Elena woke up the next morning on the couch. Her recollections of the night before quickly came back. She was with Klaus and Elijah. She supposed it was too much to ask for leaving with them to have been a dream. Actually, if she was wishing for something to be a dream, she would like the last couple of days to be a dream. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to be happening.

Elena looked around the room. She didn't see Klaus or Elijah anywhere. She wasn't sure how long she'd be alone, so she decided to take the opportunity to contact her family and friends. She pulled out her phone and called Stefan.

"Elena?" Stefan asked in a worried tone.

"Yeah. Talk quietly. I don't know if Klaus and Elijah can hear you over the phone," Elena said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Are you okay? Have they done anything?" Stefan asked quietly.

"I'm fine. Klaus doesn't want to hurt me. He brought me here because he thinks he's somehow protecting me," Elena told him.

"Elena, if he told you that, he's lying," Stefan said.

"I don't think so. Klaus knows my biological father. I think they're friends, or at least were friends," Elena said. Honestly, that kind of worried her. What kind of person could her father be to be friends with someone like Klaus. Then again, Elijah had insinuated that her father no longer spoke to Klaus because of the kind of person he was.

Before anything else could be said, she felt her phone being yanked out of her hand. She turned to see Klaus behind her holding her phone. "Hey!"

Klaus brought the phone to ear. "Hello, Stefan. I'm afraid Elena has to go. Bye."

"You're a dick!" Elena snapped once he hung up on Stefan. She then reached for her phone, which Klaus immediately held out of her reach.

"We had a deal, sweetheart," Klaus reminded her.

Elijah came out at that moment.

"Yes, and I kept my end of it. I came here with you. Not talking to my friends wasn't part of the deal," Elena said.

"Well, you consider it a part of the deal now. No calls," Klaus said firmly before putting her phone in his pocket.

"Elena, try to understand that we are only trying to keep you safe," Elijah said.

"My friends are not a danger to me. I don't care what you guys say, they won't turn on me," she said. That's what she kept telling herself anyway. She had to believe that they wouldn't abandon her. She had to at least believe that of Stefan and her family.

"I hope you're right, but right now, you can't fully defend yourself, so we have to look out for you," Elijah said.

"At least until your father arrives, which will be sometime today," Klaus said.

"Stop calling him that. My father was Grayson Gilbert. I don't even know this guy," Elena said.

"He's a good man, Elena. I promise you, he will only wish to help you," Elijah told her.

"What is he? What am I?" Elena asked.

"That is not for us to divulge. It's not our place, but you will have your answers today," Elijah promised.

"And until then, you will do as we say," Klaus said in a firm tone.

Elena glared at him. "Or what? You'll compel me? I'm wearing vervain."

"Which I can easily yank off your neck," he said threateningly.

"Or I could stab you again. Things aren't the way they were a few days ago," Elena said. Maybe she was being a little arrogant, but she wasn't going to bow down to this man anymore. She was sick of his threats to her and her loved ones.

Klaus looked at her for a minute. She wasn't wrong. Things were much different than they were before the sacrifice, which meant he might not even be able to compel her now. He couldn't compel Lucifer. "Take off your necklace, Elena."

"You're crazy if you think I'm doing that," Elena said.

"Niklaus, you will not compel her. She's done everything we've asked, and you know Lucifer will not be pleased," Elijah said. If Lucifer coveted one thing, it was free will. He would not be happy if they took that from his daughter.

"I don't want to compel her, I want to see if she can be compelled," Klaus told his brother.

"I'm not letting you compel me, even as a test," Elena said firmly. She didn't know what Klaus would ask her to do. For all she knew, he would use the opportunity to get her to do whatever he wanted. She didn't trust him.

"Will you allow me to do it. If we're right, it will give you the peace of mind of knowing you can never be compelled again. I promise I will only ask you to stand up and cross the room," Elijah told her.

Elena hesitated. She trusted Elijah much more than she did Klaus. If he promised not to take advantage, he would keep his word. She still didn't like the idea of being compelled though. However, it would be nice to know she didn't have to worry about being compelled anymore, provided that their theory was right. Reluctantly, Elena unhooked her necklace and placed it down on the table.

"Thank you," Elijah said before kneeling down in front of her and looking at her directly in the eyes. "Elena, stand up and walk over to the window."

Elena slowly began to smile. "No."

"Well, that's good to know, even if it is inconvenient," Klaus said.

Elena sighed in relief. She was glad to know she no longer needed to worry about keeping her necklace on her at all times or not having some sort of vervain on her or in her system at all times. She didn't have to worry about it being ripped off of her. She couldn't be compelled anymore. "Thank you."

Elijah looked at the necklace that was now on the coffee table. It looked familiar. He'd seen the necklace on Elena before, but he'd never gotten this close a look before. The closest he'd gotten before was when he ripped if off of Elena to compel her, and he hadn't really cared enough to pay attention to anything other than the fact that it had vervain in it. "Elena, may I see you necklace for a moment."

"Sure. Just let me take the vervain out," Elena said before picking up the necklace and removing the piece of vervain in it. She then handed it to Elijah.

"Where did you get it?" Elijah asked as he looked it over.

"Stefan gave it to me. He was worried Damon would try to compel me, so he put vervain in it and asked me to wear it. Why?" Elena asked.

"I'm fairly certain this belonged to my mother," Elijah said.

"Let me see," Klaus said before taking the necklace. He stared at it for a few minutes. "Huh. It does look like the thing Rebekah was always wearing. She must have given it to Stefan after their little fling."

"Who the hell is Rebekah?" Elena asked.

"Our sister. She was traveling alone with Niklaus for a while before he daggered her," Elijah said before sending a glare his brother's way.

"Stefan gave me a necklace belonging to another woman?" Elena asked with an edge to her voice. She didn't consider herself to be very jealous, but she also didn't like the fact that her boyfriend had given her a necklace he got from a past flame.

Klaus chuckled as he saw the young woman's eyes flash red for a second. "There's your father's temper. In Stefan's defense, he doesn't remember. I compelled him to forget meeting us."

Elena rolled her eyes. "Of course. Keep the necklace. It belongs to you, and I don't want something from Stefan's ex, even if he doesn't remember her.

"Shall I get you some breakfast, Elena? I'm sure you must be hungry, and I believe we have a long wait ahead of us," Elijah said.

"That would be great. Thank you, Elijah," Elena said.

Elijah nodded before leaving the room.

By the time he got to Mystic Falls, Lucifer deeply regretted taking his private plane instead of using his wings. At first, he'd wanted the extra time to think about this girl that might be his daughter, but after just a short time, it just started to agitate him. All he could do was think about how terrifying it would be to be a father. He didn't even like kids, and while this girl wasn't exactly a child, he hated teenagers even more. He didn't even know what he would do with a child. He didn't know how to be a father. The only example he had was his own, and that was a very poor example. What if he failed her.

Lucifer tried to calm himself down as he neared Niklaus' apartment. He didn't even know yet that the girl was his daughter. The very idea seemed impossible. Niklaus could be lying or wrong.

Lucifer stopped at the front door and took a deep breath before knocking. The door was opened a moment later by Elijah Mikaelson.

"Hello, Lucifer," Elijah said.

"Elijah," Lucifer greeted.

"Please come in," Elijah said before moving aside to let his old friend inside.

"I told your brother on the phone that the two of you had better not be playing me for a fool," Lucifer said as he walked inside.

Klaus stood up from the chair he was sitting in. "Hello, my friend. This is Elena."

Lucifer watched as a young woman got up from the couch and turned to him. One look at her, and he no longer had any doubt. She looked quite a bit like him, and somewhere inside him, he just knew. She was his daughter.
