Happy First Day of Spring Everyone!
Chapter 2: Missing
D'Artagnan was irritable as he made his way to the Garrison. He had a restless night. His wolf instincts told him that something was wrong. Very wrong. His wolf wanted to come out and it sensed something was wrong with his Brothers. They had gone on a mission a week ago while he was already on a mission. He hadn't been too happy when Treville told him.
But Treville assured him it was just delivering some papers.
D'Artagnan believed that wasn't the whole truth.
So, as he walked into the Garrison, he felt something was off and his hearing picked up chatter from the Musketeers around him.
"How do you think he is going to take it?" one says.
"Who could take the Inseparables on?"
"How can they just go missing?"
"Do you think they are dead?"
"What do you think happened to them?"
"We better disappear so we are not in the way of when D'Artagnan finds out…"
"Would their mission have been…"
D'Artagnan's face goes blank as he hears the chatter and he could hear the nervous heartbeats of those near him. He could smell the tension and fear of those around him. He saw his comrades not being able to look him in the eye.
"D'Artagnan! My office!" Treville calls from the balcony.
D'Artagnan's eyes narrow at him and he knew Treville could already tell that he knew something. D'Artagnan takes the stairs two at a time. He needed the details on what happened to his Brothers.
He stalked into Treville's office and shuts the door.
"What happened to my Brothers?" he growls to his Captain.
Treville looked at the young man…no young werewolf and knew if he didn't divulge the details, he might end up with the claws of a werewolf in him. But he had to remember how young the Gascon had been when he was bitten and that meant that the Gascon was an experienced adult werewolf.
He sighs, "I am sure you have heard that your Brothers are missing?"
"Yes", he grounds out, "What haven't you told me about their mission?"
"They were sent to deliver a package to a ship bound for England on behalf of the King. I have no details of what the package contained. I didn't believe it of much importance. The King didn't make it out to be. But now I believe there is something more to this", Treville tells him honestly, "I have tried to get information out of the King but he is remaining tight lipped. But he did say he wants the package found and his Musketeers"
Treville saw something in D'Artagnan's eyes.
"You knew something was wrong", Treville states in realisation.
D'Artagnan nods his eyes flicking amber, "My wolf sensed something was wrong. So, I didn't sleep last night. I should have listened to my wolf!" he growls angry at himself.
"Don't blame yourself D'Artagnan. No one knew this was going to happen", Treville says trying to comfort the wolf.
"Did they even make it to port?" D'Artagnan asks him changing the subject.
"No. They went missing someone between here and there. I sent out two Musketeers. But they can't find trace of them past a sight that looks like an attack had taken place. They found four bodies. None being your Brothers. But there is no concentre proof that, that attack was on them", Treville tells him.
Treville winces at seeing amber in the Werewolf's eyes. The amber eyes that were associated with an angry werewolf.
"Permission to leave immediately. Alone. Sir?" D'Artagnan asks barely managing to keep his wolf side in check.
"D'Artagnan for you to find them I believe you're going to have to probably use your wolf side to find them. If this package is so important there is no telling how many you'll be up against. And I don't believe even your enhanced human traits could take them on. But a…wolf can", Treville advises him.
D'Artagnan had already thought of that. He knew if there was no physical trace of his Brothers near that ambush sight then the only way to know if it was them and to track them would be by him turning wolf.
"I already thought of that Sir. I know I'll have to go wolf most of the way. But if I can help it, I'll be human when I find them. I don't know if I am truly ready for them to find out", D'Artagnan admits.
"You might have to be ready son. Have faith in your Brothers to accept who you are", Treville tells him softly.
"I can tell you one thing Sir, whoever did this is not going to like meeting that side of me. I believe if I smell their blood then my wolf will go on a rampage. As it already acknowledges them as my Pack", D'Artagnan warns him, "I can feel the wolf inside of me stirring with anger"
Treville nods gravely he already guessed that. He knew Werewolves were VERY Protective of their Packs. And he knew besides D'Artagnan feeling they were his Pack. He also considered them his Brothers.
"Do what you must. I give you permission. As you'll know what is best better then I. But be careful D'Artagnan there is no telling what you're going to run into in your search for them", Treville warns.
"I know. But it should be the attackers who should be scared. As an enraged werewolf is not one you want to meet", D'Artagnan replies his eyes glowing amber.
Then D'Artagnan storms out.
Treville was left wondering what kind of condition his best men would return in and if D'Artagnan's Brothers were dead then he was sure D'Artagnan would be lost to them as he would be trapped in his grief and half or madder in grief.
"Got speed D'Artagnan may God bless your hunt"
