Nami headed for the harbour on the Waver, as she got closer she noticed that there were a few boats tied up on the dock. She smiled in relief, if there were boats then she could use one of them to get back to Cocoyasi Village. However when she did get into the harbour Nami was very disappointed to find all the boats were ether sunk or in such bad shape that they would be impossible to sail in.
Nami let out a disappointed sigh; once she docked she pulled the Waver up onto the dock and walked alongside it. She did not wish to part with it for two reasons 1. It carried the big bag of gold she had stolen from the Pirate Ship and 2. She could use it to get away if she needed.
Nami walked up the hill towards the Islands village, it was a relatively small village surrounded by hills and all the houses and shops were in small hills. As Nami walked through she could not help but notice how quiet it was.
"This is odd...it's too quiet," Nami said to herself.
She stopped in the centre of town near a fountain and a bench and looked around but did not see any sign of life.
"Where is everyone?" Nami wondered "This place is like a ghost town,"
Suddenly she heard a bird squawk and Nami looked up to see the post bird drop the daily newspapers, there were at least fifty of them in a bundle.
"Oh the newspaper delivery," Nami said "Maybe I should get one,"
However before she could all of the doors in the village opened up at once and the whole village ran out. Nami freaked out as she thought she had done something wrong but it turned out that they were just making a mad dash for the newspapers that had just been delivered. Nami watched stunned as she saw people claw and beat each other for the paper. After a moment of complete frenzy the villagers went back into their homes and the doors slammed shut. Nami was left standing alone in the square again.
"W...W...WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS ISLAND!" Nami screamed.
"Oi miss...is everything alright?" a young voice suddenly asked.
Nami turned around to see a boy standing there; he looked about the same age as Connor if not slightly older. He had droopy eyes, lavender-coloured hair with a yellow hat with teal stripes going through it. He wore a dark purple cape and a purple shirt with the sleeves partially rolled up, short light-brown pants and dark-brown boots.
He was also holding what looked to be a large sea horse with a bright orange body with red stars all over and round blue eyes.
"Hi I'm Drim," The boy introduced "what's your name miss?"
"Uh Nami...hey do you know what's wrong with everyone and why they were all fighting over those newspapers?" Nami asked.
"Oh that...they have no memory," Drim claimed.
"They...don't?" Nami asked.
Drim shook his head.
"They don't remember anything, not their names, who their families are, their jobs, life skills...nothing," Drim claimed.
"Nothing...at all?"
"Nope, they don't even remember what they did yesterday" Drim said "there memories vanish during the night so they always wake up without them,"
"Oh...do you know what caused that memory loss?" Nami asked.
"Sorry but this island's had this problem for a while now...it started five years ago," Drim claimed.
"I see...didn't somebody notice or try to find out what caused it?" Nami asked.
"Sure...but then they forgot about the investigation and before you know it they had forgotten everything," Drim explained.
"I see...hey if everyone here forgets everything at night...why do you know all about it?" Nami asked suspiciously.
"I suffer from Chronic Insomniac," Drim claimed.
"Insomniac?" Nami asked confused.
"It's a sickness that makes it hard for me to sleep," Drim explained "I only sleep during the day and stay awake all night,"
"This Insomniac...dose it because you any pain?" Nami asked concerned.
"No and it's not fatal either. It just makes my sleeping schedule a little different than everyone's else's," Drim claimed "I was actually on my way home to bed when I saw you,"
"I see...so because you don't sleep at night," Nami started.
"I keep my memories and know what's going on," Drim finished "It's funny really, my Insomniac used to be a burden but it actually saved me from whatever is taking everyone's memories,"
"You wouldn't happen to know if there are any ships on this Island would you?" Nami asked.
"There are boats down at the docks," Drim stated.
"I know I saw, but they're not sea worthy," Nami claimed.
"Hmm...well that's probably because no one remembers how to maintain them," Drim said.
"True...you sure there aren't any more boats...what about the other side of the Island?" Nami asked.
"This is the only village on the Island, the other side has a dense forest and ruins...you can go and have a look but you won't find anything there," Drim said.
"Are you sure?" Nami asked.
"Yep, if you don't believe me have a look for yourself. This Islands very small so it won't take you long to get there," Drim advised "stay and take your time...you might find you like this place,"
"I can't, I have to get home...my islands in trouble and there are people depending on me," Nami said.
An evil and unsatisfied look appeared on Drim's face for and the seahorse blue eyes started to glow red. Nami took a step back but found she could not look away from the red eyes, she slowly started to feel weak and faint; despite the fact that all of her instincts were screaming for her to get away from this boy Nami's body would not obey and the longer he looked into the red eyes the harder it became to stay focused.
After thirty seconds Nami fell to her knees in a trance like state. The boy smiled and approached her so he was standing right in front of her and Nami didn't react in any way. She just stared blankly at the boy in front of her.
"You want to stay on this Island at the inn," Drim said in serious no nonsense tone.
"I...I...I want to stay on this Island at the inn," Nami repeated in a monotone voice.
"You will stay tonight to think about your situation," Drim continued.
"I will stay tonight to think over my situation," she repeated.
"You will not leave your room at the Inn or look for a way off this Island until tomorrow," Drim said.
"I will not leave my room at the Inn or look for a way off this Island until tomorrow," Nami repeated.
Drim smiled and he snapped his fingers, the red glow faded from the seahorses' eyes and Nami swayed a bit before she blinked a few times and looked back at the boy.
"Huh...what just happened?" Nami asked.
"You just fainted. Are you alright?" Drim asked.
"Yes...I'm fine," Nami claimed "just a bit dizzy,"
"That's the Inn over there," Drim said and pointed to one of the larger buildings "Since you can't exactly leave the Island you can get a room there to rest in until you're feeling better and decide what to do,"
"That sounds like a good idea," Nami agreed as she looked at the Inn. After all she had nowhere to stay.
"Right I'm going home, I'm tired and if I don't wake up before dark I may lose my memories too," Drim said "Bye miss, I'll see you around,"
"Yeah...thanks," Nami said.
She watched the boy run off and Nami turned towards the Inn.
"Right I had better go and check in," she said and walked towards the inn.
Going Merry Kitchen
Back at the ship Robin and Connor had spent the day telling the remaining Straw Hats about the crew's adventures on the high seas. Luffy was really into them while Sanji and Usopp questioned on how the crew had survived and were left wondering if what they had been told was more fiction than fact due to the impossible situations.
Chopper had at first been hesitant to join them claiming he could not sit at the same table as humans but the promise of both food and more information eventually won him over and he listened into the stories that Connor and Robin told.
Connor had provided the information from before the events in Alabasta and Robin had filled the rest.
"Man I wish I could remember all that," Luffy said.
"Did we really do all that?" Chopper asked.
Both Connor and Robin nodded in confirmation.
"Still...it's hard to believe we went through all that," Sanji said.
"Yeah an Island in the sky and fighting God...sounds unbelievably dangerous," Usopp agreed.
"It was, we almost all died," Robin claimed with a straight face "and that's before the Island was about to be consumed by a giant ball of Lighting,"
"You know you're really morbid," Usopp said flatly.
"If we had the ships log we could prove it...but I think Nami took it when she left," Connor claimed.
He had gone to retrieve the Merrys Logbook earlier to prove what both he and Robin we're saying was true but he couldn't find it. Robin had a look and she couldn't find it either so they both assumed Nami had it as she had been in the cabin earlier and run off with the waver and the gold.
"So...do you remember anything now?" Connor asked hopefully.
"No, I defiantly don't remember fighting any gods or crossing any deserts," Usopp claimed.
"Me either," Sanji said.
"I wish I did, those adventures sound like lots of fun," Luffy whined.
"Sorry...I don't recall anything either," Chopper stated.
"Oh," Connor said sadly.
He was very upset about this whole situation and he looked down unsure what to do.
"What do you remember then?" Robin asked.
"What do you mean?" Usopp asked.
"Before waking up on this ship, what's the last thing you remember?" Robin clarified.
"Well I was going to bed after cleaning up from the dinner rush on the Bartie," Sanji claimed "It had been a busy day,"
"I just got back from picking fresh herbs to make medicine out of, I put them out to dry and went to sleep just after," Chopper said.
"I went to bed after having dinner," Usopp claimed "Like I do every night,"
"I was on my boat and got sucked into a whirlpool," Luffy said.
"A whirlpool?" Connor asked.
"Yeah I can't swim due to my Devil Fruit so i hid in a barrel and just kind of dozed off," Luffy smiled.
"You dozed off...in a barley while being sucked into a whirlpool," Usopp repeated.
"Yeah, those barrels are comfier than look," Luffy claimed.
'Well he hasn't changed that much,' Connor thought.
"Hmm...nothing in common other than going to bed," Robin said.
"Well we knew they lost their memories while they were sleeping," Connor pointed out.
"That's something that's been bothering me," Sanji said "If what you said is true and we are all friends and have been traveling together...why didn't the two of you lose your memories?"
"Hey yeah that's a good point," Usopp agreed.
"We were both awake," Connor claimed.
"Indeed, I didn't go to bed and Connor here often wakes up at night due to nightmares," Robin claimed.
"It's true, I only get two maybe three hours sleep a night," Connor agreed.
"Perhaps...perhaps we didn't lose our memories...perhaps they were stolen," Chopper suddenly said.
"Is that possible?" Luffy asked.
"Well...medically speaking a normal cause of memory loss comes from a blow to the head, some form of injury or even shock," Chopper claimed "Not being able to remember being in accident or something that happens really fast that leads to an injury is normal as the brain is usually focusing on survival instincts,"
"Don't older people lose their memory regularly too?" Luffy asked.
"Yes but I'm ruling that out because none of you are that old," Chopper claimed "and your nowhere near the age to get those memory affecting sickness that comes with old age,"
"But you don't just forget a portion of your life by going to sleep and none of you were injured in anyway," Robin stated.
"Right...so if we weren't injured or anything like that...then the only logical conclusion is that someone took our memories from us," Chopper agreed.
Connor looked up Robin.
"Do you think there is a Devil Fruit like that?" Connor asked.
"Not to my knowledge but I don't think a Fruit user did this, if they did they would have to get on the ship and Zoro was on watch last night," Robin said.
"He lost his memories too, doesn't that mean he sleeping?" Sanji asked.
"Yeah but even when he's sleeping he's still really alert to his surroundings," Connor claimed.
"Come on, a devil fruit that steals people's memories...that's absurd," Usopp claimed.
"Well we've seen a lot of impossible things here on the Grand Line...I suppose someone or something stealing memories would not be the weirdest thing that's happened," Connor reminded him.
"Umm this might be irrelevant but last night I had a strange dream," Chopper said "there was this kid with a sea house like horn,"
"And it made a weird sound," Usopp finished.
Suddenly the two looked at each other in surprise.
"Wait...you had that dream too?" Sanji asked.
"I had that dream as well...we're dream sharing," Luffy claimed.
"You all had the same dream?" Robin asked.
The four amnesic pirates nodded.
She then looked at Connor.
"You were on deck for a bit last night...did you see and strange kids with flutes?" Robin asked.
Connor shook his head.
"No and I was only on deck for a few seconds," Connor claimed "When going from the means quarters to the kitchen, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary during that time,"
"Do you think this kid with the flute took our memories last night?" Usopp asked.
"I believe so, after all you all have the same dream and the next morning you all have no memory...it's too much of a coincidence,"
"But if that is the case then why not just take all our memories?" Sanji asked "why not just take it all,"
"Maybe whoever took them, couldn't take all of your memories at once," Robin theorised "maybe there is only so much they could take,"
"And because of all the adventures we've been on...it must have been too much," Connor agreed.
"But doesn't that mean that they will come back?" Usopp asked.
"That is a very high possibility...it could be a case that the next time you go to sleep you will wake up with no memory at all," Robin said gravely.
After talking for so long and realising that they may lose more of their memories, the crew started to come up with countermeasures to prevent that or try to restore their already lost memory. Chopper started to work on some medicines to boost brain and memory functions while Usopp made name tags with everyone's roles on it.
However no one liked what Usopp had written so they were quickly thrown overboard. As night approached Sanji went into the kitchen to prepare dinner, Connor followed him and explained that he helped the cook prepare dinner. But since Sanji did not remember or know what Connor had learned he told the boy he didn't have to help until they had a better understanding of the situation.
After dinner the crew decided that they were going to stay awake all night in the kitchen and not fall asleep tonight as a way to protect themselves. Unfortunately this proved to be easier said than done as Luffy and Chopper quickly fell asleep in and despite his best efforts Sanji dozed off too.
The only ones who didn't fall asleep was Robin and Connor….well Connor had tried to but like the previous night every time he did start to doze off his Brand would send a jolt of pain through his body to wake him back up again.
Now that Connor knew about someone stealing everyone's memories he was not as concerned about his Brand acting up as he was before; Connor came to the conclusion that it was just the Brands way of protecting him from outside influences.
So while the others slept Connor sat with Robin quietly trying to read one of the kids books by himself, he wasn't worried about the crew waking up as they were sound asleep. The night went on and close to midnight both Robin and Connor herd what sounded like a horn.
The instantly stood up and ran out the door and Robin picked up already lit lantern she had prepared earlier as she ran. It was fairly dark and difficult to see so Connor activated his sight and scanned the ship and the area. There on the Merry's figure head was two glowing auras, a white one surrounded came from Drim while a red one came from the sea horse horn.
"There on the figure head," Connor declared and pointed to the front of the Merry.
Robin focused on the Merry's figure head and pulled up the lantern and she saw the boy in the darkness.
"Oh…you weren't all asleep," Drim said "That's not nice,"
"You're the one that stole our crew's memories," Robin said.
"So what if I am? You can't do anything about it…look," Drim claimed.
Robin and Connor looked back into the kitchen and saw that Chopper, Luffy and Sanji were all starting
"I'm stealing their memories as we speak," the boy smiled.
"Wake up," Robin yelled. She used her power to summon three arms and they violently started to slap the sleeping crew until they woke up.
"Ow…what was that for?" Usopp moaned.
"That's an interesting power you have, but it's rude to interrupt some else's dinner," Drim said.
"AGHHH THAT'S THE KID FROM OUR DREAMS!" Chopper, Sanji and Usopp all yelled out.
"Huh what's going on…Is it breakfast already?" Luffy asked as he was still half asleep.
Luffy then noticed Drim and where he was standing.
"HEY YOU….GET OFF THERE!" Luffy yelled in rage.
"Uh…Luffy what are you…" Connor started.
"THAT'S MY SPECIAL SPOT….OR AT LEAST I WAS TOLD IT WAS MINE!" Luffy cried.
"WHY IS THAT WHAT HE'S FOCCOSING ON!" Usopp cried.
Luffy stretched his arm out and grabbed the Merry's figure head and lunched himself at the intruder for stealing his seat. Drim however kicked the hand off and Luffy crashed into the base on the figure head. He flipped over and
The second the Sea Horse Horn hit the figure head it released some blue smoke. Luffy picked himself up and was about to scold Drim but was engulfed in the smoke before he could.
"What's going on?" Luffy panicked.
"Shit," Drim hissed, he pushed Luffy of the figure head onto the deck, grabbed his horn and dove into the sea.
The crew ran over and Luffy was still surrounded by the blue smoke.
"What is this stuff?" Usopp asked.
"I don't know but we should get a doctor just encase," Chopper claimed worriedly.
"That's you," Robin pointed out.
"Oh right," Chopper realised.
Sanji walked over and bent down next to Connor.
"Hey…was that normal behaviour for him?" the cook asked "to attack someone for being on the figurehead?"
"Yeah it is," Connor nodded in confirmation.
"And you're sure he's the Captain?" Usopp asked.
"He is," Robin confirmed.
"Why do we follow him again?" Chopper asked.
Suddenly Luffy shot up and he looked around the ship, a big grin appeared on his face.
"I remember…I got my memories back," Luffy declared happily.
