Sitting in the rain was young boy, who looked like he was about three or four, was standing at the bus stop, along with a suitcase, crying. He was suppose to meet someone who would take care of him, but no one came. This boy was Shinji Ikari.
Giving up on waiting for someone to come, he grabbed his suitcase and decided to head into a near by alley to find shelter from the rain. He found a place in the form of a cardboard box. It was small but big enough for a boy his size. He huddled inside and hugged himself to keep warm, while he held himself he could feel his tears coming back.
Suddenly he hear a static noise.
Perking his head up, he looked around for the source of it. There was no one in sight, just Shinji all alone. He noticed an old looking computer on the other side from him. The store behind it, was an electronic shop. It was mostly likely and old, defective model so they threw it out.
Shinji got out of his box and walked towards the old computer. He wondered how such an old piece of hardware could run without being plugged in, much less, in the rain. Once shinji was close enough, a face suddenly appeared on the screen.
"Gah!" Shinji yelled shocked as he backed far away scared.
"Can you hear me?" The person in the computer asked.
Shinji got up and slowly walked back to the computer. "I can... hear you."
"Who are you?"
"S-S-Shinji Ikari" Shinji said scared.
"Why are you crying?" he asked concerned.
The boy looked at the man with sadness in his eyes and spoke to him, choking out, "I-I-I w-was left h-h-here."
"By who?"
"MY DAD!" the boy wailed.
The being in the screen could not believe it. What kind of man would abandon his child? "What about your mother?" He asked. "Where is she?"
"SHE'S DEAD!" the boy cried.
The man looked at Shinji in a state of disbelief. Was it a coincidence or fate? Here was a random child, who could hear his voice and yet despite being left as he was, he could feel a strong heart in the young boy.
"Don't worry, Shinji-kun," the being in the TV said as 4 figures could be seen walking towards shinji. "You're not alone. Whenever, forever."
Shinji wiped his tears and asked, "Who are you?"
"My name is ..."
/ 10 years later/
"Due to the special emergency, all lines are currently unavailable," A voice on the payphone said as the boy holding it hung up.
This boy was Shinji Ikari now much older.
After meeting the strange man in the computer, Shinji was taken in by 4 people, who all told him they were his new friends and later become his new family. Life with them was pretty good as they not only raised Shinji into who he is now, but trained him for an important mission.
A mission only he could do.
Shinji looked at the card he got telling him to go to Tokyo 3. He knew this had something to do the man he once called his 'father'. Attached to the letter was a picture of purple hair woman posing for the camera. Shinji had to admit, not only was she very beautiful and maybe a part of the reason he choice to come at all.
Suddenly a speeding car slammed its breaks and came to a stop next to Shinji. Inside the car was a woman who was wearing a red uniform. Shinji guessed that it was military and most likely from the people who his father ordered around. She had long purple hair and despite the seriousness of the situation, she still had a kind of carefreeness in her eyes.
"Are you Shinji Ikari?" the attractive looking woman inside asked.
"Are you Misato Katsuragi?" he replied.
"Yes," she replied.
"Why aren't you wearing your tank top?" he joked, confirming her question, as she had sent him a picture of her in shorts and a low-cut tank top, as the boy got inside the car. Misato just smirked slightly as she was proud that her photo had managed to catch the young man's attention.
"Mmm?" Shinji notice what seemed to be a blue haired girl the same age as him in a school outfit just down the street.
"What you looking at?" Misato asked the young boy.
"Huh?" Shinji turned to the older woman the back to notice the girl had disappeared. "It was nothing."
Once Shinji was secured, she hit the accelerator and sped off in a hurry towards NERV, all the while Shinji kept his eyes focused forwards. Something about all this still seemed wrong to him. His 'father' suddenly calling him out to meet, an abandon looking city, and looking up he could see fighter planes all going in one direction.
Suddenly, Shinji sensed a something dangerous was about to happen. He turned to his driver and yelled, "Misato, get down!"
"What?" she asked, then she saw it. "N2 MINE!"
She grabbed Shinji and covered his body with her own. However, the angle that Misato had pulled him into had the boy's face buried in her crotch, which he barely noticed as a massive explosion sent the blue car spinning over and over.
When it finally came to a stop on its side Shinji found Misato sprawled out on top of him.
"As much as I like you being on top of me," Shinji said. "You can get off me now."
"Huh? OH!" the older woman shrieked as she climbed off of Shinji and out of the car. "I'm sorry about that!"
"You reek of beer," Shinji said as he got out of the car after her.
"I do?" she grimaced.
"Yeah, so please," he said with a groan.
"Oh, okay," she said, her mood returning to normal. Still, she felt a little apprehensive about smelling of booze. She didn't drink that much, did she? And her uniform was still fresh…sort of. She had picked it up off the ground.
After getting the car back on its wheels, the pair was once again on their way. Of course, they were only able to do that after Misato plundered an auto-parts store for a new battery. She only needed one, but had filled her backseat with more. Her flimsy excuse was that she may need them 'in case of emergency'.
"So, I imagine it's going to be quite a surprise to see your father," Misato said.
"Only so I can punch him in the face," Shinji commented. Those were the last two things in the world he wanted to do to his father.
That, and tell him to go fuck himself.
That actually got a laugh from Misato. She had dealt with Shinji's father many times in the past. She also knew that Shinji had named the least likely things to happen with the stoic man. Just hearing someone talking about him that way was enough to make her laugh.
"So, we're going to see my old man, huh?" he asked.
"Well, yeah. You do know what your father does, don't you?"
"Nothing humanitarian, I bet." Shinji smirked knowing it was true.
"Nothing humanitarian? NERV's purpose is to defeat the Angels, and your father is the head of that organization."
"How?" Shinji cocked an eyebrow. If Gendo Ikari couldn't be bothered to give a damn about his own son, then how the hell did he become the head of an organization that defended humanity?
"Well we have these things called...never mind, you'll see."
The rest of the ride was continued in silence, which Shinji used to think over exactly what it was that his friends had taught him and how he had gotten to be this way.
They were an odd bunch and had their own unique querks but they were Shinji's surrogate family none the less. They supported and looked after each other as best they could. They taught Shinji many things growing up, but the most of all was to fight for the sake of justice. If his father was expecting an obedient tool, he had another thing coming.
He turned and looked out the window.
"Whoa, an actual Geofront," he said, honestly impressed with the size of the underground base.
"Yup," Misato said proudly. "It's our last hope of standing against the Angels."
The tram-ride had been pleasant enough, but the escalator ride was funny to Shinji because Misato was lost. It wasn't that he was sure they passed through this section before. It wasn't even that Misato seemed to be regarding a map several times and checking her surroundings. It was the fact that she was holding it upside-down and still following it was a big tip-off.
"We're lost, aren't we?" he smirked.
"Well, that's what these mobile walkways are for," she said while behind him.
"Nice breeze in this place. Glad I'm not wearing a skirt," he said, ducking to avoid her swinging fist without even.
"How did you..." she asked in confusion.
"Just lucky I guess," he smirked, looking back at the stunned woman as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Uh... right."
The elevator opened up to reveal an attractive blonde woman in a white labcoat and swimsuit. Shinji gawked. She was definitely a scientist, despite her apparent supermodel good looks.
"Is this the Third Child?" Ritsuko asked.
"I'll be your first if you want?" he joked.
Misato laughed while Ritsuko just held a stunned look on her face. This kid was far from what she was expecting of Gendo Ikari's son. Obviously things hadn't gone out as planned in Gendo's scenario concerning his son.
"He's a bit mischievous," Misato chuckled.
"Definitely didn't get that from his father," the blonde said, offhandedly.
"As far as I'm concerned, the only thing I got from him is my hair color," Shinji shrugged. "Speaking of which, how is the walking deadbeat?"
"You mean the commander." Ritsuko corrected.
"If that's what you want to call him. Personally I'd call him an asshole," Shinji managed to keep a straight face, but even she looked ready to crack a smile. "So, I suppose we're going to be given the grand tour of NERV?"
"This way," Ritsuko said.
Shinji and Misato were lead to the Eva cages where Shinji was introduced to the giant purple-colored, horn-headed mecha surrounded by red liquid. His first response was natural.
"It's ugly," he stated.
"Hey!" Ritsuko shouted "I'll have you know that this highly advanced synthetic weapon, built here in secret, is mankind's last line of defense against the Angels."
"And you want me to pilot it," Shinji said.
"Yes." a voice from above said. "Hello, Shinji. It's been awhile,"
Everyone looked up to see Gendo Ikari standing in a large observation booth. His eyes narrowed in a glare. How dare this man call for him when he hadn't gotten a word from him in 10 years?
The room suddenly started shaking.
"The Angel is advancing," another female voice said over the intercom.
"We're moving out," Gendo said.
"Shinji, we need you..." Ritsuko started to say.
"No," the boy interrupted flatly.
"What?" she asked as everyone froze.
"I'm not piloting for you, old man," Shinji said to Gendo. "I don't owe you a damn thing, so you can get in this thing and pilot it yourself."
Gendo just looked at the boy as he continued.
"Unless ... unless you can't! Unless the weapon you built requires someone special to pilot it," Shinji mocked.
"You are not special," Gendo said trying to regain control of the situation.
"Then why was I called back and no one else? Almost like you... " he grinned as he then pointed at the older Ikari. "You need me, more then I need you!"
"Then you agree to pilot."
"Go. Fuck. Yourself." Shinji gave his dad the middle finger.
Misato held her sides with her mouth covered to stop herself from laughing hard as well as the bridge workers laughing with and clapping at Shinji. Ritsuko gasped as she had never seen someone talk to Gendo that way, much less his own son. As for Gendo didn't seem pleased by what he is witnessing. He didn't expected Shinji to be like this.
He turned to his second in command. "Fuyutsuki, wake up Rei,"
"But she's injured," Fuyutsuki protested.
"But she's not dead yet," Gendo replied.
Shinji frowned as he saw a pair of nurses and a doctor wheel an injured young girl out into the cages on a gurney. The same girl Shinji saw on the street. How did she get here so fast and how did she get hurt so badly?
"You bastard!" Shinji shouted as he knew what his dad was planning.
"If you won't, then she will." the older Ikari said confirming.
"Go fight it yourself you sick asshole." Shinji flipped him off again.
Rei tried to get out of bed and do as she was told, but couldn't as she was too hurt. Shinji clinched his fist as watch her. He was losing his will to refuse when suddenly there was a loud crash and shake. Several steel beams came crashing down on top of Rei. Shinji quickly rushed over and covered her body with his hopping to protect her.
*Slash. Wreck. Bang.*
Before any of the beams could his the kids, the beams were cut in half, punched away, or shot away. Standing protectively around Shinji was now 4 figures all wearing the same suit.
Shinji looked at them and smiled, "You guys"
"Are you ... ok, Shinji?" A man with dark hair asked while holding a serrated katana in each hand with 2 more behind him in their sheathes.
"Yeah." Shinji nodded. " Thanks, Calibur."
"Well as long as you ok I guess," The tall one ith blue hair said as he rested his riffle on his shoulder.
"As lazy as ever, Vit."
"Geez you couldn't help, but protect someone else can you?" a orange haired young girl said with her hair tied in twintails while holding a knife in a reverse.
"Portecting other alway comes first, Borr"
"Im glad we got here just in time," the tallest one said with his mouth being covered and his right arm sporting an large guntlet with a spiked ball for a fist.
"I know if I'm ever in trouble, my friends, the NGJHS, will be there for me, Max"
(Neon Genesis Junior High Students - NGJHS)
Shinji scooped Rei into his arms. She looked up at him wondering what he was gonna next. He just patted her on the head and smiled at her as if telling her 'Everthing thing was gonna be alright' He gently placed her back on the bed while still giving her a warm smile.
He turned to his father with and angery look and said, "I'm leaving."
"Shinji, we need ..." Before Ritsuko could finish she found a sword pointed at her head.
"He said... his leaving." Calibur said
"Shinji, lets talk about this." Misato said wanting try and smooth things over. Shinji said nothing as he and his friends said nothing as the walked back to the gates Shinji first came in through.
"Stop him!" Gendo ordered as sect agents ran to try and stop them.
However ...
"Gah! Ouf! Mommy!"
The NGJHS stood in front a pile of sect agents while looking unimpressed. Max was clapping his hand, Calibur as slouched over with his hands in his pockets, Borr had her hands behind her head while tapping the back of her shoe, and Vit was yawning.
"That was it?" Borr asked.
"Yeah. Lets go!" Shinji said as he walked away with them following.
/
Once Shinji and his crew as outside, they made a rub for it. They ran passed all the deserted streets all the way until they made it out of town where they and out of the geofront. There they saw the Angel wiping out the remaining Army forces. Shinji looked to his freinds and nodded to them with them nodding back.
Shinji pulled his sleeve up to show a device on his arm. Max reached into his suit and pulled out a laptop. He opened it up to show shadowy figure, the same one the that saved Shinji all those years ago.
Shinji looked at the laptop with eyes full of determination "Ready partner?"
"Lets do this, Shinji!"
"Access ... Flash!" Shinji yelled as held up his Primal Accepter and used his other arm to activate it. Shinji was suddenly turned into light and was absorbed into the laptop.
/
Rei tried to move EVA 1, but it wouldn't move for her. Gendo fowned more as he watch EVA 1 refusing to move. It was just as he thought, EVA 1 would only move for 1 person and the person had just left.
"Sir you got to come see this!" Maya Ibuki yelled over at her station. Gendo walked down to her and looked over at her screen. What he saw, surprised him greatly and made him very unhappy.
/
Suddenly a digital poral opened, and a figure flew out of it.
The figure was a human like giant wearing white and blue. He stood towering above the army of darkness and the others. He was a being whose body was a bright red with black patches along his thighs and his abdomen, his chest is covered in a silver breast plate with three blue bars in an upside down triangle order, in the center was a red framed yellow light that glowed. His shoulders were red and silver while his forearms were covered in white gauntlets, his legs likewise covered in white boots that extended up over his knees.
Finally the being had a silver helmet that resembled that of a knight/gladiator to an extent with a ride along the back portion of the head, a blue colored light in the center of it's forehead and bright yellow eyes.
The giant landed on the ground as softly as he could before the ground gave out due to his extreme weight. He took a fighting stance and stared the Angel down, ready to battle.
/
"It's an Ultraman!" Kozo Fuyutsuki yelled.
"A what?" Shigeru Aoba asked looking confused as was everyone else in the command center.
"An Ultraman," Fuyutsuki said, "I remembered during my childhood my grandfather told me stories of the Ultramen. They come from a race from space called 'Ultra'. They come to Earth and defended it against aliens and monsters."
/
The giant ran at Sachiel while the Angel roared.
The two of them lunged at each other with Sachiel thrusting he claws at his head. The armored Ultra lifted his leg to try to kick the Angel before it's claws could reach him. However before his kick could land, the Angle shot a lance like weapon from it's forearm. The Ultraman leaned his body as much as he could to avoid it, but his shoulder was struck by the spear and send him flying back and hitting a near by building. Just before he flew away, he continued his kick as best he could. Hitting the Angel in the chest, sending it flying back as well.
He suddenly hear something that sounded like a child crying. He looked around and saw a little girl whose leg was under a big chunk of cement. Carefully, he removed the rubble and gently scooped the girl into his arms. The girl was scared at first, but she could feel the warm light radiating off of the Ultra, which soothed her.
The Ultraman looked around carefully to see if there any rescue teams around to take the girl. He needed to get the girl to safety, because he didn't know when the Angel would get back up again. He was always taught that protecting innocent life came before fighting against evil.
"Hitomi! Hitomi!, where are you!?"a voice shouted. "Please answer me!"
The giant turned to see the source of the voice. A boy, about the age of his human form, wearing a black track suit. The boy stopped at the sight of the Ultra, looking scared.
He bent down on one knee, and put his hand that had the little girl out towards the boy.
"Big brother!" the girl cried happily as she tried to reach out for him.
Her leg was her so the boy scoopted her up from the Ultra's giant hand. The boy cried tears of joy seeing his sister was alive. She was hurt, but she was alive.
"Thank you!" The boy yelled smiling looking up at the Ultra. "Thank you so much for saving my little sister!"
The giant nodded in response. The boy continued to look on with his sister, however, his smile turned into a face of panic. The Ultra noticed this, and turn to see the Angel right behind him!
The Angel swiped at him with its claw, knocking the Ultra into a building. He turned to see where the boy and his sister went, but was glad at what he saw. They were being carried away by his friends. The boy and his sister where being carried on Max's shoulder while Calibur, Borr, and Vit were beside Max. Keeping any sort of falling rubble away from them
The Ultra was relieved that they were safe, however now he was the one being attacked. Sachiel grabbed him by his neck and squeezed it tight. While it head him pinned, the angle used it's free arm to strike the Ultra's head repeatedly.
/
Max had put the kids gently down while Calibur Opened Shinji's laptop. The rest of the team gather round the laptop. On the screen showed the Ultra's stats and life signs.
"Gridman?" The boy read peeking at the screen. Seeing the Ultra's name displayed. "That's his name?"
"Too strong!" A voice from the computer said. "I need to find a way to win!"
"Is that Gridman?" the boy asked before Borr kicked him in the shins.
"Not now you idiot!" Borr yelled before looking back at her friends. "Anything?"
"Nothing... that I can see." Calibur said looking at the screen.
"It must have a weakness," Max said.
"There's got to be something we can do," Vet said.
"What about it's core?" The boy said as this got the NGJHS to look at him. "The core ... on it's chest?" He explained pointing at his own chest.
The NGJHS looked up at the Angel's chest and saw the big red orb. "AHHH!" They all yelled before Calibur began typing on the keyboard to tell him about the weakness.
Once the Angel was satisfied, it lifted Gridman off the ground still hold onto his neck. Using it's other arm, Sachiel reeled it's spear weapon as far as it could. Ready to impale the Ultra through the head. The girl saw her savior about to be killed, she got up as best she could. Even though her leg was hurt, she limped as best she could to get closer to the battle.
"Hitomi!" The jock yelled as he ran over to her to stop her from getting hurt.
Hitomi took a deep breathe and yelled as loud as she could, "GRIDMAN! DON'T LOSE!"
/
"...I hear you," Gridman said as his hand twitched.
Before Sachiel could unleash it's attack, Gridman grabbed onto it's wrist that was holding Gridman's neck. Gridman's grip become so strong, Sachiel let go of Gridman's neck before pulling away and backed away as far as it could.
/
"I can hear you," They all heard from the laptop. Hitomi smiled brightly once she heard that he hear her. Suddenly all of Gridman's stats started to increase. "Don't worry. I won't lose!"
Gridman's gem started to glow green as he stood up strong. As the light on his chest glowed bright as power flowed through his body. Gridman got into his fighting stance and was ready for round 2.
/
"Fuyutsuki!" Gendo yelled clearly even more upset. So far, nothing was going by his design or senario. He didn't like it when things didn't go as he wanted them to go. "What going on!"
"There are some Ultra who gets stronger by hearing the wishing of others. Our belief in them become their power!" Fuyutsuki explained as he got up from his chair and yelled, "Ultraman, Fight!"
"Kick his ass, Ultraman!" Misato yelled getting out of her seat.
Aoba suddenly got up from his chair too and yelled, "You can do it man!"
"Please win," Maya said as she held her hand together in a prayer.
/
Gridman ran quickly at Sachiel with the intent to end him. Wanting to keep Gridman at a distance, Sachiel shot a beam from it face at Gridman. However, Gridman would not let that stop him as he thrusted his right fist foward and punched the beam causing a large explosion.
Gridman leaped out of the explosion and grabbed onto Sachiel's right arm. Raising his right knee, and driving the elbow downwards at the same time. Gridman attacked the arm between his two limbs, and drives the elbow down with great force, effectively shattering the bone. Breaking Sachiel's arm clean off.
Sachiel cried out in pain as Gridman tossed the now separate limb aside. Not giving the Angel any time, he rushed in and delivered 2 hard uppercuts to Sachiel's core. This lifted Sachiel body in the air a bit as Gridman gave a hard straight punch to the core and sent Sachiel flying back.
/
"Amazing," Maya said as she watched to screen.
"Go, Ultraman!" Fuyutsuki cheered as soon everyone at Nerv started to cheer with him.
Everyone, but one unhappy commander
/
"Grid..." Gridman said as he gathered his energy up before firing a beam fired from the back of the Gran Acceptor on his left arm, "...Beam!"
The large beam hit the Angel with such force, not only was it's core destroyed, but it's both was completely reduced his body to ashes.
/
"Yes! He won!" The jock yelled as he spun himself while holding his little sister in the air.
"Big Brother, he won!" Hitomi cheered as well.
The brother looked over to where the NGJHS were, only to see they were gone. He looked around, but there was no sign of them. He looked down at his sister, who looked just as confused as him. Shrugging his shoulders, he turned and went looking for his family while holding her hand.
/
Near the city rim, the NGJHS stood with the laptop open. Suddenly a light flew out of the small computer and Shinji appeared out of the light.
"There'll be more ... Angels" Calibur said.
"Let them come!" Borr said cockily. "We'll just kick their asses!"
"Looks like we'll be staying here a while," Vit sighed.
"What do you think, Shinji?" Max asked his young friend.
Shinji and Gridman looked at each other and nodded. "We're gonna have to find somewhere to live first."
/ OMAKE
Misato sighed as she forced herself to get up from her bed. Yesterday was the first battle with the Angels. What was supposed to be Nerv's grand debut to show the world that Nerv had what it took to take on the Angels became the debut for something else instead.
The Ultraman
Gendo being unhappy was an understatement. He tried to have the giant warrior chased down and destroyed, but that wasn't gonna happen. 00 was still being repaired, 01 was not better then a giant paper weight without Shinji, and the giant disappeared through a portal once the fight was over.
She didnt see what the problem was. As long as the Angels were defeated, that was all that mattered to her. She got up and sighed as she looked around her messy apartment. She got up and grabbed some of the trash bags and was about to throw them away.
Just as she opened the door, the door to her next door neigbor opened as well. Stepping out was Shinji holding a trash bag while sighing to himself.
"Ah?" Shinji and misato said at the same time as the looked at eachother.
"EHH?"
