Xenyis: Hi, thanks for reviewing the story. I mean, of course I had to give you a shout out last time, that was literally the first follow and favourite I have ever received, and I'll admit that I may have screamed a bit when I saw it. No, I can't call you crazy for taking so long to make an account, because I basically did the exact same thing. I can relate to that one, sometimes there are just so many things going on in life that it can feel stressful to actually make an account. Oh yeah, I understand wanting to take time with your FanFiction debut. For myself, I had this story in my head for basically as long as I've been reading FanFiction, and it took a long time to finally figure the whole thing out so I could start writing it. On the topic of this story, I'm glad your enjoying it, and I'm especially happy to hear that you don't think that it would feel out of place in the actual Mario universe, as that is a feeling that I'm trying really hard to make sure I get right. Buckle-Berry and Ala-Gold, you say? Those are certainly interesting ones. Anyway, thank you again for your review, and good luck on your own fanfics!

Nataly Guardado: Oh yeah, it's super reasonable for Luigi to wonder this. Not only is it a legitimate question even in the real world, but I thought that with Luigi's job being to fight these people, he would think about it even more.

So, unfortunately I have wisdom teeth surgery next week, and with the recovery I'm not going to be able to write all that much, but I'm going to try to at least get the next chapter out before then.

Now, on with Chapter Three!

Chapter 3: Trio Vs. Trio

Mario, Luigi, and Peach walked along the serene and calm Meringue Clouds(1). Thanks to the large rainbows that had opened up do to some secret passages(2), the journey had been extremely fast, taking less than an hour to complete the trip across. Once they got through the Clouds, they would be on their way down to Rock Candy Mines. There they would take a few shortcuts, and then a few turnoffs to some areas that were absolutely not included in the game, and then they would arrive at the town that had been attacked.

The Brothers and the Princess had just made it out of the Land of Flying Blocks(3), the final large area they needed to pass through. All they had left was a short walk across some regular old clouds, and then they would reach the peak of Rock Candy Mines where they could begin their descent. The trip seemed to be going pretty smoothly, but unbeknownst to them, the trio of enemies that had followed them from Peach's Castle had continued to tail them all the way to this point, and now sat huddled in a small cluster of clouds just behind where the heroes were walking.

"Blah, I hope I never have to see that whole 'Land of Flying Blocks' thing again" the goomba grumbled.

"Quiet" the fuzzy wiggler ordered. "I need to figure out a plan of attack."

"What's there to figure out, Harry?" The Koopa asked. "I though we would just go over there and walk into them, like we always do."

"Once again your ignorance astounds me, Lucy" Harry, the wiggler, snapped. "This isn't some average Mario vs. Bowser adventure. This is serious business! And as such, I believe that are tactics could use a little more effort."

"Harry, aren't we technically still working for one of Bowser's kids?" The goomba asked. "Doesn't that make this kind the same thing?"

Harry sighed. "Gordon, Lucy, please stop questioning me while I'm trying to think. Just, wait for me to yell attack, and then we go."

Meanwhile, the Mario Brothers and the Princess were continuing to make their way towards the edge of Meringue Clouds, and all things considered were having a pretty good time. The adventure was going smoothly, and even Luigi had been enjoying himself thus far.

The peaceful mood was ruined quit suddenly though, when Harry screamed "ATTACK!"

Having given up on coming up with an effective plan, or at least on coming up with one that he could possibly get Gordon and Lucy to listen to, Harry had decided to opt for the classics: run up to your rivals, and punch them until they drop. The Heroes turned as the trio of enemies charged towards them. Harry arrived at the front of the pack and tackled Mario to the ground.

"Great, who are these guys now" Luigi yelped.

Mario punched Harry and quickly threw him off, just as the other enemies began to strike. The heroes all got into defensive positions.

Lucy ran up to Luigi and tackled him, sending the two of them into a messy brawl on the ground. Gordon tried to do the same to Peach, but he was, well, a goomba, and peach easily deflected the blow. Pulling out her umbrella, she whacked him like he was golf ball, sending him flying. Meanwhile, Harry had regained his balance and once again went after Mario, running as Mario jumped and attempted to land on him.

Back with Luigi and Lucy, they continued to roll around on the ground. Luigi winced in pain as felt the koopa's hand smack at his face, and returned the blows with his own hits. Finally, Lucy was roughly pulled off of Luigi by Peach, who had run over to help. Lucy kicked backwards into Peach's stomach, causing the Princess to double over and lose her grip on the Koopa. Luigi let to his feet, and as Lucy turned back to face him, he ran over and performed his signature jump on her head, knocking her into her shell. Peach kicked her, and she went flying, knocking over Gordon, who was struggling to return to the battle.

At the other end of the small brawl, Mario and Harry were ferociously battling it out. Mario, seeing an opening in Harry's movements, leapt into the air and came crashing down onto Harry's head, causing the Harry to turn blue and stumble around. Mario landed, then channeled his inner power and threw two fire balls(4) at the wiggler. Harry managed to duck under them both, and once gain charged at Mario, who in turn, one again dodged the blow.

Harry is obviously the strongest one here Mario thought, stealing a glance and Peach and Luigi's battle with Gordon and Lucy. We need to take him out first.

Peach was once again swinging her umbrella at Lucy, when she saw Mario waving his arms to single her. She hopped over Lucy, knocking her over in the process, and ran towards where Mario was fighting Harry. As Harry charged towards Mario, Peach dove forwards with her umbrella, stretching it out to reach him. The umbrella connected with Harry's legs, tripping him up and sending him sprawling over.

'Gah!" Harry yelped as he crashed onto ground.

The clouds were soft, so he was mostly unharmed, but as he tried to get up, Mario seized his chance, and hurled a fire ball towards the wiggler. The fire ball exploded into Harry, knocking him unconscious.

"Hey, you knocked out Harry! Oh, you're in for it now" Lucy yelled.

Lucy leapt over and kicked Mario in the gut. Peach swung around with her umbrella to continue the fight.

While all of this was happening, Luigi and Gordon were still fighting. As Gordon tried to head-but Luigi, Luigi performed a front flip over the top of Gordon's head. Luigi tried to land back on Gordon, but the little goomba was quick, and darted out from under him.

"Oh come on, you're a goomba, how are you this strong?" Luigi complained.

"Rude" Gordon snapped.

Suddenly, a fire ball sailed passed Gordon. The goomba looked over to see Mario with his arm outstretched, preparing to throw another.

"Stay out of this" Gordon shouted.

He charged towards Mario. At that same moment, Peach finally landed a perfect blow across Lucy's face, sending the unconscious koopa flying backwards. She landed right in front of where Gordon was running, and the goomba did not have time to slow down, and tripped over her. Before he could get back up, Luigi jumped on top of him, flattening him.

The three heroes stopped to catch their breaths, surveying the battle field and their unconscious foes.

"Who were those guys" Peach finally asked.

"I don't know' Mario said after a few moments of contemplation. "I assume that they're somehow connected to whatever is going on with those shadows." He thought for a few moments longer. "I think it's best if we continue on to Rock Candy Mines though, then we can figure out what's going on with all of this."

The other two nodded, and with Mario in the lead, they set back out for Rock Candy Mines.

Lucy the koopa awoke when she felt herself roll onto something weirdly squishy.

"Gah! Get off of me!" Gordon's muffled voice shouted.

Lucy rolled over and turned downwards, to find the smooshed Gordon, still flattened on the clouds.

"Oh, Gordon, what are you doing down there?"

Gordon rolled his eyes. (or at least he tried to. It was hard to do so when you were flattened.) "Just help me up."

Lucy picked up the squashed Gordon and shook him until his body returned to its original shape.

Once he was back on his feet, the two turned towards where Harry still lay. Gordon walked over and kicked him, in an attempt to wake him up. Harry sat up with a start.

"Gah! I'm innocent!" He screamed. Then, regaining his grip on reality, he looked around "What happened here."

"Those people we were trying to capture beat us" Gordon said.

"Those guys are such jerks" Harry seethed. "Next time I see those guys, I'm going to-"

No one ever got to hear what Harry was going to do, because at that moment his phone started to ring, playing the Yoshi's Story Theme(5).

"Seriously, you put that as your ringtone" Gordon asked in horror.

"What? It's literally the only game I'm in" Harry said.

"I rather like that song" said Lucy, earning a horrified look from Gordon.

Harry answered the phone: "Hello sir… No we didn't catch them, I'm really sorry… of course… Yes sir."

Harry hung up the phone. "Well you heard the Boss" He said.

"Well actually, we didn't" Lucy interjected. "It's not like we were listening in to your phone call like some creeps."

Gordon hurriedly backed away from where he was standing, where he had very obviously been attempting to do just that.

"Doesn't matter" Harry said. "The important thing is we have another shot at this. The Boss needs us to intercept them at that town."

"Great! Let's-A-Go!" Cheered Lucy as she ran off towards the edge of Meringue Clouds.

"Did she just quote Mario" Harry asked.

Gordon sighed. "Yes, yes she did."

(1):The seventh world in New Super Mario Bros. U.

(2):There is a secret ending in the Meringue Clouds Ghost House. It opens up a large rainbow that allows you to jump straight from it to Ludwig's Clockwork Castle. In this story, since our heroes are traveling backwards along Meringue Clouds, they went straight from the Castle to the Ghost House.

(3):The Land of Flying Blocks is the first level in Meringue Clouds.

(4):In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, It is revealed that Mario and Luigi hold the powers of Fire and Thunder, respectively.

(5):If you've never heard it, I highly recommend. The Yoshi's Story Theme is sung by the Yoshis themselves, which makes it wonderful, hilarious, and kind of annoying all at the same time!

Again, chapter four should be up sometime this week. I'll see you all next time!
