Hi, everyone! Life has been so crazy. I haven't even had time to breathe until now. I am so sorry about how long it takes to update, but I am doing my best. I've been having a lot of health issues that have been kicking my butt, so I sleep a lot when I'm not working. I promise I am doing my best to update. On to recent events about the pandemic surrounding the world. Even though you may not be at risk, please think of those you know that are. If you can work from home and stay there most of the time, do so. The only way to beat this pandemic is to slow the infection rate and that's done by isolating yourself from others. Please be smart during these times and don't panic. Shout-out to Catgoddess92 for following my story. Let's continue, shall we?

Jumpy

I hadn't left my room since yesterday and I was still laying in my bed when a knock sounded on my door. Flopping my head to the side, I stared at Bella as she entered slowly, "Hey, Kat, I made some pasta for lunch and thought you'd want to come down and eat since you missed breakfast," I just turned my head back to stare at the ceiling and she sighed, "Come on, Kat. I get that you're scared and worried, but you can't just lock yourself away. Now come down and eat or I'll get Edward to carry you downstairs."

Glaring at her, "You wouldn't dare." She just raised an eyebrow in challenge as she folded her arms across her chest and I groaned cause she wasn't going to back down, "Fine, let me shower really quick and dress. Then I'll come eat. Happy?"

She grinned triumphantly and trounced her way back downstairs as I groaned again. I stared up at the ceiling for another moment before forcing myself to stand. I grabbed black yoga capris and a purple tank before I headed to the bathroom to shower. It didn't take long and I just threw my hair up in a messy bun as I walked down the stairs. Edward greeted me as I entered the kitchen and I smiled back at him, but it wasn't a happy or relaxed smile.

Bella plopped a large bowl of spaghetti in front of me as I sat before she put a plate beside the bowl with two pieces of garlic bread, "Eat it all or I'll tell Mia that you aren't eating."

I glared and picked up the fork as I retorted, "That's just plain abuse and cruelty. Can't believe you'd just throw me under the bus like that with her."

My cousin shrugged and sat down with her own servings to eat. It was basically silent until someone knocked at the front door and Edward quickly went to open it. I waved at Mia as I continued to chew what was in my mouth and she sat beside me, "Long time no see, guys."

I rolled my eyes at my guardian, "What took you so long? You came with me and could've formed whenever."

"I had to wait till today as your uncle would have been suspicious if I turned up so late and so soon after your dad's call. I would have formed earlier, but I've been out patrolling. Prime put Jazz in charge of figuring out who is related to the Olivers, so I was doing some recon for him."

Nodding in understanding, I finished my last bite of garlic bread before turning to Bella and snarking, "Can I go now?"

Used to my snark, she just rolled her eyes and waved me off. I washed my dishes quickly before realizing I needed to go explain things to La Push still, "Mia, you up for a ride?"

She agreed and I went upstairs to grab my helmet and thigh bag that held my gun and my taser. Her holoform was gone by the time I made it back down and I waved to Bella as I threw on my black leather jacket. Mia's alt form took off as soon as my helmet was on and we basically flew towards La Push. Hopefully they understand everything and don't push me away.

Shaking my head, I physically forced those thoughts out of my head. I was part of the pack and there's no way they'd get rid of me, right? It didn't take long for us to reach Uley's house and I could hear all the wolves inside talking, but I hesitated in taking my helmet off. I took a deep breath and summoned my courage from Mission City before setting my helmet on the seat and holding my head high as I walked to the door. Uley opened the door with a smile, "Hey, Kat. It's good to see you."

His smile fell at the serious look on my face, "Hey, good to see you all too. Can I come in? I need to talk to everyone and explain some things."

His face darkened and he nodded as he moved aside to let me in. Various greetings were shouted at me as the pack grinned at seeing me. However, they all became more serious when Uley spoke up, "Pack meeting. Kat needs to talk to all of us."

I claimed a spot on the arm of the sofa as the boys sprawled out around me. Some pulled in kitchen chairs while others sat on the floor. Uley was leaning against the wall and I could see him out of the corner of my eye. Waiting until they were all comfortable, I took a deep breath before beginning, "Please, let me get through everything before you ask any questions or judge me or anything," everyone nodded and many fidgeted slightly at how serious I was, "This all began in my sophomore year."

And my tale was told.

It was silent after I finished explaining everything that had happened. I couldn't bring myself to look at anyone, so I stared at my hands as I fiddled with the hem of my shirt. Someone crouched in front of me and a sun hot hand gently lifted my chin up. My eyes had all walls down as I stared into the dark eyes of Uley. I was focusing intently on him while trying to find any trace of disgust, hatred, anger, anything that would show I needed to leave. However, there was nothing in his eyes. All I could find was clear understanding and protection.

He smiled once he knew he had my full attention, "Sororis, none of us are going to abandon you. We'll be there with you as long as you need us and we will protect you. You have my word on that. We'll increase patrols near your house with two wolves on each patrol. Also, we should work on your communication with us because that'll help us alert easier if something were to happen. We none blame you for anything that has happened and we don't think any less of you, okay?"

My eyes roamed from his to meet the other eyes of the pack and they all held the same unspoken promise, even Leah had a fierce look in her eyes. I felt my lips twitch into a smile as I nodded. Everyone grinned back and we chatted about details for a little bit before I needed to head back to my uncle's house. Mia was obviously pleased by how my conversation went and she was definitely smug that she had proven to me that it was going to be okay. Bella wasn't downstairs when I got back, but I could hear murmuring from her room. She must be up there with Edward and I could only snicker at my uncle's response if he caught them together in her room.

I grabbed a glass from the cupboard and filled it with water as Mia lounged on a kitchen chair. I started to take a sip when a thud landed above my head. The glass dropped from my hand as my hand instantly went for my gun in my thigh bag. My guardian leaped into a fighting stance the second my body tensed in preparation of fight or flight. Mia relaxed slightly as she called up the stairs, "Bella, Edward, what happened?"

My cousin's voice helped my muscles relax as the panic left me, "We're okay! Just dropped my book. You guys okay? Sounded like something broke."

I could feel Mia's gaze on me as I shakily started cleaning up the glass and water, "Fine. Kat just dropped a glass."

My guardian crouched beside me to help clean it all up, but she first stopped me by gently grabbing my shaking hand. I slowly moved my eyes to meet with her electric eyes as she gave me a relaxing smile meant to ease my nerves. It somewhat worked as I was able to give a slight grimace combined with a smile. We continued on in silence until it was all cleaned up before she finally spoke, "Come on, time to train."

Witholding a groan, I followed her outside. My feet dragged the whole way because I knew she wouldn't go easy on me. Not that she really had before, but it was going to even be harder than normal with all the threats on my life. It is one thing to know you are in danger from giant aliens and it is another thing entirely to know you are in danger from humans that will stop at nothing to silence you. We went through a series of stretches before settling into our fighting positions. She gave off an air of casualness, but I knew her well enough to feel the predatory grace surrounding her.

Letting her take the first move is dangerous because she'll command the fight. But if I race in without a plan, she'll easily destroy me. I suppressed a sigh before charging at her with my right fist pulled back to punch towards her face. She went in for a block, so I quickly changed and spun on my right leg to hit her with my left. Mia's hasty block was enough to stop my kick while stumbling slightly.

I backed off a foot or two to watch her next move because I knew she was done defending. And, unfortunately, I was correct in that assumption. Mia instantly closed the gap between us with fists and kicks flying a hair faster than I could easily keep up with. I was now on the defensive and I could feel the sweat constantly dripping down me now. My breaths were coming in short gasps as she finally backed off to give me a moment. However, she rushed forward when my quivering left leg finally gave out on me and I harshly landed on the grass.

Mia gently straightened my leg out as a black wolf came running at us, Kat! Are you okay?

Smiling to Uley, I waved a hand dismissively before grimacing when my guardian probed my weak muscle spot. She must have realized I wasn't hurt and it was just too much too fast for my leg. Helping me up, my arm was thrown around her shoulder before she helped me limp upstairs to shower. The hot water eased the soreness I could feel forming and I couldn't stop the smile from forming on my face because I was able to hold my own against her for about the same amount of time as usual.

I threw on pajamas and tied my hair back as I made my way to my room. Stopping in surprise, I stared at Mia laying on a twin-size cot that was definitely not in my room earlier. She grinned at the confusion on my face with a laugh, "It's to help my cover. Your uncle would find it weird if I didn't have something to sleep on if I'm guarding you all the time."

Understanding lit my face up and I grinned back before falling into my bed. We were both silent as we stared at the ceiling in the darkness, "Hey, Mia," she hummed in acknowledgement, :Does it ever bug you that you're having to play bodyguard for me all the time and staying away from your sparkmate for so long?"

Silence met my question. I worried I had overstepped a boundary and opened my mouth to apologize, but she finally spoke after a few awkward seconds, "Bug me? Absolutely not. Ironhide and have been in a war far longer than you have been alive. We know how to handle long separations, Kat. Don't ever worry about that or blame yourself for keeping us apart. We knew what we were signing up for when we each became guardians. There will be hard days when we miss each other, but we are on the same planet this time and we can communicate whenever we want or need to. Get some sleep, sweetspark. Good night."

"Good night, Mia."
