Chapter 22
Dizzy Spells and Mothers
"It's bloody cold here! I thought it would nice in October!" Diesel hissed as he held tightly to Carlos and Stephanie's hand as they walked beside Heidi, "We should have gone south!"
"Oh tosh, you're the one that wanted to go to the U.K.," Heidi reminded the man, turning to look at him, "Besides, we're only here for three days, you'll be fine!"
"Yeah, well let's find a restaurant and slip into it for Afternoon tea," Diesel whined, making Carlos and Stephanie giggle, "It's freezing!"
The couple decided that their family vacation wouldn't be a long one, a few days at the most. Their Fall break was only a week long, and there were things to do at home that were important, like celebrating Stephanie's birthday! The first day in the U.K. they went to London and did all the sight seeing and enjoyed what the city had to offer them. It was a busy first day, with lots of pictures, souvenirs and traveling. The kids were having a blast and it put Heidi's and Diesel's mind at ease that the children were enjoying themselves.
"Let's go get Daddy inside of a warm place so he can stop-" Heidi started but paused as the sides of her vision began to fade to black. She reached out to Diesel to steady herself and then swallowed hard and said, "Sorry, I think I'm-" her vision swam and she let out a whimper as she swayed.
"Steady there," Diesel said to the woman, grabbing her by the waist and then was leading her into a restaurant, "Come on, sit down, I'll get you something to drink."
"Sorry," Heidi said as she closed her eyes, leaning back in the chair, "Stephanie, Carlos, are you fine?"
"Yeah, we're okay, Mommy, are you okay?" Stephanie's question had Heidi smiling and looking at her, "Are you dying?"
"No, I'm not dying, sweetie, I may have pushed myself a little too hard today, I skipped lunch maybe I just need to rest for a bit." Heidi said to the girl, as Diesel placed an order for them all, "Just a little dizzy."
"Well, I ordered Afternoon tea for us, relax," Diesel said, placing a hand on Heidi's shoulder and squeezing it.
Heidi accepted the glass of water and sipped it, as her vision stopped swimming and her dizzy spell went away. She had been having dizzy spells for days. They had been fast ones, barely noticeable but this dizzy spell had been a bad one. She almost fainted. What was going on with her?
Heidi enjoyed the sounds of Stephanie and Carlos talking softly to one another, giggling as they did. She leaned into Diesel's fingers, the ones that were rubbing her neck slowly and she sighed, a smile on her face. That felt good, so nice, Heidi began to purr as Diesel pressed against her neck gently.
"So tense," Diesel said softly, as he massaged her neck, "We're going back to the bed and breakfast, after our tea, and you're going to lay down, the kiddos and I will stick close, and enjoy some of the local things."
"Hmm, okay," Heidi whispered as she leaned against Diesel, "I think I could use a nap."
They enjoyed their Afternoon tea, with Stephanie and Heidi fighting for the last chocolate torte (they split it in half,) before heading back to the Bed and Breakfast they were staying in for the second night. Heidi took a four hour nap (she must have been more tired than she thought she was!) before the rest of her family came back and they went out for dinner.
Their last day was spent exploring the countryside. Stephanie and Carlos were delighted to pet and feed the sheep and cows, and they had a blast when they went horseback riding. Diesel joined the kids for that activity, Heidi hung back, wary of the tall animals. It amused Diesel to see Heidi's hackles rise at the sight of the horse but it was even more amusing to see her gravitate to the farm cats that seemed to appear close to the woman, staring at her with interest.
It did have him thinking about the dream he had of Heidi with those ears and tail. Was Heidi really a cat person?
"Tch you are missing out on the good stuff, cod is far better than canned tuna!" Heidi was saying to the cats, scratching their ears, "Diesel, Carlos, Stephanie, are you finished, great, let's get out of here."
"Were you talking to the cats?" Diesel asked Heidi, who laughed and walked over to the children, "She was definitely talking to the cats…"
Their first family vacation was a hit! They would definitely be going on another vacation soon. They didn't know where, but maybe during their winter vacation, they would go to the Alps. They arrived back home at a late time. Diesel ushered the sleepy children up to their bedrooms, got them in their pajamas and tucked in. When he came back downstairs, Heidi was in the living room, on the couch, her eyes closed and she was nursing a cup of hot chocolate, with another cup waiting for him.
"It's nice going on vacations," Diesel said, sitting beside Heidi and pulling her into his arms, "But this is nicer," he kissed her temple and took his cup of hot chocolate.
"Mhmm," Heidi agreed and sighed, turning the TV on and flipping to some cheesy show, "This is wonderful, Diesel."
They were silent for a moment, enjoying one another for a moment before Heidi set down her cup and grabbed Diesel's empty cup and set it down on the side table and leaned up and kissed the man on the lips asking, "Diesel, what would happen if the children never became adults again?"
"I don't know," Diesel shrugged his shoulders, looking down at Heidi, who rested her chin on his chest, "We'd keep them, right? They're tied to our gifts, if we separate them from us, they would die."
Heidi ran her fingers over the man's chest and whispered, "We'd never give them back, would we? What about Trix and Vix? Do you think they can really stay there, playing pretend? For the next several years?"
Diesel squeezed Heidi's arm and looked at the woman, a frown on his face as he thought about it, "No…I don't think they can play pretend for the next several years, Heidi, we might have to do memory wipes to everyone in Trenton."
Heidi looked at the man and said, "I'm sure there's a space in the budget for a memory wipe, we'll make space," she turned her head and looked at the TV screen, "That might mean the mission would end, in a sense, and that might mean you have to go back out in the field."
"That's fine, I'll work quicker, knowing that I have a family waiting for me to get home," Diesel said, looking at the TV, before he said, almost hesitant, "Heidi, if that's the case, if they can't go back to normal, if they're really here to stay with us, do you want to get married for realsies?"
Heidi turned her head and looked at the man, though his posture was relaxed and his eyes on the TV, he was nervous, about what she would say to him. Heidi smiled softly and said, "Yeah, I would love to marry you, Diesel."
Diesel turned to Heidi and gave her a goofy grin and then Heidi sat up and kissed him on the lips, "What if, I want to marry you now, Heidi?" he asked the woman, who blinked, looking at him, "How about we get married now?"
Hedi smiled at him and whispered, "I love you, Diesel, let's get married, I want to marry you!"
"Fuck yeah, I get to marry my wife!" Diesel chuckled, pulling Heidi into his arms to kiss her deeply, "Mmm, I love you baby, Kitten, I love you so much. We really will be a family, after this!"
They made their way upstairs to the bedroom and once on the bed, they made love, several times that night, declaring their love for one another. As Heidi slept, she dreamt vividly.
"Momma, are you really leaving?" Heidi had been 23, when her mother declared to her that it was time for her to go home, her home, "You're going home?"
"Yes," A woman, with the same brown skin as her daughter, with the same amber eyes, walked over to the sullen looking young woman before her, her child, her dear Heidi, "My darling Heidi, it is time for me to return home, you are ready for me to step back, to let you find your way in this world."
"But, why? Can't you stay here, with Daddy and I?" Heidi asked, as the woman before her pulled her close, running a hand down her curls, "you don't have to go home! Please, don't leave me!"
"My little cat," her mother whispered, lifting her head up and smiling down at her, "I truly never will be gone from you, I will always be with you, in your heart and your dreams. If you need me, you can always reach out to me, to call for me, and I will come."
Her mother kissed her forehead as Heidi whimpered and cried. She looked down at Heidi and said, "Heidi, sometimes, a mother has to let go of their child, to let them find their place in the world. A mother has to let their child grow up, but…a mother is never far from her child."
Heidi let out a whimper and shook her head, "I don't want to grow up, if that means you are gone, Momma!"
Her mother laughed and then said, "No, you will be fine, I know it, you are my child ,you carry the blood of my family, of powerful women, who for generations and generations before us, let their daughters go to see them become such powerful women."
Heidi let out a sigh and then she looked to her mother and asked, "If I call, you will come, promise?"
"I promise," Her mother said, hugging Heidi to her once more, "Open your hand, my little cat," Heidi sniffled and then opened her hand, "I have been holding on to this. It's time I give it to you."
Heidi's mother placed a glittering stone in her hand and said, "This belongs to you, Power Stone number 6, Heidi, you have grown, so much, so has your family, and it's still growing. You are a mother now, and as a mother, sometimes, sacrifices will have to be made, for our children to thrive, remember that."
Heidi looked down at the stone and up at her mother, frowning as she saw cat ears that were silky black and a thin, silky looking tail was lazily waving behind her back, "Momma?" She now noticed that she wasn't a 23 year old woman now, she was her present age, with the other stones resting against her collarbone, vibrating oddly.
"I'm always here for you, my little cat," Heidi's mother gave her a smile and then kissed her head one last time, "But now, it's time for you to wake up."
Heidi opened her eyes, dazed and confused. She was laying in her bed, beside Diesel, who was snoring peacefully beside her, one of his arms wrapped around her shoulder. Heidi moved her hand, which held something in it and opened it, to reveal the Power Stone that Heidi's mother had given her, in her sleep. Heidi bought the stone up to her necklace and let it fuse to the silver chain. Six stones now, she had six of them, she didn't know where the 7th one was but, she had the majority of them, Wulf would have to go through Diesel and her to get to them.
Heidi thought about the dream, of her mother and the cat ears and tail. Strange….Heidi was going to dwell on it more but damn did her bladder call out for her to empty! Heidi got up from the bed and rushed into the bathroom to pee. She did her business and was brushing her teeth, when she heard Diesel moving around in the bedroom. Heidi turned, her toothbrush still in her mouth and walked out the ensuite, "Mdaffdsfdf…." She mumbled and Diesel turned to her, looking at the stones on her chest.
"Got a sixth stone? Cool," Diesel said as Heidi nodded her head, "Now, there's only one stone out there, I wonder what happens when we have all of them?"
"That's a good question," Heidi hummed as she finished brushing her teeth, "Who knows, but as long as Wulf doesn't get them, we'll be fine."
Diesel kissed Heidi's head and then pushed her out the bathroom, saying, "I'll get breakfast started when I'm done!"
Heidi let out a yawn and then sat on the bed, thinking about the dream she had, of her mother. Her mother, she had cat ears and a tail…just like Heidi did, in a few of her dreams. Heidi frowned and leaned forward, her hands wrapping around the stones, why did she have a tail and ears? How did she know about her family, and honestly, what did she mean by her family growing?
Heidi huffed and thought about the one person who could maybe shed some light on all of this, about her mother. She didn't want to talk to her Daddy, she was still upset with him, for taking her badge and talking down on her. She was pissed at him for threatening to take her children, but…he knew her mother better than she did, and he would answer her, if he wanted to have a better relationship with her.
Heidi took out her phone and sent a text to her father, demanding to speak to him later. She would go have lunch with him today, to figure out what was going on in her life.
Afterwards, she made her way downstairs to get the coffee going, but the moment she opened the can of beans, the strong scent from them had her stomach rolling and she was quickly tossing the can into the trash, gagging. She covered her mouth and nose, trying to control the gagging she was dealing with before she glared at the trash can and then to Diesel, when the man walked downstairs into the kitchen.
"The coffee beans have gone bad, trying to poison me, Diesel?" She glared at the man who balked in shocked and gave her a glare back.
"Woman, I bought those the day before we left for England!" Diesel said, folding his arms, looking at Heidi, before going over to the trash can and taking the coffee can out of it, "Geez, I like this roast," He opened the lid and sniffed, saying, "Heidi, they don't smell stale, nor are the beans moldy, it's fine."
"Well, I don't think they're fine, you use them, then, get sick, I don't care," Heidi turned her nose away from the can, her stomach still rolling, "Did we get any mint tea? Ugh, my stomach…"
"Your stomach," Diesel echoed and then began to take things out for breakfast, "Are you getting sick?"
"No, it was just the coffee beans," Heidi said, as she placed a kettle on the stove, "I think I'm going to stick with mint tea and toast for breakfast."
Diesel clucked his tongue and started cracking eggs. Heidi sighed as she took out bread to toast, "I'm going to see my Daddy today for lunch, I have a few questions for him," she turned to Diesel, as she grabbed the butter from the fridge, "Will you be fine with Carlos and Stephanie today?"
"Yeah, everything alright?" Diesel asked Heidi, watching her nod her head, "Okay, yeah, we'll be fine."
"Good," Heidi walked over to Diesel, standing on her tippy toes to kiss Diesel's cheek, "So tall, annoying…"
The kids came tumbling into the kitchen, climbing on the bench and Heidi made a hasty retreat out of the kitchen, with her tea and toast, when the smell of coffee had her stomach rebelling. That damn expired coffee was trying to kill her! Heidi spent the rest of the morning, going over the things Stephanie wanted at her party and then left the house, with a pop, going to the Agency. She knocked on her father's office door and entered it, when he made a noise.
William Evanston gave Heidi a look as she walked up to the table where he had lunch waiting for her. She slammed her hands on the surface of the table and said, leaning forward, "Tell me what you know about my mother, Daddy. She came to me, in a dream, with cat ears and a tail, I feel like I'm missing something here…"
William looked at his daughter, closed his eyes and sighed, "There's a lot you don't know about your mother, Heidi, please, sit, we'll be here for a while…"
TBC….
Dizzy spells and nausea and sensitivity to smells? Sounds like the flu...
