Chapter 13: Home Sweet South

Like Remy promised, they left once everyone was asleep, Rogue relieved to get out of the house and be by herself with Remy with no one else. Remy can tell her mood changed, which made him relieved, but deep down he was still worried about going back to New Orleans.

He drove them out of New York and got them down to Virginia, which at this point they stopped at a motel to rest. Rogue sleepily walks towards the bed, Remy setting down their things. He cracks a smile at her and joins her in bed, Rogue immediately snuggling up to him. "Tired?" Remy smiles as he asks softly.

Rogue nods sleepily. "Ah've felt so tired… Ah'm soo sleepy."

Remy chuckles, placing a kiss on her head, his arms wrapping around her. "Sleep, mon amour. Got anot'er day o' drivin' befo' we arrive in N'leans."

Rogue yawns and nods, nuzzling her head into his chest then she was out. Remy smoothes her hair gently, his eyes lidded as he looked down at her sleeping form. He hoped their trip would go quick and without issues so that they could return home. He would hate to stay there longer than what he needs to and also hate putting Rogue in any danger.

Remy kept her close, placing a kiss in her hair as he falls asleep, hoping their drive is smooth the rest of the way.

Morning comes and they were back on the road, Rogue yawning as she was still tired, but she had a cup of coffee with her to see if it would help. Remy drove them down, checking up on Rogue every now and then, the two arriving in New Orleans in late afternoon. "We're heah." Remy says, his voice not sounding to happy to have arrived.

The two step out of the car, Rogue smiling as she noticed it was Mardi Gras. "Hey, it's Mardi Gras." She looks to her boyfriend.

"De perfect work opportunity." Remy smiles back.

"We are not heah fer yer thievin' from innocents." Rogue placed her hands on her hips.

"Fine," Remy shrugs. "Den why don' we get somet'in' t' eat."

He takes her hand, guiding her through the crowds, knowing she was not a fan of crowded areas. Rogue smiles gratefully at him as they enter a restaurant, Remy having found some beads to give her before they went in, then they sit at a table by the door. They ordered some food, Rogue enjoying her few bites she got in after it came out to their table, a smile on her lips. "Man… ah miss this kind of food." She sighs.

Remy smiles. "Maybe I should take y' t' more southern cookin' restaurants den."

"That'd be nice." Rogue smiles, then her face drops a bit. "So what's our plan heah?"

"Well, first we gotta sneak t' de Assassin's Guild, den we have t' find a way inside an' find m' fat'er." Remy looks at her. Thinking of how they're going to sneak in. "I don' want y' t' use y' powahs unless y' have t'. Dis was supposed t' be jus' me, but I also wouldn' want y' t' do anyt'in' y' don' want t'."

Rogue gives him a comforting smile, her hand going on his across the table. "It's fahne, sugah. Ah'm helpin' ya eithah way."

Remy smiles back, squeezing her hand lightly. Once they finish up eating, they leave the restaurant, standing outside the door off to the side to figure out a plan, but were then interrupted by Julian showing up with his men. "Well, well, well," Julian grins. "Look who came back."

"Julian." Remy growls.

Julian eyes Rogue who was in a fighting stance. "An' y' brought y' girl. I'd say dis be easier than I t'ought."

Rogue felt some hands grab her by the arms, Remy too. The two struggle, eventually flipping the men that grabbed them onto their backs. Remy instantly goes for Julian, spite in his eyes as he gets out some cards. Rogue hits several men, feeling adrenaline rush through her as she fights. She cries out as she felt something hard hit the back of her head, crashing towards the ground hard and falling unconscious. Remy pauses, looking over with wide eyes. 'No.' He thinks, panic rising up.

Julian strikes him, causing him to fall. He grins then kicks him, yelling to his men. Remy groans as he opens his eyes, then gasps as he sits up. He looks around for Rogue, panicking as he searches. "Merde." He swears.

Remy grabs his bo staff that had fallen out of his pocket, tucking it away, then he starts running in the direction he knew he needed to go.

"Has anyone seen Stripes or Gumbo?" Logan asks as he walks around the mansion.

"No. Maybe they're on a date?" Kitty answers.

"For two days?" Logan raises a brow.

"Usually Rogue or Remy vould say somezing." Kurt looks at Logan.

"I'm going to tell the Professor." Logan turns, heading up to Charles office.

Logan raises his fist to knock, but Xavier telepathically tells him to enter. "Something bothering you Logan?" Charles asks.

"Didn't need to read my mind to find out." Logan says.

"Yes, well I can tell something's bothering you. What is it?" Charles asks as he looks at the gruff man.

"Rogue and Remy have been gone for a couple days. Last I saw stripes she was pissed off from the danger room session. You don't think they…?"

Charles rubs his chin. "Hm. I don't think they intentionally ran away… perhaps cerebro could tell us."

The two go downstairs to the basement level where cerebro was, the Professor opening the door with his retinal scan, then they enter and pause at the console. Charles puts the helmet on, then searches for either one of the southerners. "I've located Remy." Xavier says, opening his eyes. "He's angered and anxious and had used his powers recently to fight. He's looking for Rogue. It appears she was taken."

"Where is he?" Logan asks.

"New Orleans, French Quarter."

"I'm getting a team ready." Logan says as he quickly heads out.

Remy breathes heavily as he runs through the swamp lands, knowing where he was going. His brain was focused on getting there before Julian could do anything to Rogue. He was more concerned for her than he was for his so called "father" as Rogue meant so much to him. He almost lost her to Julian once, he wasn't going to lose her again.

Stopping in front of a body of water, Remy peers across the lake to see the Assassin's Guild mansion. He takes a boat from the dock and starts up the motor, steering towards the dock on the other side. "'M comin', mon amour." Remy says to himself as his glare was fixed on the massive house.

Rogue wakes up groggily, touching the back of her head and wincing. She pulls her hand back and finds a bit of blood, letting out a soft gasp. "Dat wasn't exactly supposed t' happen but oh well." Julian says as he walks up to her.

"What the hell is wrong with ya?!" Rogue growls, dizzily getting up and ready to fight.

"Ah, ah. Ah wouldn' do dat if I were y'." Julian shoves her back down. "An' I made soah dat y' wouldn' be able t' use y' powers. Can' have y' usin' dem on me o' m' men an' escape t' dat t'ief."

Rogue scowls, her hands tugging at the collar around her neck. "Ah can still kick yoah ass. Ah don't need mah powahs."

Julian snorts, grinning. "Soah y' can."

He grabs her by the arms roughly, shocking her. "I know dis would piss off Lebeau. Kidnappin' his fat'ah was easy and was t' get 'im t' come down 'ere, but y' comin' wit' 'im made it bettah. He's gon' come 'ere t' rescue y' but once he finds y' 'm killin' 'im where he stands."

Rogue gasps, eyes wide. "Ah'm not gonna let ya. Don't ya dare touch him!" She yells at him.

"It'll be easy cause he'll see y' broken on de floor, he'll be t' consumed t' even notice." Julian says lowly.

Rogue brings her knee up to jab him hard in the groin, making him cry out in pain and curl up. Rogue scrambles to get up, dizzily rushing to open the door to the room she was trapped in, then runs out.

Meanwhile, Remy snuck into the house and looked around different rooms. He opens a door only to find his father tied up to a chair. "Remy! I knew y'd come!" Jean Luc grins.

"'M gon' let y' out but 'm not heah t' save y'. 'M savin' m' girlfriend." Remy makes a face as he uses his powers to cut the ropes.

"Girlfriend? She's heah t'??" Jean Luc questioned as he rubbed his wrists.

"Yes! Now 'm goin'. I don' care if y' find y' own way out." Remy growls as he leaves the room in a hurry, Jean Luc following him anyway.

Rogue crashes her shoulder against a wall as she rounds a corner, uses her hands to catch her as they press against the wall. Julian was hot behind her, a pissed off look on his face. "'M gon' kill y' fo' dat!" He yells.

Rogue breathes heavily as she kept her legs running, hearing Julian yelling for his men to get her. She runs down some stairs, tumbling at the last couple steps and crashing down to the floor, crying out as she clutched her ankle. "Ah-shit." She swears as she was in immense pain.

Julian had finally caught up with her and grabbed her by her hair, making her growl. "Y' fuckin' bitch. 'Ll kill y' fo' kickin' me!" He yells, tossing her hard to the ground.

Rogue grimaces but uses her other foot to kick him hard in the upper thigh, then in the waist. Julian yells out in frustration, Rogue scrambling to get up, but she yelps as Julian steps on her leg and grabs a pair of cuffs and holds her up by them, tears threatening to spill out from the pain. "Y' don' know when t' quit, do y'?" Julian spits.

Rogue spits in his face, Julian glaring at her. "Hands off of her!" Remy's voice yells from above, both Julian and Rogue looking up to see an angered Remy.

"Looks like y' got y' fat'er, dat's what y' came fo' right? 'M gon' do y' a favor, Lebeau, and feed 'er t' de gators." Julian grins menacingly.

Rogue kicks at Julian, but he uses a free hand to punch her, then lugs her over his shoulder and runs for the docks. Remy jumps over the railing and lands with ease, then runs after him. Julian tosses Rogue into his speedboat and revs it up, then speeds off, Remy tailing him with Jean Luc getting in the boat. "Y' got me, now let's jus' go home." Jean Luc says, but he receives a glare from his adopted son.

"Not without Rogue." Remy says, then he focuses on driving.

Rogue groans as she sits up, her eyes squinting a bit, but then they glare at the back of Julian's head. She uses her body to switch into a good position, making sure to use her good foot that wasn't hurting. They were a bit aways from the docks as they were in the middle of the lake. She smirks when she hears the familiar sound of the Blackbird come in for a landing across the lake, readying her foot. "Ya won't win this one." She says.

"Oh yeah? An' why's dat?" Julian asks, not bothering to look at her.

"Cause Remy's gonna get ya and so are mah family." Rogue then kicks him in the back, Julian lurching forward, causing the bot to swerve.

Remy notices this and also notices the Blackbird had landed and Logan rushing out with some of the X-men. "Take de wheel." He tells Jean Luc, readying himself to get onto Julian's boat.

Rogue growls as she kicks Julian in the back of his legs, hard, while he yells out. She then props herself up and hobbles a bit before she side tackles him, causing him to lose control of the boat and make it go onto its side, spilling them both out. "Merde!" Remy swears, Jean Luc stopping their boat while he jumps in.

Julian grits his teeth under water, anger written on his face as he charges forward at Rogue. She kicks him, trying her best to swim away, but he grabs her and starts pushing her down further, Rogue's eyes widening as she could feel air bubbles leave her mouth and her vision become blurry.

A fist collides with Julian's face and gut, sending him backwards, then Remy grabs Rogue and puts her cuffed arms over his head and swims up. They both gasp for air, coughing as Rogue tries to rid any water from her lungs. They hear a bamfph and realize Kurt had teleported them to shore, where Jean Luc had docked the boat. "Y' okay?" Remy embraces Rogue.

"Ah'm fahne, ah'm fahne." Rogue sighs in relief.

Logan clears his throat. "Just what were you two thinking?!"

They both wince, Remy looking up at Logan. "Dis was supposed t' be jus' me. I didn' want Rogue comin' at first."

"Ah came with Remy anyway. Ah couldn't stand bein' at the mansion, Logan. Ah'm sorreh." Rogue looks away.

Logan sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'm glad you're both alive, but next time tell us when you plan on taking a trip to save someone okay?"

The two nod, then Remy helps her up and helps her balance. Scott blasted the cuffs off of her wrists, then the collar, Rogue rubbing the areas after. Jean Luc approaches the two, cautious with Remy, but offers a small smile to Rogue. "Y' must be de girlfriend. Remy's only mentioned y'… 'M his fat'er-well adoptive fat'er."

"Oh, Remy's mentioned ya too."

"An' now we're leavin'." Remy tries to guide her away, but Jean Luc places a hand on his shoulder.

"Remy," He says. "Y' need t' come back t' de guild. We need t' settle some t'ings befo' y' can go back."

Remy clenches his jaw. He was about to argue that he wasn't going to leave Rogue when she surprised him. "He won't go unless Ah come and Ah'm stickin' with him. Ah don't care what ya need him ta do, but we stick tagethah." She looked determined as she spoke which made Remy's mouth twitch into a smile.

Jean Luc was surprised. "Well… I t'ink I could arrange somet'in' fo' y' two. Dere's always room fo' more at de T'ieve's Guild."

Logan turns his head after hearing this, shocked. "Wait, stripes. You're not leaving us are you?"

Rogue looks down, a sad smile on her face as Remy had his arm around her. "Ah need some tahme away from the mansion, Logan. We'll be back, but aftah everythin' that has happened evah since ah got home, ah need mah own tahme away from all that. Ah'm still an X-man, ah won't fo'get it."

Logan looks at the two, then sighs deeply. "If that's what you want, then I'm not going to stop you. You both are always welcome back anytime. And you, Gumbo, take good care of her." He gives Remy a serious look.

Remy gives him a small smile. "Don' worry, Wolverine, she'll be safe wit' me, d'ough I t'ink she can also protect 'erself."

Rogue gives him a smile, squeezing him lightly. Logan gives them a small smile. "Alright. See you around, stripes."

"Bye, Logan. We'll be back someday." Rogue smiles sadly.

They say goodbye to the few others that came, then watched them leave, the two southerners wrapped up in each others arms and releasing shaky sighs. "So, Remy, am I going to have to guess your girlfriends name or is she going to tell me?" Jean Luc asks.

"It's Rogue, but ya can also call meh Anna Marie." Rogue smiles slightly.

"Well then, Anna. Let's get y' t' home and dried off." Jean Luc smiles.

"Don' t'ink fo' a second y' can trick 'er int' doin' y' business fo' y' like y' do wit' me." Remy warns.

"Yeesh, fine. I won'." Jean Luc holds his hands up, then they start walking, Rogue hobbling a bit.

"Looks lahke it's just you an' meh again, shugah." Rogue looks up at Remy.

"'M sensing a pattern dat we get int' a lot o' trouble d'ough." Remy smirks.

"Don't worry, we can handle it." Rogue smiles.

"Yes, we can." Remy places a kiss on her lips.

They continue walking out of the bayou and to Jean Luc's mansion known as the Thieves Guild, getting dry clothes once they were inside. Jean Luc kept his promise and gave Remy his own place for him and Rogue in the guild territory. Rogue sighs in content as she lays in bed, tracing her boyfriend's arm. "What are y' thinkin' 'bout?" Remy asks.

"That yoah always be home ta me." Rogue smiles.

"Y' always be m' home t', chère. Je t'aime." Remy kisses her deeply and the two fall back against the sheets.
