I was one of the few people to witness Godzilla, and one of the few to survive his rampage. Godzilla literally set my world alight; with his atomic breath, he reduced large chunks of my city to radioactive fire.

So many of my friends have died because of him.

Why?

Why did Godzilla appear?

Was it because of outrage he had emerged from the oceans because of nuclear bombs he emerged? Was he trying to find food? I have heard so many versions of the story over the years, as I was raised by my sister's family in the wake of my parents' deaths. The most common story is that Godzilla is a prehistoric organism, which evolved due to radioactive contamination caused by a mixture of bombs and unregulated waste dumped into the oceans.

I remember the night Godzilla first appeared. I was 5, so I don't really remember the lead-up, it happened so fast. I do vaguely remember how there was panic, but like I've said, it happened so fast I couldn't make sense of anything.

I remember my parents screaming in a crowd of other panic-stricken people, as we tried to get out of our apartment block before I screamed when the massive scaled form of Godzilla loomed above me.

Scales the size of cars studded his body, as they crawled up his clawed feet, up his thighs that were as tall as skyscrapers disappearing high above until they reached his enormous head. And his bellow pierced the ears. Planes were flying around Godzilla's head like a swarm of angry wasps attacking a clumsy, thoughtless idiot who'd blundered into their nest; only this thoughtless idiot had a flamethrower of atomic fire, and he effortlessly burnt down each of the planes before he laid waste to Tokyo.

Somehow I was separated from my parents. I don't know how; when I look back on the moment later on, I think I was separated from them in the crowd, but I was too panicked to remember the details. But I do remember my parents, screaming my name. Only to die when Godzilla, enraged utterly by the fighter jets, blasted in all directions.

Before my adoption by my aunt, I saw Tokyo in the aftermath of Godzilla's attack and rampage.

Now, the city resembles the metropolis, a shining example of hard work and advanced technology that it did before the attack, but during the attack Godzilla effortlessly knocked down the buildings and smashed down the skyscrapers showering the streets of Tokyo with glass which probably killed many more, destroying the railway lines, splitting the rails apart and smashing what was left and grinding the tracks to oblivion. But the atomic breath set the city ablaze, spreading uncontrollable fires that combusted instantly with flammable materials and liquids while melting cars and anything else into piles of radioactive sculptures made from molten metal or glass.

When the monster left, the entire city was decontaminated and made safe. The task took years, and it relied on a lot of help.

I was one of the few people to witness Godzilla's rampage. My aunt made sure I was moved somewhere else, for my own safety. I was not really bothered. I had lost my parents and my friends, and there was nothing recognisable about Tokyo anymore.

Author's Note - My own little continuity for Godzilla, a mix between Shin Godzilla and the original Godzilla. When I watched Godzilla 1985, the scientist in the movie had lost his parents and dedicated his life to science, in the hopes of killing Godzilla, but eventually realised it was pointless. I wanted to focus on a different character, an original character.
