some specific medical needs. They heal a good deal faster than a normal human. They have thicker bones, which could make CPR a problem. And a heightened metabolism. They need a high calorie, high protein diet or they begin to lose weight rapidly. We won't be here past the defense of the city, so hopefully that won't be much of a concern. We've brought some specially created meal bars with, that are just for our team. They're clearly labeled in one of the crates. I've had a corpsman move it into a closet off the arrival area, and put a note on the door that it's medical supplies and not to be touched."
"Aye, probably a good idea. Tell me of your training, so I know where best to put you."
"I am trained in traditional Chumash medicine. The Chumash are a Native American Tribe. I have EMS training and Combat certifications, as well as a bachelors in human biology."
"Excellent, let's start you with triage and go from there, shall we?"
"Yes sir."
Xander frowned again when he saw Colonel Everett and Major Sheppard returning from somewhere. The Colonel had apparently wanted a private word, because now Major Sheppard's scent indicated defensiveness and Colonel Everett was radiating open hostility. This really wasn't starting out well.
Rhonda wandered over. "Something's up over there." She murmured softly. Yah, the whole Pack was noticing it.
"Pass the word, keep an eye on the Colonel, discretely." Xander murmured back.
Rhonda left to do so. What was Colonel Everett's problem?
