RWBY 40k fanfiction – Salem, mistress of Inquisition.
Ep 18 : Sanguinius.
843.M30.
Salem embraced his son Sanguinius on the desert that is Baal, more precisely in the amphitheater of Mount Seraph, place of the tribe of the Bloods, the tribe whose ruler was Sanguinius was the chief.
She had not imagined such a beautiful and calm son.
A son with golden hair, a perfect physique like his brothers.
But above all possessing large wings as if he were the holiest angel among the saints.
Sanguinius: "You are my mother..."
Salem: "Yes... I never thought I'd see a son as beautiful and as calm as you."
Emperor: "With your strength. We will be able to free mankind from misery. Just as you were able to free these beings from despair."
Sanguinius moved away from Salem then knelt before the Emperor.
Sanguinius: "Spare them, father. They are as human as other humans. They yearned for life. As Emperor of Mankind, we are one people."
The Emperor was surprised at Sanguinius's words but seeing his attachment to the mutated inhabitants of the planet made him feel pity.
Emperor: "Get up my son."
Sanguinius stood up.
Emperor: "As you say. The Emperor of Mankind rules over an entire race. Both the former and the latter are citizens. Fear not, Baal will once again become as verdant as all the rest."
Sanguinius: "Thank you, father..."
A few days later...
Sanguinius set out from Baal with warriors of the Bloods.
He saw that a ship was descending on the planet, it bore the symbol of TAFS.
Sanguinius: "What is it?"
Salem: "A ship from TAFS or the Treaty of Alliance of Free Stars. An empire in the service of your brother Kira Saito. This empire has retained most of the glorious era, including the formation of pressurized cities and other space colonies. Do not be afraid for when you return, your people will be countless and happy."
Sanguinius: "I hope so."
Salem got to know his son and the mother and son relationship grew stronger over the years.
But she felt something in him, an impalpable but very present and burning emotion.
Salem decided to teach her magic but Sanguinius couldn't materialize it, which the mother.
A day in the Infinite.
Sanguinius tried to materialize a ball of magic between his hands.
Salem: "Come on Sanguinius. Let the magic come to you. You can do it."
Sanguinius: "Rggrnnn..."
He was trying to form the ball of energy that looked more like a distorting plasma.
Salem then felt Sanguinius' emotion slip more out of his mind. A rage, a limitless rage, without reason, a nameless destructive will.
Sanguinius eventually gave up and calmed down.
Sanguinius: "I'm sorry mother. But it's impossible for me to use magic."
Salem: "What's the matter? It seems... like you're constantly enraged. Why?"
Sanguinius: "Ever since I came to Baal. I've always felt it...I've worked hard to avoid being an animal...But I still have it and I don't understand."
Salem remained silent in disbelief but finally sighed.
Salem: "Come with me."
They left the training room before going to the library.
Upon arriving, Salem took his large grimoire and placed it on a large table.
Sanguinius: "What is it?"
Salem: "It is a book of knowledge that I have been writing since the beginning of the Great Crusade for the discovery of magical facets. Since your brother Magnus joined the Great Crusade. We have been able to make dazzling advances in knowledge .
A beginning of an answer can be found here..."
Sanguinius: "Do so..."
Salem opened his grimoire and began searching through his book in an attempt to find an explanation for Sanguinius' affliction.
But nothing, nothing came out of this book. Nothing could explain Sanguinius' deep rage.
Salem: "I'm sorry. I don't understand where this rage is coming from. I was speculating that it could be the darkness of the Dark God of my world. But I think this affliction is from your father. I am sorry I can't help you here."
Sanguinius: "It's nothing..."
Salem felt Sanguinius' frustration deep inside him.
Salem looked at him and took his hand. Which astonished the angel.
Salem: "No matter what might happen to you. I'll be there for you Sanguinius. I promise. And we'll find a way to use your magic."
Sanguinius: "Really."
Salem: "Since I left my world. I swore to always keep my promises."
She put her hand on Sanguinius' cheek.
Salem: "It's valid for you my child. I didn't have the opportunity to hold you in my arms. But I will make up for it here."
Sanguinius remained surprised but wore a delighted smile.
Sanguinius: "Thank you mother."
She let go of Sanguinius' embrace.
During the years that followed.
Salem followed by Horus taught Sanguinius the art of war.
But above all, Sanguinius mostly learned how to better control his rage and bury it deep within him.
This better control allowed him to use some magic.
But that was still limited, he focused on strengthening his body in raw strength and speed.
Despite this, Sanguinius felt an ever greater sadness as he learned of the state of his Legion.
Salem informed him with sadness and shame about the IXth Legion.
The IXth Legion was among the most feared and despised of the Great Crusade along with the Warhounds known for their savagery and the massacres they perpetrate against their enemies.
Unlike other Legions whose recruits were champions, soldiers, great warriors and other young volunteers with dreams of adventure. The IX Legion is made up largely of criminals and other convicts. Additionally, they were corrupted by mutations that left them vulnerable to their own inner rage.
But after a long time, it was time he met his Legion.
Salem Expeditionary Fleet was in front of the planet of Teghar, a world swept by raging storms.
There was the IXth Legion.
Salem: "Now go Sanguinius. Meet your sons."
Sanguinius: "..."
He took a transport ship and entered the planet's atmosphere.
He saw lots of little dots on the ground. Finally arriving on the ground and exiting the ship.
He saw his sons up close for the first time. Men with the faces and builds of angels but their expressions were filled with rage and excitement at the next slaughter they were about to perpetrate.
Sanguinius exited the ship, accompanied by a small company of Luna Wolves.
He opened his white wings and, to the surprise of many, he knelt down in front of them.
Sanguinius: "My sons. I saw you and I was very sad to see how much you suffered.
I swear to you that from now on, you regain your dignity.
Let me join you in your noble task."
The sincerity of Sanguinius' words surprised the IX Legion, their genetic father spoke to them with respect and love, unlike the rest who despised them.
They looked at each other hesitantly but finally knelt down and swore their allegiance back.
Sanguinius left with the IX Legion and ordered the members of the XVI Legion to leave him alone.
The armada then set out against Teghar Pentaurus, the 5th planet of the Teghar system.
All observed by Horus and Salem.
Horus: "Can it happen?"
Salem: "I think so. Sanguinius will stop at nothing to prove his worth."
Horus: "The IXth Legion is however among the most hated."
Salem: "The Legion will get straightened out and get the glory it deserves."
Sanguinius after a few days of travel arrived in front of the Teghar Pentaurus.
A large planet that looks green and welcoming but contains hostile Abhuman tribes with Carnodon slaves.
The order was given to purge the planet of these monsters to make this planet a new world for colonists.
Thus, Sanguinius descended with the IX Legion and the campaign of Teghar began.
For several weeks the abhuman hordes were destroyed, their villages burned and their half-best slave destroyed.
Sanguinius at one point took the head of a Carnodon before showing it in front of everyone.
Sanguinius could feel the loyalty of his sons growing within them.
Sanguinius knew that it would be very difficult for his Legion to recover. But a challenge like this didn't scare him.
Seeing his sons splattered with the blood of their enemies, Sanguinius came up with the name of the Legion: the Blood Angels.
So, for the next 10 years, the IX Legion went on the Great Crusade and gradually regained its honor.
In the siege of Anaxis XIII by a tide of Hruds, they learned brotherhood alongside the Imperial Fists.
On Cambriole and Prehalt, he taught them discipline against the Aeldari blades. Finally on Kentaurus Beta, the Bloods Angels learned of mercy.
After this redemption campaign.
The IXth Legion returns to Baal who has changed a lot.
The fortress-monastery built by the II Legion was completed.
A large city rose around the amphitheater while vast fields stretched beyond.
Despite the fact that the rest of the planet was dead, the fortress city was an oasis in the smoldering wasteland that is Baal.
Sanguinius descended with his Legion and discovered the new recruits.
New angels who learned the eloquence of the Primarch and suppressed their anger from the start.
Sanguinius knew that now his Legion would be united enough to set off again through the stars.
To be continued... Lion El'Jonson, the Knight of Caliban.
And...
Perturabo, the great tactician.
