Hinata Hyuga - 18 year old girl, last year in high school. Living by herself in a big town in Japan. She has been living on her own for two years now. As her parents died in a tragic accident when she was 16, she was left with just her cousin - Neji. He owned two restаraunts and a 5 star hotel, so he was..rich. Him being rich meant he could easily pay HInata's rent or if she wanted to - she could stay with a friend. They both agreed that HInata staying with Neji wouldn't be the best option, because he had a wife and a little kid. It was not like she was going to be in the way- more like she won't have much personal space any time of the day. And she was a teenager - she needed her alone time.
Unfortunately Hinata didn't have anyone to stay with. She had only one friend, that she couldn't even say was her friend. They just talked at school from times to times. Besides - he was a guy. Even if they were close, she still wouldn't want to stay with him. He was a nice person, so he would probably agree, but Hinata decided that it would just be too awkward to ask anyone and just lived by herself.
Neji found her a pretty decent place to stay, near his home, so he could be close.
"You can always come have dinner with us."
"I know" the girl grinned while unpacking her stuff.
It was all new. It wasn't a big place, so it would be easy to take care of. It was pretty simple, the kitchen was big enough, the bed was large, the wardrobe was perfect for all her clothes. Maybe it was too large for her, so it kinda felt empty.
"Alright. I have to go. Tenten just texted me that dinner is ready. You can come, if you want?"
"Neji, I will be fine. Besides...I have too much to unpack." she looked down at her suitcase still full of clothes.
"Alright." he put on his shoes. "Just call me if you need anything!"
She nodded and then right after he shut the door, it was like loneliness filled up the room.
Two years later
"Good morning, Hinata!" a loud male voice startled the Hyuga that just entered the school yard.
It was Naruto Uzumaki - the guy that she talks to from times to times. Just as possible friends of course. Hinata wasn't interested in him romantically or anyone in that matter.
But if she befriended one of the popular guys at school - Hinata could eventually get more friends. She wasn't sure if making friends was what she needed or if she would feel less lonely, but she had to try. Hinata knew that nothing could replace the parents love, but she desperately needed distraction from all these bottling feelings inside her.
"Good morning, Naruto." she smiled at him but then she saw his closest bud - Sasuke Uchiha standing behind him - her smile disappeared.
The guy that every girl was in love with. Every girl...but Hinata. She actually hated his guts!
Hinata started hating him not too long ago, when he started rejecting girls in front of everyone without even considering their feelings. And he was an asshole. Not just for that, but in general. He thought he was better than anyone, so he acted like he didn't care about anything. But Hinata could see right thru him. He actually lost his parents too - he couldn't be that careless. The fact that he was probably as lonely as the Hyuga - or even more - made her not understand his actions at all. It was obvious that he was struggling - at least it was obvious to her. Maybe he was bottling his feelings as well and was afraid to let any girl near him. Maybe he was still heartbroken, but Hinata just didn't respect him enough to try and talk about that with him.
"Oi." said the Uchiha, looking at her. "Maybe you should cut your hair. It's starting to get in your eyes."
And his comments. What an ass. Why can't he just shut up and walk his way to his classroom and not bother anyone in any way.
"Why don't you mind your own business? Your hair looks awful. It's like a cow licked it all over."
"It was just a suggestion, Hinata. Also...who even talks like that?" he answered with a laugh and started walking towards the entrance of the school without even saying bye to Naruto.
"Call me Hyuga, not Hinata." she crossed her arms in disbelief. "And fuck off."
Sasuke turned back around and flipped her off and started walking again. That made Hinata just a little bit...pissed off. Just a little bit. How dare he act like that? He didn't even know a single thing about her or her personality.
"Don't mind him!" Naruto laughed.
"I'm glad we are not from the same class. Because if we were - I wouldn't be able to keep my fists away from his face."
And she wasn't even lying. It's not like she is some kind of bully she just couldn't stand people like him. Whatever happened to you or your family shouldn't have an impact on how you treat other people.
"Oi, Hinata-chan, I didn't know you were that aggressive!" Naruto started laughing even more at the situation.
He used to fight with Sasuke that same way, but Naruto understood why his best bud was like that. He knew all about him and his reasons. And outside school the Uchiha was actually - an okay guy. At least that's how Naruto and the other Uchiha's friends describe him. But once Hinata loses respect for someone - it was almost impossible to regain.
"He is the aggressive one. And rude. And an asshole. " she started walking towards the entrance as well avoiding looking at either the Uzumaki or the Uchiha.
The Uzumaki seemed a little bit confused, he thought maybe he could fix that hate between the two. It would be difficult tho. Both Hinata and Sasuke weren't good with other people especially the opposite sex.
"These two would make a great couple."
Naruto smiled to his thoughts. He wasn't the smartest guy.
"I don't think so." one of his other friends showed up.
"Oi, Shikamaru!"
"I mean Hinata would be perfect to Sasuke since she would understand him. But Sasuke..Sasuke isn't ready for a relationship yet. He doesn't know how to act towards girls."
"You are ruining all the fun, Shikamaru.."
It was time for lunch break
Hinata loved spending her lunch break on the school roof. It might seem like everyone does, but not in the winter. Even if there wasn't any snow, it was still pretty cold to just go outside to have lunch. But the Hyuga didn't mind the cold, she preferred it that being hot. She had her favorite scarf and jacket on. The scarf was a gift from her mom - hand made. Hinata loved wearing it, it was making her warm and reminded her of the warm personality of her loving mother. Especially with the " I love you " written on the inner side with small letters. It was like hearing her say it when she looks at it.
When she got the the roof, she found no one there. So she found herself a little spot and opened up her lunch box. It seemed like the perfect lunch break. Alone time on the roof with her yummy lunch made my Neji's wife. Usually Hinata cooks for herself, but lately Tenten had more free time. Which made it the perfect opportunity for the teenager to have some more sleep and not wake up early to make food.
And that's when it hit her again. Her mother teaching her to cook...
"Why looking so sad, Hinata?"
And the most annoying person showed up unexpectedly interrupting her thoughts. For some reason, Uchiha Sasuke was on the roof in the middle of winter. He didn't seem cold. He wasn't shivering or anything. He wore a hoodie over his uniform, but he still had to be even a little cold, right? But didn't show a sign of feeling cold.
"Fuck off, Uchiha." she took a bite from her sandwich and tried looking away from him.
Even if the Uchiha didn't like this girl, she was somehow interesting to him. She was the only person at school sharing his trauma, even if he lost his parents way more years ago than Hinata did. He still wanted to find out more about her, but at the same time - she was so annoying and distant. So when he saw her going to the roof, he preferred going after her than getting surrounded by girls in the cafeteria.
"I just wanted to have lunch with someone."
"What about Naruto?"
"He will be coming in a minute, he wanted us to come here and then I saw you all looking sad so.. I thought maybe inviting you with us."
"But you said..never mind." she rolled her eyes and then the blonde guy suddenly appeared from behind Sasuke.
"Guys! Sakura invited me to karaoke after class! Do you want to come?"
"I'll pass." the Uchiha looked annoyed at the question.
Sakura was one of his biggest fans, so he didn't like her much. They were childhood friends so he felt like he should stay friends with her, even if he didn't really felt it was right. They were even in the same class - it wasn't like he could ignore her. Even after he humiliated in front of the whole class - she still wanted him around and didn't hate him at all. Which was weird. Very weird.
You heard that right. Sasuke said he wants nothing to do with Sakura in front of the whole school at the "choose a carrier day". He said it on a microphone. So everyone could hear and understand. And it was then, that Hinata realized Sasuke wasn't just an ass, but a bad person as well.
"Sure." Hinata smiled. "Are there gonna be others too?"
"Yeah, some other friends of hers! Sasuke, are you sure you don't want to come?" Naruto looked at him with his best puppy eyes that he could do. Sasuke took out a deep sigh, he actually thought he could get closer to Hinata in a way. He knew she agreed only because he isn't going, so he had to go.
"Fine."
Hinata of course - didn't look happy about his answer. But some karaoke with people from school might add some to her friend list. She needed a girl friend now. She wanted to feel what's like to gossip, talk about boys...stuff like that. Even when she had a crush on a guy, she never had anyone to tell. Now she doesn't even have a crush to talk about, but she might just...make up one. It was not hard to just say Naruto or someone. Just to have something to talk with the other girls.
"Only because Hinata is going." Sasuke grinned at her unhappy face.
He liked seeing her angry face. And that's what he was getting from her. But he didn't like it just because he wanted to annoy her, but because she...seemed cute. Even if he will never admit he thought that.
"That's so sweet, Sasuke!" the naive Uzumaki thought these two were actually starting to get along.
But that wasn't the case at all. Sasuke was still receiving dead threats in the form of looks, while he was evilly smiling. Still, Hinata didn't want to stay at home, so she decided that the stupid Sasuke won't be in her way today. Or at all.
Naruto still had some plans on his mind to make them friends. But he was a little bit naive and dumb - so maybe he wasn't the right person to do that...or maybe no one should try since these two were closer to killing each other than becoming friends.
"You sing great, Sakura-chan!" Naruto's voice was definitely the loudest from all the people gathered in the karaoke room.
Naruto obviously had a crush on Sakura, but she thought he was just very friendly. He was friendly to everyone. He was loud and always brings attention to him. But tonight, for some reason - the focus was on Hinata. Her face was all red from all the looks she was getting. She even started sweating a little bit from nervousness. Sasuke enjoyed seeing her feel that awkward, not saying a word. Even when he tried to provoke her into saying something, she still stayed silent. The bluenette wasn't used to all of that. She felt shy, and it was like she wasn't where she was supposed to be.
"This song..is for Sasuke." one of the girls said, as Sakura sat down right next to Sasuke with her drink in her hand.
The song seemed to be about a guy who was acting like an ass. Hinata laughed silently, trying not to get any more attention to her. Well, all the looks moved to Sasuke now.
"Why are you singing this to Sasuke-kun?" another girl asked looking pretty confused and mad.
Everyone felt similar. Even Sasuke. He was clueless of why she would say that this song was for him.
"Because he was an asshole!" Sakura yelled and 'accidentally' spilled her drink all over the Uchiha.
Angrily, he got out of the room. Hinata felt a little bad for laughing, but as she saw the girls laughing even more(some of them), she felt even worse.
Well, it wasn't like the Uchiha didn't deserve it or anything. It was just that Hinata didn't feel like laughing was the right reaction. Even if she was kind of his 'enemy' or whatever - that still didn't feel okay.
Naruto tried to ask the girls what's going on and the place suddenly got even noisier than it was before. Everyone startind yelling at either Naruto or Sakura. It was uncomfortable, awkward and not Hinata's place to be. Not because Sasuke is gone, of course. It was just getting too noisy for the Hyuga who was used to silence, so she got out.
She exited the building, when she saw Sasuke nearby.
"Oi, Uchiha." Hinata came up to him.
Why would she approach him? Yeah, she felt bad. Even if she probably shouldn't. But she didn't usually want to speak with him. Maybe she actually cared for him even a tiny bit?
"Leave me alone, Hyuga. "
He wasn't crying or anything, he was just mad. They walked together to the bus stop in silence, Sasuke walking faster giving her the hint to actually leave him alone.
"Fine, but.. I thought I could give you a napkin or something."
"I don't need your stupid napkin."
The guy shivered. He was all wet and cold.
Something hurt in Hinata's chest seeing him like that, so she grabbed his hand and took him behind some nearby building. Sasuke was still angry, but didn't hesitate. He was actually curious of what Hinata wanted from him.
She stopped behind some dumpsters, and took off her black scarf.
"What's that for?" he looked at it confused but still grabbed it when she gave it to him.
"It's winter, dumbass. And you are wet. You will catch a cold. I'm not concerned about you, but Naruto will get even louder and probably more annoying if you don't come to school."
She blushed a little as he put it on. He looked cute. Good thing the scarf was was very warm.
"That's awkward." his cheeks also turning the color red. "But thanks, Hyuga. I will give it back to you. Tomorrow."
"Okay. I'm gonna go now." she just totally ignored his cuteness and when the fact that her scarf will probably smell of him tomorrow when he returns, made her cheeks even more red. But all she wanted to do now was just lay down on her bed and rest after all this unnecessary drama.
Sasuke opened his mouth to say something about her being dumb, but decided not to. She gave him a scarf so that he won't be as cold as he was. That was nice of her, and unexpected, since she hated him.
"Stupid Hyuga." he whispered instead after he watched her walk away.
He smelled the scarf. It had her scent all over it. Which totally didn't make Sasuke blush even more. Nooope...not at all! He wouldn't admit it.
Why was he like that? Why was he even interested in her, when she wasn't interested in him even as a friend. He didn't like her, but still wanted to see more and more of her...
