Dim light filled the shadow of the stable as Adryenn sat, propped up, on a bail of hay staring at the ceiling, lost in thought. Stalactites hung from the gloom branching down in various shapes and sizes.
I miss seeing the stars…..Those bright lights used to adorn the night sky everytime we set up camp. I did not think I would end up in the Deep Roads so soon yet something keeps bringing me back here.
Argo let out a sudden neigh and Adryenn's eyes shot forward to the doorway. There stood Wrayth with the sadistic grin still across his face.
"Good evening lady" he began "All alone?"
Adryenn grabbed her sword and drew, pointing the blade in the direction of her unwanted guest.
"Leave now!" Adryenn spat "Did your master not tell you to stay away."
"Actually he just told me to not enter your chambers, I am free to roam as you are. Come lady this need not be unpleasant, drop your blade…"
"Like hell I will" Adryenn interrupted abruptly, eyes focused on Wrayth. Her teal eyes bore deep into his with disgust and loathing.
Wait! How is it I cannot sense his taint? I could not even sense him coming?
"What are you? I cannot sense you. You are no ordinary darkspawn are you?"
"You would be correct…" Wrayth raised his arm and let out a bolt from his hand, it lit the room with a flash and Adryenn suddenly was engulfed in lightning. The bolts wrapped around her form like chains. She screamed in agony, the blade dropped from her hand and clanged as it catapulted to the opposite side of the room. Argo bucked and neighed in distress as his mistress fell to the floor, sucking in every breath to her scorched lungs.
Wrayth walked over and hovered above before straddling her limp body and locking her wrists with his gauntlet hands. He leaned in close.
"You play a dangerous game lady. I said did I not we were a
new breed. I am the Architect's top emissary, my power out does any darkspawn. I was one of the first of my brethren he set free and gave intelligence. I was off scouting in other parts of the Deep Roads far north during your fight with the Mother; my master joined me soon after. We both traveled back for you. As for the taint I am able to suppress it, not even a Grey Warden could feel me coming."
Adryenn, regaining some of her strength, head butted Wrayth to the side of his face, he growled and slammed her back into the stable floor pressing his hips to her body, using his weight to hold her down.
"You felt it too, did you not? The change in your taint! My blood coursed through your veins, merging…molding. Your senses coming alive like a raw flame. When you were gestating in your womb I felt every jolt of pain you endured. I felt your decent to the dark, the black oozing around you."
Wrayth crossed her wrists above Adryenn's head and held vast with one hand. His other made contact with her hip and Adryenn gasped. Slowly it caressed up her body, across her waist, ribs and eventually her neck which he squeezed until she was gasping for breath. They were face to face now, close enough to feel Wrayth's breath on her face.
"Yes…yes I can see in your eyes the black chasm of hate and despair, no fear of death but wanting it. It is like that bird from the surface….a raven. Black as pitch and the symbol of death and depravity. A fitting name for you…Raven!"
Wrayth released her neck and climbed to his feet. Adryeen remained on the floor staring wide eyed at him, hand on her neck covering the wounds he had left.
"You will soon see things my way, Raven. We are bound you and I" Wrayth left without another word.
Adryenn slowly got up and hobbled over to Argo who was pacing back and forth in one corner. She placed her hand on his neck and main to calm him. Never had she felt such power. Dare she think it but Wrayth could even give tan Archdemon some trouble. She needed to speak to the Architect!
