Jealousy

Petalburg City, Hoenn. 31st May 2023, 12:08pm.

"Happy Birthday!"

"Happy B-day"

"Happy Birthday, May!"

May Maple stood on a table, flapping her arms around, as she tried to get her balance right. She breathed a sigh of relief, as the table stopped moving. Put her arms down, she yelled, "Thanks everyone, for coming to my party!" then she winked. "and don't forget to have fun!"

Everyone cheered as she tried to get down from the table. Suddenly a pair of strong arms grabbed her waist, and lifted her in the air, only to put her feet down on the ground.

May turned around. "DREW!" she squealed, wrapping her arms around the now, blushing boy. She pulled back, though still stayed in his arms. "I thought you weren't gonna come?" she asked.

Drew rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

"Well, I… realized I couldn't miss it." he said, trying to cover up his embarrassment with a flick of his grassy hair. Unfortunately for him, May saw right through his façade. "Aww..does Drew care about me?" She teased.

Drew turned his face away from her, now a bright shade of red. May giggled. She opened her mouth to say something, though didn't get the chance to, as someone covered her eyes.

"Guess who?" A voice asked.

May whipped around, still in Drew's arms. "Brenden?" she called breathlessly.

"Ding, Ding, Ding." he grinned, though it didn't reach his eyes, seeing that she was in Drew's arms.

Drew narrowed his eyes on Brendan. Was he her boyfriend? Why didn't he know about this? He thought, as he let May go, as she latched onto Brendan.

Gritting his teeth he tried, and failed to hide his scowl while she was hugging Brendan.

Brendan, who just happened to be facing Drew in the embrace, smirked, mentally patting himself on the back for getting May's attention away from Drew.

"So," Drew said through clenched teeth. "Who's this?" he asked, trying to keep his cool façade. "Yeah, May. Who's this dude?" Brendan said as he smirked tauntingly at Drew, over the fact that May was still in his arms.

May, though, for some reason, felt incredibly uncomfortable in his arms. They're not as comfortable as Drew's. She thought wistfully, while wiggling herself away from Brendan's hold, as she went to stand beside Drew, who was now smirking back at Brendan.

"Oh yeah!" May said, sensing the tension between the two boys. "Drew," she turned to him, motioning her right arm towards Brendan. "This is Brendan Birch, he is a researcher for Professor Birch as well as his son. He's also my childhood friend, who I haven't seen in a while. " she told Drew. Drew inwardly breathed a sigh of relief. So he wasn't her boyfriend after all.

"And this," she turned to Brendan, while motioning to Drew with her left hand, "is Drew, my really good friend, and rival!" she said, smiling at Drew. "He also won the Kanto Grand Festival, and was a runner up for the Hoenn Grand Festival when he was still just eleven years old!" She breathed, as if she still couldn't believe it, six years later.

Brendan saw the twinkle in her eyes as she talked about Drew, as well as the loving look Drew gave her, but Brendan was not one to give up so easily. Brendan glared at Drew. He wasn't going to give up. Not even if she's married to this thing. he thought bitterly, as he excused himself to go use the restroom.

Petalburg City, Hoenn. 28th August 2023, 2:18pm.

"Okay, I'm all set!" May said excitedly under her breath. Max peeked inside his sister's room. "May are you done yet?" he asked. May turned towards him with an excited smile. "Yup!" Max ran downstairs to tell his parents and May's driver.

May grabbed her bags as she ran downstairs, putting on a cardigan as it is quite cold in Larousse City. Thats right! May was going to visit Drew, in Larousse City! He had invited her over for a couple of days as a concert was being held there, that he thought she would really like. Of course, she immediately agreed. A concert and spending time with Drew? It was a no-brainer in May's opinion. And though she would never admit it out loud, but May knows she is in love with Drew. His beautiful eyes, his grassy green hair, his picture perfect smirk, his-

"Hey May."

May stared in horror. "B-Brendan?!" she squeaked. "What're you doing here?" Brendan grinned, not noticing how her face was horror stricken as he explained. "Well, I'm your driver to Larousse City!" he exclaimed cheerfully.

Yay.. May thought sarcastically. She had a bad feeling about this, though she didn't have time to change the driver now. She put on a fake smile as she handed Brendan a bag. "Okay then, let's go!"

To tell you the truth, May didn't really hate Brendan, she just felt uncomfortable with him. It was no secret to her that he had feelings for her, which she sadly didn't reciprocate.

"So, why're you going to Larousse?" Brendan asked, trying to start a conversation. May twiddled her fingers nervously, trying to delay the answer as much as possible. "Oh, you know, just going to visit a friend…" she trailed off, hoping that he'd leave it there. Unfortunately for her, he didn't. "Oh. Must be a great friend to have you all excited like that." he teased slightly. May sighed dreamily. "He is."

"He?"

May mentally kicked herself. How could she let this slip? She nodded slowly. "Do I know him?" Brendan asked, glaring at the road. May looked down. "Yeah…" Brendan stopped at a red light and looked at her seriously. "Who is it?" "Drew…"

Brendan shot up, hitting his head on the ceiling of the car, while May turned away to stifle a laugh. "DREW?!" he yelled incredulously. "Why're you visiting him?!" Brendan asked, tightening his grip on the wheel as he took a right turn. "Well… we're going to a nice restaurant to eat, then tonight we're going to a Pokéband Concert, then we're going to have a movie night, and then tomorrow, we're going to a super cute entirely automated breakfast house, and then-" Brendan covered her mouth as the they stopped in a parking lot in front of a park, which May realized was the Larousse City Public Park. Just the place she and Drew would meet! She grabbed Brendan's hand and forced it away from her.

"What do you think you're doing?" she demanded, scowling, while still holding his hand a reasonable distance from her. "Shh…" he shushed her. "Grasshead's here." May gasped loudly, trying to grasp Drew's attention. "DREW! OVER HERE!" Drew turned around to face the car with a smile, before he scowled and glared at it, walking over to the car and opening May's door.

"Thanks Drew." she said getting on her tiptoes to kiss him on the cheek, so that Brendan gets the hint that they want to be alone. Sadly though, he didn't. An hour later, Brendan was driving back to Petalburg with a black eye, but not before leaving May's stuff on the ground and kicking each bag at least once.

"Did he hurt you?" Drew asked, concerned. May shook her head and hugged him. "Thanks," she whispered. "No problem." A red faced Drew answered. May pulled back, as they both put their arms behind their backs. May stared at Drew as he stared back.

Slowly, both of them started leaning in, ever so slowly. Both of them closed their eyes, savouring each other's taste as their lips met in a soft kiss. May put her hands on his chest as he snaked his arms around her waist. They both pulled back after a moment, with pink faces.

"I love you," Drew confessed, as May's eyes lit up with the uttermost delight.

"Really?" she uttered in disbelief. Drew chuckled slightly. "Really."

May squealed as she wrapped her arms around the green haired teen, repeating four words over and over again.

"I love you too."
