My beautiful Angel of death

Ch. 1

It had been years since he had shown up and I don't know how many years or days it's been since then. My mind doesn't quite work the way it used to. I can't remember anymore, I have been starving since I don't know when and don't remember the last time I ate anything. Mankind are now almost completely extinct. All because this being that had shown up one day on our planet. There is no food anymore either. I don't remember the last time I ate anything and I don't remember what he looked like… there was just too much chaos on that day. I only remember trying to hide and not get killed. A lot of good that did. Here I am in some building that's been almost completely destroyed and is barely standing on it's own somehow and I am under it in the basement and starving to death. There's no water anymore either but I manage to gather some from the rain that leaks into the building in some bowls. The water isn't clean either. I have no way to make a fire either to sanitize it, much less find wood to burn. I don't even have the strength to go look for anything even if wanted to.

It's dark and cold down here at night and it leaks… sometimes it floods… but that hasn't happened in a long time… I barely see the sun anymore either but my eyes have adjusted and I am able to see a little in the dark. It doesn't matter anyways to me anymore. I'm just waiting for death to visit me at this point. There is no hope for me anymore, not like there was to begin with, mind you.

Every now and then I'll hear a building in the distance collapse and I just lay back down on my dirty bedding I have and rest my eyes hoping death will take me. I haven't had food in so long, I have become used to not having any… but I'll admit I sometimes think about it but I try not to because it's so depressing.

I have been down here for so long that I rarely hear anything on the outside anymore. It has been a while since I heard anything. I usually just lay in the quiet and I would usually sleep or rest since there wasn't anything else to do, I would always lay there and think it might be nice to actually talk to somebody or see somebody for once, but I haven't seen anybody for years or days, who know how long ago, not since that little group that was with me left to go search for food. Their pallets and belongings lay abandoned in the corner covered in dust.

The day he showed up was a usual day, just like any other when it happened, I'm not originally from the city, my house actually is in the country; me and my family had came here to the city to have a family outing or maybe they were friends? I don't remember. That's when everything happened and what with all the chaos and people dying, we weren't able to make it out of the city and got separated from them only to never see them again or I think that's what happened and here I am down in this cold basement, bored and starving and lonely but as I've said I've gotten to the point where I have rested most of the time, hoping that death would just come and take me away. I can't seem to move anywhere, not like I could try even if I wanted to for I have no strength. Trying to move much took a lot of effort and energy and it was energy that I didn't possess.

When that group that left, didn't come back, I heard explosions and some yelling and screaming, and then everything was quiet again and I never heard from them again and ever since then I've been too scared and terrified to even leave my hiding place.

I figured at this point it didn't matter how many days or how many years have gone by, they just didn't matter anymore, so I just laid there on my little pallet that was hard and hoped that one day I would just pass peacefully in my sleep maybe but I knew in my heart that was a pipe dream and that I was going to lie here and slowly die of starvation and exhaustion, and no one was going to come save me.

Today was a day just like any other day, and it was quiet just like any other day; only today turned out very differently around the time that the sun started to go down. I could tell because of what little bit of light that did come through the ceiling was starting to fade, but I could still see pretty good, I heard loud sounds outside and I heard the building shift a little bit and as I'm laying there, listening and laying there not really comprehending what was going on because as I've said my mind doesn't quite work the way it used to work and that's because my memory's been pretty bad since I don't get enough food.

I'm, not really staring at anything, just laying there unable to sleep but unable to stay awake and I hear the faint sounds of footsteps and the sound of a door and it also sounded like parts of the building being ripped apart. I guess at this point I really didn't care what was going on but now that I think about it, that's all I remember.

I don't know why, but for some reason the sound of the door sounded very close to me and I lifted my head just a little bit to see if I could see what was happening. There was a dark figure coming down the steps. I could tell it was a man by how tall and bulky he was and he was also handsome. He wore a mask and it had markings on it as well and he held a pink scythe in his right hand which is my favorite color. I knew it… the angel of death had come for me at last.

He stood there above me, looking down on me. I couldn't move much. I lifted my head. "Are.. are you the angel of death?"

He looked at me for a long moment and didn't say anything. "You're certainly not what I had expected but you're very handsome and dark. I love it!" I always did like the color black and especially on men. Well I'm ready to go. I'm tired of being tired and hungry."

He only looked at me, not saying anything. I suppose angels don't talk so I laid my head back down and closed my eyes, waiting for death to take me. I fell asleep.

::Meanwhile as Ann Slept::

Goku Black was flying over the ruined city. Sometime before he had seen Ann in person, Son Goku and Vegeta had shown up and only after he had left the basement, did they start following him because he was acting different.

"She's still alive!? How is that even possible!? There is no way…. I thought she had died! I know there was some time travel changes and all but I had thought she had died! She looks so horrible! No! I can't let nothing happen to her. I have to find her, what mortals call food." Goku black says aloud to himself.

Black goes looking inside of ruined buildings, He finds a bag to fill with things. He's so set on what he's doing he's not even worried about being followed even though he knows they are there, Goku and Vegeta are watching him but he doesn't care.

"What is he doing?" Goku asks Vegeta. Vegeta doesn't answer but only watches and listens as Black starts talking to himself as he looks through rubble.

"Now what do mortals eat? I don't have a clue what I am looking for. Sure I have watched over them for a long time but what do they eat exactly? I know they eat meat and vegetables." He picks up a can of food and examines the can, not sure what to look for. The can says ravioli on it. "I have no idea what this is but oh well. It looks like food." He then puts it in his bag with a few other cans of food he managed to find.

Vegeta makes a face and Goku also looks confused. "Why is he getting food? I thought he didn't need food." Goku asks Vegeta.

"He doesn't, let's just watch him." Vegeta answers, hiding behind a wall but they fly off as Black does, keeping their distance.

As he flies he begins talking to himself again. "I need to tell Zamasu, he'll be pleased."

They continue to follow him and he manages to find a couple of bottles of water and puts it in the bag. He also found a soft pink blanket in one of the wrecked buildings and dusts it off and puts it in the bag.

Black then heads back to the basement where he had seen her earlier. Goku and Vegeta peek through a crack in the ceiling to watch. Black goes inside but the girl is still asleep. Black unpacks all the food and the water and lays everything near her and lastly, he pulls the blanket out slowly and looks at it, then at her, he then kneels down next to her and he gently drapes it over this girl, that Vegeta and Goku had never seen before. As he does so, he gently and carefully pushes a piece of the girl's hair back with his hand, to see her face. He stares at her for a moment and takes off a glove and with the back of his hand, he gently caresses her cheek. She stirs only a little and lets out a little moan but she stays asleep.

"I'll be back soon sweetheart." Black whispers.

Vegeta and Goku look at each other in confusion. As Black is leaving, Vegeta and Goku scramble to move from their spot and choose to hide somewhere nearby, hiding their ki.

Goku and Vegeta decide not to follow for now. "We won't follow him for now. He said he would be back, we'll see what he does next." Vegeta says to Goku.

Goku nods. "What should we do until then?"

Vegeta thinks for a moment. "We stay close by the girl and see what she does. Maybe she can clue us in on what's going on."

::Meanwhile at Black and Zamasu's cabin::

Zamasu is outside drinking tea when Black returns and lands on the cabin's balcony and removes his mask. Zamasu takes a sip of tea and looks at Black. "That took you a while. What were you up to?" He takes another drink of tea.

"She's alive Zamasu." Black says looking down at him.

Zamasu spits out his tea and looks at black with a shock on his face and in his voice. "Wh… What?"

Without any expression but a slight excitement in his voice. "She's alive, I found her in the city by accident. She's hiding in one of the ruined buildings. I was looking for mortals that were in hiding and there she is…" He stopped talking to allow his counterpart to process what he had just said.

Zamasu was now breathing heavily and was shocked. "How is she still alive?"

Black shook his head. "I don't know. She seemed like she was pleased to see me and called me the angel of death and thought I was going to kill her. Then she fell asleep. I was so surprised that I couldn't say anything to her but look at her." Black paused, thinking and when Zamasu didn't know what to say and he was staring at the trees, he continued. "She didn't look good either. She was pale, and starved for sunlight and food. Before I returned, I gathered some food and water for her and left it there for her. She was asleep still."

Zamasu was thinking of the past. "We… We can't leave her there!"

Black sighed. "I know that, but I don't want to scare her either, or traumatize her. Remember, she's been through so much and she almost died because of us." At this point Black starts to get angry. "She's the reason we did all of this to begin with! It was all that Saiyan's fault!" He clenches his fists so hard they bleed but they heal instantly.

Zamasu looks at him "Calm down. We will figure this out, the important thing is that she is alive."

Black calms himself. "How are we going to get her here without scaring her? She thinks I'm the angel of death, sent to kill her!" Black finds himself getting upset all over again.

Zamasu suddenly looks so sad and lets out a sigh. "I don't know…. but we have to figure it out. You should go back to her…. watch her and see what she does. Then maybe visit her again and show her that you're not going to hurt her."

Black thinks about the meeting he had with her and nods slowly. "Very well. That sounds like a plan, then we will go from there. While I am doing that, what will you do?"

Zamasu looks at Black. "I'm going to try and prepare a room for her." He then remembers something and looks upset. "I now wished I hadn't destroyed those dragonballs. I could have just wished for her room to have the nice things she deserves."

Black frowns and sighs. They both stand in silence for several seconds then Black speaks again. "Actually not all the buildings are destroyed completely, maybe there are some nice things in some of the homes that we could find? If we both go and look we can find things maybe?"

Zamasu nods. "That is a good idea." With that they fly off towards town.

::Meanwhile Back in the City::

Vegeta and Goku are near the hole to peek at the girl and she suddenly wakes up. She sits up slightly and looks around then her eyes stop upon the food and water. She then looks around some more like she is looking for someone. She immediately grabs the water and opens it and chugs it and sighs after drinking a third of the bottle. She picks up a can of food and looks at it and the date and then she pops the top of the food and smells it.

She lets out an mmm sound "Smells delicious!"

She notices there is some throw away silverware near the food and she grabs it and eats the food. She gobbles it up but when she is about almost done she stops because her stomach hurts. She had forgotten how long it had been since she had eaten so the eating so fast must have hurt her stomach. She drinks some more water and puts the top back on.

"I wonder who left these? Could it have been the angel of death that visited me? Was I losing my mind and seeing things? I was sure he was real. Why would an angel of death help someone who is dying anyway?" she says this out loud to herself.

Vegeta and Goku look at each other in confusion. None of this made sense. They continue to watch her. She doesn't do much else but then notices the blanket on her and lets put a gasp.

"What!? I get this pretty blanket too!? I'm so confused! I feel warmer too." She takes the soft blanket and rubs the fabric against her cheek, smiling. "mmm.. Well, one thing is for certain. If they did this, they can't be all bad. After all I have been through so much, this is the first time in a long time anyone has shown me any sort of kindness." She starts crying into the blanket then.

She spends a while crying and then falls asleep again.

::Meanwhile somewhere else in the city::

Zamasu and Black split up and search the buildings and take stuff back to their cabin. This task took hours and the only thing that Vegeta and Goku did as they waited was meditate. They didn't want to attract attention to themselves, after trying to fight before and leaving, it was a nice change that things didn't go the way they did before. After a couple of hours, Black returned to where the girl was and Vegeta and Goku went back into hiding again.

Black only smirked but never looked in their direction. He knew they had followed him, he just never let them know, and truth be told he could care less about that now that he knew she was alive. He knew they would never hurt the girl. That's why he never did anything. Vegeta and Goku only watched as he descended down into the basement. Vegeta and Goku watched through a crack in the ceiling just as they did before. She was sound asleep and she seemed to be sleeping more soundly now. He stood there for several moments, watching her sleep before kneeling beside her, and once again he gently moved her hair to the side to see her face. He watched her silently sleep for several moments.

"I can't believe you're alive sweetheart. I made them all pay for what happened to you." he whispers as he gently rubs her cheek with the back of his right hand. "I'm sorry I wasn't there but I'm here now. No one will ever harm you again."

Vegeta and Goku look at each other in confusion. Goku Black sits down to wait. Vegeta and Goku go some distance from the basement crack to talk.

"Vegeta I'm confused. Why did he do that to her hair? I thought he hated mortals. Isn't she a mortal though?" Goku says to Vegeta.

Vegeta looks at Goku in irritation. "Yes, she is a mortal and he moved her hair as a sign of affection… I.. I have done it with my wife, Bulma as she slept. Haven't you ever done that with your wife!?"

"Well no I haven't but what does that have to do with this?" Goku says.

Vegeta growls. "I don't know how you're still married. Look Goku, apparently Black and Zamasu know this girl and they share an affection for her and they thought she was dead but she's not. Also something had happened to her before. There's a lot more to this story than we know but that's all I can gather."

They suddenly hear a scream from the basement and they rush over to see if she is okay and Vegeta is hoping she is alright. They look down in the hole.

Black talks to the girl in a calming voice. "It's ok, It's ok, I'm not going to hurt you." he had laid his scythe down and had his hands up to try and calm her.

She looked scared at first but as she looked at him, she seemed more calm. "Oh yeah I saw you earlier, My beautiful angel of death. Only you didn't take me. I remember now." She places a hand on her head and closes her eyes. "Since eating something I can think a bit more clearly now, though, things are still fuzzy." She looks at him. "Are you the one that brought me the food and water?"

Black nods slowly to her. She then moves towards him slightly to see his reaction, but he does nothing, so she rushes to him and hugs him deeply. "Thank you! Thank you so much!" She starts crying into his chest. "I haven't eaten in so long." He seemed surprised but he gently holds her back and caresses her head with his hand.

She cries for a little while as he holds her not saying anything. After a few minutes pass, she looks up at him, with tears in her eyes. "Are you going to take my life now? Did you only feed me and make me feel better only to take my life now?" She starts crying all over again.

Looking down at her Black caresses her cheek and wipes a tear away and shakes his head. "No I'm not going to take your life, or hurt you." He had almost said her name but he stopped himself. "I'm not the Angel of death."

Vegeta made a hmph sound at that comment. Black heard it but he wasn't about to let this moment be ruined, so he ignored it.

She looked him up and down. "You look like him though, you're dressed in black and you even have a scythe like the angel of death." She was gripping his clothes at this point. All she could think about was how handsome he seemed. "Can I see your face, or is it a skeleton like I hear in stories? Not that it matters…. You have been so kind to me…I wouldn't care what you looked like but I'd like to see your face please, if it's OK that is." she asked shyly.

This made Black laugh a little. "No sweetie it's not a skeleton." He then takes off his mask and looks into her eyes. He sees no fear in her eyes, only awe.

She blushes. "You're very handsome for an Angel of death." She laughs at what she just said. "I'm sorry I know you said that you're not the angel of death but when I first saw you, I felt as though an Angel had visited me… silly I know and I'm sorry."

"You said you didn't remember a lot of things, do you remember your name?" Black asks.

She thinks for a moment. "Yes, My name is Ann, What's your name?"

"Za.,,. I mean Goku Black but people just call me Black for short." He tells her not knowing how she will respond.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Goku Black, and thank you for your kindness." Ann says.

"It is all my pleasure, Ann." He then kisses her hand. "I want to take you away from this dismal basement. That is, if you will allow me to. I would very much like to take you to a place that is warm and comfortable. I promise you will be safe." He says looking down at her. He can almost feel her heart pounding in her chest.

She thinks about it for a moment then looks around the basement, thinking of how nice it would be to get out of this place. She looks back at Goku Black and nods. "Yes please, I am tired of being down here but I'm afraid walking is out of the question, since I have become so weak, I am unable to walk much. My legs have grown weak."

She lifts the blanket to show how thin her legs have become.

Goku Black frowns. "I'm sorry this has happened to you. You didn't deserve this. Not to worry sweetheart I will carry you… are you afraid of heights?"

"um.. a little. Why?" Ann asks in confusion.

He picks her up, wrapping her up in the pink blanket because the night air is chilly and puts the mask in Ann's lap wrapped in the blanket and starts carrying her outside. Vegeta and Goku move from their spot to hide again.

Ann holds onto him, around his neck, staring at his face as he carries her out of the ruined building making her heart pound and her cheeks blush. Finally he looks down at her. "I can fly into the sky, so I hope that's OK… it will be faster… the place I am taking you, is not in the city but is some distance from here."

She nods. "That's alright, do what you have to." She then smiles.

With that, he flew off towards the cabin, with Ann in his arms. She looks all around but doesn't make a sound as she is looking at the buildings below for a little while. Finally with tears in her eyes, she speaks.

"All this destruction, is there anyone left? I haven't been outside in so long. It looks so different now." Ann asks, but Black doesn't know exactly what to say so he pretends for the moment not to hear her.

She looks at the sky and it is cloudy and hardly any light. "What happened to the sun?" Still she got no answer but she looked up at him as he hugged her to himself and glanced down for a moment and their eyes met and she blushed and looked away, but as the reached the cabin in the woods, the sky is clearer and she can see the stars. She stares at them, not even paying attention to him landing on the balcony of the cabin.

::Meanwhile as Black flew off::

Vegeta and Goku watches him fly off, with Ann in his arms. "Well looks like he'll be busy for a while." Vegeta says.

Goku looks at Vegeta. "What do we do now? You think the girl will be alright?"

Vegeta looks from the sky to Goku. "She'll be fine. We need to go find trunks and see if he knows anything about that girl and how Zamasu and Black know her."
