After Dean all but dragged Sam into the shower, he settled back down into his seat at the table beside Castiel, having promised Sam they wouldn't do anything until he returned smelling less like sewer.
Buffy paced up and down in front of Dean and Castiel, muttering to herself about time travel and wondering what her friends were doing if they even noticed she was gone.
"Can I ask you a question?" Dean's voice snapped Buffy out of her thoughts, drawing her attention from staring at the floor to him eyeing her. She gave a curt nod of her head.
"You said you were a slayer, someone destined to kill the 'forces of darkness'... What is a slayer exactly?" Dean questioned watching Buffy move to sit across from him and Castiel.
"Basically one girl chosen to fight evil, keep the world safe and avoid the occasional apocalypse every now and then," Buffy answered nonchalantly, brushing a stray hair from her shoulder.
"Right... And how come we've never heard of you? I mean, my brother and I are hunters, we know all kinds of supernatural things exist..."
"But a slayer, l don't even think our dad's journal mentions anything about a girl destined to, presumably, save all of humanity," Dean sounded genuinely perplexed.
"It's supposed to be a big secret, only my Watcher and the council are supposed to know I exist..."
"But I have a few close friends, some with their own abilities that know and help me," Buffy responded, getting a faraway look in her eyes.
She could only imagine what Willow, Xander and Giles were doing right now, hopefully burying themselves in research to bring her back home, back to her own time.
"I get the whole secrecy deal, most of the people we save don't know that all this stuff exists..." Dean offered Buffy a sincere and reassuring smile.
-_-
Sam returned to the table moments later, devoid of sewer stench and wearing clean clothes, his usually unruly hair even more so after he toweled it dry.
"Buffy here was explaining to us what a slayer is, and why we've never heard of her, supposed to be a real Clark Kent type of girl..." Dean announced as Sam joined them around the table.
"Makes sense, we try not to tell too many people we're hunters... You seem to do a better job at keeping the secret identity though," Sam chuckled turning his head to glance at Buffy.
"Now, let's find out how to get you back to where you belong so you continue the fight against evil," Sam added with a smile.
"Right, well... The last thing I remember was doing inventory in the Magic Box for Giles, and I touched this odd looking pendant..." Buffy began, looking between Sam, Dean and Castiel.
"Next thing I know, I'm here with you two waving guns at me..." she continued, raising an eyebrow at the brothers. Castiel turned a concerned look onto Dean, who put his hands up defensively.
"Okay, so maybe the pendant was cursed or perhaps some kind of key to jumping through time?" Sam suggested looking at everyone around the table.
"If it worked like a key, wouldn't it have come here with her?" Dean questioned as he gestured towards Buffy. Buffy patted her pant pockets, frowning when she didn't feel anything.
"Do you happen to remember what it looked like? Could you sketch it?" Sam asked turning to face to Buffy. He slid a notepad across the table towards her when she nodded.
Dean, Sam and Castiel watched intently as Buffy sketched a rough drawing of the pendant. It was oval shaped with a frame around what seemed to be a jewel on a necklace.
"Great, thanks..." Sam smiled when Buffy slid the sketch back to him. Sam studied it closely.
"I think I've seen this before," he announced glancing up at Dean and Castiel.
"Where?" Dean, Castiel and Buffy said in unison all looking up at Sam. Sam chuckled. "In storage... There was this old jewelry box, labeled 'do not touch'," Sam answered with a laugh.
-_-
"You and Sam remind me of my friends, rushing to save the day... Even if the thing that can help might be a bad idea," Buffy commented, digging through a box of artifacts.
"Yeah, we seem to have a habit of doing that..." Dean laughed beside Buffy, rummaging through boxes on a shelf above her.
Sam and Castiel were on the opposite end of the storage room rifling through boxes of files.
They'd been searching the storage room for over an hour and still hadn't come across the jewelry box Sam mentioned.
"Dude, are you sure it's in here?" Dean huffed, chucking aside another empty box. That was the fifth one he had come across, it was starting to concern him how many there were.
"Yes... Maybe..." Sam responded with a sigh. He was now standing in a pile of papers and folders scattered around his feet.
"Maybe it got moved... Isn't there another storage room in this place?" Dean questioned as he turned away to look at Sam and Castiel.
"Could it possibly be locked up in that safe?" Buffy spoke standing to her feet, gesturing towards the far wall behind Castiel.
Sam, Dean and Castiel all turned and looked at where Buffy was pointing, seeing a safe sitting on the floor in the corner of the room.
"I'll be pissed if it isn't," Dean remarked catching his brother's eyes. Sam responded with a half smirk.
