Kieran and Susie had walked into the Striaton City gym, both considering themselves able to defeat the gym leader, especialyl with the addition of the type advantaged simian that they had each been gifted. The Panpour, a male, Kieran decided to name Rainshaft, after the phenomon of a small but heavy area of percipation, rain in this case due to the Panpour being a water type.
"Bit of a funny name, but okay." Susie commented, as the manager of the desk, Clyde, offered the duo some water, who each accepted. Compared to potions, the fresh water was an incredible healing item, working as well as five of them, not that anyone but Susie herself had that much in terms of vitality to be restored in the first place.
"Well shall we?" Kieran asked.
"You bet." Susie said. Waiter Maxwell proved little challenge for either, and Waitress Tia was some trouble for Kieran, Sprout having fainted, and Audrey being at about half of her hit points. Giving this, Susie went on after defeating the waitress, and Kieran ran back to heal his Pokemon, as that was something you were allowed to do between the battles, though in later gyms this may be a long journey to be avoided if possible. While he did that, Susie faced the gym, taking on Cress. Niether of his two Pokemon proved much match for Susie, who was leaps and bounds above anyone else around, due to her level being quadruple of the first gym's strongest Pokemon. She was at an appropriate level for her species, at level 56, Dragonite evolving from Dragonair a level prior. After being presented the Trio badge, Kieran arrived back, and as he was facing a different trainer, Chili, he was allowed to start right then and there.
With Susie cheering him on, the first battle was between Sprout and Chili's Lillipup. The Lillipup came to an early advantage with Bite, though Sprout managed to get then down to about 25% health before fainting. Audrey was sent out next, who after Chili used a potion on the Lillipup, managed to defeat the about two-thirds health Lillipup, with about half her own health left. Next came the Pansear, whose fire-type move proved powerful, though not at advantage to one shot a full-health Sprout most likely. In terms of fighting, Pansear would've won with full health, so with the hurt Audino, Audrey fainted, Pansear at about sixty percent health. Next came the Panpour, Rainshaft. With an even battle, due to the type advantage cancelling out the level disadvantage, an unlucky critical hit seemed to be the end for Kieran, but luckily for him, the Panpour must have been at one to two hit points, as after staying down for a second or two, staggered back up. The fresh water provided at the enterance was used, and allowed the Panpour to survive the next move, and take out the Pansear to win the battle.
"Woo!" Kieran said excitedly, after a close batte coming out in his favor.
"Whoa ho! You're on fire!" Chili said. "Well, it's the Pokémon League's rule. Take this Gym Badge!"
"Thanks." Kieran said, taking it proudly.
"Good job." Susie replied.
"Thanks to you too." Kieran replied with a grin. "You sure wiped the floor with Cress."
"Yeah, maybe I'm as powerful as that nurse said I might be..." Susie said with a grin.
"Maybe." Kieran replied, not knowing exactly what they were on about. As the duo walked out the door, Lori met them in the doorway, inviting them to a house across the street, as one of Professor Juniper's friends had had something for the group.
"Hello." The woman said, the white labcoat hinting at the profession.
"Who are you exactly?" Kieran asked.
"I'm Fennel." The woman replied, brushing aside the knee-length dark purple hair from her eyes. "I'm a friend of the Professor."
"What do you want?" Susie asked, seeming defensive in nature.
"Well, I was here to give you something. Lori and that Ralsei fellow are already there, I thought I'd see if the rest of you were ready." Fennel replied.
"Ready for what?" Kieran asked.
"Well there's some dream scanning equiment I wanted to show you, and I also had an HM to give." Fennel replied.
"Interesting..." Kieran replied, following Fennel back to her lab, in the upstairs section of the house. Susie tagged along. The group noticed Ralsei and Lori already there, along with a lab assistant.
"Well now that you're all here." Fennel said. "I'll explain my reasoning to gather you all. You see, I'm a friend of Professor Juniper, and while she studies Pokemon, I study the trainers that command them."
"That's something." Lori said.
"Also, since I wanted you to go to the Dreamyard for something, I'll give you something in order to help." Fennel replied, giving each of the trainers a chance at the HM.
"What's it do?" Ralsei asked.
"With this Hidden Machine, you can teach your Pokémon a move called Cut." Fennel replied. "I thought it'd be useful, since I've heard there's some growth blocking access."
It was passed around, Lori using it on their Emolga, Ralsei on their Purrloin, Kieran on their Panpour, and Susie elected to keep it for later, in order to give it to whoever might need it, or to simply use it on a Pokemon that could learn it, as she didn't want to use it on herself.
"I'd like some of the dream mist that a Pokemon there called Munna gives off." Fennel said. "You guys could get me some, right?"
"Sure!" Lori replied. Ralsei nodded, Kieran gave a thumbs up.
Susie sighed. "I mean I guess, since everyone else wants to.
"Great." Fennel replied. "I'll see you later then!"
The group walked back down the stairs, and out towards the Dreamyard in order to gather the dream mist for Fennel.
