"-Thus the Airborne strike shall ensue in a week from now. The deployed troops will then secure the city until an armistice, followed by a surrender request, is signed."
I finished listing out the final planning of this big operation. All details were studied, all needed resources and more dispatched, and aerial check-ups made more frequently to avoid any surprises during the operation. We had a rather limited amount of airborne troops ready to make the trip- we definitely didn't need any of them dying during the flight or during the expected 'raining' upon the big target that was the Federation's capital. Or where their government had decided to recently move to, really.
It was all going to happen quickly and without hesitation as the Emperor had made it a huge priority to see it unfold as swiftly as possible. I didn't need an explanation to know why and I definitely knew that things were turning badly on both sides far too fast for an immediate peace now to fix things.
Logistics, potential mutinies for the extended mobilitation and the fact that the next enemy would be the fellow Imperial citizen- there are just so many reasons why this was a bad situation for anyone trying to preserve the Empire. Hence why, out of 'kindness', I gave Berthold Gregor the order to muster a portion of the former invasion force once commanded by Prince Maximillian and use it to reinforce the Capital's defenses.
The old man did 'perceive' something, but he knew better than waste the chance to get defenses going to protect his beloved emperor. I just needed him out of the count so that I could get some unfinished businesses wrapped up before shit detonated all around.
At this very moment, Gallia was the safest spot where to be once these similar yet different implosions unfolded. The only thing I needed was to put engineers and scientists that had been feeling worried about the wellbeing of their families, and have them all come here. Part of that process had already been done, but I had been restrained to avoid any suspicion in that regard. With Berthold out of the way, we had to get this wild plan started while everyone was fixed on the end of the war.
Cordelia was aware that I was preparing for 'things to go bad' around Gallia, but the promise of Gallia's survival through it all was enough to buy her 'silence'. It would be wrong to say she would sell us out without that promise, but it made for a comfortable reason to not even consider that.
Still, I was unaware of one thing that today would no longer be a secret to me: there was another reason why she has been behaving quite warmly around me and why she had been giving looks while she thought I wasn't aware or looking in her direction.
"I am glad to hear that, Kurt," She hummed with a pleased tone. "But, if I may be a bit blunt about this... what is your plan once the war is over? You are going to stay, that's for sure, but what are you... going to do if the Empire..."
"If it collapses, then I will just keep on doing my business as the Commissar in this region. Then, as per agreement, I would concede you the role of monarch once you reach adulthood and-"
"And?"
A bit pushy and impatient than usual, but I merely nodded. "And I will 'relegate' my duties of 'governor' to the future Archduchess for her to form a democratic government. Of course, I will retain my current powers but allow a different form of government to 'satisfy' the people."
I expected some annoyance at the ploy, but Cordelia merely frowned and asked something very curious.
"Isn't it a bit too convoluted?"
I leaned back. "Hm? You think so?"
"Y-Yes. I don't wish to sound pretentious but... wouldn't it be easier to stay in charge?"
"People would still find a reason to see me as a tyrant regardless of the efforts put to not appear as such. With a government that is led by-"
"An Archduke."
...
"Beg your pardon... Cordelia?" I felt my voice trail a bit as I saw the girl produce a document from her side of the table and push it across to where I was sitting. I caught it, but it took my brain sometime to fully grasp what I was reading. I felt surprised, confused, perplexed, suspicious and... amused. Very amused.
In a way, this felt fitting considering Cordelia's inability to conjure by words alone strong feelings. I had seen this when she tried to explain her hatred for the nobles, and how she had to pretty much push aside the idea of delivering improvised speeches for 'natural effect'. She just couldn't produce the right kind of words with the feelings and thoughts the subject conveyed to her.
Hence why she was keen to write down what was clearly a request for an arranged marriage between herself and me. It wasn't just a traditional one, she had purposely changed and added a few points. Things like 'equal partners', 'no one is a consort', and 'mandatory weekly date day with rare exceptions' were not meant to be in the standard document in that regard.
"...Oh."
"So?"
I sighed, drawing in air and filling my lungs out of instinct at the sudden query. Nervous, childish but... truth be told, we were around the same age. Similar age and mental maturity at that. I scratched the back of my head, removing my hat and... glancing at the nearby window.
"Ice cream does sound nice now, doesn't it?"
I perceived her blinking with a quizzical look on her face. "A hangout?"
I blinked back. "A date."
Cordelia tensed up a tiny bit, it was barely visible but I noticed as we were both studying each other's reactions.
"Hm. It wouldn't be bad."
...
"Also, if I may sound a bit forward..." The princess pushed forth, regaining my full attention. "I... I wouldn't mind talking with Isara too."
That stunned me. "Why?"
"I feel like... we have a mutual understanding of a topic, and I don't see why not being... 'pragmatic' about it."
That was worrisome to some extent, but I couldn't decipher the full topic just yet. Not when my brain was recoiling with a love confession by paperwork of all possible ways.
"And... I need to speak with Crymaria too. In private. Like with Isara."
...At this point, I just decided to ignore what is going on with this for the time being. Too much on the plate already, I could hardly be assaulted by so many emotional/romantic situations all at once...

Hertling is getting a bit of a raw experience on getting confessed via 'request of arrange marriage'. Next time, a date and then the next next one will see end of the war!
REVIEW Q&A!
Lord of Steel:
1) I have yet to lay plans on those;
2) Not anytime soon;
3) I am not experienced in none of those. I have played FF Advanced Tactics and that was a brief moment of my childhood I seek to forget (for good reasons, that game was so confusing for a kid);
Hissen no Ne: Probably not because I see no point in bringing a tale that unfolds primarily 100 years before the current timeline.
Chyperion: For the time being, both countries will go 'radio silence' to international affairs as things are about to get tense in mainland Europa.
