The following morning, Rose woke up, not getting much sleep. Remembering the promise she made to her mum, she stood up and not wanting to wake her Uncle or Cousin, she quietly made her way to the living room. She nearly gasped when she found Harry already in the kitchen, in his Auror attire, pouring himself some coffee. "Bloody hell Uncle Harry! " she immediately corrected herself. "I'm sorry! I mean…I didn't see you there..."

Harry chuckled at his niece, taking a sip from the mug "A little piece of Ron aren't you? Are you staying for breakfast? I'm making some sausage and eggs."

Rose smiled at her Uncle, shaking her head "I wish I could but I promised mum I'd be home early..." she said as Harry nodded. Rose walked over to give Harry a quick hug "See you later Uncle Harry, thanks again for letting me stay over."

"No worries kiddo, just let me secure the floo before you go," Harry said walking to the fireplace. He did a few checks for possible links and runes which could have compromised the security but he found none. He gave Rose the all clear as she headed home.

Seconds later, Rose dusted herself off as she stepped into the Weasley living room. It was still relatively early but she found her father, sitting on the couch, with the Daily Prophet in his hand. Ron looked up when he heard his daughter arrive. "Oh, hi dad..." Rose said softly.

"Hi Rose... Happy birthday..." Ron replied just as quietly, his brows furrowed as he stared at an empty space on the Prophet.

Once he had arrived from Gringotts, Hermione had tried to speak to Ron, stating that it wasn't a lack of trust on Rose's part that she hadn't revealed her relationship to him. It was just that their daughter hadn't felt ready. To which he had simply responded "Then why was she ready to tell you?"

That had effectively stopped the conversation there and then. And as a result, Ron had given the parcel with Rose's gift to Hermione so that she could give it to her that day.

"Erm…your mum is still upstairs.."

Rose sighed "Oh well, I was...actually hoping to talk to you..." she said with a sad smile.

Ron nodded, folded his newspaper and placed it on the table, giving Rose an encouraging nod. "Go ahead..."

Rose looked at him, hesitating for a moment before speaking "Dad…I am…so sorry for not telling you...I truly am. I suppose I was just afraid that you wouldn't approve...because I do value your opinion so much..." she said, looking away, and instead focusing on the newspaper that was on the table. "And most of all, I'm sorry that you had to come home and find us in...that situation..."

Ron gave her a small smile and opened his arms beckoning her to side beside him. When she did so, he gave her a side hug and looked down at his daughter, like he used to when she was a little girl. "Rosie, you know you can always be honest with me?"

Rose nodded, wiping away a stray tear from her cheek as Ron continued.

"Even though I'm not the mature parent, my priority will always be your safety and happiness..."

Rose smiled "I know dad...and I promise that from now on i'll be completely honest with you and tell you everything-well not everything..."

Ron looked horrified "No, Merlin no! I don't want to know everything... " They both chuckled "I just want you to trust me. But now tell me, are you happy with Scorpius?"

At his question, Rose smiled widely "I am dad...I really am. He's amazing...but-why don't you like him?"

Ron sighed. "It's not that I don't like Scorpius... It's just…the association with Draco Malfoy. He may have changed after the war, but he was never less than scathing all my school life. It's just something I cannot get over... I'm not like your mum or Uncle Harry who constantly look for the good in other people and forget. And well, the Malfoys have said and done... So many things against the Weasleys... Throughout generations..."

Rose gave him a sad smile and took her father's hand. It reminded Ron of when she was a little girl and she'd have nightmares and he would hold her hand until she fell asleep.

"I understand...and you have every right to be, given the history between the Weasleys and the Malfoys...But Scorpius treats me well and...I love him..."

Ron gave her a smile and said, "I'm glad he does Rose... And I hope that it's as long lasting and strong as what I have with your mum..." He kissed the top of Rose's head and the father daughter duo stayed like that when Hermione found them.

Hermione was smiling at them from the stairs, Rose sat up and gave her father another hug. "Thank you dad...I love you." she said.

Hermione walked to the couch, sat down and gushed while hugging both of them, "Oh how sweet... First thing in the morning too!"

Hugo too had walked in and ran up to them to join the family hug, "Why am I being left out? I want it too!"

Rose groaned lightheartedly "Hugo...you're squishing me!" she said, trying to push her brother off.

"Nope you guys started without me, now I choose when to end the hug" Hugo said while his parents laughed.

Rose rolled her eyes, smiled and the family stayed there for a while longer until Hugo declared he was a growing boy...and also starving. Rose felt overjoyed and glad that she had been able to talk things out with her father. And it seemed Ron was as well, as he smiled brightly at her during breakfast. She felt her birthday was off to a very good start.

That evening Rose's parents were throwing her a small gathering as they did every year. What that had failed to mention was that practically everyone she had ever known would be in attendance. Including Teddy and her Uncle George. Which was rare, as George was occupied with his business and Teddy had just proposed to her cousin Victoire. Rose wasn't necessarily too keen on a party, so after the guests had started arriving, she sat out on her balcony with Lila, breathing in the fresh evening air and enjoying the quiet. She could hear the commotion and conversations downstairs, but turning sixteen could wait a few minutes longer. Hermione had made her wear a red dress and Rose was beginning to feel chilly. She didn't mind, she felt content as she petted Lila's head.

Ron knocked on Rose's door asking for permission to come in. She nodded from the balcony and Ron walked over to her. "This was supposed to be given to you at the end of the night... But I think your mum won't mind if I give it to you now. " He said and gave Rose a small bag where inside a velvet box was a platinum bracelet which was inlaid with fine runes. Clearly, goblin made. Ron helped Rose put it on her wrist.

Rose stared at the bracelet on her wrist in awe then glanced up at her father. "Thank you dad...it's beautiful."

Ron replied with a smile, "You're beautiful. Now let's go downstairs, you can enjoy Lila's company some other time."

Rose groaned lightheartedly "Dad, do I have to? I'd much rather stay here with her..." she said smiling at the owl who hooted in response.

"Yes you absolutely must young lady. It is your birthday after all. And…I am also concerned that your mum ordered a large chocolate and we won't be there to enjoy it." Ron said, offering Rose his arm.

Rose chuckled. Her dad knew well that was her preferred kind of cake. "Say no more, dad. " She stood up, taking Ron's arm. "I'm so glad birthdays are only once a year..." she mumbled.

"I really cannot understand why you don't like your birthday... It's unnatural" Ron said with a smirk as the two of them walked downstairs.

Rose laughed "I just don't like all the fuss...though I will admit, I'll take any excuse to eat that cake..." she said grinning.

Ron looked at her proudly as they entered the dining room. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" The guests shouted. The Potter-Weasley clan, Scorpius and some of the other close friends like the Longbottoms, and Blacks were also in attendance.

Rose gave Ron a betrayed and annoyed look before putting on a smile as people came up to her, wishing her a Happy Birthday. She exchanged glances with Scorpius several times. He grinned widely at her, as more people continued to hug her. When all the greetings were finally over, she walked over to him. "Hi you." She smiled.

Scorpius smiled and gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "You look breathtaking..." He said reverently.

"Thank you...you look pretty dashing yourself." She said with a grin.

Scorpius grinned at that and gave her a package wrapped in parchment. "Open it after the party.. at midnight."

Rose looked down at the small package in her hand "Midnight? "

Scorpius nodded, putting an arm around her "Midnight" he said. "Not before, ok?"

"Fine..." Rose said, nearly pouting. Glancing around the living room she realized there was someone she hadn't seen yet. "Where's Al?"

Scorpius chuckled, "He's on cake pick-up duty. Your mum sent him down to the bakery in Ottery St. Catchpole Village."

"I'd love to see Al in a muggle setting...I don't think he knows muggle currency..." she snickered, taking Scorpius' hand as they both went to sit on the couch.

Scorpius laughed, when his eyes wandered over towards the kitchen. He saw Sirius and Marlene chatting animatedly with Harry. He smiled then Sirius met his gaze. Scorpius gave him a quick thumbs up to which Sirius chuckled.

Sirius had helped Scorpius with the present for Rose. The professor had assured him that this would be the best present he could give Rose. And given the state of Sirius and Madam Black's marriage, Scorpius was inclined to agree.

"I do hope he comes soon... I am hungry" Scorpius said, turning back to Rose.

"I have an idea…while we wait, maybe I can go ahead and open my gift?" She asked, giving Scorpius a sweet smile.

Scorpius was almost tempted to let Rose have her way with him, almost. He had more willpower than he thought.

.

"It has to be midnight... It's going to be worth it, I promise Rose." He whispered into her ear.

Rose nearly shivered when his breath hit her ear. But she cleared her throat, knowing exactly what Scorpius was trying to do. Two could play that game.

"Fine...but then..." she said, leaning forward to whisper in his ear "No kisses till midnight either." She pulled away, nearly bursting out loud by the look on his face.

"You play dirty Rose, I'm impressed..." He said. Scorpius then looked around the room. When he assured no one was watching, he kissed Rose on the corner of her lip "but, can you hold back till then?" He smirked.

"Oh is that a bet, Scorpius Malfoy?" She grinned, shifting to look at him. "Fine, let's make it interesting...If I win, then I get to open my gift before midnight...If not-" she said but Scorpius interrupted her.

"I am not taking that bet. It's a win-win for you isn't it? " Scorpius grinned.

Rose couldn't help but smile as she leaned forward and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "That was on the cheek! Doesn't count." She said, rolling her eyes at Scorpius' wide grin.

….

Meanwhile Albus had reached the village of Ottery and was walking through the doors of Kowalskis. They were the local bakers and his aunt Hermione had asked him to pick up the cake from them. When he entered, the doorbell tinkled. He stood by the corner and looked around. The bakery was empty. Strange. "Hello? Is anyone here?"

Lennie was working in the back of the kitchen, when she heard the bell ding as someone entered the shop. She sighed. Her grandfather had left her in charge of the bakery the entire day and because it was the weekend, it'd been busier than usual. It was now evening and the shop was relatively empty. Aside from a pending order her grandfather had told her someone would be picking up.

Placing one of the cakes she was working on top of the rack, Lennie rubbed her forehead exhausted, not realizing she'd left a small trail of flour on her face. She pushed the door open and walked up to the front counter. There stood a boy around her age with messy dark hair who Lennie wasn't sure she recognized. Normally in such a small town, most people knew each other. But she'd never seen him before. "Hi, can I help you?" She asked politely.

"Umm hi..." Albus said, looking at the beautiful blonde girl who appeared to be about his age, wearing an apron with her clothes and hands dusted with flour. "... My aunt Hermione-err, Hermione Weasley sent me to pick a cake up from you guys..." He said not taking his eyes off of Lennie.

"Oh yes, Mrs. Weasley, she's here often..." Lennie smiled "One second." With that she went back into the kitchen and pulled a cake off the rack, placing it in a small container for larger pastries. As she did so, she thought about the mysterious boy who was just outside. Lennie couldn't deny that he was very handsome. Ignoring that thought, she went back outside, putting the container on the counter. "Here you go..." she smiled, "It'll be 10 pounds..."

Albus fumbled with the money in his pockets. He paid her using the cash he was given and was about to pick up the box with the cake when he paused. He gave her a nervous smile and said, "I'm Albus by the way..."

Lennie put away the cash he'd given her in the register then looked up with a small smile, "Lennie..."

"Lennie...ok..." He said and gave her a warm smile. He rubbed the back of his neck nervously "Are you…umm free sometime this weekend... Maybe?"

Lennie was a bit surprised by Albus' question but smiled widely "Well, I'll be here...working all weekend." She chuckled softly " Do you live around here? We usually get the same customers every day but I don't think I've seen you in town before..."

"I don't stay here, my uncle and his family do though. They have the house with the farms over the hill" Albus replied "But you already know that..." He smirked.

Lennie smiled nodding. "I've only ever seen Mrs. Weasley...but never met her family...You all must have a large family because the last time she was here she bought enough bread to feed an army..." she laughed.

Albus chuckled, "We do have a small army. My uncle and my mother are two of six siblings... Imagine their families."

Lennie giggled and Albus couldn't help but notice how lovely her smile was. He cleared his throat.

"Well I shouldn't have to take this back," Albus said, gesturing to the cake in his arms. "Lennie, right?"

"It is...see you around Albus." Lennie replied smiling brightly, ignoring the somersaults her stomach was doing at the moment. It must have been the cupcakes she'd eaten earlier. Must be.

"I hope so." Albus mumbled then took the box and walked out of the shop, his ears warm with blood. He must have been blushing like crazy. "Lennie…" He smiled.

Albus reached the Weasley house shortly, pushing the door open "Cake's here!" He announced.

Hermione was the first to rush over to Albus as she took the box from his hands "Oh Albus thank you so much...I hope you didn't have any issues finding the shop?"

Albus turned red suddenly remembering the girl from the shop, Lennie. "No, no issues at all Aunt Mione." He said cheekily.

Hermione nodded, smiling before leaving to go put the cake away in the kitchen. Albus turned around when he heard Rose's voice. "No fair! How did you beat me?"

Albus grinned when he noticed she was playing chess with Scorpius on the corner kitchen table, while the rest of the family was mingling in the living room. He knew his cousin had inherited his Uncle Ron's chess skills, so Scorpius winning in a game must have been frustrating for Rosie.

Scorpius looked up at Albus and gave him a smirk knowing what Albus was thinking and just to irritate Rose he said, "Maybe, it's beginner's luck, love."

Rose scoffed, leaning back in her chair as she glared at her boyfriend "Beginner's luck my arse Scorpius Malfoy..." she hissed, looking around to make sure no one had heard her "You and Al play all the bloody time!"

The boys laughed when Albus walked over to them.

"Just admit defeat, dear cousin." Albus teased.

"Never." Rose glared at him " Al, why did you take so long picking up the cake? Mum hasn't let us have any food until you got back."

Albus laughed at that, knowing Rose's affinity for food and how scary she could get when she was hungry. "I had to walk all the way down to the village! Carrying a very heavy cake, I may add." He said but he felt his face warm up thinking about a certain girl who baked said pastry.

"You're blushing!" Rose exclaimed, exchanging glances with Scorpius who was grinning madly as well.

Albus froze and quickly scanned the room. Some of the adults had looked over to see what the commotion was but Albus gave them an awkward thumbs up before whispering.

"Shh!-Shut up, will you? Cut your cake, come on! Lennie worked hard to make it!" He said but clamped his mouth shut as soon as he said that.

"Lennie?" Rose and Scorpius said at the same time, smirking at Albus. "Who's Lennie, Al?" Rose asked teasingly.

"Oi! It doesn't matter who she is... Just cut your cake, Rosiekinns." Albus said, all but running out of the kitchen and escaping to the living room with the other guests.

Rose chuckled at Albus' antics before turning to Scorpius "Think he's hiding something?"

Scorpius grinned at her and nodded. "Absolutely. Care to go investigate tomorrow, Miss. Weasley?"

Rose smiled "Certainly Mr. Malfoy."

They stood up, walking hand in hand to the living room.. After the cake had been cut and dinner was served, the evening pressed on. Rose said goodbye as people began to head home, congratulating her once more. It was nearing midnight and the Potters and Scorpius were the only ones remaining. Ginny and to Rose's amusement, James as well, were helping Hermione tidy up. Rose couldn't help but snicker at her older cousin's disgruntled face when he was told to take out the trash. She was happy that Scorpius was staying with Albus' family for a couple weeks. That meant she'd be able to see him more during summer holiday.

Rose and Scorpius went upstairs while the adults had a cup of tea. They sat out on the balcony connecting to Rose's room and watched Lila hoot madly at the evening sky. Rose smiled at her, involuntary shivering slightly as a soft breeze hit her.

Scorpius hugged Rose from behind, to bring her closer to himself and some warmth, resting his chin on her shoulder. "It is nearly midnight..." He whispered.

Rose nodded and smiled widely at how safe she felt in his arms. "It is...And you haven't tried to kiss me all evening." She said with a grin.

"Trust me, it wasn't easy, love... But you had an entire family of war heroes down there…And I really didn't want to get cursed." Scorpius chuckled.

Rose laughed and glanced down at Scorpius' watch when he took her hand in his "Three minutes till midnight..."

"Hmm…" Scorpius hummed against her shoulder. He slid his hand into the pocket of his suit and pulled out the small velvet box. He held it in front of Rose. "Happy Birthday, beautiful."

Rose gasped softly as she took the box from Scorpius, shifting in his arms so she could look at him.

"Open it." He smiled.

Rose did so, pulling the top of the box open, staring at the gorgeous pendant inside, speechless. "Scorp…it's stunning."

Scorpius grinned "It's also a two-way mirror…" He explained "I saw Matron Black use one once. It's the same as the one Professor Black had to talk to her with... This one is a pendant so that you can call and see me whenever you want."

Rose smiled widely, looking down at the ruby pendant in her hand, "I love it, thank you..." She said, leaning forward and giving Scorpius another kiss. "Help me put it on?" she said moving her hair to one side.

Scorpius nodded, unclasped the chain and gently placed it around Rose's neck. "And for the best part... You can enlarge it and shrink using basic charms... I ... Actually had your mum's help for that" he said scratching his head nervously.

"That is her area of expertise.." Rose said grinning when footsteps approached and Albus peered out to the balcony.

"Ah, there you are! " Albus said looking at Scorpius "I told Uncle Ron you'd be here..." he said smirking when he saw Rose and Scorpius' panicked faces. "Anyways… dad says it's time to go...Uncle Ron might have had a bit too much fire-whisky." He chuckled.

Rose and Scorpius laughed. He turned to her. "I think that's my cue," he said. Scorpius leaned down and gave Rose a peck on the lips then whispered in her ear. "See you tomorrow to go down to the village?"

Rose grinned, glancing over at Albus for a moment before nodding. "Can't wait. I love you."

"I love you too." Scorpius replied with a smile then went over to join Albus.

"You two are adorable...it's disgusting." Albus grumbled, beginning to push Scorpius out of the room.

"You are so jealous... It's adorable" Scorpius countered.

"Boys! It's time to go!" Ginny's voice called from downstairs.

"Yes ma'am!" They both said and shuffled downstairs and into the floo one after the other.

At the Potter residence, Scorpius and Albus were each getting ready for bed when Scorpius called down from the top bunk.

"Hey Al? Got Any plans tomorrow?"

"Hmm?" Albus mumbled already half asleep. But the thought of seeing Lennie again woke him up. He blushed. He had considered going to the bakery as an excuse to see her again but he wondered if perhaps that would be too soon. Or it might come off as desperate. What if she thought he was a creepy bloke? He didn't want to scare her away. Oh and there was of course the tiny little detail that he was also a wizard. Yeah, simple. Nothing to worry about. "Nothing. Go to sleep Scorp."

Scorpius chuckled, laying back down, pulling the covers over himself. "Perfect."
