I apologize for the long silence. I meant to make this announcement several months ago, but many things in my life suddenly turned upside down and prevented me from finding the time and energy to do so. I will spare you from that long story and cut to the chase:
This fanfic and the BOTF series are being discontinued.
My reasons for ending the series as a whole stem from my loss of interest in it. I initially planned to go back and edit the old stories to make the dialogue and certain scenes more cohesive, but my motivation would always disappear. I don't know if stories that closely follow the main plot points of movies, books, and episodes are allowed here anymore, and most of the stories follow episodes closely. I hope to bring Coba and Ian (my version of Beast Boy's son) back for future stories, but they'll be in a separate AU from this series. Coba might also either A) have different powers, B) have different parents or C) all of the above. Also, I plan on having the canon characters being much more in character in future stories instead of just yelling at Coba for no reason or being overprotective of her just to push the plot forward. I'll also be MUCH more open to constructive criticism going forward (while I've gotten a bit better at it over the years, there's still plenty of room for improvement).
As for this fanfic itself... Oh boy.
It has become more stressful than fun to write. When I started the story, I didn't have a clear idea of where I wanted to take it. My motivation kept dropping, then brand new ideas would spring up, then I would struggle to incorporate them into the fic, then I would go back and edit it, etc. It became an endless cycle of editing instead of progressing. There's also the fact that the reader pretty much already knows what happened to Kairi, but, despite this, I kept playing it on as some kind of big secret, which makes no sense. Overall, it was a big project to undertake, and I wasn't ready to take it on.
There's also the character Augustus...
Even though I still really like how the fight in the most recent chapter went, I regret ever making this character. While part of that is because he's the son of Donnie and April (even though I had him and his late sister be test tube babies resulting from Donnie wanting kids of his own and April volunteering to be the surrogate but still wanting to know them instead of Donnie and April actually being a couple (which I don't think I explained)), it's more because of how dark I initially went with him. Even though I killed him off, I more or less scared myself from writing more for this story just by making him.
As I stated before, there is a chance that I will be making more stories with Coba and Ian. At this time, though, I still have a lot to deal with before I can write about them again.
Farewell, Batgirl Of The Future. It was a fun run, especially at first.
I would like to thank everyone who has favorited and followed these stories over the past ten and a half years. This series may not have lasted as long as it did without you! I hope to see you all again when I put out future stories.
