When the Stargate on Atlantis activated and the request for the group known as the Protectors to come thru was received, Elizabeth Weir was surprised. The group hadn't been seen since the Wraith attack on Atlantis. What could bring them back out here? The Wraith were nearly gone. As far she knew, there shouldn't be any reason for them to be coming here.
As soon as Xander stepped thru the Stargate he called out to Elizabeth. "Dr. Weir, please call AG 1. We have a priority order from the President to discuss with you."
Oh God, a priority order. That meant something bad. Elizabeth quickly tapped her earpiece and requested AG 1's presence in her office, immediately. It didn't take long for them to arrive.
"Elizabeth, what is going on? I'm working on something important. I don't have time for this." McKay grumbled.
"Make time, McKay. This is a priority order from the President." Xander told him.
"You already have Level One Clearance from the last time we were here. That's still in effect. First, a little background. You probably remember that a little over a year ago the Quantum Mirror was activated. An eight year child came thru. He was mine and Cordelia's son from another reality. We were able to get him safely back. While there, we exchanged information. Our Jack O'Neill and their Jack O'Neill did so as well. Yesterday, my counterpart came thru. He was given permission from their President to give us a heads up on something that happened recently in their reality, in case it was also here. While visiting Atlantis to use their stronger gene to help the expedition get into some places they'd been having trouble accessing, they discovered two facilities with tanks full of dimensional invaders. Some escaped while they were there and they destroyed them. But it was what was in the databases that is scary. The rifts were created on purpose. It was an attempt to create a new means of travel. They managed to beat back what came out of the rifts and sealed them. They've weakened, that's why we've got the problem that we have. But the potentially bigger problem is that they created a rift here in Pegasus. Whether it was simply to catch these creatures, which it seems they intended to unleash on the Wraith. Or they opened it before then and accidentally let in some things. Possibly including the araitis bugs. We are to determine if these facilities exist here, along with the rift, as well as determine if there are more. We're also to determine if the araitis bugs came from another dimension. Our heightened senses mean we can detect differences between something from this dimension or another. Even after thousands of years in our dimension, they still retain some pocket of their original reality. It's why physics sometimes behaves differently around them. AG 1 is to assist us."
"We already thought the Ancients were responsible for the Wraith somehow, but we thought ii was because they left humans on a planet with araitis bugs. But that never really made sense. I mean, wouldn't they have done a survey of a world before hand to make sure it was safe? They should have catalogued any creatures capable of merging its DNA the way araitis bugs can." McKay said.
"Willow's going to go thru Atlantis' own database, looking for any information on the rifts and all the different kinds we've documented on Earth, as well as determine if they knew of more kinds. She'll also check to see how the Ancients originally sealed the rifts, in the hopes that we can seal the ones we know about. Besides blowing them up, I mean, fun as that can be."
"We'll start with the rift. Some of the things that come out of there are smart, after all, they have their own languages and cultures. They may be able to figure out how to work the 'gate. Just because they haven't yet, doesn't mean it isn't possible."
"It's nearly the end of the day here, so let's schedule your departure for tomorrow morning. You have Stargate addresses?" Elizabeth asked.
"Yes. The one with the rift is on a terraformed moon . Which is suspicious in and of itself. Why terraform a place if you're not going to live there? But if you're doing research that is potentially dangerous to humans, that would make sense. As much as any of this makes sense, I mean."
"Also, do the araitis bugs have a Homeworld?"
"Not that we're aware of. They appear on far too many worlds to know which they originally were on." Teyla told him.
"Willow, add trying to trace the Ancients information on the araitis bugs. It's possible they knew the original world. It may well have a rift if it's own.
"My list is growing." She joked. "Don't worry, I'll find what there is to find."
"I have no doubt. You could probably make the computer dance. There's very little a computer can do that you're not exceptional at."
"Jesse, go check in with Dr. Beckett. He also has Level One Clearance from last time. Fill him in."
Jesse nodded and headed off to the infirmary.
"I'll arrange for quarters to be prepared for you. It'll take a little while." Sheppard said.
"That's okay. Teal'C told us about you, Ronan. A little sparring session should help pass the time."
"Sheppard mentioned your first visit. You fought velociraptors. He showed me the Jurassic Park movie. This'll be fun."
"That reminds me. My counterpart took their Jesse with them to Atlantis and he made some discoveries of his own. More maintenance tunnels, an art gallery, a shielded chem lab and the fact that the entire south tower is a park. With four giant sequoias that have been growing since before the Ancients left and tended to by maintenance 'bots."
The Atlantis people were staring at him like he'd grown a second head.
