Chapter 209
Hiccups POV:
It's been six hours since we walked through the portal and that time had been spent helping the kids settle in but it was mostly Brant since Chara was still soundly sleeping. We started off by picking out their rooms with Brant asking that their rooms be next to each other since they don't like to be set apart from each other. The rooms weren't anything special since they were just guest rooms I'd give to Brant and Chara since these rooms were connected by a door. These rooms were pretty much identical with one large bed with alpaca fur bedding, blankets and stuffed pillows with the only differences being in color since Brant's bedding and blanket was dark navy blue while Chara's was white. Besides the beds there were also side tables on either side of the beds with a single candle on each and one picture of water with mug on the right nightstand in Brant's room and left in Chara's room. Next to these side tables were windows giving a nice view of the garden and a simple desk with chair beneath these windows and a small bookshelf next to them on the left in Brant's room and on the left in Chara's room.
The second Chara was tucked in she immediately snuggled into the covers with her bunny which was adorable and then came Brant who after thanking me for the room, jumped onto the bed. After he laid down, he told me that the bed was the softest thing he'd ever felt making me smile and look around while telling him that he could do anything he wanted to the room to make it his own. I then looked out the window and offered to give him a tour of the house while we wait for Chara to wake up but when I didn't get an answer I turned around and nearly laughed since he'd fallen asleep in the middle of the bed. Seeing how comfortable he was I didn't have the heart to wake him so I just used the quilt on the end of the bed to cover him up and left him to sleep.
After that I decided to see how the wolves, I had Adal take from Bard were doing with the pack and saw they'd been settling in nicely with Adal keeping a close eye on them. When they first saw me though they looked ready to kill me but a single growl from Adal was all it took to silence them before I had to deal with his pups wanting to play with me. I had no trouble doing this since they were too cute to ignore so I sat down and let them climb all over my lap while I kept my eyes on the new wolves who were staring at me as well. I took this time to examine each of them and found two to be female and one to be male but it was easy to tell it was the one female who led their little trio. The brown wolf with the scar on its back was a female while the grey one with the lighter underbelly and scar on its chest was male and finally, the light brown furred one with the scar going down its muzzle and over its eye was female and obviously the leader. It wasn't that difficult to tell that they didn't trust me but after all they've been through, I really couldn't blame them since they'd gone through a lot of abuse at the hands of Bard and his men. I didn't let it bother me since I know it's going to take time before they trust me enough to be considered trainable and join my other wolves in island patrols.
After that I went around my island letting its inhabitants know I was back but I took my time with the snake guardians since I needed to let them know about the kids in advance. I made sure they understood that the kids weren't trespassers but new inhabitants who were to be treated with nothing but the utmost care and respect. It wasn't hard to tell they were all curious about the children but I felt it best to wait for the kids to wake up before I let them see them. When that was done, I checked out how the crops in my garden and greenhouse were doing and I was not disappointed with what I saw since the crops would be ready for harvest in a few more days and by the looks of things it would be a good harvest. Sadly, it also meant I'd also need to make more of my automatons to help harvest all the fruits from the trees so my days were going to be very busy.
After that I spent some time sitting in my workshop, building a few new Harvest Mantis automatons to help with the coming harvest and so far, I've made six new ones. While I was doing this though I was keeping an eye on my young guests through the eyes of a scouters that I'd placed in their room to ensure that when they wake up, I'd be able to come and see them. As for the girls, they were both doing their own thing with Astrid going to see her parents on Berk and Blanca going to see her people while I work on things here. Before Astrid went to Berk though I asked her to let my parents know we're back but why I won't be coming to visit them until tonight at the latest since I wanted to help the kids settle in a bit more. After building the sixth automaton though I saw that Brant was coming to and knew he was most likely coming to so I figured it best I go and greet him which brings us to now, with me making my way to his room to greet him. I slowly pushed the door open and found Brant slowly waking up while he let out a yawn and rubbed his eyes while I smiled and walked up to his bedside as I asked.
"Sleep well?" He looked up at me allowing me to see tears forming in his eyes but before I could say anything he latched onto my waist in a hug making me worry as he said.
"I was afraid it was all just a dream and I'd wake up back in that cell on the ship." I gently hugged him.
"It was no dream, you're on my island while the slavers are cooling their heels in the Meatheads dungeon until they can be moved to Outcast Island." He smiled. "I'm surprised that you fell asleep so quickly though." He looked down in embarrassment.
"The bed was just so soft; I couldn't help it." I just chuckled.
"Come on, Chara's beginning to wake up so let's go grab her and I'll give you both a quick tour of the house and the surrounding buildings since a tour of the island would take too long so we'll do it tomorrow after breakfast."
He nodded before I helped him off the bed and lead him to the door leading to Chara's room so we could get her and begin the tour of the house. When we walked into the room, we found Chara sleeping quietly on the bed while cuddling her bunny making me smile since it was adorable. It was then Brant walked up next to her and gently shook her while whispering for her to get up before she let out a little yawn and sat up and looked around as she asked.
"Where are we?" Before he could reply I answered.
"Your new room Chara." She looked at me. "You fell asleep on Brant's back and I didn't want to disturb you so I decided to put you to bed." Brant then said.
"We're going on a tour of the house Chara."
"You up for it little lady?" She gave a gentle nod before I smiled. "Come here." I gently picked her up out of the bed and held her. "Let's get this tour on the road." With that said I took them out the room. "The top floor isn't much, it's just the bedrooms including my room and the guestrooms that are now your rooms." I then began walking towards the stairs. "Downstairs, is where things get busy." I made my way down the stairs. "Now let's begin the real tour." With that said I took them to my trophy room. "This is the trophy room where I keep souvenirs from some of my more memorable adventures." Brant walked in and looked around at all my trophies.
"So, all of these come from some big adventure?" I nodded.
"I keep them to remind me of the dangers the world has and how if I don't overcome them then many innocents would suffer." It was then Chara asked.
"What's that?" I looked at what she was pointing at me and saw her pointing at my real arm that was still trapped in crystal.
"That's my real arm that I lost against the sorceress Morgan le Fey." She looked disgusted.
"That's gross!" Brant then said.
"You never told us about that adventure, what happened to your arm and why is it set up in front of an old suit of armor?"
"That's not just any suit of armor, that's what's left of the armor I wore when I fought Morgan le Fey." I then ruffled his hair. "As for the adventure, I'll tell you when you're old enough to understand what I went through and the choice I had to make." He looked at me confused before Chara asked.
"What's behind that door?" I turned to see she was pointing at the door leading to the room where I kept my Greek trophies.
"Oh, that's the Greek trophy wing." They both looked at me with raised eyebrows as Brant asked.
"The trophies from Greece get their own room?"
"I didn't want to keep them in the same room as my other trophies or I'd need to expand it every time I get back from Greece." They both stared at me. "Yeah, let's just say those Greeks really have a lot of issues going on in their land." I could tell they were going to ask more but before they could I continued. "I'd tell you both everything but we'd be here all day and I'm sure you both want to see the rest of the house before dinner time." Brant then asked.
"How many rooms does this place have?" I shrugged.
"I don't know, I've never bothered to count them." With that said we continued the tour with me telling them about any trophy they asked about.
2 hours later
It's been two hours since the tour of the house begun and the first half hour of that time was spent in my trophy room telling them about the various adventures, I went through to get some of the trophies. They were shocked at the size of my library with Chara asking if I had read them all making me chuckle since I hadn't been able to read even half of them. When I showed them the forge though I got a surprise when Brant was able to name all the regular forging tools and was even able to ask me about how some of the items I had worked and was able to understand the answers. From this I learnt that his father was the blacksmith of his town before the slavers came and he used to enjoy helping him out in the forge whenever he could. I was happy when I heard this since it meant I might have a new little assistant in the forge and possibly a new apprentice of my own to teach the art of blacksmithing to.
During the tour of the pool though Brant literally ran into one of my service automatons that was fixing up one of the towels on a cline. This led to them asking many questions like how they work, what they do, how I control them and how many types of automatons exist and what I use them for. Following this I showed them the rest of the house with the exception of my vault since I felt it better it remains hidden and my private room since that room was off limits to everyone but me, which is something I made clear to them both.
After that, things went smoothly with them asking questions as expected but they were a little nervous when I took them to the dragon stables to meet my personal dragons. They did get a good laugh though when Toothless walked out covered in goo from his latest attempt to woo Flora and the other fury subspecies. We spent a good amount of time in there with me introducing them all to the various dragons with Brant hesitantly walking up to greet them while Chara leaned back into my chest in mild fear but it was understandable so I gently comforted her. Following this were the other buildings that were near the house but not part of it, like the stable where they met Phlegon and I got good laugh at their expressions when they saw his wings. Chara called him a magical pony making me chuckle at the huff he gave when he was called a pony, but I then corrected her by telling her what his species was called. Following this was a trip to my ship shed and from this I learnt that Brant also had a decent idea of how ships worked since his uncle on his mother's side was a sailor and would take the family out on trips.
When it came to the crop garden, I could see them licking their lips and I couldn't blame them since the crops were almost ripe and ready for harvest with the fruits looking juicy and the vegetables looking tasty. Following the crop garden came my regular garden and I could tell Chara was looking forward to exploring it but I did make sure they understood that the white rose that was Hadasa was never to be touched. When they asked me why I just claimed it had sentimental value to me and it was because of this I was protective of it so no touching it. Fortunately, my peacocks chose that moment to come and greet us so the minds of the children were taken off the rose and focused on the peacocks as they showed off their tail feathers to us.
After the tour we were all sat down at the dinner table with Astrid and Blanca, with a dinner of fresh boar meat, bread, vegetables and cold water to drink. I enjoyed the savory taste of the meat as Chara went on about how amazing she thought everything was and how she couldn't wait for tomorrow to play in the garden. Brant on the other hand was asking me about my island and all it had since he saw from his window that there was a lot of islands to check out but I just promised to take them both on a tour of the island different sections tomorrow. After that I had to tell them about the different sections and what they held such as animals and what the environments were like. I enjoyed telling him about them since I found his eagerness to learn reminding me a lot of myself whenever I visited a new land for the first time.
After dinner Astrid and Blanca took Chara away to take a bath leaving me and Brant alone with us going to the library to do some reading while the girls bathed. We both picked out a book with me helping Brant find one that suited his age group before we sat on the chairs in front of the fire and enjoyed the silence as we both began to read the books. As we did though I wondered what the girls were talking about in the bath before shaking my head knowing it wasn't any of my business and the girls would force me to sleep on the couch after punching me if I used one of my automatons to spy on them. Because of this I figure it best just get comfortable and enjoy the book in my hand along with the comfortable silence in the room.
Bath house
Nobodies POV:
The bath was filled to the brim with hot water releasing a cloud of steam that filled the entire room while mixing with the sound of sighs of pleasure from the Astrid as she gently lowered her body into the water. She looked back to where the clothes were kept and yelled out.
"COME ON IN, THE WATER'S GREAT!"
From the mist Blanca walked out with a white towel wrapped around her body and holding little Chara's hand, gently pulling her towards the tub while Chara herself held onto the small towel wrapped around her body. When they were a foot away from the baths edge, Blanca let her towel fall to the ground before climbing into the tub and letting out a sigh of content when she felt the hot water embrace her body. She turned back to see Chara still standing there on the edge of the bath, looking at it hesitantly making Blanca give a gentle smile as she stood up in the water and picked Chara up, allowing the towel to fall off the child's body. Blanca then gently lowered Chara down into the water while sitting down allowing Chara to sit down on her lap as she said.
"There now, the water is not so bad, is it?" Chara shook her head as Astrid swam up to them and said.
"Now let's get you cleaned up before bed." With that said they both began to gently scrub Chara of any filth she had accumulated during the day but when Astrid began cleaning her head tears began forming in her eyes which is something both women noticed. "What's wrong Chara?"
"I don't have hair anymore." It was easy to tell she wasn't happy about this. "I'm ugly now, those mean men said so." Blanca gently embraced her.
"Chara, don't listen to what those men said, you look beautiful with or without hair and when your hair grows back, we'll even style it and make you the prettiest girl in the archipelago." Chara sniffled.
"Really?" They both nodded and replied.
"Really!" With that said they got back to cleaning Chara and themselves.
1 hour later
Hiccups POV:
I was now lying in bed with my wives on either side of me snuggling into my chest while I stared at the ceiling and thinking about the day I spent with the children. I remember the feeling of being with the kids as I showed them around the main buildings that made up my home and I had to admit it was a good feeling. One of the best feelings was carrying little Chara in my arms since it felt good to have a child in my arms and when they laughed it made me feel warm inside. I knew it would take a lot more than just one day on the island to forge a better relationship with the kids than what we had now and it would probably take months to form a parent-child relationship with them if it were even possible.
I let out a sigh knowing tomorrow was a new day to bond with the kids and it was also the day I'd be taking them on a full tour of the island and to introduce them to the island's inhabitants. I just hope they understood how some inhabitants didn't like to be bothered while others were never to be touched with this last category referring to the frogs in the Mayan jungle with their toxic skin. I sighed, knowing tomorrow was going to be a very interesting day but I knew that it was also just going to be the first of many new days in this new adventure that was parenthood. With this in mind to let sleep take me and just like that I was out in just a few seconds and embracing the realm of sleep.
3 hours later
I would like to say my peaceful sleep was ended by the gentle caress of the mornings sun like normal but I'm sad to say that tonight my sleep was interrupted by the sound of crying that I was able to hear thanks to my ninja training. I quickly got up waking up my wives in the process who looked up at me in confusion and mild annoyance but I ignored that and hopped out of bed before running out the door to find out who was crying and why. When I got to the room where the crying was coming from and found it to be the room that I'd given to Chara to sleep in and pushed the door open to find Chara sitting in her bed with her bunny held tightly against her body and tears gently streaming down her cheeks. I walked up to her bedside and sat down which is when she finally noticed me and quickly grabbed onto my waist while crying as I gently embraced her and asked.
"What happened?"
"I had a bad dream." She sniffled. "The bad men who took my mommy and daddy came back and took me away." I gently stroked her head while quietly shushing her.
"Don't worry, it was just a bad dream, I'm here for you and those bad men are locked up in prison where they can't hurt anyone so you can go back to sleep and remember that nobody will hurt you and if they do, then they'll have me to deal with." She sniffled. "Would you like me to stay with you until you fall asleep?" She just held onto me tightly.
"Please don't go." I smiled and gently stroked her head.
"I'm not going anywhere until your sleeping peacefully again and even then; I'll stay to make sure you're alright before I even think of leaving you." She smiled and nodded before I began gently rocking her.
Half-an-hour later
Chara was now peacefully sleeping in her bed once more as I looked down at her sleeping under the covers with her bunny, being held in her arms. She'd been asleep for fifteen minutes now and although I could've left when she did, I decided to stay and watch over her to make sure she was comfortable but another reason is she was just too adorable and I wanted to watch her a little longer. Whenever I looked at her shaved head though I couldn't help but feel a little sad since it reminded me of the hardships her and Brant faced together at the hands of the slavers. I knew there was nothing I could do to erase the pastthat they'd suffered but I could at the very least give them a future that they could look forward to. Knowing it was time for me to head back to my own bed I gently kissed her head and whispered.
"Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you or your brother." I gently kissed her head and left for my own room but when I got there, I found both my wives sitting up in bed, waiting for me. "Sorry about that, but I have a good reason for running off like that." They looked at each other before smiling and turning back to me as Astrid said.
"It's alright Hiccup, we followed after you and saw why you ran off so fast." Blanca then said.
"It was sweet how you were there to comfort Chara the way you did." I smiled.
"I was just trying to help her." Blanca shook her head.
"No, you were being a good father to her." I smiled at this before I sighed and ran a hand through my hair.
"I'm just doing what I can for her and I'll keep on doing it and then maybe someday she'll be able to see me as a father and you both as mothers." They smiled before Astrid said.
"It's nice to think of the future but for now we should be thinking about tomorrow since we've all got a busy day taking the kids on the tour of the island." I smiled and climbed back into bed.
"And considering the size of the island and all the questions they're bound to ask; we best get some sleep." They both nodded as I lay down and the second my head hit the pillow I was out like a light.
7 days later
It's been seven days since we first brough Brant and Chara home and that time had mostly been spent helping the kids get settled into their new home. The first day where we took them on a full tour of the island took the whole day as expected and also as expected the kids bombarded us with questions about everything they saw. Me and the girls didn't mind though since it was expected of young children to be curious about new things but it was easy to tell they were a little hesitant at first which wasn't surprising considering their past. Before we left though we decided it best to leave the dragon nests out of the tour for a later day since the sight of them could be overwhelming and they were going to be seeing enough with the island having so much.
Me and the girls decided to start with an environment we knew they'd be familiar with so we went with the forest where the wolves roam first. I could tell the children were a little nervous around the wolves, especially the ones we freed from Bard but I knew they'd warm up to the wolves over time even though it would not be easy for them. I enjoyed watching them run around the woods laughing and having fun showing they most likely often played in the forest before they were taken by slavers. Seeing them playing I could picture them enjoying their new lives here, playing in the woods with me, my wives, my dragons and even my wolves in time. The kids did get curious about the large mountain that was the griffins roost but I decided to skip that part of the tour since my griffins did not like being disturbed and I wasn't sure how they would react to children. We did go on a tour of the coliseum though and I even showed them some of the things it could do to help me train my dragons and animals.
Then came the jungle which they were both curious about with Brant immediately wanting to explore it while Chara wanted to touch one of the pretty frogs but I warned her about them being poisonous. That stopped her attempts at touching the frogs but she was disappointed until she saw my jaguars who took a liking to the kids. I could see the kids were hesitant until Maya walked up and gave Brant a gentle nuzzles and after an encouraging nod from me, he tried to pet her. When she didn't pull away, he continued to do so before Chara tried her luck with Diego and got the same results showing that there wasn't anything to be worried about. After that our encounters with the other animals in the jungle went similarly except with my night monkeys since the kids couldn't help but stare into their eyes and I couldn't blame them. After that we spent some time resting at the top of the Mayan temple since the kids enjoyed looking over the jungle from the top of it with my amphiptere dragons.
When it came to the bamboo forest, Chara wanted to go and cuddle with the pandas which I had no problem allowing her to do since they were gentle bears. While she played with them, we went and sat down at the shrine watching her play with the pandas with Brant keeping a close eye on her showing how protective he was. He did get quite a surprise though when Dogame tapped his stick on his shoulder to get his attention and when he turned to see what it was it was clear he was not expecting a living gong next to a creature with a bell for a head, looking up at him in curiosity. His yelp actually caught Chara's attention who stopped playing with the pandas to see what had scared her big brother and when her eyes landed on the two possessed items, she immediately ran over to find out what was going on. I then introduced them to two of the bamboo forests other inhabitants before Nagareboshi came out of the forest, probably wondering what was going on. The introductions to these inhabitants took a while since I had to explain to the kids what yokai were and what species these ones were.
Then came the desert where they met Nylene who was lounging in the gazebo before Chara called beautiful resulting in my serpopard wrapping her neck around the little girl and nuzzling her while she giggled. Brant on the other hand looked around at the sands while telling me that he was sure that they were moving without any wind making me chuckle. I rubbed his head and told him that the desert may not be as big as the deserts of Egypt but like those deserts it held its own secrets that were waiting to be uncovered. The reason I told him this was because it was easy to tell he had a lot of energy and I wanted to encourage him to explore the various parts of his new home since it would make him stronger in the long run. Our little talk was interrupted by Chara giving a little surprised eep making us turn around to see her still wrapped up in Nylene's neck but with Amr now staring at her from his place on the floor. I immediately calmed her down with the help of the girls before explaining to both her and Brant who and what Amr was, while petting him to prove my point of him not being a threat.
Following this desert, we went for a walk through the Indian desert but it was easy to tell the kids didn't like it, the way she buried her head into my chest while Brant stuck to Astrid's side. I could understand their uneasiness since the dust coyotes were watching us with their red eyes in the distance as they roamed through the desert. Even though I told the children that the dust coyotes weren't anything to be worried about I could still see the fear in their eyes so I signaled them to stay back. I could see their relief when we left the desert and entered the great planes where Aylen was roaming the fields around the teepee in front of the lake. We took a break from walking, by sitting in front of the lake and watching Aylen running across the waters of the lake while the kids watched in awe.
Then we went to the autumn forest where the snake guardians' home was located and it was during this time, I could see the fear in the eyes of the children when they saw the snakes slithering around the trees. I just smiled while letting them know that the snakes were like Blanca and wouldn't hurt them and to prove a point one of them slithered into our path and bowed before taking its half human form. This one was a blue scaled snake guardian with the head of a snake and scaled body who bowed to us in greeting while Chara buried her head into my chest and Brant hid behind Blanca. He bowed to us before extending his head towards Chara and telling her that both her and her brother had nothing to fear from him or the other snake guardians and that should they ever be in trouble then they'd be there to help them. With that said he gave one last bow before slithering off with the kids watching him go but it was easy to tell the fear in their eyes had lightened up and been replaced with a look of wonder.
Then came the Hawaiian beach and it was easy to tell the kids were going to enjoy spending time here since Chara begged me to let them stay for a bit. When I turned to Brant, he explained that Chara had loved the beach, ever since she was a baby so I promised her we could play on the beach after we completed the tour of the area. She was a little disappointed but accepted my decision as we made our way into the jungle to meet Moana and show them the Hawaiian shrine I'd built. After that we spent two hours on the beach, playing in the sand and splashing around in the water with me taking some time to do some surfing on Wave Chomper. This got the attention of the kids so when I got back to shore, they pretty much begged me to teach them how to surf but before I could agree I got a glare from the girls, shooting down my plans to teach them until they were older.
After we finished playing on the beach, we continued the tour with a trip to the African savannah where I introduced the kids to my savannah wing and the young lion cub who called it home. The kids were nervous around Davu who I have to admit, would look a little creepy to a lot of people but they were happy to try and get to know Mfalme who hid under Davu when they saw him. I could see the disappointment in their eyes but I quickly got rid of it when I took them up the baobab tree and gave them a good view of the savannah while telling them old African folktales, I heard on my visits there.
When I felt we'd spent enough time there I figured we could use some time to cool off so we took off to the arctic section of the island where Hubbard was waiting with the sleigh. The kids were a little freaked out by Hubbard but they calmed down a bit when I got them both in the sleigh between Astrid and Blanca while I sat in the front to steer. As we rode through the frozen wasteland, I had a smile on my face thanks to the sound of Chara's laughs of joy ringing in my ears until we reached the middle where the grove that holds the crystal that makes the lights in the sky's is. We spent a little time in the grove letting the children wonder around and just have fun, playing around in the green grass while under the lights in the sky while me and my wives watched.
Once the kids had tired themselves out, we decided it would be a good idea to take them to some place where they could rest a bit so we took them to the Irish hills. We all spent an hour there just lying down in the grass and watching the clouds go by which was nice until Brant got curious about the crystal cave and asked me about it. I didn't hesitate to give them a quick tour followed by a short question and answer session about the crystals, what they were for and how I used them. After that we went to the final section of the island which was also the latest addition, the Australian outback where we all ended our day just exploring the land, getting to know the inhabitants. We did end our time there with a small picnic meal there since it was close to sundown and it was clear the kids were getting hungry from the growling sounds of their stomachs.
All in all, it was an eventful day so it was no surprise when we got back to the house Chara was asleep in my arms while Brant was asleep in Astrid's arms. We decided it best to just tuck them into bed and let them sleep rather than waking them up since they looked so peaceful, it would be hard for any of us to disturb them. The rest of the night was ours after we tucked them in and following this day, things were pretty good with the kids going to explore the island on their own with me keeping an eye on them through the eyes of my automatons.
Besides that, I'd gone and visited my parents and talked with them though my father was not the least bit happy that I'd made such a huge decision and not come to tell them about it the minute I got back. I just told him I needed to help the children settle in and reminded him of what my house was like and how different it was to the traditional Viking homes along with the size of my island. This calmed him down a bit but he still felt anger that he had to find out through Astrid's parents who were told by their daughter about the little ones. My mom wasn't much help in this situation since she wasn't too thrilled with me keeping the kids a secret either but she was a bit more understanding than my dad was.
After they'd fully calmed down, we talked about putting Brant into school with the other kids since he was at the age where he should be studying and making friends his own age. He'd be starting next semester which started with the harvest season since it meant when parents are out handling the crops, their children would be kept out of trouble. When I let Brant know that he'd be starting school in two weeks' time he was not happy since he didn't want to be separated from Chara but we were able to calm him down with the promise that she'd be fine if he were gone for a few hours.
Besides that, the only other big thing to happen with this the bazaar had happened which I was happy to take the kids to since I figured it'd be good for them to experience a bit of culture. It was during the bazaar I dipped into my fortune and bought a couple of toys that were being sold for Chara and Brant to help them settle into life a bit easier. After it closed, we'd taken a trip to the northern markets to buy a few more toys and other things to help the kids make their rooms more comfortable for them. All in all, things had been quiet for us and for that I was greatful since it meant the kids would have an easier time settling into their new lives.
Now I was in my bedroom wearing just my pants looking out at my garden that was covered in the light of the moon while my wives were behind me, sleeping peacefully in bed. Sleep didn't come as easily to me since the thoughts in my head were way too busy with me wondering about the future both far away and soon as the coming harvest season. With harvest season just two weeks away things would be busier than ever for me around the island and with the kids around it'd be a little more difficult since with Brant in school, Chara wouldn't have a playmate. Blanca and Astrid had both volunteered to look after her in shifts but even they wouldn't be able to look after her all the time since they had other responsibilities to tend to. The problem is I couldn't just leave her alone to wonder the island by herself, I couldn't keep her locked in the house as that'd be mean and I couldn't ask for help from those on Berk since everyone would be busy with the harvest including Gobber who'd be busy repairing harvest tools. I sighed knowing it was a problem I'd need to find a solution for and soon since the last thing I wanted was for her to end up in any sort of trouble. I turned back to face my sleeping wives and smiled knowing whatever comes next, the three of us would be a team through the adventure that is parenthood. With this in mind I returned to my original place between them and embraced the sweetness of slumber knowing I'd need it with the coming challenges.
AN: Yeah, I know it's not a very exciting chapter but I felt the need to just do a recap on all the environments the island has since there are a lot of them while also giving the kids the tour. I'm hoping to make the next chapter a bit more exciting followed by a trip somewhere in the following so if you have any preferences as to where to go let me know. Also, for those wondering about Hadasa, she'll be back in later chapters but only after the kids have fully accepted their new lives. By the way all next week I'm back at work so things might get back to normal soon but we'll have to wait and see how things are. In the meantime, review kindly, stay safe and have a happy new year all.
